Waveforms can lie! Except when zoomed all the way in!

Question

I need to edit a one-hour clip of a wedding. It was originally shot on a Sanyo HD1000 (which is some weird kind of h264) in 720P, but that plays fine and in sync in FCP. Just to make sure the mp4 format isn't causing trouble, I took the file into the Quicktime player (7.5) and exported it as a ProRes 422 Quicktime file, which of course is much larger, but which also plays in sync in FCP.
Here the mystery begins. I exported the stereo audio tracks as AIFF (because I want to clean up the audio in Soundtrack), and just to check it, brought that file back into FCP. It plays 26 frames late.
But here the mystery deepens. I turned on the waveforms and started zooming in on the timeline. Until the last two zoom-in steps, the tracks look perfectly in sync. The third-from-the-last zoom-in step, where I can clearly see individual frames, shows the tracks perfectly in sync (I found a distinctive click to look at). The last two zoom-in steps show my new track suddenly jumping 26 frames later. When I zoom back out and then in again, same result.
Sure, I can drag the new audio into sync. But I wonder: has anyone else ever noticed this odd behavior of the waveforms?

I'm still able to get both in.
If you're still having issues try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try the map againagain.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
