Waveform Problem and Input Level problem with Onyx 1620

I was reading an earlier post and saw that someone was having trouble with the gray boxes for the loops as compared with GB. I am also having that problem, but with my actual recordings. Is there a way to show the waveform instead of the gray box on the main screen?
Also i've had another problem with my Onyx 160 firewire mixer. It seems that i have to turn the trim at least 3/4s or higher to get just a small read in Logic Express. I have the input on the computer turned all the way up and it still hasn't changed anything. I also used the main gain on the firewire card and turned it all the way up, but still no change. Does anyone have any experience using the Onyx with Logic? Could you give me some tips?

Hey Matt,
welcome to the forum!
Well it seems that you've seen the question but not the answer. :o)
Import the audio from the audio menu>import audio file, instead of the import from the file menu.
About the Onyx, I don't have a clue.
best regards,

  • Problems with Onyx

    I downloaded Onyx but incorrectly downloaded the Tiger version rather than Panther for my OS X 10.3.9. I tried to then use the Uninstall but is said it didn't work with my OS X so I dragged the files to Trash and deleted them. I then tried to install the correct version of Onyx but it tells me I already have a newer version installed on my hard drive. I also seem to have problems with iTunes crashing and I wonder if they are related? Any ideas how to remove Onyx? I have reviewed the Onyx website and emailed the developer. Thanks.

    Thanks for that. I don't have a file in
    Library/Receipts (other than relating to Adobe). I
    tried reinstalling Onyx (for Panther) again and I get
    to the same point in the installation - where I
    choose the HD as the volume to install, it doesn't
    allow me because there is already a newer version!?
    have a look in ~/Library/Receipts/... or /Library/Receipts/...
    try the onxy uninstaller <http://www.titanium.free.fr/dl/Uninstall-OnyX.zip>
    good luck

  • Guitar input level low with lexicon alpha

    I just started with garage band today.  I am using a lexicon alpha usb interface and seems to be working fine, or at least I think it is.
    When I am playing my electric guitar through the lexicon garageband picks it up well as long as I use one of the preset amplifier/pedal combos that are provided.  When I try to directly input the guitar using "real instrument" the line level seems really low.  I have to max out the volume pot on the guitar to get a low level signal in garageband.  Clipping will never be an issue as is.
    I know that with my microphones I need to have a seperate phantom power supply.  Bought it.  With my electric guitar, I am sort of a tone freak and like to mess with the volume pot to clean up the sound.  I cannot do that as is. Everything is wide open to get the signal into garageband.  Am I supposed to be using a power supply to boost the guitar signal into the lexicon?
    Thanks in advance.  Love the potential, I just have to work through details.

    Thanks guys.  To answer a few of your points:
    I am using a Fender Strat with Big Dipper pickups.
    The line 1/Inst pot is turned all the way up.
    The phantom power thing was sort of worded poorly.  I know it would not work for a guitar but I meant that perhaps I needed to boost my original guitar signal somehow so it would pick up louder.
    I guess I could just mic my amp.  It doesn't seem like I should have to though.
    The rockman...I looked it up and it looks like a headphone practice tool.  Is it for usb connections to garageband?
    No, it's a guitar preamp, analog out from the headphone jack to your interface of choice, just go to a guitar store and try one.

  • How can I make waveform graph and/or excel file with two different dynamic DBL values?

    As the question describes, I have two dbl sources from a load cell and linear actuator (from firgelli). I want to make a load/displacement curve from the force readings from the load cell and the displacement readings from the linear actuator. The load cell outputs an analog signal that can be acquired by a DAQ and the actuator comes in with a board and VI program to control the speed and measure the displacement of the actuator to a sample rate of my choosing. Is there a way that I can make a VI where it continues to collect data and construct the graph I'm looking for?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    A couple points about your application:
    1.  Synchronization.  Since you're ultimate goal is a stress/strain curve, it is vital that your force and displacement data be synchronized appropriately.  If your sampling is beyond a few times a second, this is not really possible without some form of hardware synchronization via either a trigger and/or sample clock.  Two NI DAQ boards can be synchronized this way easily, but it seems you're using 3rd party hardware for one of these processes.  Would need to know more about that board to know what options you have.  You could specify what your resolution is in distance, and how fast the article will be moving, to get an idea of how fast to acquire, and how well you'll need to synchronize the data.  Another option, since it appears each data stream will be sampled on a hardware-timed sample clock, they will be offset in time, but not skewed during the acquisition.  You may be able to identify a feature in the data set common to each and use that to remove the timing offset after the process is completed.
    2.  Display.  To display data during the acquisition process, I usually recommend at least one display that plots vs. time.  Much easier to spot irregularities with the acquisition process that way.  However, if you'd like to also plot force vs. displacement, you can use an XY Graph to plot parametrically. For Example, in your case you would use the Displacement data as the X coordinates, and the Force data as the Y coordinates.
    3.  Saving data to file.  I would recommend using the Save to Spreadsheet File.vi (File IO pallette) to save your data.  If you use a comma as the delimiter, and save the file with a *.csv extension, you will have a file that is easily read into excel.  The standard tab-delimited spreadsheet file is also fine, it will just require an extra step to read it into excel to specify to excel what the delimiter is.
    4.  Batch vs. Real-Time Recording (Data File).  If your process is short (< 30 sec) you may be better off acquiring the data, Storing it locally to the VI (Array - usually maintained in a shift register), and then writing the file with a header (acquisition parameters, test article information, data column headers) and the data all at once in batch mode to the file after the process is finished.  If, however, it is longer than that you would be better off starting a data file with a header and appending the data to the file as you go, so that if something happens during your test, you at least have data up to that point.
    Hope this Helps,

  • Unable to fix Safari 3.2.1 Problems with OnyX

    Based upon several forum comments about benefits of using OnyX, I tried to use this application to correct Safari problems. Specifically, Safari crashes often; it stalls while opening additional tabs; it indicates slow scripts in process; and, generally it forgets to save userids and passwords despite preference settings. Our Hawaiian contributor suggests using OnyX for problems like these, so I tried it. These challenges exist: with automation selected and *only one block checked* [maintenance: maintenance scripts], the application stalls out. I've waited as long as 20 minutes with no movement in the progress bar beyond the first third of it or so. Please advise how to set and use OnyX for Mac OS 10.4.11 if that's the problem. If not, please suggest means to correct the Safari problems. Thanks.

    Hi again;
    re: <maintenance scripts (??)>
    There are daily, weekly and monthly maintenance scripts built-in to OSX which automatically run in the middle of the night if you leave you Mac on. Onyx, Cocktail, Applejack, etc. provide easier to use front ends to run those scripts which clean logs, caches, etc.. I think Applejack can probe and clean a bit deeper than the other two, but I'm really not sure. Have only read where it will often fix things that other utilities might not. Can't say that I can make anything of any logs it creates either. Basic test is if your machine runs and feels 'well' after (Safari troubles not withstanding). The point of these are to ensure that your system is kept in good order. I may be wrong, but if you've run Applejack successfully (i.e. it ran all 5 steps and completed in good order) then you most probably don't have to run Onyx. There may be something deeper wrong.
    In the Read Me file for Applejack it says:
    +Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.+
    +6. AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.+
    Have your checked to see if there was a (Corrupt) folder created and if so, what bad preferences might have been found?
    re: SMART
    Newer hard disks have this facility built-in to more or less check hard disk health on a regular basis so as to hopefully identify potential disk problems early before they become a critical issue. Again, I really don't have any idea what it actually does, but it is supposed to be a useful health check, hence useful to do.
    re:Safari 4.0
    Haven't touched it and as a rule don't fool around with beta's let alone any x.0 software to help keep my system working well. I have read that there is an uninstall option on the beta installer which will remove all of the beta and restore back to 3.2.1. Assume you've done that?
    One more thing – Have you tried Safari in a different user account other than your own basic one? I have created a new User via System Preferences->Accounts and call it Test User. I don't alter this account at all from what is created by OSX, so it is 'clean'. When I have something going on that I can't seem to trace it, I test the same situation in the Test User to see if it is there or not. If things are normal there, then the problem is isolated to my own user account somewhere – i.e. I know better where to look. If things are also a problem there, then it is more likely a system-wide problem. That is how I've traced my own Safari problems to something somewhere in my own account. Safari worked just fine in under Test User.
    If the same problems exist in a new User (pointing to a wider system problem), and using another browser like Firefox is not an acceptable option, then you may need to do a new re-install of Tiger (Archive & Install) and start with a clean stabile system again.
    Hope something helps!

  • Problem with OnyX

    Please can anyone help. I've just run OnyX on my system (first time ever) and I think I told it to rebuild the Audio Units Cache. Now none of my third-party plugs or instruments are showing up in L8 (although I can see them in my plugin folder). What's more, when I go to preferences and select Audio Units Manager nothing happens.

    Hi,
    Happened to me recently but when i opened Logic, it just rescaned all my AU. Good thing i only have 6 or 7. It might be a good idea to restart the computer. In fact, i remember OnyX asking for a restart after the operation of cache cleaning. Did you do it?

    I'm using shapeshifter, no way I change the theme (or use the original one), the problem is still there.

    I don't remember when it showed, but in any case, it's been a long time I use shapeshifter, and I don't remember having this problem.
    So long, I have disabled shapeshifter, logged into a newly created account, moved non-essential fonts, cleared font cache... the problem remains.
    I have made some extra few caps to explain better:
    When I press cmd+tab, all open apps show on top
    When selecting the first app (starting from the left), you can notice de name of the app is "slightly" shifted to the left.
    This "sums" for each app, so at the third o fourth, looks like this:
    If you have 7-8 open apps, the last one selected has no more the text inside the grey spot
    And this is how it looks (yeaks)
    Hope it's explained better....

  • Problem with multiple applications using one audio output

    Hey there, I'm having issues setting up my 5.1 headset seen here (http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/x-tatic-digital) to work with multiple applications.
    Right now I have audio streaming from a flash video, when I try run "$ speaker-test -c 6" I get the following error:
    speaker-test 1.0.25
    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
    Using 16 octaves of pink noise
    ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
    Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
    If I try open another application which uses this device, the first application has its sound cut off.
    2 more things to note:
    - My preference for setup would be audio output through S/PDIF and input through USB, with the USB output disabled (To not waste system resources).
    - I unmuted all channels in ALSA, however when I ran the test only 2 channels seemed to be working (Front L&R), it may have been defaulting to the USB connection, in which case, that explains only 2 channels being in use, is there a method of setting the S/PDIF as default system wide?
    Thanks in advance for any help given!

    brebs wrote:It's put the comments on multiple lines - fix that.
    Woops, I guess my paste messed up, new .asoundrc: http://pastie.org/3706033
    I can run both at the same time, however I cannot hear any audio. Do I somehow have to change the default device, if so how can I do that?
    Edit:
    Restarted system now I get:
    speaker-test 1.0.25
    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
    Using 16 octaves of pink noise
    Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
    Buffer size range from 2048 to 8192
    Period size range from 1024 to 1024
    Using max buffer size 8192
    Periods = 4
    was set period_size = 1024
    was set buffer_size = 8192
    0 - Front Left
    Segmentation fault
    (That's with both commands)
    EDIT 2:
    Interesting, apparently 2 audio streams are working, however the console thing still doesn't work..?
    EDIT 3:
    Didn't last long, now flash crashes and html 5 doesn't work -.-
    EDIT 4:
    Flash only works when other audio is active, however it has constant popping sound. I went through the system logs to get the errors of when flash crashes, it's audio crashing it, here's the error:

  • [Title] (fixed) Firefox not displaying buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines

    So this isn't a question but I think it's very helpful, as I've had this problem ever since update 10 or so, even with resetting my Firefox profile so here's the fix
    k so I use Stardock software's Windowsblinds on my x64 Win 7 laptop. I run Firefox with the "Awesomebar" disabled, I like my menus. Anyhow for the longest time I've had a problem where Firefox stops displaying my buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines along with some borders on a few pages, so today I finally figured out which options to check to make things work and look how it's supposed to
    maybe your team could code some sort of detection for windowblinds and enable these options/settings automaticly
    settings in about:config that I manually changed:
    layersacceleration.draw.fps true
    plugin.allow.asyncdrawing true
    gfx.direct2d.disabled false
    Not sure if all 3 are necessary or not but I fliped the 3 to the stated variables and Vwala I can see all my buttons, bubbles, checkboxes, and input lines
    also add Windowblinds to the tags for future users ---->

    @ cor-el I tried it in the options menu quite a few times with seems that it just wasn't writing to the config file even though it said it was enabled/disabled. so I went straight to the config file and changed it manually but thank you for the input anyhow

  • GP and VC problem with input parameters

    Hi
    I have a problem with my GP dynamic approvals..
    I am trying to pass the parameters from one level to another level in GP using Visual COmposer screen with input and output parameters.
    When I see in NWA, I can see the ouput parameters of Screen1 is passed to input of Screen2 but I am not able to get the values in VC Screen.
    This scenario was working fine earlier.
    THe VC screen is same for all the approvals , I am doing dynamic approvals using predefined conditional callable  object and looping it.
    any suggestions..

    I have solved myself, I am sending html tags from one level to another level like <html></html> - these tags are not allowing VC screen to get all the parameters and they are blocked. I removed the tags, then I am able to get the parameters passed.

  • Problem with action script 3 make input text box and button....

    Hi every one I am trying to make a family book using "Air for Android" with a simple search engin in the book
    air for android only work with AS3,
    the search function is to type a person's name and hit submit then go to a specific frame.
    have a problem making below code to work in AS3 and hopefully one of you guys can lead me in the right direction to fix the issue.
    Currently, I have an input text box and a button. When you type specific words into the input box and then hit the button it sends you to a specific frame.
    (it work find in AS2 but not in AS3,)
    Here is my current code that is placed on the main timeline, first frame:
    stop();
    onEnterFrame = function () {
        submit.onRelease = function() {
            switch (yourname.text) {
            case "name1" :
                gotoAndStop(2);
                break;
            case "name2" :
                gotoAndStop(3);
                break;
    My button that checks if the phrase is correct is called "submit" and my input box has an instance of "yourname".
    My phrases that will be accepted in the input box are "name1" and "name2" which bring me to two different frames.
    Basically, I'm having a problem with making this to work with AS3.

    you should use the default option in the switch statement
    that way yourname contains something not in one of the case statements it will go to the default bit and execute teh code there
    function onSubmit(e:MouseEvent):void
                                  switch (yourname.text)
                                            case "name1":
                                                      gotoAndStop(2);
                                                      break;
                                            case "name2":
                                                      gotoAndStop(3);
                                                      break;
                                            default:
                                                      goToAndStop(you frame you want);
                                            break;

  • Input Level problem in GB with Fastrack Pro

    I have a wierd problem with Fastrack Pro. It's the same in GB and also Logic Express. I'm trying to record acoustic piano with a pair of condensor mic's on a MacBook Pro. I do get a weak signal in both programs if I set the gain knobs on Fastrack above 3/4 position. But there's no ability to adjust the signal up until I push the knobs to maximum. Then the signal clips. M-Audio let me exchange the unit for a new one, but the problem's the same. I took the setup to AppleCare and tried it on a MacBook there--same problem. AppleCare says there may be a problem with M-audio's driver, but they haven't found a fix yet. Has anybody else experienced this, or have any ideas on how to fix it?

    HT, thanks for your interest. I've tried with the pads both on and off, but to no effect. Another point of info: I used the Fastrack with my old Dell system, and it worked normally. It really seems to be internal to the MacBook, since the meter seems to work right in System Preferences but not in GB and LE. Can you think of anyway to calibrate the System Pref input to the app inputs? I know this is supposed to be automatic, but so far it's not working that way.

  • I have an IMac running the latest level of Lion.  Since installing Lion and also being forced to replace the hard drive I have a problem with the screen intermittently go all white.  Happens about 8 to 12 times a day.  I am using Wild Blue as my ISP.

    I am looking for anyone in the west Tennessee area using Wild Blue along with Apple IMac who is having a problem with their screen going complelely white every so often.  Have had the maching into the Apple store in Memphis.  They could not get it to fail.  Help

    TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
    I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
    I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.
    [edited to add:]
    After browsing through related problems in the discussions, I saw this link to a third-party web site being handed out. Perhaps you'll find it useful: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Any problemes with App. ONYX and Mountain Lion ?

    What could be the problems using Onyx ?

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
    The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
    As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
    Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although it’s not routinely needed, it may be useful in some environments, such as a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
    There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
    Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
    In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
    Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most users don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
    If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
    The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.
