Way off topic ACR

Hi
I realise this is way off  track but I can't find a solution anywhere. When I start up bridge and try to go to camera Raw I get told editing is not enabled.
I've searched the web abd it seems to be a well know issue but in the Bridge, photoshop or ACR forums there is no solution listed.
Has anyone else had this with the wen premium suite and found a solution?
thanks
Ian

  • Sorry this is way off topic...NYC Petition, please have a look

    I know this is WAY off topic for this forum, but this is the only forum I follow and contribute to. And since we will ALL be affected by this at some point or another if we visit NYC I think it is worth all of our attention.
    Here is the text from the email I got from the APA...(link at bottom)
    The Mayor's office in New York City is seeking to instate a new rule that would require permits and proof of insurance for any group of 2 or more persons using a camera in a public area. The regulations would require that anyone using a tripod or shooting in one location for more than 30 minutes (including set-up and break down time) must obtain permits and show proof of insurance of at least 1 million dollars per occurrence. Read more about the new rules here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/film/html/news/080107_proposed_permit_rules.shtml
    We all need to act now to fight these proposed regulations which will place absurd restrictions on the freedom to photograph in New York City's public spaces.
    This affects not only professional photographers but the First Amendment rights of anyone with a camera to spontaneously document what happens on the streets of this city.
    Due to pressure from advocacy groups, the Mayor's Office has agreed to extend the period that it will allow public commentary until August 3rd.
    Picture New York has initiated an online petition opposing the new rules, which over 12,000 indidivuals have signed so far. The petition is closing on August 3rd. Please take a moment to sign if you have not already done so.
    Here is the link to sign the petition:

    you have to be careful with your variables:
    the declared variables inside the actionlistener(s) are not these in your main class!!
    what you might do:
    a) let your main-class implement ActionListener
    public class MainClass extends PARENTCLASS implements ActionListener {
       public static void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) {
    }b) create your own event handler
    public class MainClass extends PARENTCLASS {
       public MainClass() {
          insert.addActionListener(new YourActionListener(this));
    public class YourActionListener extends ActionListener {
       private MainClass main;
       public YourActionListener(MainClass parent) {
          main = parent;
       public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) {
          main.year = "abc";
          main.id = "id";
          // or implement setXXX methods -> main.setYear("abc"); main.setId("id"); ...

  • Audio production education (way off topic)

    Hi all, sorry for the off-topic Q but I'm thinking about "formalizing" my audio production learning. Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with Berklee's online courses? It's pro tools heavy, but what one learns in one DAW can be ported to another I imagine.
    Thanks much!

    I've taken several online courses with Berklee, and found them to be very good. The only issue you really want to be clear about, is that you have necessary prior knowledge to take the class. The Pre-requisites.
    You must already be computer savy. You may need to have a certain background knowledge too. For instance, I was taking an arranging class, and we had to upload homework every 2 days. They recommended using Finale. It might take me 2 hours to do the assignment, but then it took me another 5 to figure out how to use finale, to get the assignment to look right. I ended up using Logic's scoring, which was fine, but the benefit of using Finale would have been, all the other students could have downloaded my assignment, and played in in Finale, and heard it exactly as I did it..
    Each subject you take might have a different pre-requisite knowledge.. Some classes really don't much of anything.. Some classes use textbooks, or require CD's, others suggest where you can find free materials to assist with. Most classes you need to do some kind of homework, and upload. Some students had trouble with that and dropped out..
    I would say that Berklee online is an excellent experience... It is EXPENSIVE though. The only fault I could point out is the above, prior knowledge that one might need to know to take a course. In my experience, the administration was a little too lax with that, in order to sell you a course.
    I'm not sure about taking a pro-tools course, and hoping it will give you a lot of knowledge about using cu-base or Logic.. Yes a lot of concepts will 'port over' to another area.

  • Way off Topic - Need to improve my vision with new glasses

    I’m sorry posting this kind of question here but I thought since we are all all Mac users and some of us work in front the screen everyday I decided to ask a recommendation here.
    I’m a EPP operator and my station is an iMac 27 hardware calibrated, at home I use the 23 aluminum cinema. My vision has degraded a lot in the past 2 years. I’ve seen a doctor who gave me a prescription for new glasses. Is it better to get a pair of glasses just for the computer (wich I have most difficulty to see) or a lens that is for both, long distance (which my is not that bad) and for arm distance (computer). Is there a specific type of lens grade that I should look for?
    I asked this question for the Dr. he says I should get one pair that I can use for both but I’m having problems with that.
    I really need to see the screen well for color correction and setup the files for the presses.
    Thanks again and sorry this type of question

    OK...I've spent weeks trying to find a way to save my library. Finally I came across a little program call
    "Podup". This little application did the trick exactly right.
    But...first application I tried was "Touchcopy". I'm sorry but this thing just didnt work good. Touchcopy tried to do way too much. Everytime I would try to send large selection of my music back to itunes Touchcopy would freeze. Touchcopy was not copying over all of my album work either. This was the slowest program! I spent at least 2 days trying different ways to make this thing work right but no luck. If you're looking for a simply way to save your ipod music dont waste your time or money on touchcopy. I'm hoping they will at least give me my money back.
    Now...If you want a simple way to save your ipod music then try "podup". I've been looking everywhere for the right tool. I've read hundreds of reviews and all of the products seemed to have alot of problems...some people even losing their songs off of their ipods. I came across "podup" and did not see too many reviews but the few i read were all good. No cost and EASY to use. I was really tired of looking and gave it a shot. Plugged in ipod and hit the copy button. It was really about that easy. Now it took a very looooooooong time to copy 23,000 + songs but it did it! Album artwork copied over also. Out of 23,000+ songs Podup only had 446 errors (songs that did not copy) and i'm pretty sure these files were no good either way.
    I hope this helps because it really saved my library. This was the only product i found that would work right with my mac. I had to do the same thing about a year ago on my windows pc and I used "tunejack" which worked just as good.
    Good luck

  • WOT (way off topic): Site appearance

    Where would I go to find out why some of this site doesn't display properly on my computer? At least I think it's not right--the font in the tabs at the top and some type at the bottom are outlined and hard to read.

    Somebody gave an explanation of what's happening here:
    http://doctype.com/browsers-showing-h1-text-outlines
    "I encountered a similar issue to what Lee experienced, except that my situation was resolved by deactivating the Helvetica Neue Bold Outline face. Because of the way the font file is named, it gets loaded before regular Helvetica Neue Bold — if you notice, the fonts getting outlined are all bold-faced fonts.
    There are a few bugs open for Safari and Firefox that address this issue - it looks like FF 3.5 resolves it, but Safari 4 still has the issue."

  • WAY off topic, do horses have arms?

    Off the wall kind of question, nothing to do with LV!. Does anyone here think that animals like dogs, horses, tigers (etc...) actually have two arms and two legs, rather than the conventional asusmption that they have four legs?
    The front limbs are attached to the chest, surely this implies they must be arms!

    Puns are always worth Kudos in my book.
    After some additional research (with my wife's help) I have realized that it is not hands that make arms but rather sleeves. Any animal appendge coming froth from a sleeve is an arm.
    Case in point:
    A bear has paws until you put a shirt on him (Think Edward Bear aka Winnie the Pooh) and bingo they are now arms. The same priciple also applies to wings as in Donald Duck. This rule does not apply to legs where pants are not required.

  • Interactive map -- I know I'm way off topic

    OK, this has nothing to do with the iBook per se, but I'm a freelance writer doing a story on San Francisco, and many of the places I need to visit and write about while I'm there are not listed on your average tourist map -- or any map for that matter. What I want to be able to do is take an existing map of San Francisco (one available online) and plot out all of the various locations on that map (I'll be visiting 30 or 40 different places in a four-day span of time), maybe even including the name of the location and the address in small type. Is there software out there that handles this type of thing?
    One other, OSX-related question: I'm still using version 10.4.3. Is version 10.4.4 fairly glitch-free?
    14 ibook 1.33ghz Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    A compilation is just that: a compilation of songs and not a "regular" album.
    An example would be the "Now That's What I call Music".
    If it is not marked as a compilation, all the individual artists shows up under the Artist section.
    Marked as a compilation, the album will show up under Artist -> Compilations by album name.

    Last summer right before I took my family on vacation I saw that the apple stores were having a 'children's' video camp. Didn't match up with the time were were in town. Ugh.

  • MQ, eSQL and CLOBs (Off Topic)

    Hi,
    Apologies for this way off topic post, but I figured someone here may know the answer to this one and save me some time digging / testing.
    We're designing a middleware hub using WBIMB (MQ) v5 and have the option of
    a. Sending a message to a JMS Listener that will write an entry in a database via JDBC
    b. Having the broker flow insert the record using a compute node / java node.
    If we choose option b my preference would be to use eSQL, but the database table has a CLOB column and I'm not sure whether this is supported.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help,
    Steve

    Hello Huffer Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have been doing a bit more research and came across an old spec for a "lenovo" hard-disk (HDD) with 320GB capacity used in numerous ThinkPads. Unfortunately it does not include the X300 model that i have. The full details can be found HERE. The height of the HDD is 7 (SEVEN) mm. I may be paranoid but can you please just confirm that the lenovo X300 ThinkPads (see full details above) with the 320GB HDD really have a height of 9.5mm and so will be able to take the HDD 2.5" with 2TB that I plan to buy. If the height really is only 7m then I have a problem.  Then I think that i will have to go up my idea of increasing the storage space. If you cannot answer the question with 100% certitude then I will have to reopen the laptop and measure the space available but that is a pain since I am new to all this and afraid of damaging the HDD. Thanks. Cheers. Steve.

  • Off topic question! mA/h rating and expected lief span of coin cell battery

    hi folks
    well, thanks for all the help here i got no labview. im just wondering how i can calculate an approximate lifecycle for coin cell batterys on the sensor motes i got here. if i know the average current it draws, say 30mA. and the input voltage (say 3volts), how can i approximate the life span of the device with 3.3v coin cells, i think 220mAh rating.
    at the minute all my testing was done when i was sending data blocks so i was always using current ,unless i was in idle mode. so my lifespan was just a couple of hours. i want to know how long the device would last under realistic working conditions, like sending packets of data when required, etc.
    sorry that  this is way off topic!
    eric

    Eric,
    The simple answer is that it is complex. The ampere-hour rating of a battery is typically based on a fixed discharge, either constant current or constant resistance. The most commmon rating is calculated from the constant current which discharges the battery to a specified voltage over 20 hours. The complexity comes from the fact that batteries do not provide the same amount of charge (current*time product) for different current levels.
    Looking at your case: 220 mAh capacity with load of 30 mA and variable duty cycle. If the capacity is based on a 20 hour discharge (coin cells may be rated differently because their typical use is long term slow discharge), the standard discharge rate would be 220/20 = 11 mA. If the capacity were linear with discharge current, the life with your load would be 220/30 = 7.3 hours. As you observed the actual life was shorter. This may have been due to less capacity at higher currents, internal resistance, or your load may require a higher voltage than that at which the capacity rating was specified.
    If your duty cycle was reduced to 10% and idle current was negligible, the life span would nominally be 220 mAh / (30 mA * 10%) = 73.3 hours. Depending on the characteristics of the battery and how long the load was on each time, the lifetime might be longer or shorter than that.

  • Off Topic-Becoming a Verizon Network Tester

    I know this is way off topic, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. How does one apply for a job to become a Verizon Network Tester in their area? I'm constantly running real world tests from my phone around my area, contantly testing voice calls, texting, data, running speed/network tests, etc., and anytime I spot the slightest issue, I immediately report it. I'd be a valuable testing asset to the Verizon team if I'd be able to join.

  • Newbie wireless question (slightly off-topic)

    I didn't want to post this here as it's not entirely an Airport-specific question. I posted this to the iBook forums, but nobody there has answered so my apologies if this is not welcome here. (Any moderators can remove it if that's the case.)
    I've been using computers extensively for over a decade, but I'm a total newbie to wifi. I just set up a wireless network in my house and would appreciate some advice/feedback.
    My main concerns are whether or not my network is reasonably secure. I know there is no such thing as perfect security, but I don't know if what I've done is good enough or not.
    I don't have an Airport base station, but I do have a D-Link Airplus G and an Airport card in my iBook. I have WEP set up on the router and I have enabled MAC filtering, listing only my desktop and my iBook, excluding all others from the network.
    I'm fairly certain that nobody in my neighborhood is going to get into my machines this way or be able to sniff my network data stream, but am I right in assuming that nobody can "piggyback" on my Internet connection too? Presumably, if everyone but my own machines are MAC-filtered and kept out, then the Internet connection is also protected. Is that how it works?

    WEP and MAC filtering are better than nothing, but you can do better. These are my suggestions:
    1. Use WPA with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption on your Netgear router, along with an alphanumeric passphrase of at least eight characters not found in any dictionary. The equivalent setting on your Mac is "WPA Personal". Unlike WEP security (which an expert can crack in under half an hour), WPA security is currently unhackable by any practical means as long as you use a non-dictionary passphrase. One last point - WPA security requires all your wireless Macs to be running MacOS 10.3 or newer.
    2. MAC filtering is (these days) essentially useless as a wireless security method. Using "packet sniffing" of traffic on your wireless network to find out what MAC addresses are used by computers on your network, and a PC that allows its MAC address to be cloned so that it is identical to the MAC address of one your own wireless computers (which is possible with most PC wireless network adapters) even an amateur hacker can defeat MAC address filtering in minutes.
    By the way - I don't think your posted message here is off topic. In my opinion, the Airport discussion forums are the best place to post any questions related to usage of wireless networks. Questions of this nature are virtually never specific to any Mac model.

  • Off topic: General comment

    All,
    I know this is totally off-topic but this is the best way to send a very important message.
    One of those days, someone called to us to offer Solaris support services, because that person was reading this forum and saw our entries. I guess, if we are here asking for help, and helping others, the idea is to use the community to achieve better results.
    I understand that every business needs to make money, but there are some limits as well. If we had any interest to hire a consulant and pay for him/her services, we would not be here making posts.
    Also, what is much more important, is to share information and knowledge about a product, Solaris, which is open source now.
    So, if there are any other business digger here, please do not contact us in anyway, unless we ask for that contact. Right now, that person and his company are on my personal "avoid contact at any cost" list.
    Cheers

    Printers are the Demon Seed, the work of Beelzebub. While my Epson R340 will of course print for weeks on end just fine, if I suddenly need to print something urgently, it is 100% guaranteed to print it in purple. Or, the heads will need cleaning, resulting in two hours of listening to "neeeeeeeeh neh-neh-neh-neh-neh neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh neh neh neh'. Or, the DVD's doesn't get drawn into the printer properly, the resulting label is half off the disc, and it's just made a nice coaster.
    I broke my last Epson while leaping up and down upon it in an apoplectic rage in such circumstances. Really.
    But it seems you are right, we have no option. Finally, Print Shop by Broderbund is probably like a high-tech wunderkind chrome robot when compared to the Official Worst Appplication of All Time, Epson Print CD, which closely resembles a turd.
    Rant rant rant.

  • Off topic question in DOS Batch files ...

    Hi,
    I am sorry in advance, for posting an off-topic question. But I had no other known way.
    I need to invoke 8 sessions of a java program on 8 different windows. I use Windows platform. I want to write a batch file that will cause the java program to be invoked on a separate window, so that I can watch the execution of 8 sessions at a time. How can I do this (specifically, how can I open a new window in batch files in DOS)?
    Thanks in advance,
    K
    My java program invocation is like this:
    C:\>java Site i
    where i is a command line argument that will go from 0 to 7.

    Batch files (to my limited knowledge) are just "macros" that procedurally run DOS commands. It's just like opening a new command window and sitting there typing a list of commands, except the computer does it for you. So, for example, to run the commands java HelloWorld and cls, the java program would first have to execute before the screen can be cleared. For your purposes, you may need a small launcher app.
