Way to mimic DOS capture to file in Windows XP using NetWare print queue?

We have a Netware 5.1 network, and are trying to migrate our
workstations from Windows 98 to Windows XP Pro, but we are still using
a heavily customized and very necessary MS-DOS application. For many
things, including reports and other procedures, we typically use the
CAPTURE command to direct a printer port to a file (filename.txt). Wethen run a series or procedures and reports, and all output
accumulates in the filename.txt file until we close the file (end theCAPTURE).
Unfortunately, the CAPTURE command is not available in Windows XP. Sofar, we have not found a way to duplicate this print-to-file method in
Windows XP. We can setup a Generic printer in Windows XP that will
print to a file, but every time we print from the DOS window, Windowsprompts the user for a filename...so we must continually create new
files, instead of opening the print file and appending information
until we close the file.
There have to be other folks out there with this problem. Does anyoneknow how to direct an LPT port in a DOS window in Windows XP that
prints to a file until it is intentionally closed?
*** Is there a way to setup a NetWare print queue that prints to a
filename that can be changed on the fly? If we could do that, then itwould be possible to direct LPT1 to the print queue with "net use",
and the NetWare queue would handle the capture to file.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for all replies.

Can't you just create a windows printer and point that to a file?

  • Is there a way to send a large video file through email, not using websites?

    Hey guys,
Just wondering if there is an easy way to send a large video file through email, not using websites such as yousendit.com.
If anyone knows please respond, would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

No there isn't. Most all Email providers, whether your ISP or some other provider like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft with their Outlook.com or Office365 and Apple's own iCloud system, have a linit on the max size a email can be. Most are around 10MBs some slightly larger but if the vieo you want to send to someone it larger than that you will have to upload it to a website and then have the people you want to view it download it from that website.

  • Opening FCP captured HDV file in windows

Hello. I'm trying to take a HDV file I captured in FCP and open it in either Adobe Premiere 1.5.1 or TMPGenc for encoding into VC-1/WMV HD AP (I'd like to edit it in Adobe Premiere), and then put it through say...Scenarist.
I have not been able to open it in QT for Windows at all no matter what. I want to keep it as an HDV file and not reencode due to file space issues. I have intalled the HDV plugin for Premiere 1.5.1 however it doesn't open in anything at all, indicating it's not a Adobe issue.
What i suspect is that it's not opening because it's in a proprietary QT wrapper that Apple will not let anyone access to build a decoder around. Once captured on a mac it's obviously not a .avi format file regardless of codec used.
If this is not possible a simple 'no it's not possible' would easily suffice. I'm off to get some sleep. TIA.

Probably best practice to start and finish the project on the same platform.
Most of the HDV video codecs used in FCP do not have Windows counterparts. Soon FCP Suite will be updated to version 6 (maybe NAB convention).

  • InDesign files disappear from Epson SP R1800 print queue

I'm on a MAC OS 10.5.8 and using InDesign CS3 5.0.4. I have an Epson SP R1800. When I try to print an InD file it momentarily shows up in the printer queue, but then disappears and nothing happens. There are other printing issues, but we'll address these one at a time.
FYI: Earlier today I downloaded an Epson printer driver v. 6.12 (in an effort to troubleshoot) and installed the driver.
I also tried unplugging the USB cable, reselecting the R1800 as the default printer and restarted twice.
I can print PSD, MS Word and emails on the R1800 successfully. BUT NOT IND FILES.
    Desperate in Denver!

The following technote from Adobe might help you out, even though it's not specifically written for your version of InDesign, it might still help point you in the right direction.
Can't print to non PostScript Epson printer from Illustrator or InDesign -
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331376.html
Some other things you could try:
Create new TextEdit document, and try and print it (that confirms your printer is working properly to start out with)
Create new InDesign document, with just one line of text / one page and print it.
If the InDesign document is quite big (many images etc), try printing in smaller chunks, and send image data as Optimised Subsampling (Print dialog / General / Graphics)
If all else fails, you could try the PDF trick from the notes in the above link. E.g. create a PDF first, then print the PDF instead of the InDesign file.

  • Is there a way to find out ALL the files an FCP project uses?

Okay. Firstly, I'm an idiot. I don't know why, but at the START of the project, I didn't think I'd end up with so many little tiny bits and pieces... so I didn't really plan the organization of this thing. (My next project will be meticulously organized, I can assure you.)
But, here I am, and here's my problem.
I've got a pretty big project I've been working on for six months that's probably taking up 250 GB of space on my computer (spread over two 350 GB hard drives). It includes 125 GB of source footage, hundreds of little Motion projects (including various "drafts" of each one), PSD images, LiveType files, an assortment of Soundtrack Pro files, AIFFs, exported clips from all the various cuts of the project, etc etc etc. Stupidly, I always saved things in different folders, using a system and thought process that "seemed like a good idea at the time".
Problem is, now that I'm (nearly) finished with the thing, I need to archive the "final cut", and all it's many source files (such as Motion projects, which may need to be edited later if this project gets sold into foreign markets, etc).
Suddenly, I realize how important Organizational Skills really are.
But is there a way (simple or not-so-simple) to find out EVERY SINGLE FILE that's referenced on a timeline? (I have lots of stuff imported into the project that I know isn't used on any timeline, but I'm afraid of moving or deleting things for fear of never finding it again.)
I'd love to get some sort of "printout" (a list or something) of every single file.
The idea is, I would then move ONLY those files to a newly-organized filing system, which could be easily archived/backed-up. It would also be great to keep the RENDER files, too, so that I won't have to re-render everything when I pull it out of cold storage.
Am I dreaming an impossible dream?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

There is, go to browser and cntrl click on any one of the columns,
and select - show/source. A new column named "source" will pop up and will show where everything "lives". Click on the header at the top and it will justify the column as well. You'll notice this won't show anything for your seq.'s. of course, but will show stills/audio/motion files...
Once you have the new column, you can drag it next to the "name" column and get a grab of it and print it if you like, or whatever.
If you want to do this for just 1 seq., then can create a new bin and double click it to open it. Cntrl-A (select all) in your main seq. and just drag all into the new bin. You will see only what's in that seq. with the "source" column right next to it.
From what I've read, you seem to get the MM thing and it's obviously what you'll need to do to archive as the guys said. But what your missing is a file path system to where everything resides.
Hope this helps and that I've read you properly,

  • I have ordered the rMBP and will giving my old MBP (2010) to my girlfriend what is the best way to remove the programs and files that she wont use and make it her computer rather than my old one?

I have no real need to upgrade but as a student the price it would be silly not to.
I will be giving my MBP to my girlfriend but she wont use a lot of the software on there such as the final cut and CS5 and would rather use the space for her own iTunes library. Some will be kept on though like the old office suite as i have bought the 2011 one as well
Can I also remove myself as a user on the macbook so the only login is hers? I would rather it was her computer rather than my old one!
    Cheers in advance!
    Kobi

Hey, man, I'd be excited, too!
She'll have whichever operating system that came with your computer. Your updates are tied to your Apple ID so if you've purchased updated OS X versions, she'll want to reinstall them using her own Apple ID (yes, it will cost her something but not much).
Kappy's a know-it-all (and I mean that in the politest of terms) who's a frequent poster here. He has a 'canned' script about how to get your computer ready for resale. I guess he just doesn't have enough points yet to make it an User Tip, but it's a great little rundown of what to do.
BEFORE you erase everything, I would purchase (if you don't already have one) an external USB hard drive and use Time Machine to backup everything. When you startup your new computer (or afterwards if you just can't wait to see the clean, crisp text in TextEdit) you can use Time Machine to properly migrate all your files, apps and all, onto your new MBPR. If you're not familiar with Time Machine, see  http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html. Oh, yeah, since you have Office 2011, you'll need your activation code handy as, for some reason, the activation code does not carry over when you use the Time Machine restore. All Adobe, etc., apps are fine. It's just that damned MS Office that gets you.
Hopefully Kappy will jump in here. If not just post a message "Kappy: Preparing MBP for resell?" or something to that effect and I'm sure that he'll see it.
    Good luck,

  • NFS or FTP to Pick files from Windows Directory

    Hi All,
I am working of File to File Scenario. PI needs to pick a file placed in Windows Directory. I have configured the scenario as NFS and given the proper Folder path and file name. PI is not able to Pick the file. It is saying "Configured Directory Does not Exists".
Both PI (HP Unix) and Windows systems are in same network. Do I need to use FTP for this scenario? Is there any way to access the files in Windows Directory using NFS protocol?
    Thanks.

  • Is ther any way of filling credentials in Windows logon using script?

    Hello,
Is there any way to fill in login and password at windows logon using a script (that would be started via psexec)? Bat would be great, but any other is ok too. Nothing more, no mapping. Just logon.
I've spent a few days searching for this info, and haven't found any usefull info. Anyone tried such thing?
    Cheers,
    K.
PS. Sorry if I'm writing in the wrong section. Not shure where this topic should go.

There is no way to do this in Windows, Unix or any other system.
You can set a Windows account to "auto-logon" but only one account can be set per machine.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can I connect my MacBook to a DVD player to capture video files? The camera I am borrowing does not connect to computers and only spits out Mini DVDs. I tried to get the files off my work PC and they are in a .VOB format. Is there any other way I can get these files onto my Mac ASAP?

    No.
a computer needs digital 'files' or streams, a DVDplayer can not offer (few do...)
your problem is the SIZE of the disks: never ever put miniDVDs into slot-in drives! get finally damaged (the drive, not the disk). only 'workaround' is usage of an external, tray dvd drive..
converting a DVD into an editable format is a frequently question with dozends of options,... Search?

  • Possibility of capturing data file name in SQL * Loader

    Hi,
I have a requirement to capture the data file name in the staging table, is there a way that i can capture it in SQL * Loader or any other way of doing it.
    Need experts suggestion please.
    Thanks,
    Genoo

    Hi Genoo.
how do we capture the file name and stores in the temporary table
You may use the above command mentioned in my previous post (if Linux) to populate the Test.csv file with the available file name in the directory, i.e:
    ls /some/path/*.dat | xargs -n1 basename  > /home/oracle/Test.csv
    1. Ensure to first load the Test.csv file as for eg:
    1,aaa
    2,bbb
    3,ccc
    2. Create a control file to load these records into temporary tables, for eg:
    load data
    infile '/home/oracle/Test.csv'
    into table file_name_upload
    fields terminated by ","
    ( id, file_name )
    3. Create the respective table in the database:
    create table file_name_upload
      id number,
      file_name varchar2(20)
    4. Load the data into temporary table
    sqlldr test/test control=/home/oracle/sqlldr_test.ctl

  • Changing name of Capture Scratch files

My Capture Scratch files have a lot of untitled files although I named the project. I would like to rename them to match the project name but when I did this and tried to reconnect FCE insists that the file name be the same. Is there any way to change the name of these files?
    Thanks

If you are not using the clip files in a project, you can just change the file names via the Finder.
If you are already using the clip files in a project, you need to be careful when you change the file names because changing the file name does not change the clip name in the FCE Browser. You will need to manually change both names if you want to keep things straight.
You can change the name of the clip file via the Finder; and the clip name in the FCE Browser by selecting the clip name in the Browser window and editing the name.
You can also change the file names via the FCE Browser; Control-click the clip name in the FCE Browser and select 'Reveal in Finder'; you can then change the name of the clip file in the resulting Finder window. Then also change the clip name in the FCE Browser.
In the reconnect media dialog box, you will need to UNcheck the option called 'Matched Name & Reel Only" in order to point to the clip file whose name you changed.
In the future, give your clips unique names at the time you capture them.

  • Batch capturing jpg files

Using FCP 4 and want to capture over 3000 jpg files. The pictures will be 2 frames each to animate movement in the stills. Is there a way to batch capture these files from my hard drive into FCP?

First make sure they're all in a folder and numbered properly (0001, 0002, 0003, etc). In FCP, go to File-Import->Folder and navigate to the folder you want to import.
By the way, this is called importing - not capturing ... the images are already on your computer. It helps to call it what it is so everyone knows what you're talking about.
