Water Damage?!?! PLZ HELP!!!

I need serious help. I spilt a cup of water and some of the water got into the back of the laptop (the fans) It shut off immediately I tried to turn it back on and it wouldnt. I dried it out shook it out and everything. Now when I press the power button the sleep/wake button stays lit and the screen blinks once (white) how it would normally but after that it stays black. Any advice here? What should I do?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

About water and electronics:
As most people know, water and electronics don't mix. Whether it means dropping a cellphone in the lake, or spilling water on your laptop. When you get water on something, it will short circuit everything that has battery power. The best thing to do when something gets wet, is to take out the battery immediately and take it off charge. Then you have to wait about a week (the longer, the better), and then wish for luck and turn it on. If done correctly, it will almost always work again.
Once, I dropped my cell phone in the lake. I didn't notice it for about a minute. When I did, I dove down there and got it, took the battery out and let it dry. About a week later, it was running like nothing happened.
The key is to disconnect all power right away.
Unfortunately, in your case, you plugged it in, so a lot of damage has probably been done already, and is probably going to cost a lot of money.

Yeah, I was stupid enough not to check my jean pockets before throwing them in the washing machine. Now it's water damaged, and there's some water in the screen.
Is there a way I can revive it? My friends have had the same kind of damage, and they said that they had left their ipod collecting dust for a month or two before it started working again. Does it need to dry? Can I pry it open and make it dry faster? Is there a way I can send it in to get it checked out or replaced?
One more thing, I attpemted to pry it open, knowing that there are 3 metal pins on each side of the ipod instead of the dock end, is there a guide out there or video that can help me do this if I have to resort to this? I'm honestly trying to make this thing work, because I don't have enough money to buy another one. And I wont for a long while, considering that I'm turning 16 in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking for a job.

I shouldn't start trying to open it up - they're not designed for that and you might have a lot of difficulty getting it together again.
If you leave it for long enough in a warm-ish environment there is a fighting chance it will dry out and be OK. I should give it at least a week. I shouldn't take a hair-dryer to it

  • Water damage- no help with this. made to feel like a criminal.

i recently (and stupidly) dropped my new iphone 3gs into the toilet bowl.(it was clean) i retreived in a second and dried it as fast as i could. i have now found that it still works apart from the camera which wont open the shutter. when i phoned apple for some advice all i got was "do you want to book a repair it will be 199 euros". if i cracked a light on my car i dont think my garage would say the same thing as they would probably go out of business. and before you say it i didnt take out the insurance as vodafone wanted 12.99 a month which is almost as much as i pay for my house insurance! i was in the proccess of looking for some cheaper options when the accident happened. seems that i`m in a bit of a quandry with this one. wish i`d of just bought the n900.

I assume you are in Europe since the replacement price was in Euros. Actually its a pretty good deal. Apple used to not offer any deals on water damaged phones. Then, I think about a year ago they changed their minds and offered a new phone at the regular pricing.
In the US, before this change, I think the replacement cost was $499 and now it's $199.
If you don't want to pay, you might try drying out your IP a while longer. Put it in a bag with several of those "moisture bags". I had a different kind of phone that got soaked and this worked although the phone didn't recover all features. The feature missing was the ability to turn it off.
If you do a search here, you will find you're not the only one to have dropped one in the toilet. I assume NO call is worth dragging my IP out of my pocket when I'm around a toilet, sink or any other kind of water.
If all you're missing is the camera function, I would say consider yourself lucky.

  • Recent water damage, please help...

I recently dropped my ipod touch into water and now am trying desperately to find a way to get it to work. I let it sit in rice for about a day, but here is what's going on. When I press the home button a screen comes up with a pic of a USB cord and itunes at the end. When I connect it to my comp, itunes starts up and requires me to put in my passcode on my ipod to continue. I have no way of doing so. I cannot turn off my ipod either. I can tell how much battery life is left on it though. If anyone can think of a way to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • IPhone 4 Water Damage NEED HELP URGENTLY.

I dropped my phone in the toliet yesterday (I know, I'm not that smart... >.>) and I pulled it out as quickly as I could and dried it off with a towel.  At first, it didn't work that well, but after an hour or so it started to work fine, so I assummed it was okay.  When I tried to charge it, it would charge for a second or two, and then it would tell me that it didn't work with the charger.  Eventually, it wouldn't do anything when I plugged it in.  I tried plugging it into several outlets and my laptop and nothing worked.  I turned it off for the night, and this morning when I turned it on it was still working fine but it wouldn't charge.  It died, and whenever I try to turn it on it gives me the regular image that it does when there's no battery.  I keep trying to plug it in.  I can't pay for it to be fixed, and I need it to be fixed quickly.  I can't do the thing with the bag of rice because I need it fixed by tomorrow night.  I need a simple, quick way to fix it that doesn't cost anything and that I can do by myself (this is kind of secretive - long story).  I also cannot remove my case.  Please help.

There's no way that you can fix the issue. The components that charge the phone in the 30 pin dock are most likely fried, so the phone needs to be replaced. You could try to have it fixed at a place that repairs iphones, but i can't think of anything that you can do yourself to fix it

  • IPhone 4 water damage - please help!

My iPhone 4S was dropped in a toilet with just toilet water for about a minute or less, it went completely black - I didn't have to turn it off. Now it is not turning on. It has been sitting in rice for about 8 hours. What do you think?

I think you would have been better off not trying to turn on the phone again for at least a few more days.  It's most certainly fried now.  But don't beat yourself up, even with putting the phone in dry rice or a dessicant for days, the chance of the phone working again are still negligible.  Not zero, but I doubt even in the double digits.
In any case, you can bring your phone, and $199 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement.
    Best,

  • If there is significant water damage, is it worth it to pay to get it fixed?

i split wine on my keyboard of my Macbook and it won't even turn on. is it worth it to pay the large amount to get fixed, if fixable, or to just buy a new computer? Does apple do anything for water damage? help.

You can take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked and get an estimate of the cost.
Then you can take a decision.
If the computer is 3 to 4 years old, it is better to buy a new one.
    Best.

  • Water damage iphone 5 plz help

i have a iphone 5 and it has water damage. whats it going to coast me to replace it? ive seen people say 300 and some say 150. either one do they put it on your bill or do you have to pay up front? also how long before you get another phone because i have no phone at the time cause of this.

        Hey ozzy1984!
Sorry to learn of the fate of your iPhone 5! That's a real bummer. I'm sure I can answer your questions. The cost for a replacement really depends on if you have insurance on it. If so, there is a deductible cost of $169.00. If you do have insurance, the just call 888-881-2622 or visit phoneclaim.com/verizon
If you choose to purchase a new phone, it depends on which one you get (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) Here's a link with the info: vzw.com/iphone
You also have an option of purchasing a replacement from a friend or family member, or a third party. From these sources, the cost can vary.
I hope this information is helpful,

  • Please help!! Computer dummy + water damage

I know this is a very common, probably annoying, question asked in Apple forums but I can't find a recently updated discussion page to post this on. My Google searches aren't really coming up with a specific answer, just pages of forums from 2005-2008. I didn't see any with recent dates, and I really need someone to give advice asap. I am in graduate school and desperately need to get my computer running again or at the VERY least find out if the hard drive is still functional so I can access my important files and transfer them to a new computer.
My Macbook was sitting on my bed, closed and unplugged. I am normally very careful with my Macbook, and I thought my Nalgene water bottle was tightly closed (it wasn't) and a safe distance from my laptop (wrong again). Since water bottles don't fly, I assume my cat knocked my water bottle off the bedside table and onto the bed....more specifically, onto my Macbook. I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when this occurred. I came out of the bathroom to find a large puddle on the bed and an empty water bottle nearby. And just my luck, the Macbook was right in the middle of the puddle. It was about 15 ounces of water. The area surrounding the computer was soaked through the bedspread, all the way down to the sheets. I'm guessing the water was on the laptop for about 3-5 minutes while I was out of the room.
Here is what I did upon finding this disaster:
    1) I immediately moved the Macbook to a dry area, and used a dry towel to blot up what I thought was all of the water. Some water had even gotten to the keyboard/screen, even though the laptop was closed.
    2) I was not thinking straight and I know nothing about internal workings of laptops, so I performed the panicky knee-jerk reaction.... "ok, I got most of the water, I should check see if it still works" and tried to turn it on. I realize now that was a dumb move, and I am very angry with myself. But anyway, it began to start up normally, but right after making the Apple noise that it usually makes upon restarting, it faded to a blue screen with the apple logo for a second, then went black. I know this is bad, but I didn't heard any abnormal noises like something was being fried, it just shut off.
    3) I removed the plastic Incase protective shell. Note to self: it is not watertight. Some water was trapped underneath the shell, but I didn't realize how much had gone inside the computer yet.
    4) I dried off the top and bottom of the laptop
    5) I removed the battery. Water came dripping out. Sad times.
    6) With another dry towel, I blotted everywhere I could to soak up as much water as possible, and placed the laptop on a towel on a desk in an upside down V shape. The battery is next to it.
This all happened at 11pm on 2/2/2010. The Macbook has been sitting in the same position ever since, in a low-humidity room with an overhead fan. I do not have Apple Care but I know water damage isn't covered anyway. I've also read that Apple charges anywhere from $700-900 to repair water damage, so I might as well buy a new laptop if this damage is irreparable. Given my situation, my questions are:
    1) How much longer should I wait before trying to turn it back on? It has been almost 48 hours.
    2) Can anyone give me any advice (other than "be more careful next time") for what to do next? Does putting the laptop in a sealed box full of rice really help get the moisture out? How about a hair dryer?
    3) Should I follow the instructions on ifixit.com to take the computer apart to allow for more evaporation? Because if it is strongly recommended that I do this, I can have my fiance (who is very good with computers) do it for me....but I am very worried that taking it apart will damage it even further.
    3) If all else fails and the logic board is fried, can I still remove the hard drive and get my files off of it?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

hey, sorry to hear about your computer.
i'll try to answer your questions, so here goes:
    1. you could try again to turn on the computer, but the only issue is that the parts of the computer are already fried and might not work. you could try though, it can't hurt to try. also, when doing this listen for beeps coming from the computer. if that happens, i can send a list of beep codes that might narrow down what might have been damaged.
    2. i have heard that rice does work since it absorbs a lot of moisture. i've never (thankfully) had to try it before, but other people says it works fine. you might try that before turning on the computer again. it'll just get rid of the excess moisture.
    3. taking apart the computer won't damage it if done correctly. ifixit is a good place to go for that kind of stuff. just know that if something does break, you'll be charged for a replacement part (though it looks like you'll have to pay for some replacements anyway). this might work for drying out, but i'd stick with the rice to be safe, just because it doesn't involve disassembling the computer.
    4. if your logic board is fried, you can possibly recover the data from the hard drive. the only possibility is that water entered the drive, rendering it useless. if you are going to attempt to salvage the hard drive, you'll need another laptop to put it in or get a drive reader. it plugs into another computer and reads the drive through the Disk Utility. i'm not quite sure where to get those, but i'm sure you can find on on Newegg.com or some reputable computer parts store.
i'm not totally sure how much apple charges for water damage repairs, but it's worth going to a store and they can see whats wrong and come up with an estimate and then decide whether to get a new macbook or to forgo the cost of repairs.
i'm really sorry to hear about your macbook, but i really hope something can be done. write back if you need more help.

my i phone 4 is water damaged and it is working but network not shown so please help me

A replacement iPhone is usually a refurbished iPhone that has received new battery and case and repair of anything that may have been faulty.  The refurbished iPhone is indistinguishable from a new iPhone.  A number of the regulars on here prefer the refurbished Aplle products because they have been so thoroughly tested.
A replacement iPhone is identical to the original, same color, capacity, and so on.

Installing the appropriate combo update may help...
If you are running v10..7 Lion, install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
For 10.6 Snow Leopard >  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then restart your Mac. Try the App Store.
If that doesn't help, try the following..
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading Mountain Lion.
You may also need to disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall

    Hello Breejumpp,
Try Reset ( No Data will be lost )
Press and Hold the On/Off switch (On top your iPhone) and the Home Button (Button at the bottom of your iPhone screen). Hold both the keys simultaneously for atleast 10 to 15 seconds and you should see an Apple Logo coming up on your screen, once you see the Apple logo you can then release oth On/Off switch and Home button and wait for your iPhone's Home screen.

Take it to an authorized service center or Apple Store in the country where the phone originated.  Apple does not sell iPhones in Pakistan, nor will they ship them to Pakistan.
