WAV files on an iWeb site -- is it possible to have these?

Hi everyone,
I've just created a new site with numerous audio files on it. It would seem at this point that MP3s/Quicktime are a pretty universal format, but a number of people have told me they can't open/run the audio for one reason or another.
I'm wondering if it's possible to have have WAV files (probably compressed) on an iWeb site. I haven't really tried this yet, but it seems to me iTunes converts all audio automatically to an MP3/Quicktime format. In any case, I think it would be good to cater to the viewers who are on PCs. Any suggestions for a solution? You can view my site at: http://www.charlottemcmillan.com
Thanks!
MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thanks for checking out the problem. Actually, one
user does have Quicktime, but got a message
concerning "MIME" instructions
Last I checked, windows don't use MIME type:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME
Even Apple had departed from using MIME type (AFAIK, OS9 truly use MIME, OSX???). So, I don't know what to make that.
-- the jist of it
being that his machine ordinarily uses something
other than QT to open audio files, so the message
asked him if he wanted to use QT to open all audio
files from that point on. That kind of scared him
away from saying yes, so he didn't get to hear my
audio files.
That's correct, WMP is the default media player in windows platform, so I don't blame him from freaking out.
It comes down to have a windows machine with QT properly installed and have QT to be file extension associated (not MIME) for media contents.
He is out of luck if he want to keep WMP as his default media player.

  • How to upload file to MobileMe iweb site?

I take care of 2 websites, 1 is on a server that i upload to using Fetch (I publish this site to a folder first).
The other is on MobileMe: it's actually the 'same' site, just a satellite site where we keep large files like photos and video clips. I have a link on the base site to this one.
It takes a very loooooonnnnggggg time to publish the MobileMe site.
I'm trying to add a new photo page to the album (it has 5 70mb or so size videos on it) and it's taken several hours already and isn't done. I checked 15 minutes ago and the page wasn't there, and I tried to quit iWeb and got the message that it was uploading and this might cause a problem so of course I cancelled quitting.
Now, as i started this post, I checked iweb and there was this error message:
+An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/kt/ktNPDfjLFuO2qrZr6xwH3E+TI/TemporaryItems/
    com.apple.iWeb3004_TEMP_291689846_2/sites/St_James_theAssiniboine/
    MusicMinistry/Pages/Fundraising_Concert,_March_2010files/Media/
Grahams 3-mobile/mobile.m4v”. Try publishing again later.+
This isn't the first time i've had this problem. (Note: Prior to publishing the site, I got the 'error config ... try connecting later' message and did the System Pref trick of logging out and re-logging in as test ... which worked)
So is there a way that i can upload the movies to MobileMe myself? there is an upload button but it won't do anything when I click on it.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

Did you ever figure this out? I, too, have wanted to upload many html files to my mobile me account, which is my domain name. (And another I do for SDAEOP.) I don't want to have to redo 64 html files, but would rather just point to the proper URL. My problem was I uploaded the entire folder to the Home / Web / Sites / SDAEOP (and the folder name I uploaded with all the stuff was sdaeop4. However, when I fixed the link of the first page that points everything to the sdaeop4 folder, and published it in iWeb, it wiped out the entire folder!!! It's about 64 mb and my internet isn't that fast, so had to upload again, to my Documents, this time. But, I can't figure out what to make the link. I thought it should be http://www.sdaeop.com/Sites/sdaeop4/strawberriesoflife.html (which actually turns into this: http://www.sdaeop.com/Sites/sdaeop4/strawberries%20of%20life.html). but, it says it's not found. I'm not sure how to make the link correct. Maybe I leave off the sites? I'll have to login to my other account where I keep that domain file and see if that works. If you have any info, please advise.
    Thanks!

  • Trying to send all Files from an iweb site via email

I want to know if it is possible to send a whole iweb site that is saved and only published to a folder, to another person via email.
I have tried attaching the HTML. index site to an email and the text does appear but I am looking for a way to send all of the files i have form one site in an attachment if this is possible??
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If the total size of the published site folder and index.html file is under 2 GB you can use DropBox to transfer the published site or the domain.sites2 file as Ethmoid suggested. See #21 - Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs with Dropbox. It will work for any type of file for transfer. Just set it up like in the tutorial and either add the domain file or the published site file. It works across platforms. And it's free if you keep it under 2GB.

  • Flash files in iWeb site hosted by Godaddy?

Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
I'm trying to see how to use a few .swf files (flash) in my site which I built and maintain with iWeb.
I had set them up back in the .mac days and they were able to work. When .mac ended, I switched the hosting to Dropbox which worked fine (though a little slow) but I guess I hadn't checked those .swf animations. When I was preparing to move the site to GoDaddy recently, the animations weren't working.
My site is now up and running on GoDaddy and I'd like to get those animations working. I've googled/searched for information, but all the info seems to be about using idisk or .mac. Since those no longer exist, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
    Thanks!

Upload the files in a folder to the root folder on the server using an FTP app. This page is about audio files but it's the same method for flash...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/AudioFiles/Upload.html
Then reference each file in an iframe code. See this page for more info...

  • How to copy iWeb blog to new iWeb site?

    Hi Folks,
I am able to successfully move, via drag and drop, my blog from an old iWeb site to a new one in iWeb.
However, what I want to do is to preserve the old blog as a backup, and them start updating and chagging the blog contet in the new iWeb site. I actually use the blog on my site as a way to list courses.
I've tried to copy files in the iWeb site files, and then reopen iWeb, and I can't see the blog page listed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

To be able to drop and drag from one site to another in iWeb, you firstly need to have iWeb 09.  You then need to open the relevant domain.sites file and you need to have the sites underneath each other, so Site1 above and then Site2 below and all you do is just click on the Blog page on Site1 and just drag it over and down to Site2.
You can't do it individually, but you need to drag from one site to another.
I would also advise that you don't use the iWeb blog, as it is not that good and there are better alternatives out there.
You might like to look at some new software too such as EverWeb - http://www.everwebapp.com.  It is very like iWeb, but is actively supported and developed whereas for the last 2 years, iWeb has not been and has not been sold by Apple either.
If you wanted a better blogging system, you could transfer your whole website into WordPress.org.  You need to install it on a server at your web host, but it might serve you better and you can create a blog it you want to and you can extend it with the use of plugins.  Would not take too long to re-create depending on the size of your site and it is relatively easy to use compared to the other CMS's.
Think about changing before iWeb becomes unusable.

  • Is it possible to view an iWeb site locally in a browser without an internet connection?

I am trying to find out if an iWeb site could be viewed in a local computer kiosk environment.  I know that you can export your files, but are iWeb site files "self-supporting" in a browseer or do they require a connection to the internet to be viewed properly?

iWeb is an application to create simp,e straitforward webpages with.
The pages are published to a folder called a  site.
Every page is selfcontained, with the exception of the photoalbums, which need a few files from the Apple Server.
In general pages are best served thru a webserver, but the pages can also be opened as a file on the desktop and they will display properly.
You can easily verify it by looking at webpages and see what files they use.
Here are some sites where you can see the file/folder structure :
         http://www.wuala.com/Maaskant
         http://www.wuala.com/Cafenoir
         http://www.wuala.com/Stellar
To see the webpages click on the index.html file.
BTW, Wuala is an alternative to DropBox. Safer too. No Government agents have acces to private files.
    Wuala protects your privacy.
All files are directly encrypted on your desktop. Your password never leaves your computer. Not even we as the provider can access your files or your password.

  • PAID WORK:  Any One Want (iWeb) Site Development Work?

I'm searching – and I'm happy to pay - for a web design person who can make two changes to my iWeb site.
If any one out there knows a good (iWeb) website developer – or if you yourself are one – I’d like to hire someone who can add pull down menus and a Flash file to my iWeb site.
Please contact me at this e mail address: [email protected]
My site needs two modifications: first – and I’m not even sure if this is possible on iWeb – add (what I believe are called) “jump pull down menus” - professional looking pull down menus used as navigation tabs. They jump to the appropriate page when you pull down and click.
The second item is a single Flash animation that I want to add to my home page.
I don’t have the time to learn the skills and code to implement the pull down menus and Flash file. (I do own Flash and so, that part won’t be a problem.)
Here's my main site: www.PeterSolon.com. (If that one is down, go to www.PSolon.com). The jump menus would replace my navigation tabs and the Flash movie would involve an animation of the starburst.
For whatever it's worth, my sites are not money makers – they’re a labor of love – online journals for people who are into A Course In Miracles - the model that I teach.
    Thank you very much.

    hover over the main menus.
are you doing the flash file? implementing is easy!

  • I'm totally confused now re my iweb site

Ok, let me start of by saying that I'm new to mac and not very computer savy to start off with. I created my iweb site www.kristenelardophotography.com and have it hosted with my .mac acct. I got my domain name from godaddy and was able to do the domain fowarding and masking. HOWEVER, somewhere during all this I have an error or 2. Here are the areas I'm having trouble with.
When you click on the different options on my website to go to different pages the address bar info never changes from the www.kristenelardophotography.com . I know from looking at others sites that it should change to www.kristenelardophotography.com/portfolio.html (or something similar) however mine doesn't.
Another issue, in iweb when I click "visit" it takes me to www.kristenelardophotography/kristenelardophoto and its a blank white page. However if I type in my web address everything is fine.
Issue 3 which I think I need to fix the other issues first before I can touch this one. I'm trying to get added to google. I set up my acct there and when I try to verify it I get this error........We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header. I downloaded imap and I'm putting the google verification number into that.
I'd really be greatfull if anyone can help me with any of the above problems.
    Thank you!!
    Kristen

    the masking did that.
look into "cname". that's what you actually want, but if you remove the masking you will see the web.mac addressing
    Actually it does look ok.
I had to make sure my browser was wide enough to see the whole address due to it's length.

  • How can I join 2 .wav files?

I need to join 2 short .wav files for a web site.
How do I do it and what do I need.
    thanks for any help.

WAV can hold audio in both compressed and uncompressed format. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV] The optimal way for joining the files will depend upon the format of the audio format contained in the WAV and the format of the output desired. For general audio I'd go with an audio editor such as Audacity or Amadeus Pro. There are also [scripts for itunes|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/jointogether.php] that do this kind of thing, though more restricted in output. If the audio content is mp3 compressed you can use an editor such as MP3 Trimmer to do this without recoding the audio which results in better quality.

  • General inquiry - Why ar .Mac and publishing/accessing iWeb sites so slow??

    Greetings,
I do realize that that general topic has been addressed somehow many times, in whole or in parts. I am just shooting for a general update on the subject(s).
I have grown fond of iWeb and just renewed my .Mac subscription. I am also a user of Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I just find the iWeb/.Mac combination so straight forward and... irresistible fun to play with!
BUT, before i commit more to that environment, I need to know - again:
    1. Why is .Mac/iDisk so slow in access?
    2. Correspondingly, publishing to .Mac and iDisk is slow. Why, actually?
    3. Difficulties in accessing iWeb sites published to .Mac/iDisk when using InternetExplorer (which, whether we want it or not, IS the predominant browser out there...). We know Firefox is better at it.
    4. Ultimately, would publishing iWeb sites to other servers (I have a couple of non-iWeb websites currently hosted elsewhere) make publishing AND accessing such sites speedier?
I will appreciate any advice, input, assessment.
    - Roger T

I think it's because it's more a social server with a lot of server side features available for .Mac users and iLife applications. Therefore there's a fair amount of server work when users use it for email, web sites with slideshows, backing up, etc. A commercial server will be much faster. There are othesr here that know more about servers than I and can give you a more technical explanation. But you're right, it is slow but convenient.

  • Exporting Audition .wav files for ProTools correctly????

I'm currently using Audition 3.0, recording multiple live tracks (around 20 instruments at one time) in multitrack mode. While thes e tracks are recording live, Audition is creating the .wav files (source files) in a specified folder....correct?  Now, I've recorded/captured the audio/wav files for the project, and I now want to export these .wav/source files onto a portable hard drive and load (import) them into ProTools for final mixdowns. What are the correct steps in exporting the Audition .wav files, in the right ProTools format, so that ProTools will recognize them properly and open in a PT session?
I found a post on your forum about this saying:
"Audition will export files directly in PT's restricted 24-bit format as well if needed (Audition's norm is 32-bit floating point)."
I have another person doing our mixdown using ProTools, if you're wondering why I'm asking this and not using Audition for the mixdo wn.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from somebody on how to do this.

You can easily use Audition's "Batch Processing" tool to convert your 32-bit source files to a ProTools compatible 24-bit format.  Switch to "Edit View" and click File > Batch Processing...  In the dialog that comes up, click the "Add Files" button and select the WAV files recorded for your session.  (These files will be in a subfolder of where you saved the original session, named "<session name>_Recorded"  For example, if you created your session in \My Documents\Adobe\Audition\3.0\My Session\  the recordings will be stored in \My Documents\Adobe\Audition\3.0\My Session\My Session_Recorded\ )
After the files are loaded, click the "New Format" tab and set the Output Format to "Windows PCM (*.WAV)" then click the Format Properties button and choose "24-bit packed int (type 1, 24-bit)"  and click OK.  Click the "Destination" tab and choose a folder to collect the new files, and click "Run Batch."
After the conversion process has completed, you should be able to send those files to your ProTools engineer for mixing.

  • How to generate .wav files from sound pressure data

    Hi,
I have sound pressure data (as dB values) vs frequency data.
How can I create a playable .wav file based on above?
Note: I do NOT have sound pressure vs time data
I am working in LV 7.1 FDS on Win2000.
If really required, I can incorporate VIs from sound and vibration toolkit (version 1.0).
However, I would prefer a solution that does not need me to do that.
    Thanks in anticipation,

    All,
With some help from NI-India, we managed to build a nice sound player and .wav saving utility.
I have attached the VI sent by NI-India. The key component which was missing in my VI was "resample waveform".
Note: For some reason, I could not use the attached VI to generate sound but did use the concept to succesfully read my sound pressure data and output it to the speaker (and also save it as .wav file tha can be played on Windows Media Player). Also note that I am now generating sound from sound pressure vs time data. I have not tried generating sound from sound pressure vs frequency data.
I would love to have the following answered:
    1) What data does the sound write VI expect? Is it Sound Pressure values? What units (N/m2 or dB or dBA)? I think it expects sound pressure data and the units are not relevant. Reason being my next question.
    2) I found that until I mutliply the sound pressure data by a very large number say 10e7, the sound is hardly audible (even when volume was programmatically set to max. i.e. 65535). The sound QUALITY does not change when I change this multiplier.
2.a) Does that mean its only the relative difference between wave data points that affects sound quality? If yes, then I believe the sound pressure data can be in any units.
2.b) Is it expected to use this huge multiplier OR did I do something without really knowing what it meant?
    Thanks,
    Gurdas

  • Is it possible to have cs5 Bridge open cs4 ai files actually in cs4 rather than opening them in cs5

I recently upgraded from mac cs4 to cs5.5. Due to a bug? with cs5 ai illustrator 'Pixel Preview' won't show 1 bit tiff files as it did in cs4 (the workaround is time consuming/wasting). This is a problem for me as most of my files contain them, GGrrrr. Is it possible to have cs5 Bridge open cs4 ai files actually in cs4 rather than opening them in cs5?

Is it possible to have cs5 Bridge open cs4 ai files actually in cs4 rather than opening them in cs5?
Yes, either set the file type association in Bridge prefs for 'ai' at CS4. But it seems somewhat difficult when having newer versions, sometimes whatever pref settings in Bridge or Finder/get info/ open with/you try it keeps opening in the latest version.
In that case either drag and drop the files on the CS4 icon in the dock or with right click mouse menu choose open with and select illustrator CS4.
Although you can only have one version of Bridge open at the time you can have the other suite applications from different version open at the same time.
