.wav file to mp3 file ????

My songs are in .wav files and need to be in mp3 files. Does anyone know how to do this? I burned CD's in Roxio CD Creator and saved the files - which Roxio converted to .wav
They are not compressed enough and my IPOD will only hold 42 songs.

To convert a song's file format:
1.Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button at the top of the window and click Importing.
2.From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
3.Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except songs you purchased from the Music Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)

Importing WAV files as MP3 files Macbook?

I got the digital download of Dragon Age Inquisition's soundtrack but it came as a WAV file. When I go to iTunes settings, under general it just has import settings for CDs not files. It has 'When CD is inserted: ()' and then import settings next to that, which only modifies what it does for CDs.
This is probably a stupid question, but all of the things I've seen haven't addressed this and so I can't figure out where it is or what I should be doing.

I can't find the 'Import Using' menu under the General settings. The only import options are for CDs, not how to convert files which is what I'm trying to do. I just need to know where that function is so I can convert the WAV files to MP3 files.

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules. You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

You didn't have an .mp4 file or even a .m4a file. Yours is .m4p.
The "p" stands for protected.
The rules say you can burn your .m4p files to CD. The CD file will be in .aiff format.
Drag the .aiff file into iTunes and then "convert" (using the options in your preferences for bit rate and extension).

No, there isn't.
You can use a CD-RW instead of CD-R.
It will not play on most CD-players, but should play fine on your computer.

Converting .wav files to .mp3 files in Adobe Audition 3

I am trying to save a .wav file as an mp3. file. When I go to Save As and click on file type/Mp3, it asks me if I want to overwrite the current .wav file. When I say yes, it saves it as a .wav file. How do get it to save as a .mp3 file? I'm certain that there is an easy way to do this, but I'm missing it. Any help from this knowledgeable forum would be most appreciated.

Next time you want to save as an MP3, type the full name of the file you want to save with the full extension in the file name box - so that would be {yourfile}.mp3. This will reset the default save to the correct extension.

Ahhh, an easy one even I can handle. This is what is refered to in Logic-speak as a bounce (I would think export would be a better term). In the old days bouncing meant rerecording and premixing several tracks into another to free up more of a limited total number of tracks. How quaint! I remember those days, during the Lincoln administration if I recall correctly. Enough levity. Assuming that your mix is to your liking, go to the file menu and select bounce. You have a couple of choices in the dialog window, select mp3 for the destination choice. Also make sure your start and end postions are appropriate and select a save as title for your mp3 such as RTFM (just kidding). The realtime bounce mode allows you to listen to the mix as it's being exported to mp3 format. Once this is done you can find your new mp3 by selecting music in any finder window, and then logic>bounces. Another way to bounce is easily available from the mixer or arrange window on your output channel strip. There's a little "button" marked Bnce which opens up the bounce dialog box as well. I initially thought it was the Beyonce button but the manual cleared that up. Good luck with your mixdowns!

I have a problem in downloading files, specifically mp3 files.

Whenever I download mp3 files I receive a prompt of what to do with the file. The checkbox which allows us to use the chosen behavior as a default behavior remains unactivated. I have also tried to change the default setting to 'save file', but even then it asks me the same question.

I have imported MPEG-files to itunes. Now I would like to convert them into mp3-files in order to use them in my ipod, how can I do that? I tried several ways but it doesn't seem to work out well.
Please help me, I don't have time to import the music all over again befor my vacation!

If you have imported the mpegs into iTunes, and they will play there, you need only select the files you wish to convert, click Advanced, and choose Convert to MP3 (you'll need to select MP3 as the format for importing from CD first, from the iTunes preferences, under Advanced, and Importing, or it won't be an option in the Advanced menu).

AAC files and MP3 Files

I would like to know if there is an easier way to seperate my AAC file and My MP3 files. When I convert my AAC files to MP3s Itunes puts them in the same folder. So when I go to my Itunes music folder both MP3 and AAC are in the same folder. I was wondering if there was a way I could send my MP3 files to an external hard drive after I convert them from AACs. My hard drive on my computer won't hold all of them so I would have to do it in stages. I wish I could make them go to the external hard drive as soon as they are converted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thought about moving the whole folder to the external hard drive, but I would still have to seperate them. thanks

- Do whatever conversions you wish. Make sure you understand the potential quality loss issue mentioned by Co-Jeff.
- In your iTunes library, sort by "Kind." If Kind is not showing, go to View > Options and make sure it is checked (ticked).
- You will now see all the AACs together and all the mp3s together. Chose the ones you want to copy and highlight them. Then do Edit > Copy.
- Go to the folder in your hard drive and right-click and "Paste."
- Anything you don't still want on your main hard drive, delete it.
I assume you are talking about unprotected AAC files. If not, step 1 will not work.

You can use Quicktime Player if you install Perian (which allows you to read WMAs).
I believe Perian only supports codecs other than WMA. For WMA you need Flip4Mac. I also think that for conversion you need to get an upgraded version (payware), otherwise it only gives you the first 30 seconds or so. Even if Perian worked you would also need Quicktime Pro (payware).
Or, I think HandBrake can do it. Just Google "HandBrake" and it should come up first.

Anyway, I think with Handbrake you'll also encounter the codec issue. At least my older version of Handbrake won't open WMV, nor will it even open mp3 audio alone.
