Way to "fit to disc" a movie longer than 2 hours?

Is this possible in iDVD 08? If not, how to go about it in Toast? If the movies in question are NOT VOB / VIDEO_TS folders from a DVD, etc. but are .avi for instance?
Thanks, Deborah

This is possible in Roxio Toast (Fit to Dvd option) and DVDSP but not iDvd since the latter app doesn't yet have a fit to DVD option per se.
Let me qualify this in that iDvd can at times allow for a few minutes over and above the advertised 2 hour limit; depending on other items added or not to the finished Dvd (for example, motion menus, slideshows, data to the dvd-rom section, etc.) All of these consume disc space and thereby reduce available run time and disc space.
On a separate note, is it possible to trick iDvd?
I know for a fact it is. But not always with anticipated / expected results. Hence the recommendation not to exceed 120 mins. max (2 hours) for best results. If you do not follow this recommendation, then the quality of playback will suffer significantly.
So what do I mean by tricking iDvd?
Let me give an example. In prior versions of iDvd media choices were once limited to single layer DVD-R (minus media mainly). + Plus media was reserved for data. And using DVD-RW was nearly out of the question (due mainly to low surface reflectivity of this particular media). However, we quikly learned that it was to possible to write to DVD-RW media through what we called a "bait and switch" operation.
When the drive prompted us to insert the dvd-r into the S-Drive after hitting the burn button in iDvd, .... we would. But a few seconds later, once it accepted the dvd, we'd simply hit the eject key again (or F12) prior to stage 4 burn cycle and remove the dvd-r in favor of Dvd-RW. Worked fine most of the time like a charm. Did apple recommend this at the time? Probably not.
In this vein, I will offer up the following link for your own consideration:

  • HT201472 Is there any way how to find out where a particular device was when it last went online if longer than 24 hours ago?

One Mac Book Air was stoilen frm me, I can still see it on Find my Iphone and can see that it has been renamed. The computer was offline for longer than 24 hours, so I am wondering if there is any way how I can find out it's last online location?

No, you cannot find out where the computer has been. Find My Mac only shows you were the computer is right now if it is online.
I strongly recommend you change all your internet passwords immediately, notify the police (do not try to recover your MBA yourself), and your insurance company so you can get reimbursed and buy a new Mac. Once you have done all this go back to Find My Mac and click the "Erase" button.

  • Can we record for longer than 1 hour 6 minutes?

There are lectures that go longer than 1 hour and 6 minutes, the default in my version of Garageband.
Is there a way to keep it recording for longer than that?
    Thanks!

  • Reader X failing on Save and Save As, after the form has been opened for  longer than an hour.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen or maybe can offer a solution. I have several Dynamic XML forms designed in LiveCycle ES2 v9 that since our ministry switched to Reader X have been failing. At first, the save button greys out (even though new information has been inputed) and the form will only save as. Then the save as function will start to fail if the form is left open.
Our users are running Reader 10.1 on Windows Vista and so far its only users that have left it open longer than two hours, or over night. These forms have been Reader extended and at first save without issue.
Unfortunately, just telling the users not to leave it open isn't an option. We just need Reader X to work.
Thanks in advance for any information you can share about this.
    ~Connie

    Hi Kyle,
Yes there is a lot of code within the forms. Mostly adding instances, and changing the presence on subforms. These particular forms do not have data connections, or execute any code from a server. The script all runs at the client level.
I'm checking with the form content owners to see if I'm allowed to post any of them. If they give the okay then I'll put a sample up here.

  • Cannot burn DVD in Premier Elements 10 longer than 1 hour in Length

I cannot figure out why I have to limit my DVD projects to no more than 1 hour in PE 10.  As long as I keep the timeline to 1 hour or less, the DVD burns just fine.  If I try a project over 1 hour - 1 hour, 10 minutes for example - it compiles everything, starts to burn (from all appearances), suddenly says burning is complete, and I have a blank disc.  If I try to burn the same file into either a 4.7 or 8.5 GB folder, the same thing happens, and the folders I want the file to burn to is blank.  I have a 64 bit system, 6GB RAM, and plenty of hard drive space.  I've tried setting the burn to "fit into available space" and also selecting most video( therefore lowest quality), and still, if it's over 1 hour, it will not burn.  Any thought?

Perhaps it would have been better if you started your own new thread on the specifics of your situation.
    But lots of questions.
    1. On what computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 7 and 10?
    2. When you say for version 10 "will not write to DVD or to a folder", where are you blocked...
    a. burner is not recognized in burn dialog
    b. transcoding errors
    c. device errors
    d. disc not recognized
    e. goes to 99% and then nothing
    f.  other
In the case of burn to folder, everything above except a, c, and d
Do you have Nero or any other burn software installed on this computer? And, the old question "Is your computer optimized?"  I ask this in spite of the fact that you do state that Premiere Elements 7 burn to DVD is working on the same computer. What are we looking at in terms of computer resources?
Have you reviewed the Adobe document on burn to disc troubleshooting?

  • Bug when encoding f4v videos longer than ~ 1 hour ?

    Folks,
We're getting a strange problem with Adobe Media Encoder.
We encode a long (slightly more than 1 hour) f4v video
and Adobe Media Encoder reports that the file encoded
successfully with no errors. But when we scrub through
the video (i.e., move the play head from start to finish),
the video hangs early in the video.
The source video in original H.264 Quicktime format
works perfectly and is known to be OK. We have plenty
of disk space and memory, so that is not an issue.
We do not have this problem when encoding shorter f4v videos
(even slightly less than 1 hour). Does Adobe Media Encoder
have a bug when encoding f4v videos longer than about 1 hour?
    Is there a workaround?
    Thanks in advance,
    Raja.

You can remove them from the iMovie timeline and replace(?) I believe iMovie plays the full quality video (there is an option on how iMovie previews the clips) but doesn't FCE play a lower resolution version? If you are not using the Highest Quality version in iMovie, what happens when the project is exported to Quicktime or iDVD? Does the video still studder?

  • Can I create a project longer than 2 hours?

It's frustrating that APple has created this program with an arbitrary limit of 2 hours to a project. Is there a way to put more than 2 hours on a single disk?

    Scott F wrote:
.. with an arbitrary limit of 2 hours to a project. Is there a way to put more than 2 hours on a single disk?
    No.
2h on a 4.7GBs disk lowers the bitrate to 2MB/sec.. which is very low in terms of pic quality..
other tools as Toast or the not-avail-anymore VisualHub claim to fit upt to 18 (eighteen!) hours on a single disk - which results watching movin' Lego bricks.. (=artifacts) ..

  • Password Reset Emails take longer than 6 hours to arrive, expired once they finally show up

HelloI have searched the boards and found instances of people with the same problem, but no solutions. I have been going back and forth with skype support, but all they send me are canned responses with the same useless instructions over and over..... and despite my requests to read and actually reply, or to elevate my questions to a supervisor, all I get are canned responses over and over again. The bottom line is my wife forgot her skype password, we attempt to request a password reset token be sent, said token takes longer than the 6 hours validity period to arrive and is useless by the time we get it, then we are prompted to enter her email for another reset token, which takes more than 6 hours to arrive, completing this ridiculous circle... Advise, ideas, help are all greatly appreciated Thanks

Bad news.I spent the last 4 days going back and forth due to the same issue. The email arrives after 3 hours (should we consider an improvement?) but at the time I check the email, the token is expired so I need to re-initiate the process. Very annoying and not up to today's industry standards for password recovery. Even banks take 10 minutes the most... Bottom line, Skype says this is an issue they recently expereienced. Based on the previous post, the term RECENTLY is very vague.

  • Battery issues, it is not holding up longer than 3 hours

my mac air's battery life isn't lasting as long as apple claims it should. i've been keeping a close eye on it as of late, and i 've determined that there is definitely something off with the battery life of my computer. i should also mention that main use for this computer is web.

    Hi Sherwin,
Apple "claims" that you'll get up to 7-hours of wireless connectivity usage. So 3-hours would technically fall under this category as it's greater than 1 minute and less than 7-hours. Based on your usage and what sort of web surfing you're performing, 3 hours off a full charge is not terribly unrealistic. Especially if the content is flash or multimedia intensive.
Can you elaborate on your "web" usage?

  • Why can't I burn a movie longer than 60 min

Don't know how to be concise on all this but I'll try. I have a 5.50 hour sd video thought mac and imovie would be great, but so far I've spent 35 hours and only have 1 hour of video on a dvd.
One thing I don't understand is the entire movie is 7.8 gbyt (5.50 hours long) I CANNOT BURN THIS IDVD will not allow me to burn the 5.50 hours. I've called Apple support and been told only burn 1 hour "comeon Micosoft got you guys beat. I already edited and burned this entire video on a p.c. with the help of a third party software burning program called xdvd. I used IMovie and the xdvd for the burn. Another problem is space, the movie (after it becomes an event without any editing ) take up 103 gbyt WHY???? The raw movie is only 7.8 gbypt. My entire h.d. is only 320 so this becomes a problem UNLESS YOU CAN BURN THE SUCKERS.
Imovie is very complicated and is not straight forward, I don't know if it would help to use the "compression" I've tried to find this in a manual and don't know what its for?
Does anyone know good manual to buy for either imovie and idvd?? I WISH I HAD NEVER BOUGHT THIS MAC I bought strickly for editing my videos.

    This is a user forum.
I can see your frustrated, but yelling at other users won't help.
This forum is for mobile iMovie (iPhones, iPad e.t.c).
you may need the iMovie Mac forum:

iDVD can burn up to 120 minutes as a DVD.
There are more DVD encoding apps that can make longer videos.
But 5.5 hours on one DVD will be very low quality.
I recommend you break it up into 2 hour parts and burn if you can.

  • I pay for a movie , i got charge and the movie has taken longer than one hour to load.

How quick is apple to change you and the movie is not sreaming .
    <Subject Edited by Host>

Your internet is likely slow or other users are accessing internet content at the same time.
    You need:
    2.5 Mbps for SD
    6 Mbps for 720p
    8 Mbps for 1080p
Any slower and AppleTV has to buffer the movie before starting in order to prevent it sopping/starting during playback.
AppleTV does not stream in the sense you think - Netflix adapts quality to match internet speed - AppleTV doesn't and has fixed size rentals with fixed quality.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 does not import EX1 files longer than 1 hour

I had to record a long speech and used a Sony XDCAM HD EX1 camera with a 32 Gb and a 16 Gb SXS cards. The speaker paused after 1h 26 min. I stopped the recording and waited until the green light that allows recording the segment came on. Later I recored smaller segments.
I copied all the recorded files to the PC hard disk ( Intel Quad Core 2.4 Ghz with 3.25 GB RAM with XP Proofessional SP3).
I used Sony Clip browser to watch the clips and all of them were perfect. Then I opened premiere Pro CS4 4.21 and I wanted to import this 27 GB file. In the media browser appeared only one mp4 file. All the short ones where imported normally but the big one freezed premiere and the only way to close premiere was with the windows task manager.
I checked again in the Sony XDCAM clip browser version 2.6 and you can see it perfectly. There was a detail, though: in the lower part of the preview window I saw 6 marks. When I checked the file in the disk, I found that the 27 Gb file was separated in 7 parts. Each of them was 3.51 Gb and the last one 2.5 Gb. That means that the file was cut in pieces that were less than 4Gb supposed max file lenght.
I tried many ways to import and no result. The I used the "export " of the sony clip browser. There is one choice that is "MXF for XDCAM HD". When I chose this item another panel appeared and showed a 1440 X 180 59.94i 25Mbps choice. I took it and after some time it created the 27 Gb file that I could import it normally with 4 audio tracks. But there is a drawback a "media concept" logo appeared to remeber to "buy" the program.
Anyhow, the question is: How can I import to Premiere CS4 a MP4 file created by a Sony EX1 HD camera whose lenght is more that 1 hour long ?
    Thanks
    Wolfgang

I think  is the contrary because the clip browser copies all the foleders needed. I got this opinion from another forum that copies into Final Cut:
"My workflow is to create a hard drive folder for the project, then use Clip Browser to import the clips from the card. I review the clips, labelling them, adding logging notes, setting the status and putting in essence marks as needed (the number of characters available for the essence mark description is fairly limited). I then open FCP, create and save a new project then call up XDCAM Transfer. I select the project folder and it will pull in all the clips. I then filter for OK status, occasionally create subclips then import. The clips come over to the bin, with their names and with the essence marks converted to markers. Obviously there are backups taken - I've not mentioned them."

  • Can my podcast be longer than an hour?

I have been stringing together several mp3 files, on one track, to compose a podcast that contains all the different segments. Everything was going well until I hit the hour marker. There is a little purple triangle at the top of my timeline and the software won't allow me to move it beyond the one hour point.
So how do I overcome this so I can make a podcast as long as I want?
    Thanks.

  • No audio if AE comp is longer than one hour

    Hello,
whenever I send the AE composition to AME, I'll have a muted part. If the composition is 1 hour and 15 mins long, the first 15 mins will be muted and if it is 1 hour long it'll be totally fine. I want to make a DVD and using two compositions is not an option. So, please help me

    Hello,
Still no solution for the problem.
Last evening I deleted the Realtek Network Adapter from the Device Manager, then uninstalled the driver from Add/Remove Programs. I used CCleaner to find any Registry errors (they were none). Rebooted and re-installed the drivers (the adapter was already detected in the Device Manager).
Used again CCleaner (no errors of any kind in the Registry), then re-configured IP, gateway and DNS server in the IPV4 settings. Still no luck, only with that unique cable the netbook was detected by the switch. It stayed connected for almost 4 hours without any failure (skype and browsing), before I turned off the netbook.
I start to believe it may be something physical with the adapter's RJ45 plug: the connectors seem a bit loose and moving after I plug them, only that one cable has connectors that attach firmly to the socket.
So far, I have no more ideas to try, I did all the tricks I know.
So, I'm open to suggestions, (other than "take it to service". I have to leave the country next wednesday for a week, the service has 15 working days to solution the problem, and I have no replacement for the netbook).
    Any new ideas?
    Regards,
    Bogdan

Doesn't sound normal to me. If you are under warranty I would get it checked out.
