Watching AVI (Media Player 10) on Macbook WinXP environment (BootCamp)
I had find out a problem about watching AVI movie (Media Player 10) on Macbook WinXP environment (Boot Camp). System will be slow down (frame rate drop) when I plug out the AC adapter (run on battery only). Eventually, it is stll a beta version.
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.6)
This is most likely because Windows will reduce the speed of the CPU while on battery power in order to preserve battery. There should(?) be a setting burried somewhere in the control panel which lets you disable this.

Using a Creative Media Player on my MacBook Pro
Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX. Don't have an IPod, unfortunately. I do have a Creative Vision:M 30GB media player. Anyway to hook this up to my MacBook Pro so I can sync music, etc with Itunes or something else? I don't believe the Creative site has Mac drivers.

Windows Media Player Problems and MacBook Pro
Hi!
I installed the Windows Media Player 9 for Mac on my MacBook Pro, used it a couple times and now it just won't work. I have deleted it and re-installed it several times and the same thing happens. WMP starts to load and then i get an error message saying the application ended abruptly and other apps and OS have not been affected. I then sent the report to Apple by pressing the "Report..." button. So, now i just want to get rid of the program and all its files. I deleted the WMP folder and it's preference files, but when i initially installed the program, the VISE installer said it installed 510 files to my HD. Really?
My 2 questions are:
1- what are all the files I have to delete to totally get this application and all its files off my system? I want a clean uninstall as possible.
2- have i done any potential harm to my MacBook Pro? Any diagnostic checks I should run?

Live TV buffering in Media Player filling up SSD?
Hi all:
I have a HTPC with a SiliconDust HDHomeRun DUAL 2-Tuner ATSC DLNA/UPnP Compatible Streaming Media Player, HDHR4-2US. This is a network tuner that can stream live tv over the network to multiple computers. It is supposed to work with
Windows Media Center set up as a dual-tuner or in Window Media Player via DLNA playback. I also have a Hauppauge single tuner installed in my HTPC and it is more sensitive (stronger signal) so I record most everything using that in Windows Media Center.
I have not installed the SiliconDust tuner in Media Center because then I can not control which tuner will record a particular program. I like to watch live tv in Media Player when the Hauppauge internal tuner is recording something else but have just
discovered that the 120 GB SSD with my operating system has suddenly filled up to within 8 GBs of capacity. When I select a channel to watch in Media Player via DNLA the PC shows it is buffering for a few minutes then the program will start playing with
no problems. This same problem happened on the SSD in my NUC PC. I can not find anything else that could be filling up both SSD's and the problem just became noticeable when I started using DLNA for live streaming.
Is it possible that Windows Media Player is acting like it is recording the live streams and saving the programs somewhere where I can't tell. In both PC's I have separate HDs for recorded TV and in Media Center have selected the other drives
for recorded tv so I won't fill up the SSD's.
On the NUC PC I have already had to re-install Windows 7 O.S. because the 240 GB SSD had filled to within 10 GBs of capacity in a couple of weeks after starting to watch shows via DLNA in Media Player. I couldn't find the Recorded
TV folder in the C: drive to see if there are any shows recorded there. I'm down to only 8 GBs left on the O.S. SSD in my HTPC now and will probably have to re-install Windows soon in that too. I hate to give up on watching TV with Media
Player because then I wouldn't be able to record and watch tv at the same time. My antenna signal is too weak to use a dual internal tv tuner even with a signal amplifier in line. Anyone with any helpful ideas?Hi Tim De Baets:
Thanks for your response but I think I have solved the problem with Media Player live tv buffering filling up the SSD. Since I installed the Homerun tuner, SiliconDust came out with a new software download and after uninstalling
the original software and installing the latest version there seems to be a fix for my problem. Before, when I clicked on a channel from the list of channels in "All TV" the computer would start buffering for varying lengths
of time before the show would start running. Now the channels appear in "Playlist" on the right side of the Media Player window and upon clicking on ANY channel the live broadcast starts running immediately with no buffering prior to the start.
I haven't see any change in the size of the C: drive since then after a week of frequent use.
I am hesitant to install an unknown utility such as you mentioned when there is a likelihood that it won't be able to find anything useful anyway since there is no "large buffering file" to find now. I will keep the information
you provided at hand in case the buffering problem starts again. -
Windows Media Player on Mac OS X Tiger
I recently downloaded Windows Media Player onto my Macbook in hopes of being able to upload music from my Sandisk Sansa Mp3 player to my harddrive, but the program only plays video files, and doesn't even recognize that something is attached when I plug the Sanza into one of the USB ports. Is there a specific format of Windows Media Player that I should download, or is the effort moot?
I can't remember where I read it but what I do remember is that SanDisk and Microsoft spent some time and effort to make it such that Macs could not use this device.
Other device makers are doing similar things. My newer Canon camera is usb but does not appear on the desktop when plugged into the usb port. Instead it boots up a Canon program that allows you to download images but also prompts you to print using a Canon printer. I can format the sd card in a generic windows format but the camera does not like it. If I fiddle with it long enough it will work and then appear on the desktop but it makes me mad. It seems that many device makers are going in this direction.
Enough of my rant, check out this link to see if it helps. I use Ipods so I can't vouch for the quality of the program but it's worth a shot.

Anyone seen a problem with Media Player on an MacBook Pro?
Mine traps as soon as it starts up. Of course there is no information
except for the stack trace, which isn't very useful really.

Go to Home-Library-Preferences and delete two files:
Windows Media Favorites
Windows Media Player Prefs
See if this fixes the problem. The files will re-create next time you open WMP. -
Airport Extreme, can't see usb disk from media player
I have a WD hard drive (formatted in FAT32) connected to my Airport Extreme. I can access it from my MacBook and I can see it under disks in Airport Utility. When I try to access the drive wirelessly from my Merlin media player (that's connected to my TV), the drive doesn't show up under the Airport Extreme Workgroup. I should mention that when the drive is plugged into my MacBook, I CAN access the drive on my media player under my MacBook's Workgroup. So I'm assuming the issue is with the Airport allowing the drive to be seen, and not the format of the drive itself. Can anyone help?
By default, when you enable "File Sharing" in the AirPort Utility, your AirPort Extreme will share out an attached USB HDD with either Macs or PCs.
To access the shared HDD from a Windows 7 PC:
Start > Computer > Map network drive
Drive: <use default or select a drive letter>
Folder: \\<AirPort's Base Station Name or IP Address>\<HDD's Volume Name>

0x1) is there a way to disable annoying autoplay feature in windows media player: when i play music in "now playing" mode and insert a disc which contains some video WMP stops playing music and asks me to play that disc or starts playing without any questions (e.g. when i insert DVD). in addition when WMP asks before playing it proposes three options: resume playing, go to library and play previous list. choosing "resume playing" you'll not resume the music just played, you'll start playing inserted disc. if you choose "play previous list", it also won't continue the playlist i was just playing, rather a playlist or track before the one i was just playing! very strange behaviour, isn't it?
note that this happends only in "now playing" mode, when library is active everything works fine.
please don't tell to go to control panel and change autoplay settings: it takes no effect. it works when WMP is not started or if WMP is not in "now playing" mode, otherwise WMP ignores that settings and demonstrates his "very intellectual"automatic playing.
0x2) when playing FLAC files windows media player doesn't show progress indicator, it always is positioned at the beginning (or at the place where you've positioned it). if i select multiple FLAC files and click "play with windows media player" it will play only the last file from the selected list.
0x3) when playing AVI files with two or more audio tracks WMP plays only one of them and gives no opportunity to change autio track. in wmp of vista it plays all the audio tracks at the same time (!).
If there is no solution for these problems, please tell me where i can send a feedback about my complaints?i use K-Lite 5.2 full codec pack. in the k-lite codec tweak tool report i see madFLAC.ax installed. i'll try the Xiph.org filters.

Screensaver ignores settings in Windows Media Player when watching a movie...
Hello,
Does anyone know how to resolve the problem with screensaver kicking in while watching a movie using Windows Media Player (WMP) even though I have unchecked the option to "Allow screen saver during playback" option in WMP?
I have found that if I start Windows Media Center (WMC) first and watch TV for example or even listen to Music in WMC and then later quit out and then load WMP to watch an avi file, after the specified time the screen saver starts up and the movie is no longer visible until i move the mouse to stop the screensaver. I know if I reboot WMP will work fine and no Screen saver will startup, that is not until i start WMC again and then go back into WMP...

Exported avi's flicker between 4:3 and 16:9 when played back in media player etc.
Using premiere pro 1.5 on a windows XP..... never had issues until recently.. always shoot with xl-2 in 24p... when the AVI is exported (microsoft dv avi ntsc, or sometimes 24p advanced) and I watch it in windows media player the video flickers back and forth between widescreen and standard... seems random....sometimes the exported videos will play ok... any ideas what's up? thanks!

dv avi ntsc is 720x480 and it sounds like you have mixed assets in your project...when that flickering happens. 720x480, whether it is 4:3 or 16:9 does not have square pixels..so if some of your assets are based on square pixels you'll get some weird stuff going on ( if your program monitor is set to "fit" it will look OK on timeline maybe, but on export wont ? )...maybe try program monitor at 100% instead and see what stuff looks like before you export...fix the mixed media stuff ? You using still images ? is that what flickers diff size ?

ps. you might try ms avi ( not ms dv avi ) and adjust settings as per your project and try that export instead ( choose same renderer you use in project or lagarith or some lossless codec ) -
New to MacBook...question about running windows media player....
Bought my wife a new MacBook a few weeks ago....she appears to enjoy the laptop, but one thing we can't figure out.
How do we get Windows Media Player files to play when all we have is QuikTime? For example, tried watching some of the performances from 'RockStar Supernova', but only get an error.
What do we need to do so anytime we try to watch a Windows Media Player file it will default and play in QuikTime?
Any help is much appreciated.I am frantic. I have been up all night and feel dreadful. I am not familiar with all this stuff but am better than many people i know.
what has happened is that I downloaded Itune and the quicktime thing that went with it. Now I tunes has 'taken over'.
I cannot get if off the start menu..and quicktime too...thus taking up resources i need for other things.
but worse. Now it is Itunes that reads the cd...not media player as before (I guees I must have ticked that or it is by default) but it cannot read the CD. everything is shown as Itunes 1 or 2 etc. with file ext .cda. also impossible no to attch to an email.
I would be happy to just get read of itunes and all that is associated with it. I only downloaded it in preparation for getting an ipod but now I do not wnat anything to do with the whole thing but I cam scared to uninstall it for fear of what it might do to register.
I do not even know how to put a post on this site and have just got desperate so amy trying to email somebody who can help me.
Please help.
I just wnat to get back to where I was before I tunes with paying penalty.

Windows 7 professional with Windows Media Player 11 and WMP plugin for Firefox 4 doesn´t work, but on WinXP it does work normally with the same plugin version after upgrade to FF4.

How do I covert downloaded (on MacBook Air) media files to play on a western digital media player?
Would be great if someone could give me a hand, very frustrated!
Anything I have downloaded on my MacBook Air I have not been able to put on my Western Digital Media Player. The media player is recognised when it's plugged in to the Mac but I'm not given the ability to move any files or place any new files on the media player.
I have also tried saving movie files to a USB and then tried using my work PC to place them on the media player, this works - but the file format won't play.

You also need to determine what kind of DVDs your player supports. My player will play discs with image files on it. Some players will even play files in mp4 format. If yours will only strictly play DVDs in DVD format then you have to author them with a tool such as iDVD (no longer sold).
If you are playing these at home you might see if you can ouptu video straight to the video device from your MBA.
