Wavelength Multiplexing for Dolby 3d in Adobe Speedgrade CS6

Any thoughts or how-tos for creating 3D for use in a theater running on Dolby's 3D system? I understand that Dolby uses polarized lenses with wavelength multiplexing. I have been creating DCPs (Digital Cinema Packages) for a while now, and have always wondered how to go about doing it in Dolby 3D. I imagine the best route would be to use Speedgrade to accomplish this, which is VERY new to me. Any answers or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Hey Thanks!
Ya, I've left tracks all over those sites.
FINALLY figured it out:
After talking to some real-time DCP techs, turns out it's all in how you create the 3D content, not specifically for a certain theater system. Just make a good 3D video and the 3D servers will do the rest no matter what kind of system the theater is using - Real-D, Dolby, etc. I managed to use After Effects CS6 for this task and it worked wonderfully! (I'm a projectionist with direct access to the Dolby servers and theaters) Apparently if you just let the program, After Effects in this case, do it's job, ANY 3d System in a D-Cinema will know what to do with the stereoscopic images. I was trying too hard apparently.
I imagine Speedgrade's engine, with it's impressive color correcting capabilities and brand new 3D rendering system, would be the professional way of going about it, but considering my footage was a hand drawn animation I made, yours truly did the color correcting from the start. But this will deffinitly be my next big project: Perfecting 3D in Speedgrade CS6.

  • Problems with Adobe Speedgrade CS6 in Windows 7

I am having problem with Adobe Speedgrade CS6 on my Windows 7 machine with the following specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
    Gateway FX 6800-01e
    2.67 GHz i7 Quad-core processor
    16.0 GB RAM
750GB primary hard drive (Seagate ST3750528AS)
    2 - 2TB secondary hotswap drives
    NVidia Quadro 4000 w 2GB dedicated RAM
2 Acer 231SHL HD monitors running in extended dual screen mode
    Adobe Speedgrade 6.0.4x25
It takes almost 3 minutes to open and when it does open it is slow to respond. After trying to troubleshoot it through driver updates, etc., I have done a totally clean reinstall of Windows 7, updated drivers where applicable, and disabled all malware and antivirus protection to rule out interference.  I have also tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.  I have also applied the latest update through the program interface. The other components of the suite I have installed are:
    Premiere Pro CS6
    After Effect CS6
    Acrobat XI
    Audition
    Bridge
    Photoshop (32-bit and 64-bit versions)
    Lightroom 4.3
    Prelude
The other components, including Premiere and After Effects open fine with no problem. I would appreciate any assistance with this problem that might be offered, as I am frustrated and stumped.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi Mohammed,
Did you ever get a resolve to your query about using SpeedGrade CS6 on a Core 2 processor?
I have a similar configuration and don't want to invest too much into my current computer hardware until next year when Intel rolls out their new micro-architecture wth SATA Express support.
So I am just wondering if you tried it and what the performance was like.

  • Adobe SpeedGrade CS6 Master Collection Crashing. - PC WIN7

    Hello,
After a 3 minute video import to speedgrade i started grading my wedding clip. After a second shoot grading process adobe speedgrade say: adobe speedgrade stop working. I tried so many times to import premiere pro seq to speedgrade but without any luck. It is crashing all the time. But wen i import a sequence with only a few shoot it looks to work nice and stable.
    My compuper spec are:
    i7 procesor
    32 GB ram 2400 mhz
    SSD disk
    4x 2TB HD
    nVidia GTX 680
All drivers are up to date and adobe speed grade is also up to date.
Please help me somehow. Is it possible to work stable on this color grading software?
    Im using CS6 Master Collection.

Something within that project is problematic. Your system should run this quite nicely. Although "up to date" with two-year old software is not ... completely accurate? ... still, that is a good set of gear and software that I and many others used heavily.
A bit more information on your work process would be helpful. Are you using the "Send to Adobe SpeedGrade" command in PrPro, or creating a new project from an EDL exported from PrPro? Describe your process a bit.
Also ... can you say create a new project in the same pattern as you currently use, with some other footage, just throw it together quickly ... and does that behave better? If so, it would indicate again something within this project is corrupt, which does happen occasionally. At that point, deleting the cache files may help ... search for "Adobe premiere pro cache files for X",  where you put your OS (Mac or PC) in place of X. Search also for SpeedGrade cache files which will be down a similar folder-tree as the PrPro ones, just in the Sg tree.

  • Inexpensive Dual-DVI video card for Cubase 6.5 & Adobe Premiere CS6, on Win7x64

I need a card for both and I can't find one that is "approved" for both. Is anyone using these two programs together? I'm currently using a pair of ATI FireGL V3350 cards that, so far, play video fine in Premiere (haven't done any editing or AE yet) but not in Cubase 6. I'm not a pro so a high end card would be lost on me. An inexpensive card that can handle standard editing in Premiere with some AE, no advanced 3-D (titles only?), and will also play video in Cubase 6.5 is what I'm looking for.
    Thanks in advance

hello, @ MD:  this should be fun:  i use Reason7
in the general forum there is a thread about mulitple monitors
some of the PPRO users here might get a kick out of this as well and/or have comments/advice
    here is most of it:
    CELTICDALE:
Hi! I`ve been using 3 screens for 7-8 years on 4 different systems.
This solution works on any system I can think of, laptop or desktop.
    Matrox TripleHead2Go (Digital Edition) (TH2Go)
It works by splitting the signal from 1 DVI or VGA port to 3 screens.
I just bougt a GTX690 which have 3 DVI ports, but I only use 1 with
the TH2Go because it works perfect without any hassle. The beauty
of it, compared to what others are suggesting, is that you can use
this whith whatever system you have, and you don`t have to by a new
solution (graphics card) if you upgrade. It`s external, so you can
easily move it to another computer. There are no fans and it gets
power from a USB port and use almost no power compared to an extra
gfx card. I also still have to free ports from my GTX690, allowing
me to add 2 more screens if I want.
If you hook it up to a laptop, you can use the laptop screen + up to 3
extra screens. I can run this on an 8 year old laptop I have, with no problems..
People who are suggesting that DVI is getting phased out, are wrong.
The worlds newest and fastest single GPU highend card comes with
2 DVI ports (GTX780, and is released tomorrow)
When I travel, it fits easily inside my laptop bag. Only thing I need
extra is the cables and adapters to hook up to different types of ports.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815106011
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/pr...connect_video/
The only way to go in my opinion...
    Good luck!
PS. There are different models, with HDMI also, but I reccommend the
model I linked to, as you can just go with adapter if you want to
connect to HDMI and don`t need to send sound to the screen. In the
rare cases I connect sound to the screen, I just use a minijack cable.
But of cource, you know best what you need..
hope this helps in some way, cheers, j

  • Macbook Pro Retina Noisy Fans When using adobe premere cs6

i bought new macbook pro retina 15'' 2013 newest one , but i heard a fan noise for few minute when adobe premere cs6 run . Is that normal ?
how can i solve this problem...

It probably is.  CPU/GPU intensive applications will place stress on same and cause heat.  You MBP fans are dissipating that heat.
You might install iStat pro (download from the Internet) and compare that with the Activity Monitor display to the the correlation of application usage and temperatures/fan speeds.
    Ciao.

  • First Day With Adobe SpeedGrade CC with Direct Link

I thought it would be interesting to share my first day using the new Adobe SpeedGrade CC with everyone. Most would be embarrassed to do this, not me.
This is NOT a tutorial, but more of a way to show you what I am struggling with and what I like. So if you are having your first day with this program you might run in to similar items.
Perhaps even a product manager from Adobe might watch this and help him what they should work on next.
    Issues I had:
    Where are the Curves adjustments?
How do I sharpen an image?
Can you use the tracker backwards?
    Why didn’t my track work?
Playback at 10fps (not real time with my Monster Computer)
    How do you blend layers?
How do you zoom into the timeline?
    Things I love:
    Doesn’t crash like Resolve
    DIRECT LINK!!!! Love it!
2 up and 3 up for shot matching.
    No more XML and EDL!!!!

    Dave,
I'm basically a noob here too ... only been working with this for what, 5 months?
Yea ... would LOVE the option to switch to a curves-based control, one each for luminosity/R-G-B at the least. I've put in a feature-request for that, as have apparently some others. Maybe next year in ... oh well.
Also ... you might have noted, there's no skin line in the vectorscope! Ridiculous, and that's ALSO been feature-requested by people ... again, maybe next year in ... oh well.
Still ... but dang this program does work fast in concert with P-Pro as your NLE. One bit of advice. In a P-Pro/Sg/Ae workflow, the link from/to P-Pro and Speedgrade works perfectly well both ways. HOWEVER ... your Sg grades do not come into Ae if you send the project from P-Pro to AfterEffects. Now ... if you save your P-Pro projects with it's Sg grades ... then open Ae and use its Dynamic Link feature to pull a P-Pro project into Ae, your grades from Sg come in just fine thank you.
And anything you do in Ae comes into Sg on a different layer that you aren't allowed to 'touch', so you can do fx work afore grading and see how the footage looks including the fx, but you can't touch the fx layer of the timeline (other than to turn on/off visibility in the monitor) to do anything to it.
Still ... easy workarounds, NO time to transcode/export/import ... glory hallelujah!

  • What Systems are the Pros Using for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade?

I bought the full Creative Cloud in hopes of making a career for myself in audio/visual editing. The problem is, my system doesn't seem to be able to handle the software, particularly when changing back and forth between the three programs mentioned above. Beyond that, my first project failed to export properly. Moreover, all throughout its development the system lagged badly. And this is after having followed all the preferences recommendations available in the Adobe's tutorials and elsewhere on the Web.
    Here's my system:
SYX-P67A-C43: Intel Core i7 2600 (an 8-core unit) at 3.4GHz, with 8 Gigs of RAM (soon to be 16) with a GTX 550 NVidia Card, 1Gig of RAM.
As you can see, this is far in excess of what Adobe claims to be the minimum system requirements. It's obviously NOT.
What systems are the Pros using (like the guys in the tutorials) for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade? Give me the exact machines with all the specs so I can price one up.

...although a little " old" now.....the fundamentals of your machine are still OK to get started IF you : 1. INCREASE your system memory to the full 32 GB....should make a BIG difference in performance.....8 GB is NOT enough, it will HINDER performance. 2. OVERCLOCK your CPU !!!.....many owners of your CPU have been safely running at 4.5 Ghz or HIGHER...some at 4.8 Ghz !!! This OC will make a DRAMATIC improvement  as  CPU speed is a huge factor in performance. 3. Improve your video card to a new NVidia 970 with 4 GB of video memory. 4. Check and MAKE SURE the power supply in your machine is ADEQUATE to handle everything, esp. if you overclock the CPU....generally 850 to 1,000 watts of a quality make is good. 5. Use a fast storage system...that means a SATA III SSD as your "C" drive, ( boot drive), being a Crucial M550 series,( or, M600 series), OR, a Samsung 850 Pro series SSD, ( more expensive). Other SSDs are NOT recommended, only these two makes are recommended for technical reasons. On this "C" drive, you should have Operating system, Programs, and Windows page file ONLY !! Your "D" drive can be ANOTHER single SSD to be used as a "cache drive" for all the previews, media cache, and cache files that Premier Pro creates PLUS, it can ALSO serve as the "Global Performance cache" used in After Effects. All your media and project files can go on your "E" drive. HERE you would have LIMITED OPTIONS because your motherboard only has TWO SATA III ports, ( which would already be used b the "C" and "D" SSDs). You NOW have only 4 SATA II ports left ......you COULD RAID 0 four 1 TB HDDs off these ports and have a 4TB backup drive connected to one of your TWO USB 3 external ports.....any DVD or Blue-ray can ALSO go on an external port.
However, if you are into spending REAL MONEY !!!.....Go Haswell E and X99 all the way !!...THAT will give you great performance !!
