Watching Rented Movies on Ipad

How do I transfer a rented movie from Itunes that is currently on my PC Desktop to my Ipad so that I can watch the movie on my Ipad?

Yes, if you rent and download it on your Mac then you can watch it on the Mac or the iPad - if you rent and download it directly on the iPad then you can only watch it on the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415

  • Can't watch rented movies on iPad

because my internet connection is so much better on my laptop than on my iPad, I rented two movies for an upcoming trip and when I tried to transfer them to my iPad, I can't.  I'm getting an error that you must watch the movies on the device where they were downloaded.
I would like to find out if I can cancel the movie rentals so I can try downloading them directly to my iPad.

Unless someone else has a suggestion, you'll need to go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
    Regards.

  • Watching Rented movies on IPAD / Concerns

    Hi guys,
I rented 3 movies from itunes on my MBP and transfered them to the IPAD, however, all 3 of them say " This movie cannot be played".....
I know on page 59 of the Ipad manual, it says specifically if you transfer rented movies from your computer to your Ipad you CAN watch them, but not the other way around....SO, has anyone else come across this problem and how did you resolve the issue..
    Thanks
    JW

I just confirmed with a senior apple engineer, that for some stupid reason (licensing?) you can rent movies on your apple tv, computer itunes, etc and transfer them to you ipad - but if you rent them on your ipad, you cannot transfer them back to your computer itunes to upload/watch on apple tv. Even if it is movie company licensing, it completely contradicts what all of their other devices can do. Pretty stupid - they need to get that fixed asap. As for now, i'll never rent a movie directly to my ipad until it's fixed, just in case I decide i want to watch it on my tv, instead.

We are going on a trip and wanted to rent some movies to watch on the plane. If we rent them now or the day we leave do we need to have
wifi on the plane to watch them or will they download to ipad so we can watch them anytime?

If you rent them now on the iPad then they should download now - and as long as the films are fully downloaded to the iPad (or you've synced them to the iPad from your computer's iTunes) then you shouldn't need to be online in order to then watch them.

  • HT1390 Watching rented movies on iPad

I keep getting the following: "The rental "Movie Name" could not be transferred to the iPad "iPad Name" because you are not authorized to play it on this computer." But my computer IS AUTHORIZED!

Since you make no mention of where you have looked, then I suggest looking in the videos app.

  • HT4095 Can I watch rented movies in my ipad 2 without internet connection.  I will be travelling by air and highway.  Ty

Can I watch rented movies in my ipad 2 without internet connection?

If you use iTunes to rent movies, then yes.
iTunes movies downloaded and stored directly to your iPad and if you don't start playing a movie, stay on your iPad for 30 days.
If you start to play a downloaded, rented movie on your iPad, then it will expire in 24 hours.
Other services, like Amazon, Netflix and Hulu need an Internet connection to stream their content.

can i watch rented movies on my ipad with no wifi? Like on a plane trip?

Yes. although you do occasionally hear about people having problems.  If your trip is less than 24 hours, it might be a good idea to start the movie while you're connected to WiFi (which will start the rental clock ticking) and pause it.  You're not supposed to have to do this, but some people swear it prevents the occasional glitch.  I've only rented a couple of movies and they worked find on the plane.

  • HT3209 viewing rented movies on iPad without internet connection

Can you watch rented movies downloaded on the iPad when you don't have an internet connection?

As long as the film has been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch it without being online.

  • HT1657 Can you watch rented movies in airplane mode?

can you watch rented movies from itunes on your iphone in airplane mode?

Actually, I just called AppleCare and they told me that an Internet connection was required. I tried it anyways. Once the rented movie is fully downloaded onto your iPad, it will appear in the Videos app, in the Rentals section. From there, even if you turn the airplane mode on, you should be able to press the play button and watch the movie. Note that I rented the movie in HD format and that I use the iPad 3rd generation.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

I just started have this same/simmilar issue to.  Was there a solution to the original question?  I have 2 ATVs.  One works without issue, the other... kicks me out repeatedly... to the point where the content will load for about 3 sec before kicking me all the way out.  Tried all the trouble shooting options including: checking latest software update, reset, hard restart, and checking router download speed (over 50 Mbps on speedtest.net).  Should mention this occurs most frequently when downloading Netflix content, but the same issue occurs downloading other content like PBS.

  • We used to be able to watch rented movies from Apple TV right away.  Now it takes hours.  Is there a setting to change?

We used to be able to watch rented movies from Apple TV right away.  Now it takes hours.  Is there a setting to change?  They used to start playing after a few minutes of starting the download but not now.  What's up?

Pat, I've been experiencing this issue intermittently for weeks.  It seems to occur with HD content --including HD trailers --exclusively.  Tonight has been no exception.
I have done considerable troubleshooting to try and isolate the cause.  My results suggest that Apple's servers are to blame but I've not seen many others reporting this issue in these forums lately.
I live only 170 miles from Apple's North Carolina server farm.  I assume my iTunes rentals are being fed from there.  My broadband connection is a fast one (30Mb down) and consistently tests near that speed when this issue occurs.
I have both a first and second generation AppleTV.  When this issue occurs, I will change devices and rent the same movie to see if th device itself is to blame.  The issue affects both.  I have tried using an ethernet connection instead of my Airport Extreme's 5Ghz wireless connection but that does not remedy the issue.
So... my broadband connection is more than capable, my router is performing optimally (I recently had my local Apple Store test it as well), and neither of my AppleTV's is immune to the issue, so...  it must be on the delivery end.
Unfortunately, Apple does not post the status of their iTunes Store's servers like they did with their MobileMe servers.  They should.  In fact, the AppleTV should display a status message when Apple's iTunes servers are experiencing technical difficulties or heavy network traffic.
I was an early adopter of AppleTV.  It has not been problematic until now.  This is trying my patience.  My advice is that you request a refund everytime this happens.  I do.
I am taking this matter to the VP of iTunes services.  If Apple's servers are choking, or if their streams are being throttled by ISP's, or internet TV is too ambitious for this country's internet infrastructure, I deserve to know.

  • ITunes won't let me watch rented movies!

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes message says I can't watch rented movies and recommended another QT version that I can't remember. What should I do? Note: in Systems Profiler, I have QT 7.5.5 in Apps and in Frameworks.

Apparently a lot of people have reading comprehension issues.  I have the same problem as op except I use first generation appleTV.  So for you slow people let me spell it out.
If you are trying to purchase movies on iTunes (this is the important part so pay attention) running on a computer that does not support HD you are NOT able to purchase HD movies.  The message that pops up says you cannot purchase HD movies on a computer that does not support HD.
The question the OP was asking and I have this question also is why does it matter if the computer I am buying the movie on supports HD when the intent is not to play the movie on the computer in the first place.  AppleTV does support HD and streams from itunes on the computer.
