Watching HD content from iTunes store on a 30" Cinema Display..

… You can't.
I just bought a new 30" display for my MacPro and to celebrate I bought an HD TV show from iTunes. I'm not allowed to view it on that monitor connected to the DVI port. I tried to purchase a mini-display adapter to run the monitor from thinking that would pass the signal.
(The new LCD 24" and the iMac 27" as display will both show the HD content).
An Apple Senior Engineer told my AppleCare phone rep that there is a chip in the new monitors which will pass the purchased HD signal. (My Unibody 17" shows the file.)
So even if I connect the 30" to the mini-display port i still couldn't watch the HD content.
So why not sell (provide?) an adapter that contains the chip and goes between the display port and the monitor? Does anyone make this?

That would be the HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) chip.

That would defeat the whole purpose of HDCP.

Not in the United States. They have the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

  • Can't update apps or download content from itunes store

I have a large itunes library and I sync it with 2 ipads and one iphone.
But I can't download content i bought from itunes store or update my iphone/ipad apps.
It says (directly translated from swedish) : Can't download, xxx not authorized. Please check your internet connection.
I use a MBP with Maverick, iTunes and all other software on computer and phones are up to date.

iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

  • Authorising computers to play content from iTunes Store...

I've recently started downloading films, tv shows and the odd album from the iTunes store. I've spent about $200 in the last while, and it's a great service. Something crossed my mind last night...
I'm currently using my macbook pro to download content, and then I either play it on my macbook or transfer it to my apple tv. All working fine...
Now, I've decided that I'm going to get a mac mini to use as a media server. I'm going to use it to play dvds, hook an elgato eyetv up to it to record tv, rip my dvd library, and finally I'm going to be able to free up my macbook pro from downloading content and ripping dvds. I'm then going to transfer my apple tv to the bedroom and the mac mini will take it's place in the living room.
What crossed my mind was, when I set up this server that will make 2 computers that I will need to authorise, my girlfriend's laptop makes 3. I'm not entirely sure if the apple tv counts as one authorisation but it probably does so that makes 4. What happens when I update one of these computers...say get a new macbook pro... then in a couple of years I upgrade the mac mini and maybe get a mac pro too?? I'm going to lose all my content eventually.
    My question 2 questions are:
    1) Can I de-authorise a computer and replace it with another computer?
    or
    2) Do you think after X number of years, apple will unlock old content so that it will play on other computers?
I hope I can de-authorise computers, otherwise I'll be stuck with these computers if I want to keep this content... I'm now seriously thinking about stopping using the iTunes store. It just seems criminal to spend so much cash on stuff that isn't going to work in a couple of years...

    Hi,
From iTunes, click Store, then Deauthorize Computer...
Steve Jobs did announce that they will update iTunes store such that you would have the choice of buying licensed music (i.e. restricted to authorised computers) and license less music (no restrictions).
The snag was, you would have to pay more for license less music (but, at least you would have the choice).
Read more about it at http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/04/02itunes.html
Now, if you find anything that could help me update my iPod firmware, I would be most grateful....
I hope this answers your questions...
    Regards,

  • Can not purchase content from iTunes store on AppleTV

    Hello
I am trying to download a particular episode of TV directly on my AppleTV. I am able to navigate to the episode I want correctly. I click buy, then click OK, and then I get "Access iTunes Store" with the spinning gear. I left it overnight and it still did not download. Any suggestions? Help!
P.S. I did a network test and everything seemed to be okay.

Sadly, yes, of course I was logged into the iTMS.
I did a full factory restore and software update and am letting it re-sync while I'm at work. I'll try it again when I get home late tonight.

I've tiped everything needed in that billing info also my credit card, but the notif always "security code is invalid". How come it is invalid, when I handed the card my self when I tiped the number on my apple id. I've repeated it over and over again, but the same notif always came.
Anyone could explain to me, what's happen to my apple id axactly and how to solve this issue.

if both itunes on the computer and on the phone dont show any then apple must not be offering that service in your country

  • Watching a movie rented from iTunes store on television using ITV

I installed my recently purchased Apple TV and had everything working smoothly until renting a movie from iTunes store. The movie would play on my computer monitor, but not on the television. When I tried a window would appear saying, "the movie was not copied to the Apple TV because the Apple TV could not contact the iTunes Store to authorize. Please check your Internet connection or try again later." The Internet connection to the television worked fine as did the Internet connection to the computer. It was only when I tried to watch the movie on television that the problem arose. What could be the problem?

Same thing here... Direct purchase of musicvideos, tv shows, etc. via Apple TV with no problem (account is valid, connection is there, content is downloaded). Musicvideos and tv shows are synced to my iTunes library and I can play the complete content on my computer. Musicvideos ARE available on ATV (just bought one via iTunes... and directly available and playable on ATV), but purchased tv shows are not available and will not sync (tv show WAS bought via Apple TV... synced to iTunes... but after changing syncing to the latest 5 episodes of tv shows I cannot stream with the online and connected iTunes library to watch my bought shows).
    Help!

  • Content removed from iTunes Store?

Around a month ago I was looking around the iTunes store, and found a few things I wanted. I didn't buy any of them, and just completely forgot about them till a day ago. So I go and search for the album and game I had seen, and they're no where to be found on the iTunes store. They just vanished into thin air. Some other things seem to be missing as well, but I can't put my finger on it...
So what did they do with them? Do they often remove content from the store? Or Am I just going crazy?

Things often get removed when the licensing arrangements change.
For instance last Novemeber, NBC stopped selling all their TV shows in iTS.
Also it is easy to make a wish list so you can get back to things quickly.
If they disappear from the wishlist, they've disappeared from the iTS.

  • Error code -45054 from iTunes store when trying to purchase content

Tried everything I could think of. Had already done a fresh install of OS Mavericks and this issue recently came up. Couldn't find any threads describing a fix so any help is appreciated.
error code -45054 from iTunes store when trying to purchase content
    Specifically:
"We could complete your iTunes store request
    An unknown error occurred (-45054)
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later"
    3 days later...same error code.

    Hello there, Tyger2204.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps and additional reference links for troubleshooting issues connecting to the iTunes Store:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
Feel free to begin with these recommended steps:
Make sure your computer is up-to-date and meets the following requirements
Make sure that you can access the Internet on your computer or device.
Make sure that your computer meets the iTunes minimum system requirements.
Make sure that your operating system is up to date:
For Mac: Choose Apple () > Software Update to determine if updates are available for your computer.
    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HT3702 can i download free content from itunes and app store without any billing information?

I am a iPhone 3gs user firmware version 3.1.3 . the question is can i download free content from itunes and the app store without billing info ? please help !

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

We were watching a movie from iTunes on our Apple TV and it froze with about 10 minutes left... just a spinning disk.  Network was fine, I could run Netflix, I could choose other content via AppleTV or iTunes... but the movie only gives spinning disk when I go back to it.  I confirmed settings on AppleTV and reset the unit without any result.  iTunes indicates I have 21 hours left on the rental.  I would like to be able to finish the movie and not have to rent it again.
Any thoughts?  Anything that needs to be done in Samsung TV settings?

How did you verify network was fine?
Netflix adapts to the network whereas iTunes needs a consistently solid connection. What other content did you try?
What is your current connection via speedtest
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network
Make sure DNS is set to automatic.

  • PodCast and Videos from Itunes store "not compatiable"

I downloaded some of the free content from Itunes, one was a video podcast, and now when I sync my ipod it tells me that it can not be added to my ipod because the file is not compatable?
Why is Itunes offering uncompatable product?
Is there a setting I need to change/update?
Also Movies I had previously downloaded and watched on my Ipod no longer play, I am told they are not compatable either.

Podcasts are universal and all the iTunes Store does is list them (in a catalogue). They may be compatible with Apple TV, which is why the store features them.
Is there a setting I need to change/update?
As Katrina says, maybe you have downloaded the HD version. Check the page where you found them and see if it says HD. If so, look fo the non-HD version, if there is one. However, there are video Podcasts that are not HD, but still don't play on an iPod, even though they play in iTunes. Try selecting the Podcast in iTunes and clicking on *Advanced/Create an iPod or iPhone version.* (It doesn't always work!)
Also Movies I had previously downloaded and watched on my Ipod no longer play, I am told they are not compatable either.
I don't have an answer for that, what movies are they?
Video standards are changing rapidly and some Podcast producers forget that iPods cannot play every video format available. That's why you find content in the iTunes Store which is incompatible with an iPod.

  • Why no 1080p HD video on macbook pro/mac mini from itunes store?

Why can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini?  This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time.  When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home.
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason.  I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them.  The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too?  The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.  One question.... why?

I use a 2010 MB to view my 1080 HD content from iTunes. It's connected to a 24" Samsung monitor. Plays back perfectly.
How old is your MBP? I have a 2008 black MB that handles 720HD content but stutters on 1080. It plays them but the picture isn't smooth as it should be.
