Water damage to iphone?

my iphone fell into a hot bath???..will it work again??

niamhjd,
I am writing this post hoping that it will help you and anyone else who searches the Web wanting advice for a water-damaged iPhone. Bottom line: Our water-damaged 3GS doesn't work, but we were able to salvage our photos!
My wife had a similar issue - her iPhone 3GS was dunked into salt water and wouldn't respond to any buttons. We dried off the exterior and left it in a warm car to dry it off. I later read that you can speed up the drying process by putting it into a bag of rice or silica gel packs, but don't overheat it. Anyway, after a few days we took it to the Apple store, where a "genius" told us there was nothing we could do to repair it.
We explained that we wanted to recover photos from the trip we were on, and he said it might be possible by executing a procedure that involves removing the memory chip from the motherboard and soldering it to a new circuit. But it would be extremely expensive. So we took it home, resolved to upgrading to a 4S when they became available.
Believing that we could do no more harm, she plugged it into the power adapter and was surprised to see a faint Apple logo on the screen - barely visible, but in the same spot where one appears during boot-up.
After charging the phone for about a day, it still wouldn't respond to the lock button. So I figured, there's nothing to lose by plugging it into my Mac desktop. I was surprised when iPhoto launched as usual, and shocked when the iPhone appeared in the Sources pane. It read all the stored photos, and let me download all of them except one movie. It even launched iTunes and stepped through the sync process: backup, download purchased apps, updated apps, syncing files, etc. It seemed to balk, though, when I tried to access app data.
It may be that ours was not a typical outcome - that we could just as easily have fried whatever undamaged circuits were left by plugging it into the charger and the desktop. So my advice to anyone who reads this and wants to recover their photos, books, apps, etc is to research the Web for ways to minimize water damage; try to dry the phone out as thoroughly as possible; try to power up gently; and if all else fails, try syncing to your desktop.  Good luck!

does applecare+  cover water damage for iphone 4s?

Yes it seems so as the description says for up to 2 "incidents." Each incident is $49. More info here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/S4575?mco=MjU5MTk4MjQ
Im still sorta thinking about it myself. You'd be basically spending $150 for incident #1 and $50 for incident #2, but during the next 2 years only.

  • I water damaged my iPhone and want to get my photos back. My iPhone was ios7 but my icloud synced to my work ipad on ios8. Is it now impossible to view any data from ios7 on icloud drive? Any help to get my photos back please!

I damaged my iphone 5s and want to get my photos back. It was submerged in water for a good five minutes (and is now in rice) but I'm pretty sure it's dead.
I really would like to get my photos back. I wasn't plugging in my iphone and backing up, I just assumed it did it automatically because about a week ago I had a message saying automatic backups were stopping as my icloud was full.
My work ipad is running on ios8 (as of a few days ago!) but my iphone was on ios7 as I didnt have enough space to install the update. This means that my icloud is now icloud drive and I cannot view the stuff from my ios7 device without upgrading it to ios8. Trouble is, I cant upgrade it because it's in a rice bowl.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Any idea if I will be able to access my photos on icloud at all? I'm not very hopeful for my phone working again and downloading things that way!
    Thanks!

Photos that are in the cloud stay there until they are removed by a device that has the right privileges. If your iPad is logged in with the same AppleID, then doesn't it show the photos from iCloud?
You will only be on iCloud Drive if you expressly chose to upgrade.

  • HT3302 water damage to iPhone 4S

My iPhone has water damage to it and I know that apple do not cover water damage in their warranty but I've only had it a month and it cost me £499! It took me ages to save up for it and now it's ruined. what can I do?

    tonefox,
Your response is about as helpful as a mechanic in a car accident repair body shop giving you a lecture on how to drive.  Thanks for that!
    everyone else,
My wife's friend had her iPhone 4 helpfully placed into the toilet by her 14-month old boy.  Delightful.  She went into the Apple Store in Leicester and the replaced her phone with a working one (I think it was brand new, but might have been refurbished) for £119.  On Saturday, our 14-month old boy managed to do the same.  Oh dear, they get everywhere, these young explorers, just when you're least expecting them to (tonefox, you need to add 'don't have kids' to your simple rules...)
We tried the sealed tupperware container with rice (and a dehumidifier box) in the airing cupboard trick.  No luck!  We're thinking about buying a stock of silica gel for next time we are terminally distracted and fail to follow the 'simple rules' (funny old thing, you just can't get hold of silica gel on a long bank holiday weekend!).
We do have quite decent insurance with our bank account, but the trouble is, they have just upped the excess to £100 for iPhones, whilst still £50 for all other phones!  To my mind, it's worth the other £19 to not have to do all the phone calls and paperwork, and, most importantly, not to wait for a week or two to get it fixed and returned.
I will be going to the nearest Apple Store to do the same as my wife's friend tomorrow.  I'm expecting to pay £119 for a replacement.  I am led to believe that this is now policy with Apple, but have not managed to find it anywhere yet.  I'll let you know how it goes.

  • SLIGHT water damage, displays iPhone temperature message

My iPhone 4S experienced slight water damage because a few of my (idiot) friends decided to throw it around in a pool. It had a LifeProof, so it was okay until the charger port came undone. It was alright at first, until I assume that (because I'd cracked my back glass a year ago) water seeped into the back. Right now, after charging it to a full charge, it works most times you hit the home button. The screen is responsive, but I can't access anything because it displays a message saying my iPhone is overheating. Is there anything I can do to save it?

I'm afraid you'll have to get it serviced, Apple will probably offer you the Out-Of-Warranty service. If you pay the service fee, your device will be replaced with a new phone.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

  • Selling my water-damaged 2G iPhone

Here's my question for anyone that might have the expertise:
It was responding for a couple of days, but the touch-screen would not work. So I restored it, but before the back-up could be installed it died altogether. My question is whether or not there is any data left. Wiping it through settings is no longer an option. Should I be worried about anything being left behind? Nothing critical was on it to begin with. Email passwords can be changed easily.
    Thanks for any respones!

I, too, am selling a water damaged iphone. Before I purchased a new phone, I neglected to erase the content on the old phone, which was still capable of being synced. I activated the new phone prior to realizing that I should erase the old one. Now when I try to sync the old phone, Itunes asks me if I want to start a new phone number or am I replacing an old number. Obviously I don't want to do either. Any ideas on how I can sync the old phone without paying another activation fee?

  • Water damage to iPhone 6

Sorry for the 'iPhone in the toilet' question however i'm not sure what to do.
I have done the requisite, rice in the cupboard trick so will see what happens, but just wanted to know what my options are if the phone is dead.
I purchased the phone at the end of March - bought outright and unlocked from Apple. If the phone doesn't work, should I take it into my local shop and explain what happened and see what they suggest? Will I just have to buy a brand new one or are there other options available to me?
    Many thanks
    Sarah

Sorry, but since water damage is not covered by the warranty, you'll have to pay the reduced price for a new iPhone, called the Out-of-Warranty-Service fee.

Some damage isn’t eligible at all, for example if your device has been broken into multiple pieces. See Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions for complete details.

  • Slight water damage to iphone 6

hey! So today my phone had gotten some water on it. I dried it off and shook the phone carefully to get rid of water. Well now when people call me i can only answer their calls and speak to them on speaker phone. Also if my phone is on ringer mode it doesnt ring nor do my buttons click like usually. When i adjust volume on the side of my phone it says im adjusting the headphone volume? :-| super upset with myself. I dont have insurance for the phone. Does this mean i have to go buy a whole new phone??
    Thank you!!

You can check with Apple, they used to have a replacement program for out of warranty phones. It will be cheaper than buying new. They may be able to repair the phone but usually not water damage, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

  • Water damage to iphone 4

iphone 4 fell in water.  got it out.  put it in rice overnight.  when i woke up, itunes said it found the iphone but it needed to be reset.  its making "noises" but still can't turn it on.  don't want to touch anything!  what do i do now?:)

Put it back in the rice and leave it for two or three days at least. Then if the problem still persists, you probably have a damaged iPhone and will need to take or send it to Apple for replacement.
    Regards.

  • Water damage on iPhone? Can it be saved?

I left my iphone in my bathroom near the shower by a window and I discovered that there was water on the inside of the screen, and then the screen didn't respond to my touch for a little bit and then it eventually did..and there was still water on the inside of the screen but i was sort of in a rush to call someone, and it had 3% remaining and i plugged it in a wall charger. It worked fine with the charger for about 15 minutes, and then the screen suddenly turned black and it turned itself off. I panicked and then tried turning it back on again but then it just showed the apple logo and turned itself off and wont come back on again. What damage have I done to my phone? Did I fry the logic board or something? I'm really hoping it could still be revived.
I've since submerged the phone in a bag of rice. But I'm hoping that I didn't completely fry it. I now realize that i act very stupidly and carelessly in dire situations haha.
    Please help!

Now that i think about it, do you think that it's just the screen itself that's messed up?
Because my phone wasn't completely submerged in water, it was in a steamy bathroom and there was just water markings underneath the screen that made the touchscreen unresponsive for a while.
But then I charged it. Which could have heated and fried the inside entirely.
    I really don't know how.
But thank you for the answers!

  • Does warranty cover water damage on iPhone 5?

I drop my iPhone in a lake still have warranty but I'm wonder if apple would be able to fix it or I have to go truth insurance ?

Apple is a manufactor, not an insurance or carrier. Apple's one year limited warranty covers hardware, not accidental damage. Look at it like this... say you purchase a new mustang car... you don't purchase insurance and you wreck the car into water... do you expect Ford, the maker of the car, to either fix your car or replace it? No, that would be silly... but people expect Apple to... not you... in general people do expect this and get angry when apple dont cover this. Apple is not insurance... insurance is bought through the carrier and that is where accidental damage is covered.

  • Apple service and water damage with iPhone 5C

My daughter has an iPhone 5C that was dropped in the water briefly. It started to have problem, so we tried a cleaning service ($35). They were not able to fix it, and they replied as follows:
Repair Shop: hello, no luck with the phone, i have another
service where if you take off the i cloud account from the phone, i can set up
a apple repair for you and they will replace your phone for free. the service
cost 100-35= $65 and i will set up everything for you. All i would ned is your
apple id and password to set it up for you, thanks
Me: I don't understand why you would need to remove
the iCloud service from the phone. Can you explain? Is it the official Apple
Repair? Why can I not do it myself?
Repair Shop: It is an official apple repair and I would need
    it to set up repair
The sounds pretty dubious. Is there any truth to it and/or what are my options for repair/replacement from Apple.
    Thanks,
    -Mat

Yeah, that's either a stupid repair shop or a scam.  You can remove a device from Activation Lock by going to www.icloud.com and logging yourself.
However, depending on what this repair shop did, you may have no options with Apple anymore.  Did they open up the device at all?

  • Water damage to iPhone 5c

Is there an easy way to dry a 5c out after getting wet? Yesterday my 5c got knocked into the swimming pool (not good). After getting it out of the water i shook the water out of it best as I could then left sit to dry. Sat all day. tried that evening and nothing. Thought battery might be dead so I plugged into charger. Light began to flash and display started to light up,but not for long after I unplugged it. Someone suggested covering it overnight with rice. Did that, now when I plug charger in display lights up with apple logo for a few seconds then goes off then comes back on again. Hopefully after it dries some more it might work,I hope. If not can it be repaired and how much.

It is unlikely anything you do will fix it although try a bag of rice for at least 7 days and when that makes no difference take it to an Apple Store genius bar and they will exchange it for $269 if in US .
You cannot "repair" a drowned iPhone

  • Water damage to iphone screen not working

I need to back up to icloud, but my touch screen not working.  Siri is working, i can text. Is there any other way to backup contacts to icloud without touch screen?

UUsually when a phone gets wet you put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 5 to 7 days, but that doesn't guarantee that it will work.
you can get an out of warrant iPhone at the Apple store.
