Watching Netflix Through an Old Toshiba TV

Lets try this again...
I have a ten year old Toshiba TV (Model-SR32) that I would like to play Netflix through.  I got an Apple Component cable which has the 5 (red, red, white, yellow, green and Blue) connectors which I hooked to the colorstream outlets on my TV and connected to my IPad.  I am able to get audio but the picture is scrambled and completely unwatchable.  The same cable works on our other HD TV so I think that the problem lies with the Toshiba.  Are there any settings, either on the TV or the Ipad, that I need to change to remedy this situation.  Would I have better luck with a Roku or is this model too outdated for this purpose?

What A/V cable setup are you using? The Apple branded setup that has a doc connector, etc or a simple generic cable that goes only into the headphone jack?
Either way however, up until the recent update to the Netflix App you could not use TV out from Netflix.
Are you using an iPhone4 ? The update above only applies to iP4.

  • Is there a cable I can use for iPad one to watch Netflix and play apps on my HDTV? I bought the hdmi connector but it only works on iPad 2.

I bought the hdmi and didn't realize you can only use it for iPad 2. I want to be able to watch Netflix through my iPad 1. And also play my apps on my big screen is there any cable out that will let me do this on my iPad 1.

Unfortunately, that's a limit with the original iPad.

  • What is the cheapest way to be able to watch NETFLIX on my TV through my computer?

I am wanting to cancel some of my cable programs, so that my bill wasn't so high and I thought about streaming to my TV from my iMac, but wasn't sure on the most inexpensive way?  Can anyone help?

if the iMac is in another room, the Apple TV is cheapest and easiest ($100).
Depending on the age of the iMac and if it's close, you can buy a Moshi HDMI adapter ($35) and an HDMI cable (varies by length) and basically turn the TV into another monitor. New HDMI can carry both video and audio. If it's older, you will need a 3.5mm split Y RCA cable to carry audio.
But honestly after buying those wires, you're close enough to the Apple TV price, you might as well buy that. it's easier and an advantage of that is now you can watch netflix and use your iMac simultaneously.

  • Why can't I watch netflix on tv through iPad?

Why can't I watch Netflix on my TV using my iPad. A note comes up saying to turn off AirPlay. How do you do that?

Select "iPad" to turn off AirPlay.

  • 65L7350U No optical audio output when watching Netflix

Purchased a 65L7350U to replace a dying Mitsubishi.  I like to use headphones so have set of Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones, these are analog, not digital.  When I plugged the RCA jacks from the Sennheiser headphones into the new Toshiba TV, there was no sound.  Then I relaized I had the same issue with a LG TV I bought a few months ago.  I solved the issue on the LG by going to Radio Shack and buying a DA-710 Digital Audio to Analog Converter and a short Optical Audio cable.  So on my LG, I can listen to TV and Netflix through my Sennheiser RS120s (another set, I have several).  Note that on the LG, I'm getting Netflix through a Roku device.
So I buy the Radio Shack DA-710 converter thinking this will allow me to use my headphones with my new Tohsiba TV.  In fact, I am able to listen to TV over the headphones.  The issue is when I switch to Netflix (which came with the Toshiba TV, i.e. not using a Roku device), there is no sound.
My wife called Tohsiba support.  Their suggestion was to reset the TV to factory defaults and set up the wireless internet connection again...which we did but that did not resolve the issue.
I surfed around the net and found similar issues with Toshiba TVs not sending NetFlix audio to amps/sound systems.  There was discussion about the proprietary nature of optical audio signals (Tos-link vs. Dolby vs. ARC...I dont know).
So I'm requesting feedback to understand, or better yet, resolve the inability to hear audio on through my headphones while watching NetFlix.  Again, headphones work fine for TV.  Also, I can hear the sound on NetFlix through the TV speakers, just not throught he headphones.
Looking forward to your feedback or suggestions.
    Regards,
    Mike_D

  • I keep getting the endless blue circle when trying to watch netflix on my macbook pro, despite completely uninstalling/reinstalling silverlight?

I'm putting this question in the Macbook Pro category because I'm not having this problem on a similar age Macbook Air, both of which are running Lion, so I'm wondering if its not something to do with the graphics card or something else specific to this laptop?  The software suite isn't the same between the two computers, so that could also be an issue, if anyone has any ideas about what software may be interfering.
The long and short of it is that when I try to watch netflix on my 2011 Macbook Pro, I get the Silverlight blue dots that spin around in a circle in the middle of the screen, and that's it.  I assumed it was a silverlight problem, so I completely uninstalled/trashed the silverlight plugin and all its associated files (having read other forums where detailed command-line instructions were given) and reinstalled, and I still have the same problem.  And it occurs in 3 browsers: chrome, firefox, and safari.
And here's the real kicker -- I'm running Windows 7 in Parallels.....and when I try to watch netflix on my VM, I no longer get the blue circle....BUT the movies/shows don't play.  I can scroll through the entire show and the current frame will come up, but it will not play --- the play button is depressed (ie, I can only see a pause button) but nothing happens -- it's as if the

There are several issues for sure you may be dealing with all of which may be related. I would start by saying that you experienced a "Kernel Panic" during the boot camp partition, described in article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1392. I would advise that for the heat issue and the kernel panics in conjunction, may be a good push to get diagnostics at a retail store or apple service provider.

  • I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • Unable to connect to Netflix through Apple TV (ATV-ui62)

I can connect to Netflix through my iMac but unable to connect via ATV, any suggestions? I've done both hard and soft resets of ATV to no avail and rebooted router. I have a 3rd Generation ATV.

I have the same issue, but I'm not using a VPN. I can also watch netflix on my Macbook Pro or on my iPad Air. If I try to Airplay netflix from my iPad to the AppleTV (2d gen) it will pop up a message saying an error has occurred, I can though,  Airplay through my Macbook but only because I'm using the browser to stream the Netflix content.
Maybe it is the Geographical thing.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • How to stream content to my old Toshiba 24AF41 CRT TC

Using the red & white cords & inputs, I can attach a WII to my old Toshiba TV (with my poor eyesight, this is all I need) and via my wireless network and the WII, I can access Netflix.  However, I now have Amazon Prime and can stream other content to my laptop.  Is there any way to get content from my laptop to the trusty old Toshiba.  The tv has no HDMI input.  Thanks!  ....a new tv isn't in this year's budget

Unfortunately, if your laptop only has HDMI out and the TV only has composite input, I don't think there's a way to do it without purchasing some other device.

  • 3D TV 42TL515U Remote becomes unresponsive and TV crashes while watching Netflix

Back in March I ordered a brand-new in-the-box 3D TV 42TL515U TV. The TV has been running great except starting last weekend (Oct. 7th)
I noticed the remote become completely unresponsive to the TV except if I held in the power button.
The remote would work fine when the TV was turned off and turned back on for about 10 minutes and then become unresponsive.
Changing the batteries in the remote had zero effect to correct this issue.
While I was trying to watch Netflix, the TV would crash and shut off and turn back on every 12 minutes (I timed it).
I get this issue when the TV is either hard-wired or wirelessly connected to my network.
    I have the lasted TV patch/software version 2.2.2 Oct 26 2011 - 11:34
What can I do to get my TV functiong properly again?

I don't understand why we have to call "customer support" when this isn't an individual issue, its a universal one that needs to be addressed with a firmware update.
This is just awful on Toshiba's part that they can't even push out fixes for issues like this. It's not like we're asking for new content or updated codecs' to play more file types... THIS IS ABOUT COMMON FUNCTIONALITY.
And what's more convenient, Toshiba offers no online chat or even a support email. Awesome job!

  • Ea 6500 Watching Netflix on xbox makes home Lan computer choppy

Ok my xbox is connected through the router with my daughters laptop and ipod, but my Desktop isn't connected through router, it is Lan connected, everytime my kids watch netflix on the xbox my desktop goes wacky, the mouse is skippy, even when i try to do things not on internet (I have Windows8) it seems that the xbox is pulling too much of internet, what can i do to limit the amount of internet the xbox gets, I tried the prioritize the pc first, didn't work.... can anyone help please

Hi, based on your first post above. You have mentioned that the DESKTOP isn't connected through router, it is Lan connected? Does that mean that the DESKTOP is currently connected to one the EA6500 router’s ports? Or is it connected to another device? By the way, are there any other computers connected to the EA6500 router that are having this same issue. Regardless if how the desktop was connected to the EA6500 router, theoretically it should not be affected if another wireless device will use the internet for online streaming.
The basic thing that you could do is to make sure that the EA6500’s firmware has been upgraded and you have reset the EA6500 after the firmware upgrade. Next is to check the actual internet connection coming from the router. Use a speed test website like http://speedtest.net in order for you to gauge on how much internet speed your computer was getting from the modem and from the router. With regard to filtering the bandwidth that the xbox will get from the router, you can try to check on the screed that I will show below. In a nutshell, wireless devices using internet access should not affect the performance of the wired device since they are on a different network topology.

  • I cant watch netflix on ipad, it wont let me download update because ipad doesnt have ios 4

When i click on the netflix app, it says to update to the latest version of the app. So when i try to download the update to the app, it tells me i cant download the app because my original ipad does not have ios 4.  So now i cant watch netflix on my ipad at all?? Please help.

Hmmmm, what to do.  I know.......update your software on your iPad .  If you have iOS 3.x a lot has changed, and you need to connect your iPad to your computer and install the latest OS via iTunes.  You're missing the cloud and a lot of great new features.  A lot of upgrades have come and gone since you last updated.  The current version is 5.1.1

  • When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

    This could be problematic.
It will depend on what model of iMac you have.
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the work hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back.  You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.
