Watching BBC News videos on an Ipad 3

Hi just wondering if anyone can help me out...
I'm not able to watch videos on the BBC News website using the iPad 3. I realise that they are flash videos and the iPad cannot play or download flash...but is there definitely no way around this? The BBC News app is a partial solution as it lets me play videos using the same iPad but there are so many videos in the archives of the main site that I'd love to be able to access.
If anybody has any tips then I'd be really grateful. I guess it's the same situation for all sites that contain flash content...
Thanks guys

That's great. iSwifter and Puffin both work though the latter seems to have better sound. They are both free too - looks like you have to buy Skyfire and Photon.
Thank you

How can I watch BBC/ITV player on my ipad - someone has told me I need a flash player but there is no such thing on ipad

BBC iPlayer and ITV Player are both apps in the App Store.
You can also watch about 50 channels of live TV (including all BBC and ITV channels) if you point Safari at "TvCatchup".
Tell "somebody" that Flash is not required.

    Hi herbie13!
It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

    Hi acemelhaz,
hi i am new ive had my imac duo about 2 weeks in general im finding it great but when on internet annoying me a little first up i cant play bbc news video weather etc says i dont have mime plugin?
I believe BBC Weather uses the Real Player plugin for its video content. What you need to do is install it, but because it's written for the PowerPC, you'll also need to run Safari under Rosetta for compatibility.
also i cant get mail to receive google mail , it can send but wont receive..
Did you follow Gmail's instructions to the letter?
also some sites with security like when paying a bill wont load up?
How should I put this? Some sites are written with Windows/IE-compatibility in mind, which doesn't necessarily amount to Safari-compatibility. For the time being, as a Mac-user, you'll have to come to terms with the fact that there will be a handful of sites which won't work with Safari. That said, where Safari fails, other browsers such as FireFox, OmniWeb or Camino might in some cases. The trick is to use what works for a given scenario.
Some sites specifically check for your browser's user-agent, refusing access unless it detects what it's looking for. If that is what's happening in this case, then you could try spoofing your browser's ID. Enable the Debug menu by quitting Safari and entering the following line in the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/)
    defaults write com.apple.Safari EnableDebugMenu 1
When you open Safari, you should see a 'Debug' menu to the right of 'Help'. Near the bottom of that menu, you should be presented with a 'User Agent' dropdown menu, allowing you to change the browser ID reported. Changing that to 'Windows MSIE 6.0' would be your best bet in most cases.
then next time will, and last of all i can no longer get my hotmail to work with msn messenger can someone advise me please thankyou

I want to watch dr oz videos on my iPad.  How do I do this?

If the videos are Flash videos, you need a "Flash" browser like Photon or iSwifter. They will not work in Safari.
Download the ABC Player app and you can watch episodes of NY Med.

  • Ipad retina does not play bbc iplayer or bbc news videos

I have a new ipad retina and just today it no longer plays hte videos on the BBC news site nor will it load BBC iplayer.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

Can only offer generic things to try like quitting all apps (double tap on Home, swipe all apps upwards quit), then force-restarting the device (hold down Home and Sleep will screen goes dark and a white Apple logo appears, release and wait). Or check your connectivity to see if something changed (Wi-Fi, cellular).
The BBC doesn't consider us foreigners worthy of the digital pleasures, so no iPlayer for us. But the regular app seems to be working ok:

  • I want to transfer BBC News videos to my ipod

If you click on the BBC you can watch news item videos in Real Player or Windows Media. They can be saved in .m3u, .rmp, .pls, .wpl or .asx file formats. Can anyone advise the simplest way to transfer and view any of these on the ipod? Is QuickTime Pro suitable?
      Windows XP Pro

    Hi,
These files are playlists (I think) so you can't convert them, because basically when you click them, they are a link to the file on the BBC, not the actual news videos, unfortunately.

  • BBC news video outsize display

About two weeks ago when starting a video on the BBC news web site, the image was larger that the window resulting in only part of the picture showing. However after scrolling down to disappear the window and scrolling up again, the image has resized and shows correctly. This is on Safari only, everything works fine on Chrome. Macbook pro 15" with retina display, OSX 10.8.2.

Then start using Chrome as your main and IMHO Only Web Browser.

  • Watching Yahoo news videos

This is just a general question. Does anybody know why I can't watch news videos from Yahoo? I tried it in Safari and Firefox and it just hangs there. But if I go to the souce of the news(i.e. AP, ABC News, CNN), I have no problem.

Some sound works and some doesn't? That seems really strange to me!
Did this just start happening? If so try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
Could it be that some applications are muted in the Volume Mixer? Open a program that's supposed to have sound but doesn't. With it open, left-click on the volume button in the notification area and select "Mixer." Make sure it's bar isn't muted.
You could also try reinstalling the driver.

  • Is there a way to take a video pause and continue playing on same video so i dont have to start a new video on my ipad 2

is there a way to start a video on my ipad 2 pause and continue playing on same video so i do have to start another video

In I movie, load the player with your clip.  Play it until the frame you want is in the viewing window.  Then take a screen shot and the whole screen wil be captured and placed in the camera roll.  You can then crop it down to just the picture, or portion of the picture you want.
    Not elegant, but functional.

  • How can I watch 1920x1080 60p video in the iPad?

Background - I recently purchased a Sony Camcorder.  It records in AVCHD format 1920x1080 60p.  I have converted the AVCHD format to .mov using clip wrap but I cannot sync the file to my iPad 3 with iTunes probably because the iPad can only play up to 30 fps and this video is in 60 fps.  I can record in a lower quality mode of 1440x1080 30 fps but the quality is significantly less.  Is there a way to make this compatible somehow to play on the iPad?   Maybe convert it from 60 fps to 30? I know there must be a way.  I have a 3rd party app called Filebrowser and when I play the .mov 1920x1080 60p file directly from the source (my MacBook) it plays it on the iPad and the quality is incredible.  Only problem is that since it is streaming the iPad can't stream fast enough to play it without pausing every 5 seconds.  If my camera could record in 1920x1080 30p I wouldn't have this issue but for some reason Sony doesn't allow this.  I chose Sony because the video is significantly better than Canon, Nikon and other brands.  Does someone please have a suggestion?  I have been researching for hours so if there is another forum post that explains I am sorry I could not find it and I have a migraine from searching.  I am definitely an amateur at best trying to get great quality home video on my retina display iPad.  What good does the retina display do if I have to watch mediocre video quality.  Any help is appreciated.  Regards.

    Hi,
I too would like to know the answer to your question. I don't thnk the answer you got was what you were looking for. I would go to the Digital Vdeo Infrmation Network forums and ask there about which is the best software to convert 60p to 30p. I don't remember off hand how exactly to do it. But it is a little complecated as I recall. People over there will be more than helpful.
I took 720p 60fps footage when I should have taken 30p footage with my Canon 60D camera.
I just hope that in the next IOS6 update that we will be able to import 60d footage. But I am not holding my breath.
I can't see why 60D footage would not be possible on the ipad3. It is the same amount of data bits. 1280x720 60p vs 1920x1080 30p.

  • Unable to open BBC news video

On the BBC website I try to open news clip videos but it informs me I do not have the latest adobe software.  I then download it but it still comes up with the comment 'unable to view as you do not have the latest version of adobe flash'.  I can view the ITN news clips, You Tube and MSN video clips.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi glspaobidos,
Please let me know what OS and browser are you using.

  • BBC News Video not displaying/loading

This is an old topic, but I can find no entry since 2006 have I missed something?
I can view YouTube, ITN any number of Quicktime sites, and I can listen to BBC sound only sites but not stream video content.
Running Safari (through Rosetta) doesn't seem to change anything.
Standalone Real Player looks healthy with a request sent to the BBC but nothing happens until it times out.
This Intel iMac has everything up to date, plug ins are in the root directory library and "block pop up" disabled. I have set Real Player prefs for my internet connection speed within Real's menu.
My connection is via Airport, might this be the problem?
I've read endless twaddle from the BBC which I think suggests OS9 and Real Player 8 or some such, while admitting that their original decision to use Windows Media no longer works. Have I gone into some sort of time warp?
I'm not sure what else to try, or is this a BBC/Mac incompatability?

    Hi,
The file type I get is .ram, on Realplayer never used Flip4mac or WMP.
I've selected all the tabs for media type in Real except Quicktime to no great effect.
Did you allow the prefrences to Quit the browser if not it wouldn't help.

  • What is going to stop my "other" capacity increasing every time i sync new videos to my ipad 2?

I have read several posts all indicating there is a big problem with syncing and "other" capacity increasing.
Everytime i change my video content (every few days) my "other" storage volume increases and total capacity decreases in line with the videos i've removed from the ipad. having done 2 or 3 syncs my other volume is up to 16gb. i am aware that performing a restore will fix this temporarily but i am not going to restore 64 gb of data every 2 or 3 syncs.
what is the proper and actual solution to this problem? (i.e. not restoring constantly)
