Watching movies on projector hooked up as second monitor

Hey all, here's a real good question for you. I currently have a projector (nec lt84 OLD!!!) and love it. It's hooked up to my G5 DC 2.0ghz with the 128meg geforce 6600lt (the stock video card with the dual core 2.0ghz). The projector's resolution is 1024x768 (it's native resolution is 800x600, but it runs interpolated at this higher resolution.) as I have it mirrored to a second monitor (LCD PANEL) that's at that resolution native. My projector is dying, and I'm getting a new one. I can't really afford to get one of the 1280x720 models, and I don't really watch anything on my projector except movies; which are a native 720x480. So the projector I'm looking at is a 854x480. The problem is I don't think the OS will really work well at that resolution. So what I'm wondering is, is there a way to make only the movies appear on the projector, and have the os and everything else run on the monitor at 1024x768? The projector will probably be DVI and the LCD PANEL is VGA (which I already have an adapter for to hook up to the DVI port on the G5.)
Good luck in answering!!

Actually those extra lines make all the difference in the world. Some windows in the OSX enviroment can't be resized. So, you end up dragging the windows around the screen to get to the top or bottom of the window. If you haven't noticed, you can't drag a window past the top of the screen. Try it. So if the particular window you have is bigger than 480 pixels tall, I won't be able to click anything lower than 480 pixels. A good example of this is the system preferences pane. If you have to click an apply button or something, no go. So, is there a way to make the movies go full screen on the second monitor?

My office just bought me an iMac and I absolutely need to hook up a second monitor but there is no DVI connection on it, just a Thunderbolt. What do I do? Please help ASAP!!! The imac is a 21.5" and they also already bought an HD 21.5 ASUS LCD monitor to attach to it. I'm really trying to make this setup work but this is becoming a nightmare. Any suggestions? I looked up  different VGA adapters but the only options for this would be a usb-vga connection which doesn't work on macs. Can anyone tell me if this new Thunderbolt connection will work in some way? Thanks

Using the Thunderbolt port attach a Mini-display to DVI so long as the Asus display is equipped and capable, otherwise Mini-display to VGA will also work. The Thunderbolt port is ahead devices  which are not yet available to take advantage of the increased capacity in speed. Until the devices and connection cables are available, just use the port as a Mini-display port.

  • Epson Projector not working as second monitor

Does anyone know how to set up an Epson Projector to a Macbook Pro? I have a mini display to VGA adapter. We are running Bootcamp and Windows XP Pro. You can make the 2nd screen in the display properties in a continuous page. So you can see on the projection but you can not make the whole desktop a projection. So it will work as a continuous desktop but not as a primary desktop.
    Any help is appreciated!

See this post. I think it will help in your situation also.

For some reason the 'Display Properties' does not always 'stick' and often does not do what you are trying to do. (at least that is what I have found) so going to the advanced settings and creating a 'scheme' has fixed issues similar to this.

  • How do you move Mail, Preview to second monitor?

This is probably a dumb question... I have a second monitor connected to my Macbook Pro. I can move Chrome and other programs to second monitor by dragging them there. I'm unable to drag Mail, Preview to the second monitor.....
    What am I doing wrong?

    Do you mean ---
To a second monitor, or to a third, "grade" monitor?
How "most" people are doing it... among the now 1.4 million licensees of FCP, I can't really comment. I don't think there are that many grade monitors in use, fewer users of even external monitors. For two-monitor setups, the use of a 2xDVI GPU is the way to go, but the video is NOT conditioned for broadcast display, at least up to this version, and not likely to change until Snow Leopard, when the 1.8/2.2 issue is rumoured to be addressed.
The preferred method that was envisioned by the engineering team was to use an AJA or Blackmagic AV-SDI interface, so that all the up/down/cross gamma and colourspace and framerate and resolution issues could be taken care of by somebody else.
There is a landslide of opposition to this because "proper monitors and video interfaces are too expensive". So "many" people gaff-tape and Rube-Goldberg "less expensive" solutions using computer graphics displays. They run into a lot of problems, not restricted to, for examples, an inappropriate contrast ratio, non-standard spectral response, and incompatible third-party color profiling which completely garbles the output.
It is an extremely complex problem. At the moment only SDI is supported, FireWire will likely never happen as it doesn't have the bandwidth to be useful.

  • Added second monitor computer won't wake up

I have reviewed several support threads on the subject of a 2008 Mac Pro not waking up after it goes to sleep.  I have a 2008 mac pro that was working flawlessly with a 26 inch asus monitor.  My bluetooth mouse and keyboard would wake it up instantly.  I decided to add a second monitor, a 27 inch planar.
I had the mac set up to save power and after just five minutes of non-use it would go to sleep.  My wife asked me if I would keep it on longer so she could watch the pictures that show up through the screen saver so I set it to 15 minutes and then it goes to sleep.  Now though, if it goes to sleep it won't wake up and remote connections from an imac fail to awaken it as well.  I am forced to hold down the power button to shut it down.  I have tried the startup where I hold down command option p r but I can't get it to sound a second chime whether I start after the first chime or before the gray screen appears.  After trying this every other restart does not work, the fans turn on but nothing else happens.  It is quite odd.  I am at my witts end.  I suppose the proper course of action is to disconnect the second monitor and see if it wakes up, but I am hoping before I do that that someone might weigh in on the issue and solve it.  I guess I should also try a usb keyboard as well.  Thanks in advance for reading this and I hope you can help me out with this.  John

Ok, here is where I am at.  I reseated the two dimms.  They are now showing up.  I still can't get a PRAM reset to work and I have not obtained a USB keyboard yet.  I reset the PRAM on my imac with a bluetooth keyboard and it worked so I believe I am doing it properly.   I reset smc via following directions on an Apple page.  I am hooking up the second monitor now and will see how it goes. I will keep you posted.  Thank you.

  • Connect a g5imac to a g4 powerbook as a second monitor

    Is this possible?
I want to use the laptop as a bigger screen to aid in editing, is it possible?
I have a powermac g5imac with 2 gig ram in.
    Thanks in advance.

Andy simply answered your very specific question. Now, if you want to hook up a second monitor (not the laptop as you first asked) to your iMac then you may get a few longer answers. Like, Maybe.
If you are editing DV then you should be able to connect your DV cam or deck via FW then connect a monitor to your camera or deck. However, this will just give you a playback monitor, you will not be able to extend your desktop to this monitor. With an iMac I think that is impossible to do because of the lack of additional video (DVI or VGA) outputs.
    Long enough?

  • HP envy won't recognize second monitor

I just purchaes an HP Envy 17t-j100 select edition notebook. I am trying to hook up a second monitor. The monitor is not the issue it works fine with the other laptops in the office however when i plug it into this one it wont recognize it and the screen on the second monitor just says cable not connected. I have a cord that is HDMI to plug into the computer and a VGA on the other side to plug into the monitor.

    Hi,
Do you have a converter in between ? From HDMI (digital) to VGA (analog) you need a converter. Some "cord" may have builtin converter but some may not. Please check and get a right converter.
    Regards.

    Bonjour,
    Merci.

Question: if one connects a 2e screen on catch monitor of a iMac 20' (2006-01), is it possible, to be useful itself of this 2e screen to put the pallets of this software at it, while keeping only the window principle file on the screen of the iMac?

  • Second monitor stays in sleep mode even though it's detected.

    Hello,
So I just hooked up a second monitor through a second VGA port on my computer. For some reason that second monitor just stays in
sleep mode and never wakes up, even if I restart the computer. I've set the settings to where it should detect by
Right Click -> Screen resolution and making sure it's detected by a VGA port. I've also set up my Graphics Card to where it's compatible with 2 monitors.

    Hi,
Generally speaking, this problem most probably caused by Graphic driver problem, it would be better to check if the driver was upgrade to be latest, if not, upgrade it to be latest for test.
If your computer had another integrated graphic card, try to disable one of them in BIOS for test.
Please also make sure computer motherboard chipst driver and BIOS was upgrade to be latest.
If problem persists, plase try to remove first monitor to check if the second monitor could be work correctly.
If there is any progress, please feel free let me know.

  • I cannot get my second monitor to work!

    Hi,
I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and I am trying to hook up a 17 inch ADC studio monitor to it. I have the DVI-ADC adapter and I have everything hooked up properly. The USB ports work on the monitor (I have my wireless mouse plugged into it and it works properly) and the extended desktop is turned on because there are definitely window that I dragged over there. When I hit the power button it flashes white and then flashes off again.
Is the screen defective? Did I do something wrong?
    Thanks!

Thank you so much for getting back to me.  By not connecting I mean, it will not show a picture.  When I right click and change the display settings, I have gone through every possible reolution setting on none of them produce a picture other than an occasiional flickering screen on the very lowest resolution setting.
The monitor model is HF 199H and it is still relatively new and in great condition.
I bought the Rocketfish connector (RF-AP307) as I was told by the Apple Techs at Best Buy that I needed the cable in order to hook up a second monitor.  There's also an HDMI output from the monitor but I do not have the cable to connect to my computer.
Is there a chance that somehow bootcamp will not allow for me to extend my screen?

  • Setting up a second monitor to a hp p2-1122 desktop

I want to set up a second monitor (MAG innovision  900p) to my HP p2-1122 desktop computer. The hp monitor that came with the computer is hooked up to the VGA port and the only other port I see is a dvi port. What additional equipment will I need to get so that I can hook up the second monitor?

    According to the specs for your HP Pavilion p2-1122 Desktop Computer, this model has integrated Radeon HD 7310 graphics that supports DVI and VGA output ports (can be used at the same time) as shown below;
    2 - DVI-D (digital only)                    3 - VGA (analog only)
Please provide the complete brand and model numbers of both monitors you are trying to use with your computer. Your computer will only support one VGA monitor and one DVI-D monitor. No other combination will work without the use of adapters and/or converters.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception.  If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.
    Many Thanks

It's actually my fault that psoon ended up here ... s/he intially posted over at Home Sharing, and I tried a relocate request to Apple TV rather than iPad.

I had the exact same thing happen ... for the second time.  I'm done renting movies on Apple TV that I cannot watch, and don't get my money back.  I have a strong Internet connection, and about 10 minutes into a movie and it stops and says that the movie will be ready to view in 55 hours.  Rediculous ... and frustrating.  I don't know how to fix this, and I disagee with the other person responding to you who said it was your network.  I have a strong network, running through an Airport Extreme -- and this problem persists.  I'm done.
