Wav file in email won't play

I got an email with a brief wav file ( telephone message) and they always play on iPhone, but wouldn't play on iPad. Why?

Are you sure you did download the entire message? The built-in media player (QucikTime) should play WAV files and no third-party apps should be required.
See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3652515?start=0&tstart=0
Nevertheless, if you in no way can make it work, let me know and I compile a full list of WAV-capable third-party players (there are a lot of them).

quicktime (version 7.0.3, Player Version 7.0.3) sayz "Alert. Quicktime cannot open the file: xyz.mpe it is not a file that Quicktime understands (-2048).
I've set "open with" via "get info" and set preferences in both realplayer and quicktime to no avail. (I don't find "mpe" referenced in the mime types in quicktime preferences). Nothing in the logs.
All this on my eMac Mac OS X 10.3.9 with the mpe file dragged to the desktop.
    Any thoughts?

Mpegs in WIndows sometimes have a .mpeg extension and for some reason OS X doesn't seem to want to recognize such files are mpegs. Other people with this problem have been able to rename the video with a .mpg extension and then QT and OS X suddenly recognize it as an mpeg. Give it a try.

  • Wav on ext hdd won't play in audition when opened from file explorer

    Two computers:
Lenovo thinkpad T440s with Win 8.1
Dell Precision M4600 with Win 7
    Both running Audition CS5.5
Two portable USB3 external hard drives
    WD Passport Ultra
    WD Elements
Same problem on both computers and drives:
When I try and open and play a wav file in Audition directly from File/Windows Explorer (either by setting Audition as default prog or by right click>open with), Audition launches, but file does not appear or play.  No wave form visible, just empty editor.
However it will play from external drive if I open it from within Audition (file>open).
It also plays if I copy the same file to the internal hard drive of either computer and open from File/Windows Explorer.
It also plays from external drive if I set Window Media Player as default prog. and open from File/Windows Explorer.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to play a wav stored on an external drive by double clicking on it.

    Hi,
Which type of files have the issue? Are they also the Word and Excel files? From which client the users access the files on the server? If it is Windows 7 client, you could disable the Preview Pane and the Details Pane in Windows Explorer, on the client machine
    to check the results.
Some troubleshooting steps are in the blog which could also be used in Windows Server 2012:

  • How do you play a WAV file attached email

  • Opening .wav files in emails in iPad

I've setup my desk phone to email messages to me as .wav files.  The .wav files don't open on my iPad.  Any recommended app's?

If you search the store  you will find a couple of apps that reportedly will play wav files.   But, i also did a search in old forums, and wav voice mail playing was a fairly well reprted issue on the iphone, pre pad, and was fixed in ios2.
The problem then was that the provider was using a new and unsupported codec in their wav file. Does the system you are using to create the files have any output settings or options?  This might be as simple as a non standard sample rate that you can adjust.
I also note that the native player in my pad plays wav files just file.  I pulled a few from websites, and they all play.
What happens when you touch the e mail attachment?  Does it not play, or do you get a message?

  • .MOD files in Quicktime won't play

I'm trying to convert .mod files into MPEG files. I'm working on an
iMac 3.06 GHz Inteal Core Duo. I shot video on Canon FS100 camera and
when I uploaded the video and the files are ".MOD"s. I can't play them
on my computer. I changed the file extension to .MPG. but it won't
play on my quicktime (Version 7.5.5 (249.24). How can I get these to
    play?

Checking the forums, I found threads that point to using Streamclip. I tried it and got this message:
"You will miss the two most important features of MPEG Streamclip:
    - you won't be able to play MPEG-2 files and transport streams;
    - you won't be able to convert MPEG-2 files and transport streams to QuickTime, DV, AVI.
However, all other features are always available, including playback and conversion of MPEG-1 to QuickTime, DV, AVI, demuxing of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, AC3 decoding, and conversion from transport streams to MPEG files (useful if you have Toast 6).
MPEG Streamclip is free of charge but the MPEG-2 Playback Component has a small price (around $20/£15/€20 in most countries); you can buy it online from Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2"
Is this really the only way?

  • Problem with .wav files not being able to play on CD players

What am I doing wrong? I took some .wav recordings, loaded them into iTunes, then transferred to a CD-R. The files from the CD-R would play on both Mac and PC computers, but not on any CD players. When loading the files, they automatically went into iTunes. Should I have somehow put them into Garage Band - would that even make a difference? I thought maybe my discs were bad/wrong, so purchased Music CD-R and have the same problem.
    Please, can someone help? Thanks!

Although WAV files have the same audio coding as an audio CD, a disc full of WAV files does not act like an audio CD; it lacks the indexing and ToC needed in order for a "regular" CD player to play it. As Diane notes, put your WAV files in an iTunes playlist and burn it as an *audio CD.*

  • Streaming wav files once edited won't work in flash

I need some help with streaming wav files in flash. I can load a wav file and stream it ok using actionscript 3 into my fla file. However if I go to edit the wav and make it shorter the saved wav file will not play. I have used a trial version of soundbooth to see if I could somehow change the settings for the wav but I still cannot make it work. It will stream as an mp3 but I want the file to loop and need the file to be wav. I have attached the file. I have no problem when I upload the file into the fla file but that is not what I want to do.
    Can anyone help me.
    Cheers.

Thanks for the input however I had already tried a variety of combinations. But I did go through it again.
The Flash Player supports 8-bit or 16-bit audio at sample rates of               5.512, 11.025, 22.05, or 44.1 kHz. I have tried all permutations of wav from 8 bit to 16bit and the all sampling rates from 11.025. The original file is attached at it was at 32000hz. Nothing I can do will make these play in flash once edited. I am using soundbooth howeve I have used audacity and wavepad. I have removed the metadata tags as that was suggested in one of the forums. I have attached the original files and the shortened file that I cannot get to work. I went into Soundbooth and went through all the preferences and checked the box where it asked for FLash compaticble at 16bit 44 hz etc. This is really frustrating. I know wav can be streamed.

  • YouTube links in email won't play

My wife took her brand new iPad on a trip this week. While she was away I emailed her links to some YouTube videos of the kids I had uploaded. The videos play with no problem when we click the link in her email on a "regular" computer, but clicking the link through the iPad's Mail program results in a "YouTube Not Available" message.
That's pretty discouraging given that we just got the thing home! What's up?

we have the beautiful Youtube app on our devises, which is specialy build for the iPad, because the flash based Youtube side doesn't work on this devise.
When you just surf to youtube.com, you'll be redirected to a mobile version of the side and will be able to play the videos. but the links you are receiving are found on the regular site, so the link leads you to the normal site, which doesn't work on your device.
Pitty, get used to it is the remedy.
I'll guess it won't take very long untill youtube changes to HTML5 just like Vimeo, than you will be able to see such links.

  • HT203167 Moved iTunes library from one computer to another using external hard drive.  Cannot play many files.  Says they are missing but locates them in an archive file but still won't play them.  Are the files themselves part of the .itl files?

Moved iTunes library from old computer (PC Windows 7) to new (PC Window 8) using external hard drive.  Library listing shows all music but can only play a fraction of it.  On the ones it cannot play it asks to locate, then refers to an archived version (an .itl file), and still cannot play them.  Do I just need to copy the archived .itl over, or is that not where the actual media are (do the actual media files even exist on the new computer?)?  Any advice or information on this would be helpful.

*Also...is there any way I can filter out all the tracks with the ! so I can delete the unplaying copies as they're taking up room in my iTunes? I know how to find duplicates, but then I have to go and delete each one individually...*
    *Thank you!*

  • AVI file (on SD) won't play

I'm trying to edit some movies on iMovie. But I can't even play my .AVI files. They have voice, but no video. The video turns to be white, with only voice. Even when I opened them in Quicktime, same problem. What should I do? Thanks in advance

Install VLC Media Player and/or Perian.
Repair permissions & restart your computer after the installation(s).

  • Playing Auditon files when they won't play!

My Adobe Audition has stopped palying files that I've already opened and which appear to be fine.  I can't get them to play with either the space bar or the "play" arrow.  I NEED my Auditon!

This behavior, no playback or response when pressing play, generally indicates Audition and the audio driver aren't quite seeing eye-to-eye.  Usually this can be resolved by forcing Audition to reload the audio driver.
If you go to Preferences > Audio Hardware, first try changing the Master Clock setting.  If it's currently set to Out, change it to In, or vice versa.  Click OK, then change it back and click OK once more, then try to play a file.
If this doesn't help, let's force it to use a different driver or device option, then switch it back.  You can do this quickly by changing the Device Class option.  Depending on the version of Audition and the audio device you're using, you may see MME, WDM and ASIO on Windows.  Try changing this to a different option, clicking OK then returning to change it back once more.
If neither of these methods resolve the issue, please let us know what OS and Audio Device you are using on this system and we can continue troubleshooting.

  • Quicktime movie HD file I received won't play when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3, it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type?

Large, 5min long Quicktime .mov HD file I received says it's converting when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3 but then stops and tells me it's not a supported file type, a program I downloaded to try and convert the file type also told me the same thing.
Doesn't let me see a preview so I think the file is to blame.
I believe it's a faulty file as it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type but is there any way to be sure?
