Watching a daily video coming into my iMac on my TV using Apple TV 2

I subscribed to a daily video that comes in on my iMac.  I have a AppleTV 2 that is HDMI wired to my plasma TV.  on the AppleTV menu/settings I connected the AppleTV to my home Airport Extreme network.  I can get all the standard menu choices fine.
I want to know if it is possible to stream the daily video from its webite on my iMac to the AppleTV/plasma TV live.
Thank you,

If you have an ios device (ipad, iphone, ipod touch) you can try accessing the site and using airplay. Otherwise, I don't think this is possible.

How can I watch a DVD playing on my iMac on my TV using Apple TV?

You can't. The only way is to transfer the movie to your computer and import to iTunes (making sure it is compatible) and either use home-sharing or airplay the movie off an ios device.

  • How do i watch movie rentals i rented on my imac but view on my apple TV

How do I watch movie rentals I rented on my iMac but view on my apple TV?

How do I watch movie rentals I rented on my iMac but view on my apple TV?
Sounded like a good question to me but nobody seemed willing to respond. So... as I had never rented a movie, I decided to test the work flow on one of the $0.99 "specials" found on iTunes. For my test, I selected "Dark House." The 943.5 MB SD movie downloaded in about 8 minutes to the "Store/Downloads" area in the  iTunes app on my older PPC computer—most likely a volatile cache area as I could not locate a physical file at the Finder level. In any case, it seems that if you select the file in the "iTunes/Downloads" tab, it appears you can play the file locally on the computer (later confirmed this). However, as I wanted to take advantage of the my ethernet connection to my main HDTV, I went to that TV2 device connected to it and checked it's local menu. Sure enough, I found the movie available in a newly added "Rentals" menu that now displayed between the "Music" and "Movies" sub-menus within my own iTunes Library menu.
Be advised that starting file takes a second or two of extra time each time the you quit/restart playback as it seems the movie must be "re-authorized" for the device each time. Further, the rental can only be played on one device at a time. That is, if you want to switch from the device to another, you must close the playback sub-menu for the current device before opening the file on an alternative device. In my case, I tested switching the movie back and forth between an TV2 device and the iTunes player.
Hope that answers your question as I plan to go and watch the move now. If nothing else, this was a learning experience for me. Quality was typical for the data rate and I had no problems viewing the content on my system. I also like the fact that chapter "descriptors" were used for this content rather than the default chapter numbers I normally use.

  • What are people using to convert .3gp video files into something compatible with iMovie? Does Apple have SW to do this?

I am trying to find the best and safest way to convert .3gp video from my Blackberry into a file format that iMovie will recognize.  I see lots of potential downloads, but I am hoping for some recommendations on which SW is most helpful.  Thanks.

There is a free App called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. You can drag your .3gp into MPEG Streamclip. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME.
For HD sizes (1280x720 or 1920x1080), choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
For smaller sizes, you can also use Apple Intermediate Codec, but h.264 will also work and will give a smaller file size.
Then import this new file into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES

  • Is there anyway to watch my purchased videos from my iPhone/imac to a brand new Samsung smart tv?

We just purchased a Samsung 3D HD Smart TV. My B-friend has a Samsung Galaxy 3 (poor thing) which syncs beautifully with the TV. We are also Amazon Prime customers. So another great syncing capability. I own an iphone 5 and an Imac. so we can never coordinate anything together. However, I am trying to be able to watch one movie in particular that is in my Itunes on both my phone and computer. I would love to watch it on the big HD TV. How do I do this? do I need to purchase an apple tv? or is there some setting I need to enable?
When I plug in the USB/lightning cable to the usb port in the back of the TV it will show all of my photos from the phone. but no videos! or music or anything, Just recognizes photos. I have a third party thing called a pogo but it seems to be more hassle than useful. Any suggestions?
If I purchase an apple TV would that then work in reverse? the free movies I get with my Amazon prime account could I watch on my Iphone? there is an infared dongle (seriously) that will use blue tooth but the phone picked it up one time and by the time I got the TV to pick it up, the connection to the phone was lost and i could not reconnect.

  • Can I view a video from my macbook pro on my TV using apple TV while doing something else on the laptop desktop? I.E. watch a video on the tv, while searching the web on the laptop screen?

First off, I just want to clarify that I know how to view my macbook screen, videos, music, photos etc. through the apple tv connected to my hdtv. What I'm trying to do is use it like a second monitor. For example, I'd like to watch a video from the web through the apple tv on the hdtv screen, while simultaneously able to search and use the laptop like I normally would. I know there are two desktops with Mountain Lion, but I haven't been able to figure out how to link one to the apple tv and leave the other as the macbook. I know I've done this before when I had a macbook 13" and a cable connector, there was a setting in system preferences to view one screen (tv) with a video, and then still have the macbook screen free to search for files, the web, etc.... This is different from mirroring, but I haven't located this setting on the new macbook yet.
Ideally I'd like to be able to use my hdtv as a second monitor so I can be sorting and organizing photo files on the macbook, while viewing full size high resolution images on the TV screen. I've got a ton of photographs, close to a personal library you could ask me for a type of photo and I've probably got it, but there is a decent amount of extras, doubles, and just stuff I don't need. This would really help me get organized and allow me to share my work a little bit more efficiently.
I appreciate any insights and hope I can return the favor.
    Much Love
    Soulprogression

I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

There are no duplicate entries or entries with strange extension to these plists
Any advice or direction of where to look next would be appreciated

Hey thanks b noir. That solved my problem! I ran the autoruns programs and the only suspicious programs in the winsock tab was Speedbit (a video accelerator program). As soon as I unistalled it iTunes started working properly again. It's strange because Speebit ran together with Itunes for quite a while without problems -  must've been a new update.
I guess I'll never get back the many many hours I spent trying solve this problem...
Good luck to everyone out there with similar issues. i hope this helps.

  • How do I set permissions between iMac and Macbook Pro using apple extreme base station hooked up to comcast modem

I am trying to share files on my iMac with my wife's macbook Pro for which I am set up as a second user with administration privileges.  I think i have the computers finding each other (for example my iMac shows up on the shared list in my wifes's finder window), but when I try to open a file it says I do not have permission(s).  Is there a manual I can look at that walks me through this step by step.
I know I have to mark files on my iMac to allow for sharing.  How do I designate a particular user as having permission to share.  I only want to be able to share my iMac when I am logged in on my user account on the Macbook Pro (and vise versa, I would like to be able to access the files on the Macbook Pro, when I am logged in as the user on my iMac.

  • Video into my IMac G5

I have an IMac G5/10.4x. I am using IMovie HD. The equipment is being used in a church to record worship services for output to DVD and the web. We are going to be using a P/T/Z camera that has the ability to output the video signal through both composite (RCA) and S-Video (4 pin). What is the best way to get this video signal into my IMac G5? PLease keep in mind that I need to ultimatly get the footage into IMove to prepare for the web and DVD outputs.

It makes me sad to correct you, Sue, but:
    Hi Mark,
if your camera "just" offers analog output (RCA/s-video) you urgently need a analogue-digital converter, which is able to offer a "dv signal" on a firewire connection...
the Apple store has something to offer, as an example from Canopus
    ====
apologize, Sue, but no dv-out mentioned in O.P. :-/

  • How do you get Video INTO an iMac?

I am looking to record a video feed on a mini or iMac using QuickTime. Looking at the specs for both ... no can do. Is there a way?

    Hi Sparks,
I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but I hope
    this might help.
If you happen to have a DV camcorder, you could
probably use that. There should be either audio/video
jacks on the camcorder for analog input (or an
accessory cable) to get the feed into the camcorder,
as well as a firewire out from the camcorder that you
    could send to the imac.
I have used this method in the past to input my
television feed into my ibook with no problems.
I will confirm this method. I have a Canon GL2 used it to connect to my TV and/or VCR and then connect via Firewire400 to my Intel iMac and using iMovie was able to capture video. Worked well.
Then I bought (used) eyeTV200 via Amazon.com (eBay too expensive) and use it now to record VHS and TV programs. eyeTV comes with an editing software ability builtin to remove commercials or other areas of the video you do not want in your finished product. The one thing I use eyeTV for now is to record Amazing Race automatically then the next morning it takes about two minutes to remove the commercials and another ten to burn as a VCD to take to work with me (we have WindowsXP only there) and watch the VCD with Media Player.
I've also burned recorded data to DVD from both TV and old VHS tapes. Very easy and does a nice job.

  • Getting analog video into my iMac G5 inexpensively

Does ANYONE make a simple A to D video converter with USB or Firewire out that I can use to play A/V into my iMac for capture in iMovie, iDVD or other software?
There are a few ancient boxes out there like the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge, Canopus ADVC-100, Formac Studio, some others...
Just wondering if someone has come out with one that is the WalMart version - just simple A/D - no format conversions or sync or fancy features...
I have read in some places that it is almost the same cost to buy a new digital videocam and just use it as the "converter", as opposed to buying a dedicated converter box. Wondering in that case if it would do it in real time, (digitally echo out of the output what is coming in the analog inputs), or if you would have to record your analog into the camera, then later play it back as digital to get it into the digital domain???
Comments appreciated and thanks in advance!

    Hi igril,
both apps, iM and iDVD, expect signals via firewire; both apps using this standard, because a) it is more reliable then usb and b) the specs of fw allow a "generic" set of protocols to remotely control devices (a usb connected camcorder needs "drivers").
    b) 30 frames per second in realtime into 768x576 pixles plus color info plus audio with a sampling rate of 44.1Khz... just simple A/D .. ehm, well...
in the PC market you find some cheapo usb "sticks", claiming to digitize.. but with a much smaller res...
Apple decided in meaning of simplicity, convenience and quality, not to go this route...
inexpansive? ebay some used miniDV with analogue-in or an old Formac box...

  • What kind of cable do I need to get digital video into my Imac?

I just purchased a JVC Mini DV video camera "GR-D347U" refurbished, just to get the feel of bringing digital video clips into Imovie and combining them with still clips and music. The camera came with just the AV cables and I was wondering what I need to port the video over to my Imac. There wasn't much help on their web site. They do offer a DV cable, that what I am looking for? Thanks for your help.
    Dick Skover

Nearly all MiniDV cameras have a 4pin Firewire connector. Looking at the manual (link) for the JVC confirms that.
Macs all have the 6pin Firewire connector (and later iMac have 9pin connectors too) so you simply need a 4pin-to-6pin Firewire cable like this (example).
Once connected simply load iMovie and click import.

  • Watching non HD videos purchased from iMac on Apple TV

Can I use non HD videos purchased on my iMac on my Apple TV? I have had problems viewing in the past.
HD videos take forever to download and watch on Apple TV.
I would like to purchase non HD videos on iMac in iTunes and watch on Apple TV.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There appears to be a large increase in this type of problem at this time, it seems that that there is a problem at Apple's end, but I couldn't at all be sure.
There is no issues being reported at Apple’s System Status page, but this status may yet be updated and it may be you need to try again a little later.
This isn't affecting me here in the UK, where exactly are you.
So far I have noted users in the following locations having similar problems:
