Watermark bug in DVDSP 4.2

I need to bug a project with a logo... I can get the logo into the project as a .tif or .pict (grayscale), position it on the subtitle track, force it to stay there, etc. The problem is during the build... it gives me this:
Starting DVD Build ABC...
Compiler Initializing...
Precompiling Project ABC
Compiling VMG Information...
Created 8 PGCs in VTSM1
Created 8 PGCs in VMG.
1 Menu(s) will be created...

Writing VIDEO_TS.VOB
1 VTSs and 1 Titles will be created...
Compiling VTS#1 (FF 217)...

Video File Read Error
It's a simple project with an m2v and an aiff file at an acceptable bitrate.
Any successes? Please don't suggest I bug and render a 30 minute series style program in FCP!
Thanks!

Try changing the audio to AC3 as an aif. Also do you have any other subtitles (you may be going over total rate for the track it sounds like) What was your video encoding rate?
Lastly, you may be better off using either Final Cut or Compressor when encoding to m2v to add a watermark as oppossed to the subtitle method, not sure if you are worried about people removing the watermark or not.

  • LR 3.3 watermark bugs

    Hi,
the new Lightroom release is nice, except for the watermark function:
    1) With some fonts (e.g. Monotype Corsiva) the right side of the shadow (when enabled) is severely cropped - useless for any professional output.
    2) Why has the behavior of shadow sliders been changed? I had perfectly tuned watermarks in LR 2.2 and now have to start all over again. More, it's quite difficult to get the exact same look.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 32-bit. Any help with the above issues, especially no.1? Watermarking is very important for me and I wouldn't like to go back to LR 3.2. One option is to create the watermark in another Application and then import as graphics, but it's a bit cumbersome. Hopefully a fix is coming soon (LR 3.4?) such a nuisance shouldn't have slipped into the final release, especially since it's a regression.
    Thanks for any input.
    Karel
P.S.: Is there an official bug form that I could fill, so that the developers are notified?

Assuming you meant LR 3.2 (not 2.2), did you see this in the 'Bugs fixed' section of the release notes?
The watermark drop shadow settings behaved differently in Lightroom 3.2  when compared to Lightroom 3.0.  They have been returned to the  Lightroom 3.0 behavior.
    Have you tried the LR/Mogrify 2 plug-in?:

I haven't tested it myself, but others seem to like it a lot.  The FAQ points out several issues you should make yourself aware of beforehand.  I'm sure other forum members can contribute more info on this if you ask.

  • HD-DVD created with DVDSP will not use more than one subtitle track

I have made an HD-DVD with DVD Studio Pro 4.1.2, and added 4 subtitle tracks. When I play the dvd on a Toshiba A1, Apples DVD player and in the emulator I can change the subtitle track in the way that I can see the country code is changing, but no matter what it will only show me the subtitles from the first subtitle track. If I try to change the subtitle track using the remote, I can only turn the first subtitle track on and of, not switch between the different subtitle tracks. I'm a skilled dvd author, and have had several other authors look into the project finding no errors in my programming, so could this be a bug in DVD SP? Does it not allow more than one subtitle track?

Could be a bug in DVDSP. Also could be a bug in the players firmware. DVDSP never really made it has a fully functional HD DVD authoring tool.

  • Bug with buttons

I have a simple menu with a video set as background and a psd (one layer only) file for the incrustation (overlay).
    I created a button.
The incrustation disappears when I switch between the different button states (opacity and color are set correctly in the button inspector tab)
I get the same problem with a mac pro and snow leopard 10.6.
Is it a bug from DVDSP 4.2.2 or did I miss something?
    Thanks.

    Hi Josh
Shared with you as "read only". Wonder if its enough?
Worth Mentioning that the personel that reported the bug was using IE9
    The process works as follows.
"Person 1" answers the form normally and saves. "Person 2" receives the form by e-mail trought the "E-mail" Box at the top.
"Person 1" Answers "Capa Dura" as "Sim" on first page (green page).
Questions "Revest.", "Hot", "Abertura", "Corte" and "Extras" show up. Answers normally and Save.
Person 2 receives the form and opens it, bug happens. She can't see "Revest.", "Hot", "Abertura", "Corte" and "Extras" unless she answers "Não" (no) on "Capa Dura" and select "Sim" (yes) again.
Same stuff happens on the below field "Caixa Box" same process.

  • Lightroom 4.4 jpeg export watermark issue

Not sure abbout the older LR versions because I only tried this on LR 4.4.. After I edited my Raw images shot by Nikon D600, I'd like to export them to Jpeg format with my watermark. The watermark will not show if I exported the images in original size (6016 x 4016) as shot. However the watermark works fine if I resize the images to a smaller size, such as 1200 x 1024. Has anyone experienced the same issue? How can I work around it?

Irrespective of the rights/wrongs about exporting full resolution jpegs, the problem you describe sounds like the long-standing watermark bug. Basically there are certain circumstances whereby a text-based watermark will not show on the exported jpeg, and the factors that influence this are as follows:
The font being used for the watermark.....only certain fonts may be affected, e.g. Lucida Calligraphy is one. But even then the bug may not occur, as it also depends on:
    a) The pixel dimensions specified for the output file. The larger the pixel size, the greater the risk that the bug will bite (as you have already discovered).
    and/or
    b) The proportional size as specified in the watermark editor....again the larger the size, the more likely the bug will bite.
    So the workarounds are:
    1) Try a different font.
    2) Try reducing the pixel dimensions for the output file.
    3) Or try reducing the specified proportional size.

  • Multilanguage menus in dvdsp 2.0.5

I have tried to search the forums, but I didn't found a solution to my problem. Closed answer was that this aint possible due to a bug in DVDSP
I need to make it possible for the user to make a manual language selection, so the menus shows the proper backgrounds and so on.
Making a different set of menus for each language isn't really an option in this project (I think), because I need to link back to the proper menu from different tracks.

Hi Aldershot - any chance you could expand on this?
I am pretty certain that you can't force a DVD to use a different language to the value held in SPRM0, but you can use a manual system and create duplicates of all the menus accordingly, effectively by-passing the language setting on the DVD. This, of course, is not the same as adding a language to the disc.
How would you trap the value of SPRM0 and set the default language accordingly through scripting?

  • DVDSP Help - Video not playing in Viewer during some assets, only audio...

Video not playing in Viewer during some assets, only audio until paused. once you hit the space bar or pause, the video shows up in viewer? same results when burnd to disc.
when dragging cursor through out timeline (track 1) video shows up in viewer fine too.
any advice on what could be wrong?
at first i was thinking this was a memory problem, i added another Gig of ram and the problem still exhists.
    thanks!

    Hi Crazy Dan:
It's a kind of bug in DVDSP Simulator. If you build your project in your hard drive and test it with DVD Player all video will play fine.
I would like to tell you where exactly the problem is located, but it's just a Simulator problem.
    Try building your project.
    Hope that helps !

  • No Audio on MPEG-1 files since upgrade to 7.0.2

I recently upgraded to QT 7.0.2 as well as having to re-install DVD Studio Pro 3 (and did them in that order). I have QT Pro.
Since then I can't hear any audio from Muxed MPEG1 files (so, lot's of stuff online) although the EQ meter in Quicktime is still registering the sound. Additionally, the MPEG1 files playback really choppy and usually freeze (the image quality looks a bit rough too).
    All other formats are fine.
I do have some DivX components, but had removed them. FYI, this is the list of components installed (including the DivX ones):
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AC3 Codec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 5.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    FFusion.component
    LiveType.component
    Toast Video CD Support.qtx
    I have so far tried:
Using the 7.0.1 re-installer (no joy there)
    Re-updating again to 7.0.2
Removing the DivX components (no joy there)
Ensuring the Pro Apps update was installed (fixed another bug in DVDSP, but not the MPEG1 issue)
Ensuring the latest update of DVDSP 3 (don't have the need for 4).
Anyone got any ideas? It's a real pain.
(My next thing will be to roll back to QT 6) and work my way up again.

    For me the fix worked at the 64KHz - 2ch/24bit setting (iMac G5, 1.8GHz, 768MB RAM, QT7.0.3).
But, I must say, it's quite unacceptable on Apple's part not to make sure to notify those who update to 7.x.x in good faith and trust that there is this tiny change needed in some settings. I spent several hours downloading re-installers, trying to roll back to QT6.5.2, and then this wouldn't work, and I had to go back up, download third-party software to use with my muxed mpg's, and, while doing all this, suffer my first real (and frightening...) black-screen crash after more than a year of use.

  • Motion Menu backgrounds are the same through different languages... why?

I'm building a project with several still menus, but one motion menu for main title. The Project has two languages, Spanish and English, and I've created the menus for both languages. Still menus have the same background and different text objects. The motion menu has different video backgrounds for each language, and the same overlay for both. So far so good, everything works as expected in the simulation window, I can see the desired background after setting the language menu preference.
Then I build the project and... DVD player shows only the first language background, no matter the language I choose in preferences. But this happens only in the motion menu, still menus work fine.
I opened the menus VOB in the build folder with MPEG Streamclip to check what happened, and the same video background appears twice. Other commercial DVD's I've checked show the different backgrounds sequentially, so the player chooses which point of the VOB must be played according to player's SPRM 0 setting.
I tried altering the order of languages in DVDSP outline editor, I had Spanish first then English, and after swapping them and building again, the menus VOB shows English background twice.
The result is no matter which language I choose to see, I always get the one that is first in outline editor.
I also tried, just for checking, assigning different text objects to both languages, and they do work as expected. But since the menu has an intro with a loop point where I want the text to appear, this is not a deffinitive option for me.
I understand this is a bug in DVDSP, so the question is... any workaround anyone may think of?
If someone knows how I can edit the vob manually that would do for now.

Hi DGuerra, based on a past thread, the missing comments may be related to using avast! and its browser add-on(s).
Firefox is so easy to customize that it's not really surprising to find differences between two systems. These can relate to the menu choices (orange Firefox button or classic menu bar), toolbar layouts, and of course, add-ons.
If you have a preference for one setup versus another, hopefully these articles can equalize some of those layout issues:
    * [[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar]]
    * [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]]
You can compare extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Perhaps you can get the two side-by-side to make it easier, or to extract a text list, you can use the troubleshooting information page. Either:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
The button in the upper left corner "Copy text to clipboard" will grab the configuration information from entire page.

  • "media still in use" HELP!

Everytime i format/build my project, I get an error message that says "One of the volumes on the media is still in use." Does anyone know how to handle this problem? I can't seem to find anything on this particular issue in the user manual or on the net anywhere. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    Hello,
I don't have any answers for you but I want to at least let you know I experienced the same annoying message when trying to build and burn. It was the weirdest thing. I've shut down my computer and did a restart and then I recieved a message that the "disk inserted cannot be read" once everything was rebooted. I think theres a bug in DVDSP as well as Compressor. I think I should have stuck with 5.1.4 until all known bugs were identified and fixed. It's really annoying. If you find out anything, please let me know. Thanks,
    TAZZ1

  • GPRM based button ignores Start at loop point!

I have made the well known gprm based button script that jumps to last pressed button of a menu, and it works fine, but if I also enable the 'Start at loop point' function it only works in the simulator but never on test discs or final DLT's.
Is it a software bug that DVDSP 4.03 ignores the start at loop point if it also should jump to a gprm based button?

Nice... I've just done this and got exactly the same as you.
It would appear to be that the loop point argument is stored in the same way a prescript is stored - and hence the GPRM based button jump doesn't work.
I'll look further into this to see if I am on the right lines, but you'll need to create a second menu which is identical to the looping portion of the first, then point to that instead of the first menu. A GPRM based button jump should then work:
    mov GPRM0, SPRM8
    div GPRM0, 1024
    Jump menu2 [GPRM0]
This will have the same visual effect as you want, at the cost of having a second menu on your disc.

  • Problems replacing m2v assets

i regularly run into a problem when i try to replace an existing m2v asset in a dvdsp project in that the new asset is not properly loaded, it only displays a black screen.
the new m2v file is created using the exact same presets as the original file
    also the duration hasn't changed
i can open the m2v file in mpeg streamclip without a problem
and dvdsp doesn't warn me that assets have changed or throw an error message at me ....
a little stumped at what the cause is
usually i solve it by re-encoding the file - with the same preset again, but using a slightly different name
oh and deleting the PAR folder doesn't solve the problem either ...
anyone else run into this problem?
    any solutions/suggestions/workarounds?
    thanks

Funny you should ask...I posted about this on Sunday and figured out the problem (my thread is here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=535301&tstart=30)
    Here's what I discovered...
Basically, there seems to be a bug in DVDSP where it will still reference the old file (it seems to be in the PAR folder, and that it doesn't parse the new asset but references the old still). The main problem seems to be when you are using/referencing the old file in motion menus or something else.
What I found I had to do was this:
    1) Move the original asset to another location
    2) Make sure the new asset is named differently than the original file
    3) Delete the original PAR folder
    4) open DVDSP and the project
    5) use the re-link function to replace the missing asset with the new one
By doing this, it creates a fresh parse file and substitutes the new asset with the old in every instance that the old was used (this seems to be the big 'bad' in getting that blank screen.

  • Parsing Assets ... Forever! Help my project is buring!

OK, we're using DVDSP 3. Up till now, we've had no trouble with it. I finished a project months ago and transfered the entire project (with all it's files) to an external firewire drive for storage. Now I need to make a change. When I open the project, I get a "parsing assets" process bar than never moves. I have tried moving the project back to the original drive, deleting the PAR folder, and renaming the assets folder. No luck. Still hangs on parsing no matter what. Current projets work just fine. Only these that I "off-loaded" to the firewire drive don't work. I guess I learned this backup trick from FCP. Maybe DVDSP just can't work like this. I found a few mentions of this error on the net, but no further comments or solutions. All had be deleted (?). Is this a Bug in DVDSP or did I forget to read the small print somewhere aagain? Very frustrating. I really don't want to re-create the entire project from scratch just to fix a typo on a chapter menu. What a drag. This high tech software looks pretty silly now.

Complaining works every time! I went back to reconsider my file structure and found the cuase of the bug. And I do think this is a bug. When I originaly built my project, I did it all in a folder named EXAMPLE DVD. But when I transfered the files to the firewire drive, I named the drive EXAMPLE DVD and then placed all the contents of the folder onto thew drive. I did not plan to put anything else on the drive. This caused the parsing error on startup. To fix this, all I did was create a new folder on the firewire drive and named it EXAMPLE DVD then put all the files on the drive into that folder. It seems DVDSP sees folder and volumes much differently. FCP is so forgiving for errors like this. I sure how DVDSP continues to evolve. I's like to not have to save the file every 5 minutes as well. Oh well, at least I can fix my typo now.

  • Encoding too slow

    Hi,
    • QuickTime file is made in Final Cut Express 3.5 and then imported into DVDSP 3 project.
    • Video and Audio assets (single track)
    • Menu with single button (play) is targeted to track 1
    • 13 Chapters are marked in the timeline
    • Plays fine in Simulator
    • DVD blank is accepted and encoding assets begins
*and then it has remained at 32% complete for about 2 hours now.*
Never had this problem...anything I can do? Problem?
    Please help, project due tomorrow.
    Thanks!
I have done numerous projects with DVDSP 3
I have not had this problem before. Any suggestions welcome.

This is a bug in DVDSP. If you bring in a video and let DVDSP do the compression, it will sometimes freeze up. The solution: bring your video into Compressor and create a MPEG-2 for your video and a AC3 file for your audio. Bring those two files into DVDSP for authoring. As an added bonus to working around the bug, you will also get higher quality results.
    There is a tutorial here for using Compressor;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/compressorwarmouth.html
I don't remember if A.Pack was a separate program with DVDSP 3. With version 4 it's capabilities are now built into Compressor. If you have A.Pack, then use the tutorial below, otherwise just use the settings described in Compressor.

  • Bug problem in DVDSP please help!

    hello,
i recently installed DVDSP 4.2.1 and i cannot see any text or images that i drop into my menu. i try and change the color of the font to see if it is blending into the background, but nothing shows up.
images in the menu also do not appear when i drop in as "background"
is there a glitch or bug in my program?
    thanks,
    steven

It sounds like a glitch - have you trashed the prefs file for DVDSP? Are you using any font software to manage your system's fonts at all? If so, make sure that you haven't inadvertently turned off any of the fonts that DVDSP uses for menus, etc.
