Waveform Cache Files.  Delete?

What exactly are waveform cache files and can I delete them without worrying about screwing something up?

I guess the only thing you should never delete is your capture scratch? Everything else can be trashed?<<</div>
Even your captures can be trashed .... AFTER you've finished and delivered the final project and the client has accepted it.
I usually only permanently keep project files and any graphics I created for the project. Everything else gets tossed.

  • Can't Open Final Cut - "Waveform Cache Files Folder does not have read/....

I am new to Final Cut and macs, so please bear with me.
I have created an animation in Final Cut pro (5) using stills. The project takes up a lot of space, which is why I have moved the 'Final Cut Documents' file onto my external hard drive. However, I relocated/reconnected the project files when I next opened the project and all was peachy.
Last night when I had the project open I got errors about not being able to save the project. This was my first problem, but is now insignificant compared to this new problem this morning:
I cannot open Final Cut. I have an error saying 'The Waveform Cache Files Folder does not have read/write access. Please select a new folder in the System Settings Dialog or correct the problem on disk'. Final Cut then proceeds to shut down, so I cannot change any user settings within the program.
I have made all Final Cut folders read/write as well as my external hard drive and anything else with Final Cut on it. It still presents this warning.
A final confession: last night in (I think?) User Preferences I changed some of the settings to my external hard drive (I'm not even sure what settings...I just checked boxes next to the Hard Drive and unchecked a box next to the laptop drive), hoping it would just save the project to it, rather than on my laptop. This may have contributed to this new problem...maybe not.
PLEASE HELP...this animation is due Monday.

Thanks for your reply - it sounds like it will work, but I can't delete one of (yes, I made multiple copies, but have been able to delete the others) the Waveform Cache Folders as it comes up with the error "The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (Error code -43)." Is this the cause of my problems? How do I fix it?

  • Waveform cache files

    Hi everybody,
What exactly is a waveform cache file and can I open these in final cut pro? The reason I ask this is because I have managed to loose some Quick time audio files which I now need. I have managed to find the old waveform cache files and was wondering if there is any way of using these to save the files? Not really holding up much hope but though it was worth a try.
    Thanks
    Sara

    Hi
The waveform cache files do not contain actual audio but data about the waveform as displayed in the Sequence timeline in FCP.
I'm afraid they will not bring back your audio for you.

    Jim

  • Problems with non-existent waveform cache...

    I previously posted this:
+I cannot open Final Cut. I have an error saying 'The Waveform Cache Files Folder does not have read/write access. Please select a new folder in the System Settings Dialog or correct the problem on disk'. Final Cut then proceeds to shut down, so I cannot change any user settings within the program.+
+I have made all Final Cut folders read/write as well as my external hard drive and anything else with Final Cut on it. It still presents this warning.+
And was replied to with this:
+Delete the Waveform Cache Files folder in the Finder.+
+Open Final Cut Pro by clicking the FCP application icon -not by opening a project.+
+In the Menu bar click on Final Cut Pro > System Settings. Reset the loction of your Waveform Cache Files folder. The folder will be re-created in the directory that you choose.+
So, I have deleted all the waveform cache files.
I copied the Final Cut Pro Documents file onto my hard drive and deleted the original from my laptop. Last night all was running fine.
This morning I have the same warning as earlier:
"The waveform cache file does not have read/write access."
There IS no waveform cache file? I've done searches on both my hard drive and the external hard drive and all that remains are the invisible outlines of the files I deleted last night.
    ???

P.S. I still have my Final Cut Pro project file (which I am desperately praying is my saving grace) but I can't find other associated files.

  • Hidden cache files (imovie) - lost 60gb memory - can you help me recover?

Ok so here is my problem.  Using the Panasonic GH2 for filming and decided to import the .mov files to my external drives via imovie, easy right?  Over the period of some 800gb of imports I slowly lost 60+ gb of drive space that I have not been able to recover and am now in dire need of deleting as I am down to zero drive space on my main drive.
    What I have done:
Pulled and deleted all imovie cache files (i.e. user/movies/imovie...etc.)
    Deleted a my .plist
    Deleted all user cache files
Deleted imovie files from iphoto library
There are probably other items I am leaving out, but I have gone to great lengths to fine this cache of thumbnails or some strange hidden series of files that imovie produces for back up or something.  Need help here.
Can someone tell me what other measures I should consider for recovering this lost space???
    Thanks a million!

    EUREKA!!!
I don't know how old this post is but I hope this will be helpful for anyone who stumbles around here.
So, I had the same issue with phantom memory being guzzled up by some unknown videos that I could not find and iMovie was the culprit. So with that being said, the short answer that will most probably fix this is to delete your projects. Even if you erased the clips that you used, the program seems to keep the cache and encrypting, etc of every video you made with these projects. For me, I only had 2 projects on the mac and I kept deleting the clips and adding new ones. 1 of them I was using for months and it had 100 GB of data stored within that 1 project!!
I know that this may be a pain since you lose your format if you make videos regularly but unfortunately, this is the only way that I found to delete this dead space. The better fix would be to know how to get rid of the dead data without deleting the projects. My movies are usually very small and have a simple format so it doesn't bother me much to have to delete my project after I make my clips.
Another thing, the clips you import to iMovie stay in a semi-hidden area and it keeps ALL your clips there. You can find these clips by going to File - Reveal in Event. You can also go to Reveal in Finder as well but they are the same clips so you only need to delete them from 1 of these 2 areas.
If this option is grayed out, go to All Events first, select the event(s) and then see if the option is now available.
    I hope this helps!

  • Waveform cache, thumbnail cache and autosave vault

Sorry but I still have a couple more questions.
Should i be moving the waveform cache, thumbnail cache and autosave vault over to external hard drive with the media? And where and how are the project files stored on my internal system drive? Just trying to organize the location of everything before I go any farther!

Hey digginin to my Mac. I am where you were a bit ago, and I think I understand your question about where to set those cache files, and I am a little unclear on this as well.
I am probably making a mountain of a mole hill, but I believe you are talking about that bit at the bottom of the window of the Scratch Disc pane of the System settings. I am working my way through Tom Wolsky, and he seems to say to set those three things (waveform cache, thumbnail cache and autosave vault) to go to the external. It's a bit unclear to me though. I currently have them set for my documents folder on my MBP. And in my documents folder is a folder called "Final Cut Express Documents" in which are six folders (Audio Render Files, Autosave Vault, Capture Scratch, Render Files, Thumbnail Cache Files, Waveform Cache Files). I set up a scratch disk, and captured some video to it. It currently has those same six folders. Everything okay so far?
I have just set up another scratch disk, which will actually be my main scratch disk, and will be used for a pretty big project involved many hours of video. I haven't captured any video to that yet. It only has three files (Capture Scratch, Audio Render Files, and Render Files). I guess the other three get created when I capture some video to it. And I guess I can select that particular scratch disk when I go to capture the video.
Am I in the ballpark over here? Thanks in a advance.

  • Remove caches file's automatically if you delete a folder from your drive???

    Gday,
First off all sorry for my poor/bad English.
When i remove/delete a folder in bridge, where will by the cache file of this folder??
Does it also Remove/delete automatically, ????
Or should I in the preferences box, tick on the (automatically Export Cache to folders when possible) option???
    Already many Thanks,
    Henry

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.
If you want to delete all backups of a selected item, such as for space or security reasons, see #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library

is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library ?

As I understand it Robo doesn't really 'do' third-party
source control. We use SourceGear Vault, but really only as a
repository for the files. We can't really work concurrently because
Robo needs exclusive access to the top level project files. But it
kind of works for us, because we're on opposite sides of the globe.
I see what you're saying on the 'local' versions of (say) the
cpd files conflicting. If anyone else has an informed view, I'm all
ears. We've set it up this way ourselves - I don't know of anyone
doing the same. If someone tells me this is a bad idea, I'm happy
    to think again.
    Cheers!

  • Can all QuickTime cache files be safely deleted?

I'm getting really short of hard disk space on my 12-inch Power Book G4, and I noticed that nearly 4 GB of space is occupied by QuickTime download cache files in my user library. I don't know of any Application that I can use to identify all these files individually. As I understand how cache files work, they simply speed up the launching or opening of the source files; and the only consequence of deleting them is a longer wait the next time I launch any of those files. I'm also speculating that 75 percent of these cache files pertain to QT downloads that I have long ago archived or trashed. But the other 25 percent are linked to some very important videos. Is there a way to identify what's what? Or is it simply safe enough to trash them all, without losing those important original videos?
Thanks for any comments you can provide.

You could move files from the PBook to another Mac to save space also, if your Macs are networked is one way or Firewire Target Disk Mode another. I have the 60GB PBookG4 and I do that all the time to save space on that drive.

  • Can I delete adobe/common/media cache files?

I've a seriously shrinking hard disk.  Have found 20 gig of data in my Home/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache Files.
Am I right in assuming I can safely delete these files and if I need them again, all apps that created them (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro etc) will just rebuild them?

I recommend you to use specific software like Onyx or CleanMyMac to delete cache files. These programs aren't perfect, but it's very difficult to have a problem with them.

  • "Media Cache Files" is a huge folder - is it necessary data or temporary data that I could delete?

My folder "Media Cache Files" (found in: profiles > appdata > roaming > adobe > common > media cache files) is currently over 200 GB big and I was wondering whether all of this data is necessary for my projects (or for anything else?) or whether it is temporary data that I can delete without causing any problems for my saved projects or the programme itself? Does anybody know? Thanks in advance!!!

Mylenium, Thanks for your immediate reply! This helps me a lot! ... and my laptop will be oh so happy to have less GB.

I went in and deleted Cached files after repeatedly getting the 'scratch disks are full' message.  I have done this before and have had no issues.  However, this time it comes up with a crash message whenever I open Premiere Pro 6.  All other Adobe programs are working fine.

If you have a 64bit Windows adding more ram will allow Windows to use that ram, and provide more to CS4

Can I safely delete Cache files?

Yes. But why they are there to help increase the speed of your Mac

  • Can i delete iMovie cache files

Is it OK to delete files or do I still need on 2nd hardrive when I back up

In principle it is always possible to delete cache files and it is never necessary to back them up - However, I would not advise touching them unless you are clearly running out of disk space (in which case you probably don't have eneough space for imovie to work well).
Precisely which files you you propose to delete?
