Watching iphoto home videos on Appletv 2nd gen

How do I get videos from iphoto to my Appletv 2nd generation?

Yes, I've tried that several times and when I choose "Add to library" from iTunes menu it pulls up the Finder.  I tried adding to Movies file and it appeared to work but they didn't show up there.  Tried adding it by highlighting and putting it on the right side and clicking "add to" but after ejecting iPad the videos weren't on iTunes.  What am I doing wrong?

  • HT4352 how can I move a movie purchased on AppleTV 2nd Gen to my Mac computer

I am using an AppleTV 2nd Gen, and I purchased Skyfall and wish to move it to my Mac to watch.  How can I do this.  I have Home Sharing on correctly, however the AppleTV2 does not show on the iTunes sidebar and I do not see the movie in my purchased content.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community..
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • IPhone4 pictures on AppleTV (2nd gen) have wrong aspect ratio

    Hello,
I'm using AirPlay with an iPhone 4 and an AppleTV (2nd gen), my iphone
pictures are displayed with a wrong aspect ratio (I mean really wrong
aspect ratio, rounded stuff is showed "oval".
Movies taken from my MacBook Pro are displayed correctly, any idea?
    Thansk!
    Alberto

The screenshots aspect ratio is fine on the iPhone (and the picture is good if I transfer it to my MacBook) , but is displayed incorrectly when airplayed to the AppleTV.
The AppleTV is attached to a 24'' screen, all the other stuff from AppleTV (menu, home page, films from internet and so on) are displayed correctly).
    Thanks again for your help!

  • AppleTV (2nd Gen) sound dropping from iTunes (as remote AirTunes speaker)

    Setup:
    - iTunes 10.0.1(22) on Mac mini (1st Gen Intel),Mac OS X 10.5.8, 1.000baseT
    - FritzBox DSL & WLAN router
    - AppleTV (2nd Gen)
Accessing any content (sound, video, pictures) thru AppleTV from Mac mini works fine. Everything play well, no hickups.
Playing music from iTunes on my Mac mini using the AppleTV like an AirPort Express with attached speakers drops and regains sound in unspecific intervals - like 5 secs silence, 20 secs sound, 10 secs silence, 5 secs sound etc.
    What can I do ?

Switching from WLAN to regular Ethernet solved the issue.
you might be suffering from _*wireless interference*_.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler (free) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. *change the channel(s) of your network as far away as possible from those*.
note there may be hidden (closed) networks around that these apps won't pick up. however, KisMac will be able to. be aware, though, that in some countries (e.g. Germany) the use of KisMac may not be legal !

  • HT202157 My AppleTV (2nd gen) crashed last night with the latest update and now all I have a flashing light.  What to do?

My AppleTV (2nd gen) crashed last night with the latest update and now all I have a flashing light.  What to do? It showed a USB symbol point toward an iTunes symbol and won't reset after resetting with the remote.  Same thing.

usb symbol pointing toward an itunes symbol is apples way of trying to get you to connect the appletv to your computer running itunes so it can restore the apple tv's software
though it seems to be a connection few people make

  • AppleTV 2nd gen not updating YouTube app-

Ok. Learned of the newest updates for apps on my AppleTV 2nd gen. Read about how the YouTube app was new and was hoping to play around with it. But when I got on, I found that it has not updated.
I updated the software thru the Setting app. No joy. Restored the AppleTV to factory spec with supposed latest update. Still no joy.
Anyone else have this issue? Searching has not revealed anything yet.
    My info:
    Model: MC572LL/A
    Software: 6.2.1 (6698.99.50.41)
connected by ethernet to Apple Extreme Base Station
    Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem. The other new channels from the Monday(?) update showed up, but my YouTube app has not changed. I have an AppleTV 2 (i.e. the first hockey puck), is the update limited to certain models?

  • Downloading HD videos on a 2nd gen. iPod Touch?

    Hey guys!
I'm having some difficulty downloading some newer HD videos on my 2nd gen. iPod touch (Legend of Korra episodes if you must know). Two of them aren't downloaded on, one of them I have no clue why, and the other "The Voice in the Night", cannot be played on the iPod (even though the other ones can). I'm wondering if I can change the video so I can download it onto my iPod without buying it again.
    Thanks!
    P.S.
The other episode is "The Revelation", and it just won't download for no reason (iTunes doesn't notify me that it won't either).

Should work fine, it is a USB power adaptor.

  • Best practice for viewing short home videos on AppleTV?

Please help me find a simple way to view short home videos taken on a digital video camera, photo camera or cell phone on my Apple TV.
I've been using AppleTV to showcase my photos for a couple months now, but all the short little videos I take along the way have been gathering dust in a general folder. None of them are significant enough to warrant building a full on iMovie, and all are in Nikon's AVI format. To date I have about 300 of them, hoping that one day they won't just gather dust.
As I understand it these are the recommended steps that Apple encourages:
    1) Import movies from camera onto hard disk (Aperture prompts me to do this when I import photos)
    2) Import all movies into iMovie
    3) Export for AppleTV (creating new projects for each video, individually!)
    4) Import into iTunes
    5) Sync with AppleTV
This is awful. For comparison, here is my current workflow for photos to get them to show on AppleTV...
    1) Import photos into Aperture.
Assuming iTunes is already running (and it mostly is), there's not even a step two. iTunes is set up to sync a "Recent Import" smart album from Aperture to AppleTV so everything else is behind the scenes. A few seconds after importing I'm viewing new photos on my AppleTV.
Since AppleTV is actually built for video, I'm hoping for a revised workflow that can showcase my movies as quickly as it does photos.
I'm currently not running a hacked version of the AppleTV OS, but would consider it if it simplifies the process. Automator workflows, Finder Folder Actions, and AppleScripts are also fair game.

Thanks pvonk. I get that video is more complex than photos, but Apple still wrote its photo applications to accept all sorts of photo file types (even the many proprietary RAW formats). So I don't think it's crazy to question why this workflow isn't easier for video. Especially when Apple is the biggest champion of integrated video solutions.
Right now, here's my best guess at a workable solution. Care to weigh in?
    Setup:
    1) Attach a folder action to a folder (let's say ~/Movies/Imported/)
    2) Folder-Action runs shell script that converts videos to mp4 via HandBrake's command line tool
    3) Shell script triggers another folder action upon HandBrake completion to pushes the completed file to a new folder (let's say ~/Movies/Converted/)
    4) "Converted" folder action to import to iTunes (perhaps Applescript? Automator?)
~ if one could automatically add a meta tag (let's say "AppleTV") they could be added to a smart album on iTunes that is set up to sync with AppleTV
    *Workflow after Setup:*
    1) Import all movies to a folder (~/Movies/Imported/)
Does this sound about right? My shell scripting skills are less than adequate for this, so if there is a way to accomplish this with AppleScript, that'd be ideal.
Any other suggestions to simplify the workflow? The setup here still seems overly complex for a normal user. I can't imagine the folks at Apple really excited about the hurdles involved in this either, so I hope that they're working out a solution already.

  • Anyone else having trouble using Home Sharing on AppleTV (3rd Gen) on wired network?

First my setup:  I'm on a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro, D-Link DIR-615 Router, AppleTV (3rd Gen).
Problem: Couldn't connect to Home Sharing via the AppleTV.
I was having serious trouble getting Home Sharing working on my AppleTV (3rd Gen).  I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Tech Support.  Then, after forwarding the proper ports (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2463?viewlocale=en_US), spending another hour and a half with D-Link.  Then I even called my ISP.  Anyway, after A LOT of futzing around, I finally realized that Home Sharing is working on my iPhone (4S), so maybe it's a wifi thing.  I unplugged the ethernet cable from my AppleTV and connected it to my wireless network.  Keep in mind, same network, just now it's connected via a different channel (wireless now versus wired before).
Suddenly, works just fine, no issues at all.
What's going on?  Anyone have any idea?  My port forwarding is now not even set to the correct IP address of my AppleTV (was ...100 when it was wired, but on wifi it grabbed ...103).  It would be great to know what's going on.  Also, hopefully this helps someone else having the same problem.

Yesterday I bought Apple tv, and connected it on a free LAN port on my DLINK DIR-615.
All settings are ok , appleID en home sharing are set en activated but nothing shows...
The problem seems simular on yours. Tonight when I get home, i'll disconnect de LAN and try wireless....
We will see.  Thanks fot the hint

  • Play HD home video via AppleTV to a big screen

I'm moving up to the full package, iMac, Final Cut Express, and a new AVCHD camera (Canon Vixia). Will I be able to play my edited home video from the iMac through my AppleTV to my 60" Sony in full 1920x1080 so it looks the same as direct from the camera? If not, short of buying a blu-ray burner and player, how else can I get all that glorious HD video to my Sony for the whole family to enjoy?

AppleTv is not a high powered device, and is quite long in the tooth. It can't handle 1080p let alone 720p at 30 fps.
New Mac Mini with HDMI should have the power to play the video back, but I'm not sure if AVCHD is supported for playback.
I find 1080p 24fps video from my DSLR converts pretty well for AppleTV usage at 720p 24fps, you'd also probably get by with PAL 25fps at 720p, but it's 960x540 for NTSC rates unless you change frame rate and that should be avoided.
For AppleTV you need to output h264 <5Mbps with AAC audio (theoretically).

  • Sorting home videos into appletv "home video"  category

I have the lastest update for Appletv Sept 2013 and see there is a "Home videos" categopry and wondered how I could sort only my home videos in the homevideos category and purchased movies into the moview category.
    is that possible?

Try using the Share > iTunes... menu item in iMovie, then sync the movie to Apple TV from iTunes. This is the easiest way of getting an iMovie project onto Apple TV. Is this what you've been doing?

  • Watching my Home Videos

I bought an ATV2 two days ago and am pretty happy with most of it. I really wish that it had the same functionality as iPhoto in regard to running a slideshow with both videos and photos. But since it doesn't I have set up to run photos and videos separately. The photos work fine.
Today I copied my videos from iPhoto to iTunes and asked ATV2 to play them and it seems that they can only be played one at a time rather than one after the other like a slideshow. I suppose that the product is designed assuming that Movies are true movies rather than short little Home Videos like I have.
Can anyone suggest a way that I can get them to play in a long string rather than one at a one?

Actually, I do have a playlist with the videos in it. Each video has a little symbol that looks kind of like a flat screen TV. Does that mean it is flagged as "movies" as you say?
But when I select Movies on ATV2 I don't get any chance to select a playlist. It just opens a list of all my videos which I assume comes directly from my iTunes Movies library. When I select a movie to play it just plays that one and then stops. I may be missing something but I just can't figure out a way to play them all one after the other.

  • AUS : Why no TV show purchases on AppleTV 2nd Gen?

Hi All, I have recently purchased an ATV2...
My Apple TV (1st Gen) still shows a list of TV shows that can be purchased from iTunes, as does my iMac running iTunes 10.5.1.
Why is it that my new Apple TV (2nd Gen) cannot?

You cannot purchase TV shows on ATV 2 as there is no hard-drive. In the US you can currently stream purchased shows via iCloud but it hasn't been rolled out to other locations at this time (likely due to licensing).

  • Cant watch itunes home videos on ipad

How do I view my uploaded itunes "home videos" on my ipad?  os 10.10.1 and os 8.1.1

    If you have :
    - home sharing enabled on your Mac's iTunes (File > Home Sharing ; and check what is being shared in the Sharing tab in iTunes > Preferences)
    - home sharing enabled on your iPad with the same account (Settings > Videos or Settings > Music)
    - both the Mac and your iPad connected to the same network and,
    - iTunes is open on your Mac
then you should get a 'Shared' tab at the top of the Videos app which will allow you to select your Mac's iTunes videos. All your Mac's Movies (so actual films as well as home videos) will probably be shown on the same screen on your iPad, mine doesn't distinguish between type of 'film'. Not sure whether it's just my library, but I don't get cover art showing for all of my shared videos on my iPad.
