Watching movies in the car

Did do a search before but haven't found an answer yet.
I have bought a nice and easy headrest mount for the iPad and would like to use the iPad for the kids to watch movies in the back.
Now the 32GB capacity all of a sudden is not a lot...
So I was thinking if there would be a possibility to store some movies somewhere and still watch them on the iPad.
An idea that came to mind was to have a 12V converter in the car and connect an Airport Express to it and connect a usb drive/stick to it with the movies on it. And watch the videos like that.
No with a bit of searching I found that (at least as far as I found out) the Airport Express is not suitable however the Airport Extreme I have found that it could work (as I haven't found news that it wasn't possible).
The other thing is the app to watch the movies. The App that comes with the iPad only allows movies from the hard drive of the iPad (which was synced with the movies in iTunes)
** (A bit Off topic; but in Belgium there are no movies that you can buy with iTunes (just audiobooks), and a very limited amount of books via iBooks....**
And if I do get it to work do the movies have to be in a special format so that the iPad can show them of the "external" hard drive?
So short my idea;
1- 12V - 220V converter
2- Airport (a version)
3- USB hard drive/USB stick connected to the Airport
4- Have an App get the movie from the external source over WI-FI

The Photos app can obtain movies of certain types through the Camera Connection Kit. So you could put your movie (in a supported format) onto your thumb drive in the \DCIM directory, or do the same with an SD card. Then you could Import the movie and play from your Photos app.
I've done both of these things and gotten beautiful fullscreen video. Plus the Camera Connection Kit requires no extra batteries and is relatively inexpensive.
The downside is that you have to have the movies in non-DRM format, and you have to let Photos import the movie before you can play it.
The upside is that SD cards are pretty cheap, and you don't have to buy high-spec expensive cards to do this. And you might be able to throw some movies onto chips you were going to use for photography anyway (the iPad will offer to delete the movies after import if you like), making your cost very low.

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception.  If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.
    Many Thanks

  • Can you watch movies on the new iPod nano?

I know you can watch movies on the iPod video, but i wasnt sure if i'd be wasting my money on buying a movie from the itunes store and not being able to watch it.
      Windows XP

The iPod nano does not support video. The processor is not strong enough, along with other things.
Also, do not try iPod Linux, even though you might hear that its awesome.
    1. Even iPod Linux does not support iPod nano downloads.
    2. Voids any Warranty you have on yoru iPod.
    3. Not unusual for it to leave your iPod as a large domino, and with no warranty, you're out of luck.
    I hope this helps!

  • HT201335 when i watch movies from the web with airplay on my apple tv stop every 2 minuts

when i watch movies from the web with airplay on my apple tv stop every 2 minuts

I have a similar issue with my Home Sharing.  Everything plays just fine on my Apple TV except when I try to play a movie using Home Sharing.  If I choose the same show or movie from the Purchased section of iTunes it works just fine but nothing ever loads for me on Home Sharing.
Not the exact same issue, but very similar.  Good luck, I'm hoping to learn something here too!

  • I am getting a lot of static when using Brookstone wireless headphones and watching movies on the Apple TV. I know it is not headphones, because they work fine when I switch it to cable TV, then the sound is clear with no static. Any suggestions?

I am getting a lot of static when using Brookstone wireless headphones and watching movies on the Apple TV. Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Which is the better for watching movies in the pho...

Hey. Im getting a new phone and I'm wondering which one of
the Nokia 6120 Classic and the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic is best for watching movies in the phone?

The N95 may have a bigger screen than the 6120c, but they both have a pixel count of 240x320. On the N95 the picture is bigger but at lower resolution: 142 dpi on the N95-8 vs 200 dpi on the 6120i.
They're both not suitable for watching movies.

  • Is there anyway I can watch movies on the go through a usb?

I got the new ipad air for christmas love it but one problem its 32gb, which is fine but i want my movies on there to watch on the go in the car e.t.c as its only a wifi. i tried using the camera connection kit so i can watch the movies on my usb stick but it only gives me the option to copy them to and from the ipad. I must, at this point, point out these movies are digital copys and already mp4 format. is there any way of doing what i want to do without jailbreaking?
    thanks
    Josh

No. There is zero support to watch from a USB. The only thing it supports is how you've used it, import, watch, delete.
You could look into something like the seagate goflex, which is a portable harddrive that is also a wifi transmitter that you can hook your iPad up to and use to stream from the drive to your iPad.

  • Ipod for watching movies at the gym

How do I load movies in mp4 format onto my ipod and watch them at the gym
on the equipment designed to view ipods?
Is there another way to watch movies I own outside of the apple store
    bought movies?

I sure wish somebody would answer this. It might be something very simple,
like the fact that I have changed my default MP4 player, to a GNU player,
perhaps I need to set the default player to QuickTime and then I can load and watch my home movies?
Surely there must be a tool to listen to songs you recorded (like my self hypnosis files that iTunes tells me, "you don't have the rights to listen to (insert my recording) or to watch my home movies?

  • Movies in the car????????????????

Why is it that when i hood my ipod to my alpine deck in my truck via the ipod plug, when i watch a youtube video the music stops and the audio from the videa plays, but i cant watch movies that are saved in "MY VIDEOS", does anyone know if this is fixable?

I could have sworn that the Touch requires an expensive cable to output video. I think its about $30 or more. There are also 3rd party cables that will work too. What cable are you using now?

  • Watch movies on the 3g IPad

  • Watching videos in the car off USB stick ~ Need direction

We have the new iPad 32GB without phone, version 6.1.3.  I have a Lightning to USB camera adapter and a few USB sticks lying around....  I have a significant Movie collection on an HTPC on our home network and would like to move some of these for the kids for a trip we'll be taking soon..
I attempted to load an MKV file onto a 2GB USB stick, stored in a DCIM folder and renamed the movie to DCS_0001 and then also tried PICT_0001.  In each case I then connected the USB stick to the cable and then the cable to the ipad.  The photo app loads but then tells me that there are no photos to import.
    Am i doing this right?
    Any help or suggestions?
    TIA.
    Regards,

It can be done, but not easily. I've had the best luck with using SD cards. Most USB sticks trigger the 'too much power' warning. Your videos do have to be the precise format, MP4 and you can't view them off the card, you have to import them onto your device, open via the photos app which will then open the video app and play the video. Also, maybe mine were made wrong, but since there are no names on the files, I had nothing but black thumbnails so had to guess import.
So it can work, but it's a lot of hoops to jump through. If you're going to be using it as a kid distraction tool, then I'd go for easy, which would be the drive James suggested. If you need to convert formats, Handbrake is a good conversion tool. mpegstreamclip also works well, as does format factory (that one is PC only)

  • How can I watch movie on the big screen TV, rented on the PC , using AppleTV

AppleTV is great in viewing A/V files from the PC hard drive. But rental movie from iTunes doesn't seem to load on the HD and therefore I cannot see it on the big screen. Any idea would help. Would it work under MacOS? I use iMac.

Is this AppleTV 1 or AppleTV 2?
If ATV1 (silver) you would need to 'move' the rnetal to the AppleTV using iTunes.
If ATV2 (black) it would appear under Computers > Your iTunes Library Name >Rentals.

  • Watching movie files on ipad just with the connection kit

Hello everybody. A simple question. Can I watch movies on the ipad 2 only with the connection of an usb stick? Or have I copy the file on the ipad 2 to watch the movie? Thanks

The kit is aimed at copying content from digital cameras, so it only copies into the Photos app, not into the Videos app. I've just tried it with a couple of videos via the CCK - an MP4 video copied into the Photos app and played there, an M4V originally downloaded from iTunes copied into Photos but won't play there (plays ok when synced from my computer into the Videos app).
The supported video formats on the iPad are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • How to watch movie on slixster on the Z10

I have some movies saved on Flixster.  I have downloaded the Flixster app for the Z10 but the movie will not load to watch.  I can see the movie I own, click on it to see details of the movie but when I click on the "Watch Now" button, nothing happens, even after several hours of letting the phone do something (not sure what it is doing as there is no indication that anything is happening).  I can click on the 'Watch Now' button all day as well and nothing happens.  How do you watch movies on the Z10?

    Good day
