Way to Turn Off Auto Backup every time iPod Touch connected to computer?

Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Is there a way to Turn Off Auto Backup when one connects iPod Touch to computer?
Auto backup to have started ever since 3.0 update.
Sometimes I am just adding one track from iTunes to my iPod.
Don't want to go through the 15-20 min. backup process each and every time.
1. I uncheck "Sync Applications," but the default seems to Check it each time I open iTunes.
2. Under iTunes/Preferences - Under "Devices" - I checked "Disable Automatic Syncing."
3. I always have Music, Movies, etc. unchecked under "Sync" as I prefer to Sync these manually.
So I am puzzled - why - when I plug in my iPod Touch, iTunes opens and automatically starts "backing up."

if you're familiar with the terminal, exit iTunes, open up a terminal window and type this:
"defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true" (without the qoutes)
and press return. That will disable the automatic backup, and you will NOT have a new backup if the device craps. Please remeber that.
To turn backup back on: exit iTunes, open up a terminal window and type this:
"defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false" (without the qoutes)
and press return.
Now the backup is turned back on.

Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and re-calibrate the Battery then see how it behaves, if it still does the same thing then I'd be calling Apple about a replacement.

  • WAV files resynch every time iPod is connected despite no changes to files

    Folks
I think the title pretty much explains my issue. Every time I plug my iPod Classic into iTunes, the software determines tracks to synch and re-synchs every WAV file I've imported and left checked. It has no problem with all 6,000+ mp3 files (they seem to synch fine), but repeatedly resynching the 200 or so WAV files I've got.
No fancy playlists or odd settings - iPod is pretty much stock and is set up to synch checked tracks only. Tried pretty much everything from uninstalling/reinstalling/repairing iTunes to hard reformatting and restoring the iPod. No change. It's almost as though the iPod is detecting changes to the WAV files on the laptop hard drive (like artwork has changed or something similar) and resynching every single time I reconnect.
Right now - and with only about 200 tracks - it's only taking about three or four minutes, but I'm converting most of my music to WAV format, so if it carries on like this the resynch time is going to increase exponentially . . . so I want to try and stop it now (and only synch updated tracks) before it gets out of hand.
Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
That means Time Machine isn't sure that what's on the drive is what it expects.
    Jun 29 09:58:11 Macintosh /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd1218: Node requires deep traversal:/Volumes/Photos and Videos reason:kFSEDBEventFlagMustScanSubDirs|
Because of that, it must do a "deep traversal," comparing everything on the volume to the backups.
How are you disconnecting this drive? If you're not ejecting it first, while a backup is not running, that can corrupt the data on it.
Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Also try repairing it, per #A5 in Troubleshooting.
See #A6 there for more detail on the messages.

  • Is there a way to transfer backups of an iPod Touch to another computer?

I'm transferring all my iTunes stuff to my new laptop. I already have the songs and apps transferred, but I want to also transfer my backup (passwords, app data, bookmarks, etc.). Where will this backup save to, and can I restore the backup when I restore my iPod on the new computer? Also, will things like in-app purchases still work after I restore? I don't want to lose all my DLC on various apps.
Also, I'm going to be updating from 3.something to 4.0 when I restore, if that makes a difference. I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen.
The older computer with my iPod backup is running Windows XP. My newer one is running Windows 7.

    Welcome to the discussions,
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. Passwords for Mail and Network have to be entered manually again, due to security reasons.
See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • HT1296 Is there any way I can transfer the music from my ipod touch to my computer without having to pay for it? Itunes worked fine with my ipod on my old laptop. I am not willing to risk losing all of the music on my ipod to update to the newest iOS.

I really don't want to lose all of the music I have on my ipod touch. It worked fine with my ipod and my old laptop but I got a new laptop and now it doesn't want to sync anything except purchases I made on the ipod and everything that was in the cloud. The rest of the music on my ipod is from old CDs and I am away from home. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some advice. I also don't really want to pay for a download that moves the music into itunes so if anything is free and safe that would be great or if there is a way to do it manually. Again thanks to anyone who has advice to share.

You would have to purchase a 3rd party program ( not supported by Apple).
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

  • Is There a Way To Turn OFF Auto-Correct?

I'm finally getting the hang of the virtual keyboard, but now it's taking me twice as long to post a text msg 'cause it keeps trying to correct me. Please help.

As the other poster mentioned, you cannot turn it off but it will learn (if you tell it).
As mentioned, if you type and know you typed the write letters but see another word trying to replace, tap the little X next to the suggested word.
When you do, here is what happens.
    1. If the word is already in the dictionary, it will increase the "rating/weight" on it. So over time it will become the suggested word for those letters. If the word it was suggesting is a very common word and yours isn't, this could take some time as it will slowly adjust the weights of each.
    2. If the word is NOT in the dictionary, it will add it and then it will be like number 1 above.
So remember, click the X when you see wrong words, don't just backup and try to retype, else it will never learn. Yes backing up and just fixing is sometimes easiere and after some time, is fine, once you taught it most of the common names/words you type.

  • HELP.. any way to turn off auto spelling for sms??

    see topic..
    thx in advance

You do know you can train your phone to know them and even end up suggesting them to you as you type?
Clicking the X on a suggestion means it will take your input instead. If the word never was in the dictionary before it will add it. Then if you keep telling it no on the suggestion a few more times, your word will become the default suggestion thus learing how you type. My phone already knows all my friends odd names, knows names of local hole in the wall bars, city names around me etc, that it didn't know before.
As for the gtg, brb, etc...well yes they are here because of SMS, but also here because people didn't have QWERTY keyboards.

  • Any way to turn off "compile at every save"?

For some reason when I go to save my file, a random project building event happens.
My project takes 2 minutes to build or so, so I'm forced to cancel the build, but it still takes 15-45 seconds.
How do I disable the project from building between saves?

Thank you bud.  This is helpful.
Any chance there will be an option to click,"[ ] Do no text processing", so I can have Flash Builder work just like Notepad or Scite.  I still have issues with type lag.  It is cumbersome to have to navigate through my file system and open the document in Scite so I can text edit.
