Wavy Effect on Verticals

Hello, I never have a problem capturing from my
Premiere Pro CS3, but when I try to capture
video with Onlocation CS3, anything
that is vertical have a wavy effect.
Color, Brightness, etc is ok.
But vertical borders of a building, trees
a pole, whatever vertical, will be wavy.
Thanks

Here is a picture I did with Photoshop
simulating the effect.
ANYTHING Vertical will have those "moving" waves on the borders.
( Those waves will move up or down with the video, they are not fix on the spot )
However I do not think Onlocation will do what I was looking for...
Changing the brightness of the video coming into the pc.
Sometimes the video lets say is just a little bit too dark.
I was hoping I could control this in the capture program
but the only thing I managed to do is to change
the brightness of the Onlocation-Monitor, not
the capture video........

  • Create a Wavy Lines Effect

I've seen this effect done in a few places lately and I was wondering how to do it. It looks like a row of straight lines were warped and skewed to create a wavy effect. I can't believe that one would have to draw each curved line individually, can anyone offer suggestions on how this effect might be achieved?
    Here are some examples:

This is done with Adobe Illustrator, using blends: you select two or more paths, and a Blend will make either a smooth transition or a series of discrete steps between them.

  • Weird ripple effect after export to .jpg

I have been attempting to create star trails for the past couple of weeks.  I'm using a Canon T3i, shooting in RAW forward and the lens is a Canon 40mm pancake lens.
When I look at the 200+ layer image in Photoshop CC, it looks like this:
Looks okay.  But when I export the image out to a .jpg, I get a weird "wavy" effect in the image
Is there any way to get rid of that?  I'm using the lightening blending effect when I merge the layers.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  • IDVD photos have wavy 3D effect

When I create a project in imovie (including photos & movies) and then burn a disk using iDVD the still photos all have a wavy 3D effect happening. I have tried changing the encoding but can't find anything else to help with the problem.  I am using a Lumix with 1080 but not sure if it's just the camera or the burning process as when I play the imovie project directly through the TV (which is also 1080) there is no problem with the still shots. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that advice. I've had a little play with it and it appears to be solving the problem nicely.

  • Wavy colored lines on screen - little like a photoshop selection effect

    Hi All,
This morning when I woke my 20" intem iMac from it's sleep, I was presented with a screen full of wavy "ie moving" curved lines moving around the screen. It looked a bit like a selection in an image editing program like photoshop. In all other respects the machine was working fine. Anyways, after mild panic and a few reboots, no dice, still wavy lines.
I did notice that the initial mac icon as it booted looked normal, then the wavy lines kicked in, so I had a little hope that it wasn't a hardware problem.
Long story short, resetting the PRAM (commandoption+PR) during reboot fixed it for me. Phew.
Just thought I'd post in case someone else runs into this problem.
    Cheers

Ah, yes, the usual reason not to give up a computer for repair. They might simply replace your display, leaving you with the rest of the unit and original hard drive in place. There may be no problem occur, but it's always wisest to be prepared for a repair failure and back up prior to giving up the machine. While the repair personnel might be interested (or not) in protecting your interests, I'd keep in mind that they're only human and do make errors.
I don't know what will happen next if you choose to do nothing. What if the problems escalate for you and you end up losing everything on the hard drive - are you backed up and prepared for that possibility? Not fair, I know, throwing the doomsday scenario at you, but .... your decision.
    Edit-
You might want to check the warranty language, as I imagine that Apple won't agree to be responsible for your data, even if they try to help you out in that respect during service.

  • Adding a lower-third effect - wavy lines with trails plus a titling questio

    Hello All;
I saw a cool effect used in a corporate video that I'd like to reproduce. The effect showed a series of lines that moved across the screen in a soryt of curved up/down pattern and then over that was overlaid the title.
What is the best and easiest way to create this ? Could it be done directly in FCP, or is it best to use Apple Motion, or is there a third party software package I could obtain, or a combination of these ?
Also, I hear the titler in FCP isn't that good - How do most of you do titling - Do you use Photoshop or Illustrator ? Also, what if I wanted a moving title ?
    Thanks.
    Tim

First, let's talk about the animation you saw. You could create that in Motion. If you haven't used it before, it will take some learning on how to create the element you want and then animating it. There are also several templates in there, but I don't know if what you want is in there.
Second - LiveType is a great piece of software, but I don't think it's in FCP Studio 3 (I've read that somewhere).
You could use Motion for your titling as well.

  • How to fix choppy/wavy video using After Effects?

Here's the video, just in case my explanation doesn't do justice, Shou.tv/aesthete18. It's the 21:03 minutes one (You can rotate video on top right corner)
    Some details on the video:
The video on the site is recorded at 2mbps bitrate and 720p resolution. The max is 16mbps bitrate and 1080p resolution. Both have the same issues
    The problem:
When the character is walking, the video seems to be wavy, you can see the screen is kinda moving to the right. It's really hard to watch and hurts the eyes after awhile. I'm not sure if this has to do with bitrate or anything but I doubt it as a friend of mine did it in 8mbps without any issues, he's was pretty smooth.
What I'd like to know is, can it be fixed in AE? A friend of mine has AE CS4 but he doesn't know much about it. I'd be willing to learn, if you'd point me in the right direction, I can use his PC to edit.
Keep in mind, I've only just seen the interface of AE and have no idea how anything works.

The link is to a game play screen capture, which is upside down by the way, and it shows a lot of color and motion artifacts. The artifacts and frame rate problems have everything to do with your screen capture program and if they are in the original video there is not much you can do about it using AE or any other program. I can't stand to watch game play anyway. It even gives me a headache when the most games are running. I know recording your game play is popular with the gaming community but there has got to be a better way to capture it than the way you are doing.

  • I'm getting wavy lines on my stills within my timeline

Hi all, it's me again. I have a new issue. I recently did a project using .jpg images and put them to music. I also used LiveType as name keys to highlight what the different sections were. When I exported the project I used the animation codec, none on field dominance and left it at the 720x480. I needed this quick so I used iDVD. When you play the video on a NTSC monitor you see wavy lines along the edges of the photos (the ones that have black as the border) as well as fine lines either from a brick wall or windows. (I know there is a bit of a zebra effect when there are lines already in the image) So I don't know if I just need to start over and import the images as pict or tiff files or if it's a simple fix by using a different codec and appropriate settings.
    Any thoughts, I'm open.
    Mike

If it's the black border on your pix that waves then you can try a couple of things. You could use a gaussian blur filter, but I would make it really slight like .02-.05.
You might also try putting a soft edge on the border you created for the jpgs

  • 19" Samsung 2nd display has "wavy" lines

I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 906bw as a second display for my 24" iMac. I have it connected via the included VGA cable. The displays resolution is at 1440x900 with 60 hertz.
The problem, is that there are wavy lines continuously moving up the display. It's kind of hard to explain, think of those bars moving up a CRT display when they are filmed on video. I've tried adjusting the resolutions and hertz, but no dice. Any idea what could be the problem? Is it the display, or the video card?

    "Wavy lines on the screen:
In some instances you may encounter wavy lines on the screen. These are usually 1/4" thick and move in a vertical motion. This is caused by a noisy electrical feed from a wall outlet. If you change your vertical refresh rate under display properties to 75Hz this effect should disappear.

  • Display Ripple Effect

Well I finally have Debian installed on the G3 iMac and everything seems to be working good except for a ripple effect when I drag a window or scroll up & down in the browser.
It looks like a wavy motion or ripple. Do anybody know a solution? I've had this happen awhile ago but I can't remember what I did to fix it on a PC. I don't remember it doing this when I had Ubuntu installed.
    Any ideas?
    Thnx.

I have started it from being off and same effects.
I believe its more of a driver issue or maybe the horizontal/vertical rate numbers.
Since I was installing Debian PPC Linux, a minimum install, I had to reinstall xorg because of another issue. Once I reinstall xorg, I was able to get gui but with this wavy/ripple effect.
This happen once before with a x86 pc but I can't remember what I did to fix it at the time.
    Thnx.

  • Changin Scale Causes wavy lines

    Premiere Pro CC
I'm working w someone else's original cut getting ready to lay to tape (required by client). To create a zoom effect the other editor keyframed the scaling on quite a few shots. For some reason when it is played in the time line it's causing wavy lines (almost a rolling shutter look) in the back ground of the shot. The lines are always in a bush or tree in the back ground, and not on the main subject, but is very noticeable.
I'm working on a late 2013 Mac Pro w/ up to date Creative cloud.
This type of issue is on multiple projects, and different types of camera footage. There is no distortion on the raw footage, or if the shot is placed in the seq w/out the scaling changes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you get rid of this line?

  • Puddle and reflection effects in After Effects CS4

I am currently using After Effects CS4 (will be upgrading to CS6 in a couple of days) and I am currently trying out a test project using basic lighting animation.  However, one element I want to create is a puddle on the ground.  I was wondering if anybody here could advise on creating a puddle and its effects in After Effects, such as wave movements, reflection (particularly background elements) and whether I should use the basic pen tool or use some sort of diffusion maps.  If I wanted to make things a little more complicated, then how can I create rain effects to hit the ground plane without it looking like a screen filter and have it influence the puddle?
If any of you would be able to point me out to some other tutorials on the web, I would be very grateful for that.

GenArts' Monsters GT has a Puddle 3D effect that is quite okay for that. Beyond that I don't see how we should advise specifically without a reference image. There's a million types of puddle from still and murky flat ones to deep asphalt holes to wavy large ones on fields and how "real" they look will ultimately depend on their context.

  • How to create a wavy line with consistent wave regardless of anchor point spacing?

The above image shows my problem. All have the same zig zag effect setting, but due to inconsistent anchor point spacing there is inconsistent waviness. Is there a way to make a wavy line that is not a distortion based on anchor point distances? I'd like all my wavy lines to look nice and consistent like this:
The only reason they're so consistent is the absolute setting has been used but these lines are all straight and have only 2 anchor points, start and finish, hence the wave is consistent. It's harder when the lines are curvy and have a different number and spacing of anchor points.

If you want the fill to follow the boundary, here's one way to do it, more easily done than demonstrated:

  • How could i make chequered effect?

Hi all, im looking to make chequered effect on illustrator.
So not just normal squares same size etc, but squares of different shapes etc, ( like a flag when its blowing in the wind etc)
    look forward to your replies
    many thanks,
    regards,

    Hi, Ryan.
I've been working with Illy off and on for about a year now. Learning it is a handful. My best friend is the Visual Quickstart Guide for Illy from Peachpit Press. (And of course this forum.) It's not fancy smancy. It's all about where the buttons are and what do they do. Lot's of screenshots. I know how much screenshots help me, and that's why I take the time to include them in my posts.
Anyway, here's a step by step.
    1. Make a square, fill with white.
Go to Transform Pallet. Set the little black square to the position shown.
Go to Actions Palette. Click on the little triangle at top right. Select Button Mode.
These are the same actions in Button Mode.
    2. Click on Copy Flip Vertical. Repeat 3 times (or as many times as you need). Select them all and Group (Ctrl+G).
Go to Transform Pallet. Position the little black square as shown.
    3. In the Actions Pallet, hit Copy Flip Horizontal. With the white arrow, Shft+Click on the squares you want to be black.
    4. Fill with black. Group all the squares.
    5. Hit Copy Flip Horizontal 3 times (or whatever meets your needs).
    6. Two of the square Groups are backwards. Set the little black square in the Transform Palette in the middle. Select the backwards segments and hit Flip Horizontal.
    That's it.
All this can be done without the Actions Palette, but the actions used are Illy defaults, and using the Action Palette in Button Mode is ridiculously fast. If time is money, then actions are golden.
Now, as to the wavy flag part, I'm working on a wavy flag myself. A straightforward warp mesh doesn't give me realistic results. I'm thinking I'm going to have to break the flag into sections and warp each section separately. I haven't had the time to work it all out. You might fiddle with that approach.
    Peace,
    Lee

  • Creating wavy lines...

    Hi,
Can someone help me find out how to do it this red, wavy lines like on this picture below, maybe some tutorial...any help appreciate. The effect that the are sometimes under and sometimes below other objects is achieved by layers?
    Regards

    Zeno,
I think that you are 100% correct. I had looked at the attached image, and the red on red fooled my eyes. Blown up in PS, I see exactly what you are talking about. Thanks for pointing this out. I stand corrected.
To the OP, forgive my haste. What I thought I saw was not what your image actually shows under magnification. [Note to self: Magnify the image in PS, before you comment.]
    Good luck,
    Hunt
