Watching video in Safari with 10.5.1

Hi,
On my MBP,in Safari when I play a video it plays in the browser, on my macbook it opens a quicktime window. How do I make the video play in a QT windows instead of within safari?
Thanks
Fred

Fred, if you haven't already, set the MacBook QuickTime System preferences and QuickTime Player preferences the same as the MacBook Pro. Then set the Safari preferences the same. Do the same for any other video players you have.

How long is the iPad2 battery last while watching video on YouTube with 3G?

My iPad 2 battery can use only ~7 hours 15mins when surfing the web using cellular data network. Is it normal?
I would say that's normal. Cellular uses more power than wifi. Your screen brightness is also a factor. Lower the screen brightness & battery will last longer.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Macbook freezes a lot while watching video on safari?

    Hello everyone,
I have a early 2007 black macbook, 2GHz, 2GB RAM dual core. I had OS X 10.4 before on my machine. So the story goes like this: once I had a little issue with ethernet cable and I went to apple store to correct it. They replaced my motherboard and that issue was fixed.
But after they replaced the motherboard a new issue has started, whenever I watch any video on safari or play a simplest of game like 'Chess' that comes with OS X, the computer freezes for 10 seconds and falters to run anything or nothing runs smooth, it slows down the mac like 100 times with hitches. If I check the activity monitor, both processor's use are at their max 100%. Its not a RAM issue as I still see lots of free or unused RAM. It just consumes both the processors.
Originally this issue was only for the high quality video pages like espn360.com and used to occur only once in a while. I went to apple again (2 years back), they kept my mac for a week but returned without doing anything. They said "We could not reproduce the problem". Over the period of 2 years the issue has worsen and now I cannot even watch a youtube video without interruption for 2 min. If I pause the video and minimize safari, everything is back to normal within a minute but if i start the video again, it falters. Same with firefox/chrome.
I tried to upgrade to snow leopard, but it was of no use. I think 10.4 was little better than 10.6. Additionally, I don't have this faltering issue if I have a downloaded video on hard drive. Now I am out of warranty, I am not sure what should I do. Will Apple still repair it, because I believe its the new motherboard's fault or the graphics card on new motherboard is bad/gone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nik

Hi nik312, welcome to the forums!
If it's a Flash video, what version of Flash do you have installed? 10.1 is a lot faster than v9. But since it also happens in Chess, it could be an issue with OpenGL. Since you've tried the Erase and Install already, I'd try zapping the PRAM by following the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If that doesn't resolve your problem, I think it might a fault with your graphics card, and you might need another logic board replacement.

  • Watching videos through Safari on You Tube etc

I can't seem to watch any videos through Safari for instance on You Tube. They begin loading but never play. Please help I'm getting desperate!! And please use basic English I'm not at all technically minded, thank you!

Just to expand on Baby Boomer's good advice:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Watching video on tv with rca jacks using a ipad mini

Just wondering what I would need to watch video on my tv with rca inputs.  I have an older tv so I don't have hdmi.  Keep in mind I have an ipad mini, so I have the lightning charger, i.e. small plug in to ipad.  Thanks.

Yes we are talking about the same thing I believe.  Look at this http://store.apple.com/au/product/MC748ZM/A/apple-composite-av-cable?fnode=3a
This should be available in your store as well.  Then you just need the lightning/30 pin adapter.
You might find another adapter to suit on ebay.

  • Watching videos from Safari

I bought an Apple TV today after a great sales pitch from the sales lady. I own a MacBook Pro and an iMac. My husband uses the MacBook Pro to watch videos in online programs for work. The lady at Best Buy told me that anything that I can pull up my computer screen, I could also pull up on the Apple TV (so he could watch the videos on a larger than 13 inch screen. I am having a hard time getting videos to pull up that are not in itunes. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

Sorry but the sales information was wrong.
AppleTV cannot mirror content from a Mac computer currently and we have no idea of whether or not it will be able to do so in the future.
There's a feature called Airplay for iDevices to play COMPATIBLE video from COMPATIBLE websites on AppleTV or music from itunes.
iPad2 will soon be able to mirror it's display on ATV2 - it would be nice if OS X was allowed to do so too but no guarantee.

  • Why is the menu bar and dock staying on top when trying to watch videos on Safari/Chrome?

I just re-installed OS X Yosemite on my macbook pro. When i try to full screen videos (such as Netflix) on Safari, Chrome, etc. the menu bar stays on top of the screen, as well as the dock. The only work around is to open the browser in full screen and then hit full screen when watching the video. This was never the case before on Yosemite or other OS X versions....
    Thanks!

  • Watching video on safari

trying to watch a news video clip from cnn.com.
I just finished downloading my OS, reinstalling programs (all day event), and so forth.
I've downloaded the latest windows media player. Yet, the video clip from cnn won't play, stating I need the latest windows media player. I have downloaded media player 9.0, opened it, expanded it, etc. I even have it open and running, yet the same error message is being displayed. What do I need to do to safari (if anything) so that I can play video clips from a web site? Is there a plug in for safari maybe?
    thx

    Hi,
I have downloaded media player 9.0, opened it, expanded it, etc. I even have it open and running, yet the same error message is being displayed.
    What's the error message?

  • Why can't I watch videos in Safari anymore?

Whenever I attempt to watch a Safari video (not Flash, though), the screen opens to a page of symbols. I used to be able to watch these Safari videos, but suddenly, I cannot. After I see the symbols, it usually closes and I return to the "Home" screen. Any help please?

If not flash, what format are these videos? Care to list a link to one as an example?
