Waveform disappears in Timeline.

Why does waveform disappear in the timeline? Can't use automation because i have no timeline reference for peaks and transients. Tried reloading track and re-adding audio from the bin. Using logic exp 9. Thanks for your help.

This sounds buggy, try rebuilding your preferences.

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • On fcp6 - all of a sudden my titles and images disappear when timeline stops. Can't edit or see titles.

titles and stills work fine in playback, but disappear when timeline stops. Can't edit titles. Can't find how to bring things back. restarted FCP and Mac.

Second image shows outline of title over background image.  All images are .jpg finished in Photoshop as I normally do.  They worked fine during the first half hour of editing.

  • Layer disappeared from timeline

I'm creating some banners with Edge Animate for the first time.
I started with the biggest one, now I need to create some more downscaled versions.
Clearly the easiest and fastes way is to duplicate the edge project and modify the layers size position etc...
Duplicating the project folder and changing the file name didn't work for me (gave error "edge can't read the html file"), so I managed to do it with "save as" and changing the "project1.an" name to a new one in a clean folder. When opened, Edge creates all the assets referencing the new name.
Everything  ok until here, but then I noticed that the top layer "link" (it was a hidden clickable div with the banner link) has disappeared from timeline, but it's still present in the "elements" tab.
The link was still working, then after a couple of cmd+return it disappeared also from the stage.
I created a new rectangular div with the tool, but the new one is also not present in the timeline but only in the "elements" tab.
Now I'm worried that this could cause problems on publishing or future edits. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

Never mind, after this post I already found the answer.
I had checked without noticing the button at the bottom of timeline "Only Show Animated Elements".
Unchecking all the layers were there.
Hope this can help if anyone has accidentally the same problem!

  • Why can't I see audio waveforms on my timeline?

    Hi,
I was just upgraded to CS6 Production Premium from CS5 and I can't see any audio waveforms on my timeline in Premiere Pro. Is there some setting I need to change?
    Thanks.
    S.

    There's no setting for this.
Have you waited for all media to finish conforming?

I can't see the Audio Waveforms in the timeline. No triangle button to click. Just switched from FCP. Help!

When I click on the wrench or right click to customize the box, these are the options I'm given.  I don't see waveform.  I've edited in Adobe Audition for years, and see the waveform panels in all the Premiere Pro tutorials, am I missing something?  (besides a brain?)

  • Can you 'zoom' the audio waveform in the timeline?

Unable to find a solution in the help or the FAQ, so I'll post my first question here :-)
I would like to vertically zoom into the audio waveform in the timeline. My situation is that I have a 24-bit audio mix of a classical concert with a fairly large dynamic range, i.e. very loud bits and very quiet bits in one single audio file. I don't see enough waveform detail in the quiet parts, even when I enlarge the track vertically. I haven't found an official way of zooming in, at least in the timeline. The audio-waveform-only display in the source monitor does offer a vertical zoom.
The official help only offers this:
"To see more volume detail when viewing an audio waveform in a Timeline panel, increase the track height."
Which seems to imply that 'zooming' in further to bring out the really quiet parts is not a feature.
I found a bit of a workaround, which is to adjust the clip gain -- the audio waveform changes accordingly. However I'd prefer not to be changing the audio volume every time I need a different vertical zoom on the waveform.
    Thanks,
    3p

While you can't zoom and the vertical adjustment is limited (which sucks because you can zoom in Audition)` there are still a few more options that might help increase the vertical size of the tracks window.
First, to adjust the vertical space of each track in the timeline place your selection tool over the line between the tracks over on the left side of the track where audio controls are and drag the track bottom up or down. You can also increase the workspace of the timeline by dragging it up using the same technique, or if you have another monitor put the timeline over there and make it much bigger.
Second, use the tilde key to expand the entire timeline window. It's the key to the left of #1 key at the top left. Hit it again to return. It will expand any window that is selected. I use this one to get a better look at the waveform. You can also drag the tracks to make them larger.
    good luck!

  • The sound (aiff 48 Khz 16 b) disappears in timeline.

The sound disappears in timeline. But in the event there is left. What is wrong? When I play another project, nothing is wrong. FCP X 10.0.4. Lion

Hi Adam. The problem has been dissolved. Compound Clip name issue. But you solved another problem for me. I've been looking for the function to convert from Sorrund Sound to Stereo. You helped me! Thanks for that. Ps/ Nice picture! /Ds

  • See only one (single channel) audio waveform in the timeline

Hi, is it possible to see only one waveform in the timeline for a stereo audio file? By default you see one waveform per channel. In many cases those channels are almost the same. I would like to see mixed or only channel in the timeline to save some space and remove clutter from my screen. Thanks

I don't think this is possible.

  • Audio  waveform image in timeline

Other than in the preferences, is there a shortcut for turning off the audio waveform in the timeline?

Create a button that you can place in the timeline.
    or Press Option-Command-W.
or Choose Show Audio Waveforms from the Track Layout pop-up menu in the Timeline.

  • Waveforms flickering in timeline

When I have waveforms visible in the timeline, any time I play or pause, or make an edit, anything at all, the waveform will briefly flicker off and on.
    Sample showing what I mean
This is an infuriating problem. If every single interaction with the timeline causes a visual error, then editing quickly becomes a painful chore. I can't concentrate on what I'm doing because there is a huge distraction going on where I'm supposed to be doing my work.
I've looked around help forums and can't find any details on this, does anyone else have this problem?

  • Waveforms disappeared

On previously created projects, the audio waveforms are not displaying in the timeline or viewer. I recently migrated from a G5 to a Mac Pro, then I reinstalled FCP studio but the problem persists. However certain projects and certain media seem fine, BIZARRE!

Forgot to mention that I can solve the problem temporarily by deleting the waveform cache but it comes back next time I open the problem.
Ah, some small progress. Wish I knew more about FCP's caching routines but I do know that most caching processes are based on the OS, not necessarily on the application. The call from FCP to empty the cache is apparently being superceded by the OS's desire to maintain it. This can be a permissions issue: a conflict between the permissions granted to the folder by the system.
You know that indecipherable display of Ownership Permissions in the Get Info window? There are dozens of users assigned by the MacOS and if you've got the wrong one on that cache folder, FCP will not be able to talk to it as expected. This cannot be fixed with a simple Repair Permissions routine. Has to be tweaked by hand.
It's a longshot but I've seen weirder things at the permissions level, especially on Macs with multiple user accounts and especially on Macs where the other users have tried to alter settings on shared folders.

  • Audio disappears in timeline

After laying in clips to timeline, sometimes audio tracks turn a copper color (see pic) and no longer play audio. Sometimes they appear normal, but no audio after export. (All audio tracks are turned on). It seems to happen more frequently after copying and pasting a sequence from one project into another. Any help would be much appreciated.

The "disappearing Audio" does seem to happen with a Copy/Paste operation, but it does seem to random - sometimes working, but not always.
Have you tried Selecting a problem Clip, placing the CTI/Playhead over that Clip, and doing a Match Frame operation? That used to fix things, when the Audio became lost.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

i have final cut studio 3, on new mac laptop.
i've been putting all this flip video on its own sequence, and some clips do not give me problem,
