Water damage and macbook pro

A glass of water was spilled on my MacBook Pro. I can not afford to have it repaired and it's not covered by Apple Care.
Any idea's on how to repair?

NOTE:  If you  purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.

  • How to handle water damage to MacBook Pro?

I have not seen the computer as my son is away, but he spilt "a small amount of water" on his MacBook Pro.
The next day some of the keys were not working.
The day after that it will not power up.
I guess water has got into the circuit board and it is now too late to do anything but take to an Apple Store and either replace the circuit board or junk the computer.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • What are signs of water damage to macbook pro?

Man this is embarassing... the one day I decide to open my window is the one day there's torrential rain here haha good thing my mb pro was generally out of direct contact with the incoming rain
Question is, I came home and there were signs of very very VERY little water on my desk and around my mb pro, probably around a couple of drops but you could tell it was from the rain and may have entered through the screen window behind it. There were a couple of drops next to my mb pro, and when I opened it, the screen had very very little water on it, just on the outer edges of the screen and near the trackpad, but I want to know if this water entered in any way. The computer works perfectly fine so far, I used disk utility to verify the disk and it says everything is good.
are there any other checks I can do to see if water touched it at all, because I have my doubts that the rain actually came into contact and it may just be humidity, but I would still like to know if in the future potential unseen damage from now will affect it later.
And I know water damage voids my warranty. I just want to know if there are any signs that it's even received water damage?
         -charges fine
         -screen's fine
-everything runs as smooth as before
-no signs that I can think of that mb pro suffered water damage

    Liquid Spill
If you believe you’ve spilled anything (water, soda, trendy energy drink, etc.) on your Apple notebook, shut it down immediately, lest you continue short-circuiting your computer and thus blasting small holes through its components. Just because your computer works for a while after you’ve spilled liquid on it doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. Damage from liquid spills start out small and difficult to diagnose, and then over time spreads to become larger functional issues.
The best thing to do in this case is to take your Mac to an Apple-authorized service center.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!  But if you are feeling handy and are OK with voiding your AppleCare warranty (AppleCare does not cover accidental damage), you can clean your computer yourself. Unplug it, open it up, and disconnect the battery and all connections to the logic board. Then sit the open computer by a fan while gently scrubbing all sections of the logic board with cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol. Clean both the top and bottom of the logic board if possible, then let the exposed MacBook dry in the path of the fan overnight before piecing everything back together and turning the computer back on. With any luck, the crisis will be over.  http://www.macworld.com/article/2030013/advice-from-an-apple-tech-three-common-m ac-fixes.html

  • Light water damage to MacBook pro

Hello. While I was in the hospital using my MacBook pro early 2008 15 inch I spilled a small amount of water on the keys. Iturned it off and took out the battery Ns turned it upside down and when I got home took the keyboard off and used a hairdrier forabout 5 minutes on the area. Now every key but the a key works. Does anyone have any ideas on what it would cost foe this
Kind of repair? Just the a key isn't working everything else is fine.
    Thanks in advance

You were right to turn the Mac off immediately and remove the battery and turn it over. However, it is better not to use a hairdryer--remember the keys and a lot of other things are plastic and the heat could do some damage. It is better to just use a fan.
If this just happened recently, I would turn it back off and remove the battery and turn it upside down again, maybe over a towel. I would advise letting it dry for several days, as you don't want even one drop of water trickling down to the logic board. You want to be sure that all of the water has evaporated before turning it on again.
Fortunately, water is one of the more innocuous things that could have been spilled. Once it has completely evaporated, everything should be OK. It may be that after a few days of drying, the letter "A" may even work again.
Do you have the keyboard where the keycaps pop off, and do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, make an appointment at the genius bar and have them take a look. They should be able to pop off the keycap and have a look for free.
    Good luck!

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • My sister spoiled water into my macbook pro and the power went off in two seconds. I took off the cover and dried the water with tissues. Still it doesnt work. What do i do?

Do you mean when the water was spilled on it, it shut down?  That would indicate a major internal short occured.
Really, I'd say you need to take it into Apple or an Apple authorized repair center and get it looked at.  Odds are you've got a significantly damaged device that will require professional repair and parts replacement to get working again.

  • Spilt water on my macbook pro late 2010- turns on normally and charges just the keyboard is broken?

    Hello everyone,
I had an absolute shocker and spilt some water on my macbook pro late 2010 addition.
However the laptop itself turns on fine, charges normally and the trackpad works just the keyboard itself unfortunately doesn't want to work.. Occasionally a few keys will work, but thats about it.
I basically want to get rid of it as I have recently purchased a new mac.
Could someone possibly lead me in the right direction as to where to sell my laptop and for how much it'll go for? Or would it be a better option to get the laptop repaired and then sell it on? Either way I'm not actually bothered as long as I get a reasonable sum for the laptop.
    Thank you very much,
    Paris

Damaged, it is not worth much to people as the cost of repair may be too much.    You can try http://www.gazelle.com/

  • Just dropped water in my macbook pro, what to do?

I just dropped water in my macbook pro, what do I have to do in this case? Thanks!

aline.thiel -  Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3053 - MacBook Pro: How to remove or install the battery  If you cannot remove the battery then I humbly apologize for providing you information which could have caused you emotional distress when you looked up how to remove the battery and could not  find out how to do it without posting back here and asking how.  I was just taking the prudent course in trying to provide you with a way to minimize risk as fast as possible by providing a complete list of options that might be open to you given the information you initially provided us,  To avoid this in the future it helps to include full information about your MBP model when asking a question since as you can see the features of different models vary. If you can remove the battery then you should do so to remove any possibility of circuits getting powered on which could result in a short circuit and components on your computer being permanently damaged.
Note the above article does say, "For issues with MacBook Pro models that have built-in (non-removable) batteries, you should work with an Authorized Apple Service provider or an Apple Retail Store. "  This might include a wet computer.  I will hope my colleague on this forum does not object to my posting that recommendation since you have not yet told us whether or not you cannot remove the battery and if you can then I have again provided you with excessive information.

I just spilled water on my macbook pro? What should I do?

    Hi j,
Shut it down, unplug it, and if it has a removable battery, remove it. After that, it becomes controversial. If possible, I believe in removing bottom cover and keyboard, then dabbing up any water that may have reached the "innards." After that, you can leave it open and point a fan at it for two days or so. Another option is to carefully position it in a bag of uncooked rice (so no rice will get inside it) and seal the bag, so the rice can absorb the water. Some people will tell you not to mess with it at all, just bring it to an Apple Store.

  • Photostream not working on iPhone 4, but works on iPad and macbook pro

    Hi there,
I've read in the community there have been similiar problems with photostream, and been going trough various answers. None have been helpful unfortunately.
I have photostream working on my iPad 2 (via 3G) and Macbook Pro. But can't get it to work on my iPhone 4 (also on 3G).
Anyone who have had the same problem who can help me here?
    Regards, e.
ps. Read that photostream works only on WI-Fi... but how come it works on my iPad via 3G in that case? And I connect my macbook online via internet tethering trough my iPhone.

    Hello Matt,
It sounds like you are not able to access iTunes from your iPhone 4 using Home Sharing, but you can from your iPad.  I found an article with steps that I think would help with this issue.
I recommend reviewing the full article below, but I think steps 4-7 are specifically useful for what you described:

  • Everything is updated!!  iPhone, iPad, iTunes and MacBook Pro...  All I am trying to do is drag content from my iTunes Library to the devices.  iTunes gets stuck EVERY single time!  What usually triggers the Non-Sense is when I am adding a 2nd file!

Everything is updated!!  iPhone, iPad, iTunes and MacBook Pro...  All I am trying to do is drag content from my iTunes Library to the devices.  iTunes gets stuck EVERY single time!  What usually triggers the Non-Sense is when I am adding a 2nd file!
    Why does iTunes SUCK??
    1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
    2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!
...and If I am tell me how to fix it!
    Very appreciated,
    Joe

    Thanx in advance.

I agree anti-relay can be using UBE feature. However, there is serious problem in reject the spam mail. My nms is using UBE feature to stop spam mail. According to the work flow of the UBE, the mail is received by nms completely and UBE is going to invesgate the mail address. Although UBE can stop the spam mail, the spam mail have a trouble in returning the mail to the sender. The reason is the sender address is usually not existed in the world. That will cause a lot of mail waiting in the mail queue.
In my experience, do not use UBE for anti-relay.
