Way to force .pdf to open in Reader and not in browser

I saw where there was an Acrobat action called
Convert PDF2FDF auto-save Action on the AcrobatUsers.com Action Exchange.
which didn't work, it came in corrupted and unusable.  Does anyone know of an action or anything that will force a .pdf hosted online to open in the visitor's Reader program and NOT the browser they are in...?  No matter what browser.
Any help you can give me with this is appreciated.   Looking for a consistent user experience here where they can fill in the information on the pdf form, save it and email it without too much hoopla.
I am really surprised after all of the work I've put into this that this is not something that is more easily accomplished, but perhaps I am doing something wrong or don't have enough information.
Thanks!
Ruth

Actions can be tricky, Are you aware that the method of encoding Actions or Batch Processes changed between versions 9 and 10 and again between 10 and XI?
What version of Acrobat are you using?

  • How to make .pdf's open in Reader and NOT Photoshop

I am using Adobe Reader X, v 10.1.1 with Vista.  I also have Adobe Photoshop installed.  When I try to open a .pdf file, it automatically opens in Photoshop instead of Reader.  Is there a setting I can change somewhere to ensure that pdf's automatically open in Reader instead?
    Thanks!

If you are using Windows XP. you can do the following (any other OS will probably be similar).
Highlight a PDF on your drive. Right-click, choose "Open with>Chose program". Select Reader then click the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

  • Open PDF in full Reader and not web browser

    Hi
I am currently designing an internal help page with PDF forms - Is there anyway to open a pdf web page link in Internet explorer and open the PDF in the full Adobe x reader and not the internet browser version from inside the form itself?
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
Try to turn off the below mentioned feature from Reader and Acrobat (If both on your computer)
    Edit > Preferences
    Click Internet Category
Uncheck " Display PDF in Browser "
Let me know if that helps.

    Hi
If possible yes I'd like to specify in the form for it to open in the full reader.

  • Reg key to set PDF opening in Reader and not the web browser

Is there a reg key which would apply to all users/computer (not just current user, Hkey_user) to set a variable that would open PDF's in the actual Adobe Reader program and not in a web browser.
I only find references to reg key's that apply to the current users logged in, but unfortunately I work in an education facility and we use Dynamic user id's which creates a new user each time in windows, and then removes the profile on logout
    Thanks in advance,

Would you suggest downloading the Adobe Customization Wizard and creating an MST file to distribute the app?  If so, do you have documentation on where to change this setting?

  • .pdf will open in Reader, but not Adobe Acrobat 8.0

I have a large document that was created in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and apparently the file was damaged (it's also 4.5 GB). I can open it in Adobe Reader 9, but when I try to open it in Acrobat, it shuts the program down and there is no history of it being opened. I've tried opening it back up in Acrobat 6.0, but it says the file is damaged. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to remake the document?

I do not know how you created the PDF. You might try going back and printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Open AA6 and then select the file that way. Does this work?

  • Open Adobe Reader and not Acrobat in browser

I just installed the now freelaý available Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 and in my browers PDF files are now opened in that one.
But I intend to use it only for editing PDFs. Since it is not the newest version, I would for security reasons prefer to have Adobe Reader open PDFs in my browsers, since it will always be the newest version.
How can I keep Acrobat and still have the Reader open the files?
    A plugin or some setting?

It IS now freely available FROM ADOBE: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/ , with serial number and all! And it was activated by Adobe after I installed it! No crack, no hack... (At least this is available in Europe, maybe not in the US?.)
But plesae advice how I can make Reader (latest version) open in the browser instead of Acrobat. There will surely be a way, such as, maybe, a change in the Registry,
In the Reader, there is an option Edit > Preferences > Internet, but it now points to Acrobat...
In Acrobat there is a similar option where I can mark "Display PDF in browser". It makes no difference if I mark or unmark it.
Normally, the Reader should have this option, too, but it has now been hijacked by Acrobat.
There  must be a way, please tell me...

  • Forcing pdf to open in current browser window

I have a pdf (that is to be viewed through a browser) with
links that open other pdfs. Currently, when I click on the links in
this pdf, they open the linked pdfs in a separate browser window.
Is there a way to force it to open in the same window and just have
users hit the back button to go back to the previous pdf?
    Thanks!

The latest version is 11.0.6. Whether that's available to you depends on the version of Mac OS you're running.

  • Hi I would like to know, how do I add a Hyperlink on Flash, that opens a PDF in adobe reader and not the web browser.

Hi I would like to know, how do I add a Hyperlink on Flash, that opens a PDF in adobe reader and not the web browser.

Yoh, what is FSCCommanr ? sorry man I am an absolute beginner in Flash. I tried the code:
/* Click to Go to Web Page
Clicking on the specified symbol instance loads the URL in a new browser window.
    Instructions:
    1. Replace http://www.adobe.com with the desired URL address.
       Keep the quotation marks ("").
    instance_name_here.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage(event:MouseEvent):void {
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.adobe.com"), "_blank");
this is the same code I used before and it opens a pdf file in a web browser, and it doesn't open an AutoCAD file.

Could you please share the error message so that we can replicate at our end ?
Try repairing reader  once and see if that fixes the issue.

  • Help with opening Adobe Reader and downloading updates

I can not open Adobe .pdf files any longer (this started yesterday, prior to that I could open adobe files).
When I double click a .pdf file I get this notice on my screen: Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file.
So I went to the Adobe download site to download a new copy of Adobe.  When I start the download I get this on the screen:  The instruction at "0x0e3a0068" referenced memory at "0x0e3a0068."  The memory could not be written.  Then two options are listed: click OK to terminate or cancel to debug.  So I click on cancel and I get this on my screen: Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer.   A malfunctioning or malicious addon has caused I.E. to close this webpage.
I don't have AVG running, I do have avast but I've disabled it.  I ran Registry Mechanic and an I.E. erasure program but nothing helps.
I have gone into I.E. and reduced the security level to its lowest state but no joy.
So, any ideas or suggestions on what's the problem and how to overcome it would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance, for your reply.  Jim R.

Hi Mike..tried that as well but no joy.  A friend of mine was looking at it all and noticed that it was an I.E. thing as far as not letting me redownload the reader so I went to Mozilla Firefox and I could download a new version but....whenever I attempt to open a .pdf file I get that message, "Windows can not open the specified device, path or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Damn...this is irritating as I need to get to some of thos files as I need them for a Journal I'm working on as editor-in-chief.
It all worked just fine last Saturday but starting Monday when I was on my flight out to D.C.  no joy.
    Sigh...Jim R.

Under the help menu, there is an option to repair the installation of reader. Did you try that?
