Watching movies

I have transferred my own DVDs to mp4 format to play on my ipad2. I put them on a memory stick to save the moment in the iPad. I bought a camera connection kit/USB kit but I can't get the movies to register - is this possible to do or do I have to put them onto the iPad? Any help please?

On a previous iOS version I copied films via the kit (I haven't tried on iOS 5+) into the Photos app and was able to play them - I couldn't get them into the Videos app and films bought from Apple copied to Photos but didn't play (I assume that they only play in the Videos app). The kit only recognises content that is in a particular format - the card has to have a DCIM directory off its root, with the photos/videos underneath it with filenames exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus file extension.

You need a CONVERTER, not ADAPTER The setup:

You also need sound, you can buy a converter with sound OR connect sound directly from laptop to TV.

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception. If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.

Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same.

Connecting MacBook to TV to watch movies

I am wanting to connect my MacBook to my television but not sure what cable(s) to buy to be able to watch movies on my TV. It's not for HD, just a standard tv. My tv in the living room only has scart and the three colours (Red, Yellow, White).. Its pretty old.. hopefully get a new one soon :P.. but the one in my room has S-Video.. Is there a big different in video/audio quality between the two? If so.. what's best? Is S-Video just for the picture and will i not need something else for sound?

Depends on what input options you have on your TV.
If your TV has DVI in then you need a MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter.
If your TV does not have DVI in but has HDMI then you need a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support.

How do I make my screen look better when watching movies?

I notice when I watch movies on my Macbook that there are negative parts when I'm sitting on an angle. Is there any way to solve this through calibrating it or the right lighting. This doesn't happen on my sister's older Powerbook G4 that has a matte screen.

Try not watching it on an angle and also try recalibrating it. Play around with the calibration until you find a setting that looks good for movies. Then save it. You can switch to it whenever you watch movies then.

I find it hard to believe that this information isn't clearly available somewhere, but it isn't and I don't think I've seen anyone here who is 100% sure. However, I believe you can have up to 10 associated devices, which include authorised computers (of which you can have up to 5), I suspect the Apple TV might become a temporary associated device while it's in use, but I'm not entirely sure myself.

Both atv,s are on the same network, they are wirless and the computer can see them and they are named different.
what ever one i switch on first gets to stream from my computer and the other one asks for home sharing to be switched on, then if i switch both off and start the other one first it gets to stream and the other one which worked asks for home sharing to be turned on. i have hidden all functionality, netflix etc as these are for my 7yr old kids.

Can no longer connect with itunes store to watch movies. How come?

I have been using Apple TV to watch movies on my television set for several months with no problems. The last movie I watched was on Nov. 22/13, but since then every time I want to rent a movie, I am unable to access the itunes store. I get a message saying Unable to sign In and that I should try again later. I have tried about 15 times over 2 days and keep getting the same message. Oddly enough I can actually watch the preview of any movie, but when I go through the process of actually renting the movie, then I get the message that I am unable to access the itunes store. What is the solution? Same problem with NETFLIX.

Try running iTunes Diagnostics and pasting the output here.
What firewall software are you running on your computer? Try to set it up again or uninstall it (for testing purposes only).

Is IOS 8 really appropriate with Ipod Touch 4, if the older Ipods do not have the capability then why are we prompted to install new operating systems.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync/delete all videos and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Perhaps you should ask over in the iPad community, you may get better answers there.
It's actually my fault that psoon ended up here ... s/he intially posted over at Home Sharing, and I tried a relocate request to Apple TV rather than iPad.
