Water damaged iPhone4, 1600 error

i have a water damaged iphone, put it in the rice for three days. plugged it into the computer. the computer recognized it. said it was in recovery mode. tried to restore it. every time i try to restore it a 1600 error comes up. is this phone ruined? nothing comes up on the screen of the phone. any insight would be great.

sounds like your phone is fried, and that you've tried all the recommended troubleshooting steps.
Other than purchasing a new phone, your other option is to go to an Apple store and purchase an out of warranty exchange for USD 199.00.

can data be recovered from a water damaged iphone 4?

The phone was place on a table that had water on it. Hours later I picked it up and the phone wasn't on. I didn't know it was sitting in water. So I turned it on and it went kind of haywire for a while. Wouldn't turn on or off, just kept blinking with the apple logo on and off. Then it went off and won't go on at all. I am worried that it got fried. I am only interested in salvaging photos and some contact info. And yes I know, I should have had it syncd with iCloud but never did. My new iPhone 5 is.  Thanks.

  • How to fix water damaged iphone4

Hey guys, my brother by mistake got into the pool with my iphone4, so when we realized, we quickly got the phone out  and tried to dry it...
By then we were in the hotel and we didn't have rice, so my friend told me to wrap it in paper towel and try to turn it on later...so we tried it and it still doesn't work..so when I got home from the hotel I put in rice....then I tried to turn it on later it still didn't turn on but when plugged into the charger to charge and u press the sleep wake button to turn on, it turns on but then gets stuck on the apple logo and then after some time it goes blank...
PLEASE HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, AND I DON'T HAVE A WARRANTY ..so after that happens my uncle then guesses it's the battery problem, so he tries another battery but only turns on when u plug it in to charge but still gets stuck on the apple logo..PLEASE HELP ME
PS. MY BATTERY WAS NOT LOW WHEN THE PHONE GOT IN WATER, it was in an okay percent

Exactly what is wrong - cannot say, but some things that do go wrong with water dunking - battery shorts out and dies, powering on while wet can short logic board components, including the solid state storage, the touch screen is damaged to the point of not working.  There have been cases where users have placed the iPhone in a bag of dry, uncooked rice for a week to ten days and let the rice absorb the water.  But, any attempt to power the unit before it is completely dry almost always causes damage to the circuitry.
Opening the iPhone and replacing the battery is absolutely forbidden by Apple...that is an immediate loss of all support from the Apple store genius bar and Apple support centers.

  • Water damaged iPhone - Ultrasonic cleaning?

Hi, I have managed to kill my 16GB iPhone G3, it might be smart but unfortunately it can't swim. I have emailed a few repair companies. ipaqrepair.co.uk has offered me free diagnostic and said they can repair some water damaged units using an ultra sonic bath.
Does anyone know if ultrasonic cleaning could possibly repair my phone? Anyone have any experience of using this company.
Any advise on this matter would be much appreciated, I love my iPhone and am totally gutted, I kept it in a bag of rice for about 4 days to dry it out, it won't respond at all, when I plug it into my computer it detects it but gives an error message.
    Thanks, Nev

Ultrasonic cleaning of iPhone components in DI water and alcohol might remove some corrosion and contamination, which theoretically could solve your problems, but it will certainly not repair any shorts or other electrical issues. If they will attempt to clean it and only charge you if it works, it might be worth a try. Doesn't sound like you've got much too lose since it sounds like it's a brick now. Another option is to take it apart yourself and attempt to clean it, perhaps with alcohol and/or a spray electrical cleaner.

  • Can I get pictures off of an iPhone 5 with water damage?

So my wife recently dropped her iPhone 5 in the toilet... And I believe she tried to power it on after she got it out and dried it off, which I know is a big no no. So I tried the bag of rice trick. That didn't seem to do too much. When I plug it in to my MacBook Pro, iTunes will recognize it, and say that it is in recovery mode, and that it needs to be restored in order to continue. I said **** with it and tried to restore, but I get error message 2001. I know I can get at least a little money for it from places like Gazelle, etc. even if it is water damaged, and I have already ordered the 5s with an upgrade we had on our plan, so I'm not too concerned about having it repaired; although if I could restore it, I could get a little more money. So I have 2 questions.
    1. Is there anyway I can get the pictures off of the iPhone without paying $230 to have it repaired.
    2. What does error message 2001 mean? And is there anyway to restore it at this point?

I the device will not power on without going into recovery mode then the pictures would not be restorable even with a repair.
Try Resetting the device ( Power button + home butto till you see the apple).
Error 2001: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694?viewlocale=en_US will help with this if at all possible. However if you restore the pictures will be erased.
Your best bet is to look in iTunes for a backup ( Edit>preference>devices you will see all the device backups on the computer here) or in the iCloud once you sign into her Apple id on the new device.

  • Water Damage and Powering On

My wife dropped her iPhone into water today.  She got it out instantly.  We could tell it had some issues, as music coming out of speaker sounded bad.  We were on our way out of town, so we grabbed a bowl and rice and brought it with us.  She wrapped it in the paper towels and put in the rice.  45 minutes later the noise issue was gone, but it kept registering screen presses.  So, we put it back in the rice, and left it in there for a few hours.  After watching a movie, we checked it again, and the phone would not turn back on.  We got home and plugged it into a wall charger.  About 20 minutes has passed, and still nothing.  I thought maybe it somehow got set to DFU mode as the screen would stay blank, so I plugged it into our MacBook.  Still nothing, no error in iTunes, no power at all.  I thought it was odd that 2 hours after being dropped, some problems would clear up like the garbled speakers, and some would first start, like not powering on.  Any thoughts?

When dropping the device in water it would have been best to turn it off straight away and leaving it in the rice for atleast 72 hours. This is not a guaranteed fix but its always worth a try but the fact the iPhone is not powering on confirms hardware issue due to water damage of course.
What you could do is maybe try a reset:
    - hold the home button and sleep/wake button down at the same time
    - as soon as you see the apple release both buttons
If that fails to power the device back on all you can do is either wait a bit longer to see if it needed a bit more time to dry internally but if it does not power on then you'll need to look at getting the iPhone replaced for a fee if that is something you would want.

  • IPhone5 water damage and screen smash

Yesterday I was at a theme park and I dropped my iphone5 and it was smashed all over the screen (i know i'm an idiot) but this happens frequently now so i just make do with it and eventually get a new one. Then I went on a water ride and my iphone5 somehow  became water damaged. It just says to connect to itunes but when I do it says to restore the iphone5. When I try to restore it an error occours. Is there any way I can make my iphone work again? Or do I just get a replacement? And also, I havent synced my iphone since about two weeks ago, and i've taken quite a lot of photos, I'm guessing they will be wiped from my phone as well? I'm pretty sure the speaker on my phone is broke but I just want my phone for messages, photos etc

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get it replaced. $229. You're going to lose anything that wasn't already backed up.

  • About water damage

Does apple still provide replacement for iphone4 if I dropped it into water? If it does, how much does it cost? Thanks a lot for your help... I'm really desperate...

Apple will replace a water-damaged iPhone for their standard out-of-warranty charge. See:

  • Can an ipad with water damage be repaired?

Can an ipad that has suffered water damage be repaired?  Everything seemstomwork except the wifi antenna and the sound.

UPDATE: I emailed MyiBroke not even an hour ago and have already received a response
"Jay, Thanks for pointing that out. I will make sure that the spelling errors are corrected in the morning. We really appreciate you taking the time to show us a kindness! Have a Merry Christmas
    Hayden"
Chris, we are all human and capable of making mistakes. I would much rather help resolve a problem vs attempting to drive business away from a company who is offering a much needed service. For me to get an email response with in an hour of contacting a company on the east coast who is not likely open at 2am is more than impressive in my book. When is the last time you emailed a business in the middle of the night and they responded that fast?
WARNING - Do not do business with a company that doesnt provide amazing customer service - BE AWARE!

  • Using 3g as touch, can't sync (water damage)

    Hello,
I have an old iPhone 3g that I have been letting my kid use as a touch since upgrading to the 4s.  He dropped it in the toilet.  I put it in rice and let it dry for a week.  I was able to restore it using iTunes.  It now will charge and iTunes does recognize that the iPhone is plugged in when I try to sync.  However, it gives me an error message saying that something is either wrong with the phone or it is inactive, so it won't sync.  I don't want to activate it, he just uses it for games and music.   I have been using an old sim card to try to connect.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The status of the SIM card don't even enter into it (sorry, bad monty python reference).  It just needs to have a SIM in there to complete the activation process and set up the device in iTunes for syncing and backups.
If, with the SIM in there, it still has issues, than it may be a result of the water damage, but any old SIM should allow for activation.

  • Water damage and warrantee

My iphone is getting the dreaded “charging is unsupported on this device” lock-screen with the annoying “this accessory is not made to work with the iphone” pop-up.
This was caused by a small droplet of water finding its way into my charger-port. Unfortunately the water indicator on the bottom is red.
My question is, will apple replace my phone? It technically has water damage but my phone is not totaled. In fact, my phone works just fine but the error annoys me.
Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone had apple help them? Any recommendations?

Normally anything that triggers the moisture sensor will void the warranty and you'll have to pay the charge for the replacement. Some people have reported Apple making exceptions, though, so it won't hurt to ask. But expect to be told that they will not cover the problem under warranty.
    Good luck.

  • My girlfriend's macbook pro got water damage, but her Skype seems to be active..

My girlfriend's Macbook Pro 13'  got water damage and seems to have made her computer unusable, this happened three days agol. Since then she decided to not try using her computer to avoid ruining it further. But recently her Skype has been online and is even callable sometimes. Is this an indication of good news? What does this mean?

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.
