Watt usage monitor for MBP

Is it possible to use this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009MDBU/kenrockwellcom) to see how much power my laptop is using?
I mean, because it has a battery, it is DC not AC inside the computer, right? So actualy the monitor will only show the charging behaviour, no?
Thanks!

That's right, it won't show actual real-time consumption. The MBP appears to utilise both battery and mains power when available, such that Apple says NOT to run off mains without the battery installed:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
Otherwise, one could try running solely from the mains and measuring that, although then you might run into the problem of sampling and display rate.
Also note that this unit is for 110 volt mains. I have one, and it works well.

  • BB usage monitor for 1 month ?

OK, just found the account linked usage monitor, and can see what has been recorded month to date.
Allowing for the fact it's a new tool, it would be nice to see previous months' data too, to assess trending vs. best service selection.
I can't see a way of selecting a date range, say from when the tool started until today though - is this available elsewhere? I presume the data is captured somehow by BT for quarterly billing support.

    Hi.
A number of "us" have already pointed this out. You can keep your own figures of course, say in a spreadsheet. The only problem is the silly fault with the system (not yet acknowledged) in that the figures for last day of the month (and hence the overall previous month's figures) are not available.
The meter shows the usage up to midnight the previous day - but does not d this when the day is 1st of the month. At the beginning of November, the meter was reset and the figures for 31st October (and hence the whole month) were not available.
The meter was supposed to go live at the beggining of October, but was delayed until 4th. It's possible that the flaw as seen above may have caused a problem and delayed the implementation.

  • Recommend anti-glare LCD monitor for MBP 13

Hello, I need a decent quality antiglare type monitor to be the external monitor for graphics work with my MacBook Pro 13 inch unibody. I just tried an HP ZR24w but was not able to get it working. The monitor would light up for one second and my desktop showed, then it would immediately go dark. Apple support could not help, HP support  kept me on hold for 45 min. and then dropped my call.
Unfortunately Apple no longer makes antiglare monitors for its graphics professional community. If they did I would buy an Apple monitor. I am currently using an old Apple Cinema Display but it has a bad case of creeping screen defects and looks terrible.
Is anyone out there sucessfully using an external monitor with MBP that has an antiglare screen, does 1920 x 1200 res and has an IPS LCD?
The usual suspects that people recommend for graphics work in the mid-range are Dell ultra-sharp and HP LP2475w. Since I do less graphics work than I used to I thought the ZR24w would be a good affordable option, however since I could not get it to work I am concerned that none of these other monitors will be compatible either. Buying and returning vis mail order is expensive... would really appreciate hearing what other people are using.
Please let me know what connector you are using. I tried the ZR24w with both DVI and displayPort but neither of these options work for me. Apple tech support was stumped and blamed it on HP.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA!

There should be a anti-glare option on ALL Mac's, however the 13" is certainly the next prime candidate for one given that they rolled out anti-glare for the 17" first, then the 15" next.

It's within your budget and you could still afford a good adapter for it (such as this one from Monoprice).

  • Can I use 24 inch iMac as a monitor for MBP

I have a Mid 2007 iMac and want to use it as a monitor for a MacBook Pro or a Mac Air, is this possible??

Yes, all Intel Macs can at some point offer screen sharing.  The faster the connection, the better the screen sharing speed.   Mac OS X 10.5 iChat offers screen sharing.  Mac OS X 10.6 and higher Sharing System Preferences offers Screen Sharing.   VNC is an alternative.  But it must initially be configured when both machines have working displays attached.  Once done, the machines that have their display shared don't need an external display.

  • Power Usage Monitor for 20" Alu iMac

I'm looking for a free, reliable power use monitor that will tell me how many watts the computer is drawing at that moment, average power consumption, and any other bells and whistles that might be handy. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

I'm not positive but I do not think there is any software that can report the power usage of your iMac. To my knowledge you need something that plugs inline with your power supply. The newest APC UPS systems have power meters built into them. There have been a few topics where people have plugged in a power meter and reported their iMacs power consumption. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6160596&#6160596

  • Internet usage monitor for E71

    Hello,
Is there any Nokia application out there to monitor the internet usage in terms of bandiwidth ?. I need to know whether I am exceeding what I am supposed to download per month

Menu > Log > Packet Data, shows all sent and recieved data (so add them up for total usage), and you can reset the totals here anytime and set the log duration. If you are billed to say the 21st of a month then that is inclusive so reset last thing that night.

  • Using a PC laptop as external monitor for MBP

    Hi!
I just purchased my first mac. I want to have a dual monitor setup so I can have a bigger workspace when I design graphics on my Macbook Pro.
Can I use my other laptop, which is a Toshiba, as an external monitor? The guy at Radioshack was worried that both the MBP and the PC laptop would try to send output signals and end up frying both video cards.
    Thanks!

ScreenRecycler works very well. Contrary to what others have said on these boards, it is possible to use a second laptop as an external display.
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/home.html
You will need a fast network connection between the two machines. Gigabit ethernet would be best, but performance is very good with 100 Mb. I wouldn't try using wireless to connect the machines - too much lag.

  • When is the usage monitor going to be fixed?

I have been getting this message for months now,
"The usage monitor is currently not available for a small number of customers. We understand how important it is to monitor usage, and as you're not able to view the usage monitor we will not charge you for going over your usage limit this month. You don't need to do anything, we'll take care of that."
When is this going to be fixed? how many other people are getting this message?
    Regards,
    Frogman

I get the same message as you ukfrogman
Only been on BT Infinity for a couple of weeks. Had the usage monitor for the first few days, then it dissapeared and I now get the same message as you.

  • Cannot access broadband usage monitor

    Hi,
I've been having trouble accessing the usage monitor for the last two weeks, prior to that it was fine so I'm trying to work out what has changed.  I've done a few searches on the boards but nothing has really helped.  I saw some posts by Andy_N with various methods for accessing the usage monitor but all of these come up with the same message:
The usage monitor is currently undergoing maintenance. Please try again later.
At first I thought it was just exactly what it said, that the monitor was down for maintenance but now that I've not been able to access it for some days it seems obvious that the problem lies at my end or with my account.  I also get another message on the 'Welcome to MyBT' page which possibly indicates an account issue:
Sorry, we are currently unable to present Manage your services information.
I've tried accessing the usage monitor from more than one browser/computer so I don't think it's a cookies issue or anything like that.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experienced anything similar or should I just give BT a call?  Is there a specific phone number you can call to request your current broadband usage that I can use in the meantime?
    Thanks
    Paul

Hi Paul. Welcome to the forums.
Have a look at my shortcuts (link below), options 14d-14j, and as mentioned the one in 14j one is the most recent monitor access.

  • How do I use my iMac(late 2009) as a monitor for my MBP(2012) or my MBP(late 2010) without software?

I currently have a late 2009 iMac, a 2012 MBP, a mid 2010 MBP and a MinDisplay Port (MDP) male to male cable. I am trying to either use the iMac a second monitor for one of the MBPs or mirror the display.
The iMac has a MDP port and is running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
The MBP 2010 has a MDP port and is running OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion)
The MBP 2012 has a Thunderbolt port and is running OS X 10.9 (Maverics)
When I connect the 2010 MBP to the iMac with the MDP cable the screen of the iMac goes black and the MBP flashes blue. I have been looking for a solution and I have tried:
Rebooting them in the order of: connecting the cable, turing on the MBP, then turing on the iMac
Whilst they are on simply plugging the cable between the two
Connecting them with the cable while they are on, then pressing cmd-f1 on the MBP
Connecting them with the cable while they are on, then pressing cmd-f1 on the iMac
Pressing cmd-f2 on the iMac, whilst there are connected, only toggles a black screen on the iMac
Pressing cmd-f2 on the MBP doesn't do anything
Every time I connect the MBP 2012 to the iMac with the MDP cable, the MBP screen goes black and the computor screen becomes unresponsive but the screen stays on and I have to reboot the MBP.
I will really appreciate anyone who has any information on this topic.
    Thanks

  • Best Monitor for a Quicksilver/TwinView Combo?

    Hi,
I have a Quicksilver running Tiger, with a GeForce2 TwinView (64MB, Quartz supported, Core not supported). I use 9.2.2 and OSX, on separate drives.
I don't want to spend a lot more money on the machine - I just put in a Mercury Extreme 1.47 processor upgrade. But, I would like a good quality image, as my old CRT is starting to hurt my eyes.
I'm trying to locate a monitor I can run at a high refresh rate - above 100Hz, with at least a resolution of 1024 x 768 - using the current card, if that's possible.
If not, I would be interested in options you think are effective and cost conscious.
    Thanks for your time.
    J.C.

    Hi again!
With an LCD Monitor, Refresh Rate is moslky academic... 60MHz will appear as solid as CRTs needing 120MHz, and actually require less CPU time.
Watt usage is far less also.
