Watching Clips & Trailers!

hi there! Yesterday I could watch trailer from the apple site and also watch other stuff online via quicktime but all of a sudden nothing will play.... it just has the quicktime logo in the middle with a question mark symbol in front of it. Whats going on???? there are no available updates for my system nor quicktime! WTH is going on can anyone help me????

No one inferred that you were stupid. But you would be surprised how many times folks come here, write about an issue and have not restarted their Mac. Or tried any of the basic trouble shooting steps to isolate or determine what causes the issue.
As I first said, this is not a guessing game. To best offer help or ideas folks need to know what steps you have already taken to resolve the issue. So please, in good detail what have you already done?

Apple don't want flash player (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/), and Adobe have never managed to make a version that works on iOS devices.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store,and there is the built-in YouTube app.

I just installed quicktime 7.7.2 to watch movie trailers, works but no sound

I just installed quicktime 7.7.2 to watch movie trailers on http://trailers.apple.com/trailers. It plays the trailers OK but there's no sound. Any ideas? I have Windows XP.
Quicktime installation also changed the association on an m4v movie that played perfectly with the VLC movie player, but plays real jerky with the QT player and also there's no sound. Any ideas?

I just installed OuickTime 7 Pro in my Mac Pro Ver 10.6.8. The video I am trying to view is codec h264 Compression dvcpro 50 hd. I have audio but no video. It says I need other software with QuickTime for it to work. Dose anyone know what I need?
H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.

Yes you do. I am in landscape view. You tap on the icon of the movie (or on the word View) - from list of movies and this window pops up. You do know how to navigate through iTunes on the iPad right? These trailers will look just like they do in a web browser.
I want to have a view like the website version, is that possible?
And no - you can't watch them in a browser - unless you watch a YouTube site - because the those trailers require Flash and Flash is not supported on the iPad.

I think the key word here is "was". You can try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. If this does not work, then it is possible that the hardware has failed. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple or the Authorized Apple Service Provider.

Slow when watching movie trailers

Hi there
I encounter a very annoying problem. When I'm watching a trailer using Front Row, it won't play without stopping once or even twice. It stalls and then a blue progress bar comes up at the bottom of the screen, and it seems to download the trailer again...
What's the problem with the way trailers are being played within Front Row ? Maybe Apple might give us more bandwidth ?

I Alllllmost wrote a nasty-gram to Apple a little while ago but after seeing all of the posts here in this, I backed down. I totally miss the old FR and the way it played trailers... and I'm a trailer junkie! While watching the new CJ4 trailer, it paused as the others do and really riled me up! Anyway, do you guys think we'll see a chage any time soon? My upgrade to 10.5.2 didn't fix didley!

Why can i not watch movie trailers in QT anymore?

Ever since I upgraded to SL and I go to Yahoo movies and want to watch a movie trailer Real Player opens up and plays. It was always in QT before. I have tried downloading the file too but it will not import. Any suggestions?

To check Safari's plugins go to Safari/Help/Installed Plugins
If Quicktime mappings are incorrect, open up System Preferences/Quicktime/Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
In the next window that opens up make sure that all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *Video-Quicktime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play movie trailers within your browser.
Click the OK button.
Make sure you have installed the latest versions of Flip4Mac, VLC Media Player, Perian and Adobe Flash Player.

Cannot watch movie trailers

I have only just gone wireless and now my trusted ATV has access to the internet! All good stuff, YouTube works fine, syncing all works fine but when I click on Movie Trailers I get a message saying 'Downloading trailers' with a spinning wheel which I left overnight. In the morning it was still doing it so I cancelled as I guessed it wasn't working seeing as YouTube content is almost instant ! Any ideas ? Do I need to activate anything in iTunes? Do I need to leave it longer? I have my ATV hooked up to a standard def LCD TV if that helps !

Sounds like a server problem. Hopefully it will pass.
Under Settings (firmware 1.1) you can choose your local iTunes store location so you could set it to somewhere else to see if it's a local issue or not.
If you can see YouTube content then you're connected to the internet.
Only other thing could be some odd port blocking if YouTube and iTunes trailers work on different ports on AppleTV.

Quicktime not allowing me to watch any trailers

I tried to watch a movie trailer a few days ago and got the infamous quicktime logo and question mark. I tried removing the web streaming plug in and it didn't change anything. I also tried unchecking the MIME settings and got no response on that either.
I am deployed to Iraq and even tried to access the movie trailer from the iTunes store and got the broken chain (link).
I don't know where to go or what to do to get this working again. Everything worked fine 10 days ago, and I didn't add any software other then quicktime and iTunes updates. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I just seen this in another discussion group Ollie posted and all my Quicktime woes are fixed, but why do you need to have to follow these setting to get Quicktime working? Why does't it do this automatically? Anyway heres what Ollie said and it worked for me:

open quicktime pref.. then 'advance' tab choose custom then change to HTTP and port id of 80 !! - thats it
All fixed my end and now i can stream the event no problems.

I bought Apple's 'Crazy Lab' App for £6.99 so I could watch the movies they offered straight from my iPod but all the App is letting me do is watch the trailers and rage the movies, not actually watch them? Is this a joke?

Please help me with this. I would like a refund if it does not work

I am using puffin browser to watch clips on ipad-iphone etc. for that i bought adobe flash player for the browser but its owe full, it does not work will

what should i do? i askedone of the. site support centre, they said it should work with some funny other things . talking about the contents of there sites which could work fine on ordinary windows environoment disktops

We don't have a relationship with Puffin Browser, but it is the only viable option for Flash on iOS and Android that I'm aware of at the moment.
You'll need to work this out with the folks at Puffin.

I can't watch Trailers!!

It's exasperating! Ever since I upgraded from QT 6.something to 7 I can't watch movie trailers on Safari anymore. Before this last upgrade 7.4.1 (14) the movie trailer in question would download into my safari window if I refreshed the page, which was a bit cumbersome but it worked. Well, not anymore. I've hit the reload button a number of times with no results.
I've no idea what to do.
Can someone help me, please?

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

Can't play Movie Trailers from iTunes Store!

I am wondering if anyone knows why I cant watch free movie trailers on the iTunes Store? It follows as far as letting me choose the size of the trailer cilp I want to watch but after that nothing loads up! the top half of the page is blank! Also I can't watch movie trailers from the apple website through the quicktime option. Yes, I do have Quicktime. Please Help.

I figured it out, it was just that I needed to upgrade my Quiktime player. Quicktime 7 and I can watch all the movie trailers!!

HT4613 Is it normal that closed captions do not show in the trailers and other promos, even if they are present in the movie? I don't want to pay to rent a movie that supposedly has CC if it doesn't show up on the samples.

I want to rent some iTunes movies with closed captions, but in order to confirm that the CCs work, tried watching the trailers first. I have CCs enabled on the iPod touch, but no captions showed up on the trailers or promos. Is this normal? Can I be sure that if a movie is marked with CCs, that they will be there if I rent it? Unfortunately you will likely end up implementing either a totally manual system (meaning you just add a line at the top of your topic with your breadcrumb trail as you wish to display it, then link as needed) or you will have to resort to some third party solution that isn't part of RoboHelp's features.
You might also take a moment and suggest to the RoboHelp development team that we need some flexibility with this aspect. (Link is in my sig)
