Water danaged ipod touch

Hi can anyone tell me how much it costs to repair a water damaged ipod touch (in the uk) 2nd gen that is out of warranty....?...The ipod does nothing at all.
Thanks,
Dawn.

Done something very similar to what Jolly Giant's link led to but just a tad bit different.
My wife washed my son's iPod Touch 2nd gen just this year. We pulled a web page (cant remember it now) that said:
What you will need.
Isopropol alcohol
Dry Rice
Cup or bowl large enough so you can completely submerge your ipod.
1. DON'T TRY TO TURN ON THE iPOD!!! if the ipod is wet it will make a short circuit inside all the electronics inside the device. If you keep trying to turn it on it will fry the electronics and can burn up the device which will never work again.
2. Emerge the device into a cup, our bowl of Isopropol alcohol for about 2 or 3 hours.
3. Next emerge the ipod in a cup, or bowl of dry rice for at least 2 days.
This worked for us... My son still uses his ipod just like before.
Hope it not to late
Good luck
Dave

  • Estimate cost for water damaged iPod touch 2nd gen?

My iPod touch 2nd generation 8BG fell into water a month ago and doesn't turn on at all, sometimes a grey screen appears but thats all. Does apple still repair it and I was wondering how much it would cost, thank you.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • Water damaged ipod touch 4g ??

My ipod touch was in my bag, and 3 weeks later i forgot it was in mu bag, my mom put a water bottle (eventually it was open) and it spilled, i noriced it was spilled after 2-3 hours. It was still on and worked. The cameras were not working, the headphone jack read like it was being used, and a big water stain in my screen. I restored it and same problem. I put it in rice and its off. Should i buy a spare screen, headphone jack, and cameras or should i wait to see what happens. If they're still the same should i buy them or just buy a new ipod touch... My mom told me shell buy it for me cause i paid for it.

The refurb units used for the warranty and out-of-warranty exchanges go through the same sort of refurbishment process as the refurb units Apple sells in their online store.  The units go back to China and are factory refurbished to basically like-new condition.

  • Water damaged iPod touch success story... kinda.

So my 32 GB iPod touch 4G got wet recently. It powered off during the incident and 3 hours later, I rushed home to submerge it in an air-tight bag of rice. All of this was on a Saturday.
3 days later, Tuesday, I opened up the bag and plugged it in, and it started charging fine. Once it charged long enough to go to the lock screen, the front facing camera started fogging up, and it was a pain getting it to slide across to unlock the thing. After many failed attempts, I finally got it, and noticed the backlight was going crazy. It was flickering from low to high brighness like a strobe light, so I cut it off and placed it back in the bag for another day then opened it up Wednesday with the same results.
I eventually left it in the bag for a full 2 weeks then opened it up, and it worked like new. No problems.
Over the next couple days I noticed the battery wasn't holding up, but later saw that I'd charge it fully, then after not using it for 30 minutes or so, it would shut off completely and the only way to bring it back was to plug it to a computer. It would show the "dead battery" screen for a few minutes, then going to the lock screen it'd have a full battery.
Now when I plug it in all I see is the "dead battery" screen then the apple logo back and forth. The lock screen never comes up.
I found sites where I can replace the battery myself but I'm not sure if it's the battery anymore. And if it were a problem with anything else would sending it in to Apple solve it. I've heard all they do is replace the battery and back cover.
Thanks for your replies in advance.

The can tell by liquid indicators that the iPod was wetted. It appears that the water damaged some parts and it may be more that the battery.

  • Water damaged Ipod touch?

Hello, my ipod touch had been water damaged.
It was turned on when it came in contact with water. It was still turned on, however, it was locked and the slider won't slide. I tried turning it off. That doesn't work either. I looked online for help, and I read an article about putting it in an uncooked rice for a few days. I did this, and it is not turn on anyone. What should I do now? I've read on this site that the apple warranty doesn't cover it.

If your iPod Touch came in contact with water while it was ON and the damage that was done initially while it was ON cannot be reversed. The submersion in rice works when one needs to completely dry out the wet undamaged components internally as the rice will absorb the moisture out of the iPod Touch.
I would recommend [*_RESETTING your iPod Touch*|http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/#section2] while connected to a wall outlet and after it has been connected to a wall outlet for at least 20 minutes. If RESET does not get a response out of your iPod Touch then I am afraid your device has been water damaged and needs repair. You are right, Apple will not honor the warranty in this case.

  • How much would it cost to fix my water damaged ipod touch?

I was caught in a storm and my ipod touch got a little wet. I checked it over and there was a little water under the screen but it was still functioning (played music and touch screen worked). I switched it off and dried it out but I couldnt see if there was water left without the screen being on. I put it on to charge and the laptop recongised it and the ipod began charging. An hour into charging it when dead. I unplugged it and left it to dry out for a further 4days. I put it back onto charge again. The laptop and itunes recognises it and says its charging but my ipod screen is still black and itunes cant connect to the ipod but can still recognise it... Is this a fixable ipod and if so how much are the repair costs as the indicator in the headphone port is pink so I know its not covered.

Depends on whether you send it to Apple to be serviced or a 3rd party repair company.  Here are Apple's prices.  Keep in mind they don't actually repair the iPod, but instead replace it with a refurbished model.

For 3rd party companies, do a Google search for iPod Touch repair and you should get a plethora of results with a varied price range.

  • Where can I fix water damaged iPod Touch?

My iPod got water damaged and now the front camera won't work. Since apple won't fix it for free, how much would it cost to get it fixed?

  • Water damaged ipod touch 4th gen.

my ipod is water damaged does anyone know where to get it fixed or how much it will cost?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is no iPod Touch 6th Generation. 4th Generation is the newest iPod Touch. However if you have the Advanced Black Tie Protection (which includes Accidental Handling) Best Buy can send it out for rapid exchange. If you just have the standard Black Tie protection accidental damage (water) would not be covered and you would be subject to the above repair prices to get it repaired by Apple.
If you dont have the receipt or Black Tie number that is not a issue. Go to any best Buy and they can pull up the service plan.

  • Spilled water on iPod touch.

yesterday I spilt water on my Ipod touch and i soaked it in rice over night. I checked and there is no red ring in the headphone jack. It makes no noise when i plug it into the computer and i cant plug it in all the way because there is rice stuck in it. It does nothing when I try to turn it on. I still have a warrinty on it so if i have to send it in I can. Pleas help!

I would leave the iPod in a sealed bag/container of uncooked rice linger, like three or four days and then see it it works.  Getting liquid on/in the iPod voids the warranty.  There are sensors in the iPod that will show if it was exposed to liquid.
    5. What type of damages are not covered by my warranty?
Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, liquid damage, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details. When a service is not covered under the warranty, Apple will return your original iPod to you without providing service, and may hold you responsible for shipping costs, plus any applicable sales tax.
An iPod that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPod that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Please see  Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • Water Damaged iPod Touch - worth a new battery?

I had put my iPod Touch through the washing machine around Christmas time last year. I just put it aside - thinking it was damaged beyond repair.
Today I plugged it in to my Macbook Pro - and lo and behold - I got the red battery charging symbol!
After charging for about 15 minutes, I powered off and then on - VOILA! I had my iPod touch back! I saw icons, etc. Or so it seemed. I was excited and so paid for and d/l the new 2.2 software. The upgrade tried to run, then failed. Now I did notice that the iPod Touch was not even warm after charging for 15 minutes - I think the battery is no longer functional - and maybe the software upgrade only works if it detects a functional battery?
My question is this - if I pay for a battery replacement now, will I have a functional iPod after the battery replacement, or have I "bricked" the iPod Touch for good?

Having it sitting unused for so long, it will need a good full charge.
Let it charge overnight; make sure you are charging from a wall outlet, or a powered up computer via USB (sleeping is OK). Connected to a powered off computer may drain the battery further.
After fully charging, use it for a bit to determine whether battery life has been reduced.
If it's OK, plug in to your computer again, and see if it will show up in iTunes.
If she boots into iTunes, update and/or restore software using the Summary.
If it has been damaged by an incomplete install of 2.2, I would take it to an apple store to see if they can reinstall or replace the unit due to software installation corruption.

  • IPod touch dropped in the water, now sound doesn't play anymore, except ringtones

    Hi,
An acquaintance of mine fell in the water, with his iPod touch still in his pocket. After getting out of the water, his iPod touch seemed to work fine, except the speaker; no music or other sounds play, except ringtones and notification sounds. Does this fall under the warranty, and what should he do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    - Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Probably dead if you have tried to charge it.
You should never try to charge or turn on a wet electronic device.
You should let it dry for  a week or so, then try.

  • My ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put the passcode in my ipod, and i can't do anything with my ipod until it connects. what should i do?

my ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put in the passcode, and i can't do anything to my ipod until it connects to itunes. so, basically i can't do anything from the ipod or to it from the computor. what should i do?

    Restore...
From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • How can I tell if my iPod touch is water damaged?

How can I tell if my iPod touch 5th generation is water damaged? It will not turn on or charge but I can't tell what is wrong with it.

Without cracking it open you really can't. This is a long shot, you could try drying it out. Do not attempt to charge or turn on, leave it off. Place it in a sealed bag of uncooked rice for about a week. change the rice every couple of days. After you dry it attempt to turn it on, you my need to charge it first, about 30 minutes. If it works great, if not you may need to reset or attempt to restore. And it may never work again, but for a couple of dollars of rice its worth trying. If you do get it to work the first thing you want to do is make a full backup to your computer. The thing with water damage is you just don't know how long it will continue to work.  If you go to Apple be prepared to spend some money, water damage is not covered with the standard warranty. Good luck, hope this helps. Cheers.
