Way to check if both fans are working?

I know one fan works, as I can hear it on the left side. But the other... I don't think I've ever heard it come on. Is there any way to check?
Thanks.

I'm not sure where everyone gets the idea that the left fan is always on. I've operated my MBP with the keyboard propped up, and observe that the left fan is not always on, and that when the fans do turn on, they turn (and off) together. It's likely the hard drive that you're hearing on the left, it's much louder than the fans spinning at low rpm.
So, if you just run the Apple Hardware Test on the DVD disk 1 that comes with the MBP, it'll test the fans and you can hear them turn on.

I bought GTX 470 Twin Frozr II several year back
now the fans stopped working (not spinning at all)
I've cleaned the dust and did everything
can I get new fans for the card (My card is OUT OF WARRANTY)
    how much new fans cost???
    can anybody tell me????

fisrt one fan stopped working and later the other
i touched them and both FANS were too hot to touch
cable connections of both fans are fine
sometimes they spins but with very low RPM 200~400
few months back both fans were very free to move (i tried spinning with my hand when I was cleaning the card) now they are hard to spin like dust is inside the motor of the fan (I know fans are not of use anymore)
I already know about Arctic twin turbo II but i'm not spending that much money (I live in INDIA so the shipping charges are about 10$~13$), 65$ heatsink + 12$ shipping = 75$~78$
I want just fans not entire heatsink

  • Only one of my fans are working on my macbook pro retina 13 inch late 2013 model. Is something wrong?

It appears that only one of my fans are working on my macbook pro with retina display 13 inch late 2013 model. Is some thing wrong? if so how can i fix it?

To my knowledge there is only one fan on all 13" Mac notebooks, Retina or standard screen. Not enough space for a second fan and no Discrete GPU to cool.
    So nothing is wrong.

  • MacBook Pro 17" - both fans are always on (6000rpm)

Okay... I've read several threads about similar problems and have not been able to solve mine. I have a MBP 17" in which both fans are constantly on... from 15 seconds after start-up to 15 seconds after shutdown. iStat Pro says both are running around 6000rpm. Activity Monitor - Active Processes lists the highest CPU is Parallels at 7... next highest is kernel_task at 3... with not much else running... Not sure exactly what it is I'm looking for in Activity Monitor (the number under CPU?), but to my untrained eyes, everything looks okay there. My computer is certainly a lot cooler than it usually is, barely warm at all to the touch, which I believe is rare for a MBP...
    Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? this helps me for a while.

  • MSI GTX 680 TF3 OC 2GDR5 BOTH FANS NOT WORKING

]BOTH FANS OF MY GPU ARE NOT WORKING THEY ARE AT FULL STOP AND MANUALLY ALSO NOT SPINNING THROUGH AFTERBURNER UNLESS I APPLY IT AT MAX 88%  BELOW THAT AND THEY COMPLETELY STOP ALTHOUGH AFTERBURNER IS SHOWING ME THEY ARE SPINNING WHAT CAN I DO IN THIS CASE? PLEASE HELP... WHEN I BOOT THEY SPIN FOR 1 SEC & AFTER THAT THEY ARE COMPLETELY STOP.. MY TEMPS ARE REACHING SKY HIGH . THE ONLY WAY TO USE IT BY RUNNING THEM AT 88% ALWAYS MANUALLY? BELOW THAT AND BOTH FAN STOPS.. PLEASE HELP :s

    I see.
You can either find replacement fans online, or buy aftermarket cooler for GPU. Or as last solution: find a broken card that will cost not much, but it and replace heatsink with fans.
Or ask MSI, maybe they can redirect you to some store with fans:

Also did you try to reinstall Afterburner? And are you able to test the card in different PC?

  • How to check if my fan is working ?

After 30 minutes listening a dvd, my satellite A100-768 is getting slow and the CPU temperature (Speed fan) is around 86 degres... the fan does not start. If I blow into the extract system, DVD start again. How can I check my fan ??

    Hi
Could you please explain what do you want to check on the fan???
If there is something wrong, the notebook must be opened to check the hardware!
But if you will do it by yourself, you will lose the warranty coverage.
Therefore I dont recommend opening the notebook or removing any covers!!
Contact the ASP and explain him the situation with the cooling modules

  • [URGENT] Mac Pro not booting, Fan error but fans are working.

    Hello,
My server G5 is stuck on grey screen with spinning wheel. I ran the AHT and got the following:
    2FAN/4/8: CPU A INTAKE
All the fans are spinning. I would really really appreciate if I can get any help or advice. I tried searching for this AHT error but could not find anything solid.
This is our main server and its crucial to our organization and I am sweating bullets here.
I reseted memory and unplugged all RAID drives. The three LED on the Logic board are Red, Yellow and Green; Power On, Trickle and Open Firmware respectively.
    Thanks for any help.

Just to say that usually it helps to include the make/model of RAID controllers, whether it is hardware RAID or not. The Mac Pro Apple RAID card IS a PITA and is particular sometimes about drives and its battery reconditioning as well as mounting drives and time to create a hardware RAID5.
When a drive causes trouble it is often though not always because of directory being damaged and OS X can't even inspect to see if there is a system or if it can be mounted.
And because the G5 normally only has two SATA drives, to use three requires a bracket or something else to add drives, like Sonnet G5 Jive. And then a PCI SATA controller with internal ports. But that is just your average SATA controller.
If it was a Mac Pro the thread could and should have been moved to another forum. And you still refer to this as a Mac Pro, not PowerMac. Which leads me to wonder.
Molex y-splitters as needed in a G5 but three yrs for a set of drives, I'd say they were due for backup + erase/initialize and restore. Hopefully you kept them in shape with Disk Warrior during that time (don't rely on just Apple First Aid to maintain and repair/rebuild directories).

  • My mid 2007 24" is starting to have random shutdowns. Maybe heat related? Fans are working.

My 2007 iMac has started to shutdown randomly. The longer I use it the more frequent the shutdown happen. I can hear the fans working but the top of the computer is very warm. Is there over heating protection on these iMacs?

  • Computer gets to hot to touch but fans are working OK

My macbkpro17 is 5 years old and a few months ago I replaced the hard drive. Recently the display on scrolling gives distorted images as well as the bar code effect. It freezes a lot and gets very hot. CPU reaches 80c but fans seem to be working. case gets hot. have run tests and it comes up with no faults detected.
    Any ideas please.

If yours is the "Late 2007" (MacBookPro3,1 in System Profiler) or the "Early 2008" (MacBookPro4,1) your video issues could be due to a known defect---not heat---for which there is a no-cost repair program. See this Apple article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
For final diagnosis that determines if you get the free logic board replacement, you must take the computer to an Apple Store or AASP so they can run a specific test you cannot do at home. If it fails their test, you get a new logic board.
The one sticking point is the replaced hard drive. If it's obvious to them that the HD is not the original and you cannot show evidence (work order or receipt) taht an approved shop did the work, they could refuse to work on it.

  • SSIS job to check if SSAS cubes are working

    Hi all,
I am having some management problems and need to prove that the cubes are available for browsing.
I have had a look at SSIS to see if there is a task but I suspect I need to script something out.
Can anyone give me any pointers ?
    Many thanks.

I found it easiest to set up a linked server between sql server and analysis services then wrote some sql to pull out a status update query for all the cubes in the database
    SELECT
    CAST(CUBE_Name AS VARCHAR(150)) AS Cube_Name
The below code is used to convert UTC time code to local time
,CAST(DATEADD (hour, DATEDIFF(hour, GETUTCDATE(), GETDATE()), LAST_DATA_UPDATE) AS DATE)
    AS Day_Last_Updated
    ,CAST(CAST(CONVERT(VARCHAR,CAST(DATEADD (hour, DATEDIFF(hour, GETUTCDATE(), GETDATE()), LAST_DATA_UPDATE) AS TIME) , 109) AS TIME(0)) AS CHAR(8))
    + ' ' +
    RIGHT(CONVERT(VARCHAR,CAST(DATEADD (hour, DATEDIFF(hour, GETUTCDATE(), GETDATE()), LAST_DATA_UPDATE) AS TIME) , 109),2)
    AS Time_Last_Updated

  • Not sure if fans are on/working?

have had a refurbed pbg4 17" - it seems to get quite hot - sometimes use it in bed on top of a piece of wood - this gets warm and goes thru to my legs.
Cant here a fan noise nor can i feel any wind around the notebook - is there a way to find out/test the fans - would re-booting into safe boot 9holding shift key down till fans blow) be the solution.
is there also a way to find out the temp the laptope is working at?

The easy way to test if the fans are working is to run the Apple hardware test. Find the OS X DVDs that came with your system, and insert the one that says, in small print on the DVD label 'AHT Version x.x'. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow pointing to the right, and follow directions. You'll hear the fans come on when it tests them, or you'll get an error message if there's any issues. If you didn't get a set of OS X DVDs with your system, Apple will sell you a set for a nominal value, just contact Apple support.
To measure system temps, you can find several at http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/
