Way to check stats on bit rate versions streamed?

Does anyone know if Flash Media Server has a function that allows you to see statistics on which particular streams are being delivered? 
Seems like that would be a handy tool in determining which bitrates are important to continue providing, and which are superfluous, and if it's time to try encoding at higher bit rates.

You may like to monitor the access.00.log file to find out what streams are being delivered by FMS at what time.

  • Multi-platform delivery of Adaptive Bit Rate Video Streaming Utilizing Captivate Video Player

    We are leveraging SCORM for our Learning Management System. In as much, we are delivering content to 7,000+ individuals using both iOS and Android/PC; as well as desktop, laptop, tablet, phablet, and smart phone. The question is this, because the internet speed and bandwidth vary we have to leverage Adaptive Bit Rate Streaming. Currently we're using Amazon Web Services Adobe Media Server to Stream our files however if we upload differing bit rates we aren't able to enter in a URL/URI/HTTP with the xml manifest file instructing the player to determine A; if the content is for iOS or Android/Microsoft and B; it's not determining a specific file, put simply whatever we upload is streamed as flash, using RTMP protocol which doesn't work with any Hand-held device because it uses flash (not available on phones) which means that we need to utilize HTTP, but it doesn't matter what I enter into captivate, the streaming service is still utilizing flash. Anyway, moving forward. Here is the solution we need and we've been asking for months now but no one seems to have any idea how to explain the limitations of captivate, or the workaround, or the proper way to leverage captivate to this purpose.
    So, how, using Adobe Captivate 8, can I stream a video, using Adaptive Bit Rate Transcoding/Encoding (without using YouTube) to deliver my training to ANY device?
    While the adobe media server is great there is no clear instruction on how you create one file extension/address that will link to either F4V, MPEG4, or m3u8. (HDV, HDL respectively)
    Secondly, how do we get this to utilize the Adaptive Bit Rate - being that it is the sole purpose we purchased the not so inexpensive Adobe Media Server?
    Need an answer to this as soon as possible as this is completely and totally killing our work flow and LMS development and frankly, the Captivate videos, tutorials, and PDF manual do little discuss this in any technical fashion. Looking forward to your response. Many thanks

    I do not know much about captivate...But i will let you k now AMS perspective( I hope it adds value)
    if your end users are on PC/desktop they can use Flash player and hence rtmp streaming for AMS would suffice the needs...
    All you mobile users are much likely to be consuming http streaming content and hence you must use Adobe media servers HDS/HLS streaming service.
    Same stream can be used for http as well as rtmp streaming...albeit in case of live stream, the http will have some delay(about 30 seconds in thedefault setup)) as compared to rtmp.
    As for adaptive bit rate streaming, it can be done both on rtmp as well as http connection and they are (configuring them is) separate and independent of each other. There are sections on Adobe help on how to configure adaptive but rate streaming in Adobe media server.

  • How to check for 12-bit versus 16-bit audio?

    Several hours of my first digital recordings were done with 12-bit audio (factory default). Later I changed the camera's settings to 16-bit, but I'm not sure when I did that.
    Is there a way to check the audio bit-rate of a clip if the camera doesn't display that information? I'd like to periodically check the imported clips to determine when I started recording with 16-bit audio, because at that point I'll need to change the Easy Setup settings in FCE.

    Unfortunately not. FCE assumes you set the easy setup correctly and will capture the audio as if it's that sampling rate. It's unfortunate that some cameras don't display this. If you capture fairly short segments, around 10 minutes, you should be able to get away with it however, especially if you don't capture across a TC break.

  • IPod not playing re-ripped tunes with higher bit-rates

    Since I got my iPod and have more storage I have been slowly re-ripping some of some tunes at a higher bit rate. iTunes doesn't appear to try to sync these songs and re-upload them to the iPod.
    What happens is that the song stops playing part-way through the song. My guess is that it is due to the file size of the old (lower) bit-rate, as if it still thinks the EOF is at the same spot even though the file is now larger. It's almost as if the index doesn't get updated properly somehow.
    I've tried deleting all the songs on the iPod and even doing a restore, but that doesn't always fix it. Some songs do it, some don't.
    I know the rips are good because I can play them all the way through with either iTunes or Media Player.
    Any help on getting it to sync them properly?

    I assume that I have to re-rip the songs at the higher bit rate, unless there is Is there an easy way to do that without re-ripping them. 
    Assuming you want the higher audio quality (and not just a puffed up version of the same low quality track) you will have to re-rip from the CDs.
    Also, what happens to the lower bit rate songs in my playlists, especially if I delete the lower bit rate versions from my library?
    Under certain conditions, iTunes will recognize the CD and ask you if you want to replace the existing versions.  Say yes, and the rip process will automatically do the replace.
    In case it does not ask, just go ahead and rip, and then do the replacements manually.

  • How to check replication stream queue or rate of streaming

    Hi folks,
    Is there a way of checking the replication stream queue, and the rate that it is sending the data from one database to the other? Is there a log file that I could look at to see that streaming is happening?
    Currently I am checking that streaming is happening by checking the sizes of both databases, to verify that this is changing. However, this is not accurate, since some of the data changes are modifies rather than additions / deletions.
    When I do 'repadmin -status', the queue sizes is 0. Is this a known Oracle issue?:

    V$STREAMS_CAPTURE -> Rate of enqueue
    V$STREAMS_APPLY_READER -> Rate of dequeue

  • Managing two bit-rates per song

    Is there an easy way to manage two bit-rates per song? I wish iTunes would do this itself, under the covers. Similar to versions in Aperture. What I want is to keep an Apple Lossless version for Apple TV, but have a low bit-rate version for my iPhone and iPod (due to space limitations). I know I can store two versions of the same song but they are treated as two songs, so if I change a rating or a keyword it happens only to the one song. Or I have to manage two versions of the same playlist. Etc.

    The short answer is no, theres no good way to do what you want. This has been a shortcoming of iTunes for years. Those of us interested in having a lossless library were forced to use lossless on out mobile devices, which doesn't make sense at all, or to maintain two parallel libraries.
    What you guys really want is called on the fly transcoding. The idea is you store a high quality version (ideally lossless) of the track on your computer and that when this track is to be synced to a device it is transcoded to a more efficient format.
    This is something that most media players have been doing for years, and yet Apple shows no interest in implementing such a feature.

  • Menu Bit Rate

    I'm using DVD Studio 2 and I have an m2v file and AC3 audio for my menu with titles over it. Very basic. But my bit rate is way too high. When I check my menu bit rate a bit rate viewer it says my nominal bit rate is 8 MB per sec, but I have my settings in DVD SP set to 5.5 max and target. The original m2v file I'm using was encoded with ProCoder and had a nominal bit rate of 6.2. What can I do to make sure I don't have such a high bit rate. For when we duplicate the master DVD we have shudders and pixelation in the menu, even though the master plays just fine. I need it to be lower for our duplicator.

    Wow, so it is the titles then. Yeah, I wondered because I have made other DVDs with DVD SP 2 before, but never actually added titles to it, Just menu and play buttons. So the buttons don't really affect the Bit rate too much, but the titles do. Man, thanks so much. I think I have a really good idea on how to fix that then. Like you said, go put those titles in using Final Cut or Avid. Nice, thanks.

  • Re-ripped content and uploading higher rate version

    I have been re-doing albums which haven't been matched and which have been ripped originally at 128kbps. I have re-ripped at a higher bit rate. How do I tell whether itunes has done what it should have done and uploaded the replaced tracks with the higher bit rate version? Some of the re-ripped tracks also matched when they hadn't before. Additional cds added after itunes match enabled do get ripped then matched or uploaded at the higher rate. The 'run itunes match' doesn't seem to make it change anything.
    The match system has mostly been painless apart from one matched track failing to download of 3500 matched ones. How do I report a failed download or is it done automatically?
    There isn't a view option to see icloud bit rate to distinguish between versions.
    Is the easiest way to delete the re-ripped album with 'delete from cloud' and then drag it back in from the trash if it hasn't uploaded the better version automatically?

    Ok, so to ensure that you have the higher quality Song uploaded:
    1.  Copy your higher quality Songs from iTunes to local folder;
    2.  Delete Songs in iTunes, including 'delete in iCloud' option;
    3.  Allow 6-12 hours for iTunes Match servers to synchronise (ensuring original really has gone from iCloud);
    4.  Turn iTunes Match off;
    5.  Import Songs from folder;
    6.  Turn iTunes Match on - allow it to complete the 3-step process.

  • [Bug] iOS 5.1 missing covers after "convert higher bit rate songs to" with iTunes 10.6

    All my music has covers in iTunes Library. But after i updated to iOS 5.1 they are missing on my devices.
    It happens every time i check "convert higher bit rate songs to 192/256 kbps" on iTunes 10.6 (40) on my Mac.
    On the screenshot (iPad 2010 running iOS 5.1) Bon Iver's album copied by default settings, and Coldplay's album converted to 192 kbps.
    BTW on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) all covers are OK even when convert feature is ON.

    I have solved it by unchecking (momentaneously till apple fix it) the "Convert higher bit rate songs" option.
    I know that it need more space but i don't have too much music synced so.. it isn't a problem for me..
    I have this problem because i'm using the "manually manage music and videos", i'm not using the auto sync option because iTunes always try to copy my new apps to my mac even having that option unchecked...
    Now we have iCloud... i don't know why apple still have not deleted this feature!
    Anyway... i have solved it momentaneously.
    Apple.... come on!

  • How do I adjust audio bit rate in MPEG-2 Program Stream?

    I don't see any way to adjust the audio bit rate in the MPEG-2 Program Stream setting in Compressor 3.5.3.  I need a specific bit rate of 224 KBps within an MPEG 1 Layer 2.

    AFIAK, there is no way within the preset adjustments to change the audio – either in 3.5 or 4.0
    Try this for a work-around. Choose the MPG-1 setting, open Inspector and disable Video. Adjust the audio rate to 224 in the Audio tab. Submit and you should get an audio stream. In a separate job choose the MPEG-2 settings. Open the Inspector>Encoder Tab>Extras and deselect multiplex. Submit and Compressor should spit out an MPEG-2 video stream. You should be able to multiplex them in Mpeg Streamclip. (The files need  to have the exact same name prior to their respective extensions.)

  • Any way to limit bit rate like the Shuffle G2?

    I didn't find this in searching, so I'm asking if anyone knows of a way to limit the bit-rate of the song, like the iPod Shuffle G2 can (limits songs to 128 bit AAC if that option is checked). That would be greatly appreciated with such limited capacity.
    I also miss the ability to drag a bunch of songs to the iPhone as you can with the G2 Shuffle. Having to create playlists should be the option, not the rule; so PC to have to do the playlist thing.

    At this time that is not a feature included with iPhone. It will match the bit rate of the songs in itunes.

  • Unwanted automatic decrease in bit-rate upon saving. How do I fix this?

    Hello all,
    After a recent, unexpected computer crash, Audition seems to have lost all of my previously programmed presets and preferences causing one quirk in particular I wish to fix as soon as possible.  Please help!!
    When working with any MP3 file, as I make changes to the file in Edit view and simply hit ctrl+s, every time I do so a message prompt comes up saying "You may be saving to a compressed (lossy) format. Be sure to keep a backup of your original file if you wish to preserve full audio fidelity."  After that, it proceeds to save the changes while at the same time decreases the bit-rate of the file to between 80-96kbps down from 128, 192, etc.  It has never done this before, usually it would just make the save without altering the bit-rate also.  I'm searching the menus everywhere to find a checkbox that I may have had un-checked before but has gone back to the default since the crash, but can find nothing.  I really do not want this automatic downsampling to continue, in order to get around it I have to Save As every time, which makes for a lot more work having to delete the old copies and keep track of which are the edited versions I wish to keep.  I work with tons of files, so this gets difficult.
    I am using Adobe Audition 3.0 Build 7283.0 on a Vista PC.

    Thank you for your prompt reply.  Ah yes, I am aware of such a feature in the mp3 options menu, but do you know why my copy of Audition is behaving in this way and how I can get it back to the way it was?  Saving As does save the file with the criteria I prefer, but it creates an extra copy that I'd like to avoid since cleaning up the previous versions of each file that are no longer needed can take a lot of work since the folders that contain them I work with are very large, having to be searched by hand to remove the unedited copies.
    As where if I hit Save before it would just overwrite the file avoiding creating two of the same file (one with edits the other without), leaving its bit-rate intact instead of reducing it by as much as half at times. Having that aspect of Audition working again would be very helpful!

    for motion menus) is 1001 seconds (the book told me
    to break it down into secon ds).
    As far as the bit rate, I checked it and am exporting
    currently to a max of 5 with an average of 4.5 (for
    the video).
    The audio is AIFF all the way, I think encoding in
    Dolby is something a newer version fo compressor
    does. I have FCP 4.5 with DVDSP 3.
    I did export the audio as PCM AIFF, didn't shrin kthe
    size in fact enlarged it slightly.
    Do you figure if I have a bit rate max of 5 on video
    with 3 1.5 bit rate audio tracks, I'll be all right?

    With your version of FCP & DVDSP, you'll need to encode the audio into Dolby Digital 2.0 with A.Pack, which is a separate program on your hard drive. With Final Cut Studio, Apple did away with A.Pack and merged its functionality into Compressor.

  • Dropped frames while using multi bit rates in Flash Media Encoder 3

    I’m using the Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3 to stream live video to a host computer at 200 Kbps.  At the same time, I’m saving a copy to my hard drive at 350 Kbps. The live stream signal seems to be ok.  The saved stream has dropped frames.  Total bandwidth is about 615 Kbps.  I’ve looked at performance marking software to see if my hard drive is slow and to check my CPU speed. I can’t see what I need to save a better copy and still keep the live stream. 
    Is this just a need for more CPU speed? 
    The encoder is on a Dell Optiplex 360 Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @2.53GHz with 3GB RAM.  The hard drive is a 152GB IDE ST3160815AS.  It has write caching enabled on the disk.

    I saw your request for the log file in a different post.  This is one of them that was made from my encoding.  I don't see any answers in it.
