Way to Use PS CS File Manager's Flag Attribute in Bridge?

Greetings,
I have LOTS of images I have flagged in the old File Browser, and I want to somehow move that "information" forward to Bridge? How can I do this, other than manually using the old File Browser to let me see which files are flagged and then "ranking" them in Bridge? Is there *any* way to automagically "move" the old "flag" to a new Rank?
tnx
paul

Thanks, Arno. I cant seem to get this to work, here is what I do.
I start with a "clean" directory of D70 .nefs. I run the File Browser in CS, flag 3 of the files, and export the cache (I get a successful confirmation in FB and the cache files are present).
Now, I close CS, and run Bridge and point to this directory. Bridge runs to find all the files and generate previews (well, I guess Cam Raw does this!) but none of the flag'd files have a star assigned to them.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
tnx
paul

  • How to disable CD-DRIVE checking, while using a Dolphin file manager

    Hello.
I  would like ask for a help. I have one problem that's quite annoying. It is related to checking cd-drive when using a dolphin file menager. It always cheecks it when Dolphin is launched from K or launcher on taskbar for the first time, again it happens when i close it and open again.
Is there a way to disable checking of cd-drive in Dolphin? This behaviour occurs on KDE with all linux system that i checked: Slackware, Arch, Kubuntu. Look at this:
Disabling CD-DRIVE checking, while using a file manager
I would like to disable it in order to speed up opening Dolphin, launching it.

Udisks2 is what dolphin uses to handle external drives of all kinds (USB, optical, etc).  Udisks is an automounting tool that allows normal users to mount disks.  The permission handling before was handled with consolekit and has now been replaced by systemd-logind (which is much better anyway).  So what I am suggesting is that it might be that dolphin is using udisks2 as the tool that polls for the existence of a disc in your optical drive.
Unfortunately, it is a bit more confusing than that because udisks2 is the replacement for the original udisks.  It is totally different and not compatible.  So I remember seeing a way to turn off optical drive polling, but I cannot remember if it was udisks or udisks2.  But it was done with a udev rule.
So I think if you tried to google for "udisks optical (or cd or dvd) polling" or something like that, you might be able to figure out how this is done.
Edit: unfortunately, I do not use dolphin or udisks2.  But I do have the original udisks installed.
Edit2: It seems that the method I remembered is for the original udisks.

  • Anyone using FCP's file manager to remotely share files, anyone using FCP's file manager to remotely share files?

    Hi:
I am looking to build a solution for a prospective client.  I want to use FCP server's file manager to allow remote users to access and obtain content.  This arrangement is actually for healthcare solution. I know FCP is used to manage and transfer files, but I am not sure what controls, access, etc are available to make assurances these files are not manipulated.

I've been using FCP for a long time and I do not know of "file manager" tool. Are you looking for an evaluation of FCP Server? That's a different forum, not many users of that app here.

  • Should a graphic designer use Iphoto for file management ?

I am a designer who is overwhelmed by too many images from different sources (scan, online, art, photos) that need to be organized by themes (animals, flowers, calligraphy, projects, etc) so I tried transferring all my ps and tif and jpg files into iphoto (hoping to avoid using bridge, which I don't like).
I noticed after I drug some them into iphoto, I reopened them in PS (drug file to the PS software Logo in dock), all the layers were had been flattened and the file went from 600 dpi to 72! EEEEK!
I am a graphic designer and need large files with layers. Is iphoto a bad way to organize images? The orginal reason I like iphoto is because you can just drag out a file, and the original remains. In bridge, the original actually MOVES OUT.
(I posted this in the wrong forum before, so this is a repeat posting)

    kidquotes:
I would seriously look into a more robust DAM (digital asset management) application. The one that I use is Media Expression. It allows you to manage your folder system, move image files between folders from within the application, rename files, add metadata and write them to the files so they travel with them.
Go go The DAM Forum where professional photographers discuss the various DAM applications and their relative merits, etc. Expression Media was originally iView MediaPro and, at the time, was consdered one of the very best. EM was bought by Microsoft (ugh) but has evolved into am improved product but is more expensive.
As far as the dpi the resolution didn't change. iPhoto displays all at 72 dpi but if you were to look at the file in Photoshop it's print size would be nearly 9 times larger. It's all relative. SeeThe Myth of DPI.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Chromium "show in folder" - how to use a terminal file manager?

I am trying to get the Chromium download manager's "Show in folder" button to launch a terminal and run Ranger. I have created the file
    /usr/share/applications/ranger.desktop
    with the following contents:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Name=Ranger
    Exec="xterm -e /usr/bin/ranger %f"
    Terminal=true
    and done the association with
    xdg-mime default ranger.desktop inode/directory
This works, but only if I have launched Chromium from a terminal. If I launch it from dmenu, nothing happens when I click on "Show in folder".
Is there any way to get it to work?

Try removing the quotation marks in the desktop file.

  • Using OEM for file management

Is anyone using OEM to manage files on their clients?
We currently have a bunch of scripts that distribute certain files to certain systems based on system criteria, such as OS version, system "usage" (ie oracle DB, backup server) etc.
I was looking @ OEM Deployment Procedures as something that might help with this. I didn't see a premade "file distribution" procedure, though, so I would probably have to write my own somehow.
I'm also open to using Ops Center or some other plugin that might be more suited to this task.

I am going to assume that you are using EM 12c. Let me know if this is not true.
Deployment procedures (DP) is the ideal solution for this. There is no out of box DP for file transfer because it is extremely easy to create one. You have two options:
    1. transfer files from one server to another (using the file transfer step in DP)
    2. upload files to EM software library and then transfer them to different hosts (using the component and directive step in DP)

  • Using nautilus as a file manager in xfce

I decided to use nautilus as file manager in XFCE because I'm having some issues with thunar (slow mounting of removable drives etc.). I've assigned a keyboard shortcut to launch this command "nautilus --browser --no-desktop". The first time I run it everything works as intended, but when I press the keyboard shorcut second time 5 nautilus windows open and nautilus replaces thunar on the desktop (switches to the background used in gnome, raplaces the xfce right click menu with the gnome one, etc.). I am truly confused with this. Anyone has any idea what could be casing this behaviour?

  • What is the best way to use recovery files

I am working in FM 11 and have crashed FM a few times. What is the best way to use the recovery files and save them as the normal file? Then should I filter an explorer window for "recovery" so FM won't keep asking me if I want to use older recovery files? Thanks for your help.

    > What is the best way to use the recovery files ...
Use a .recover file to extract only the new/changed content that would otherwise be lost if you were instead to open the .auto (if any), or .backup files.
    > ... and save them as the normal file?
Don't. If the document crashed because of an internal data structure problem, the .recover file (although actually a MIF) is apt to contain that problem.
Before doing anything, preserve the debris. Copy the .backup and .auto files in particular, because as soon as you open the main .fm file, it's going to overwrite that .backup, and then the .auto at the next auto-save interval. You can dispose of any zero-length files or files with temporary names (which result from the crash itself crashing).
    I typically:
preserve a snapshot of the debris
open the original file, and if it won't, the .backup
open the .recover, .auto or .backup (whichever seems the most useful candidate as a sourcing file)
copy in the changes from the .recover, .auto or .backup to the working copy
save the working copy as the original.fm, close the sourcing file
do a MIF wash on the new original.fm
clean up the debris in preparation for the next crash

  • File Manager with tree view

I've been using Cinnamon with the Nemo file manager for a while now but I'm wanting to remove Cinnamon and have only Openbox and Awesome installed. The only thing that's stopping me now is I'm unsure of what to use for a file manager. The feature of Nemo that I really like is the ability to show folders in tree view in the main pane when in detailed list view. I know that most of them probably have the tree feature in a side pane but I want it in the main pane.
I'd like something with as few dependencies as possible since I'm wanting a more minimal approach to my system. Nemo requires Cinnamon, I'm guessing that Nautilus has the feature that I'm looking for as well but that requires Gnome.
Can anyone recommend another file manager with this feature? Or is there any way to install Nemo/Nautilus without their desktop dependencies?

drcouzelis wrote:It doesn't look like Nemo requires Cinnamon. What do you mean?
claire ~ % pacman -Qi nemo
    Name : nemo
    [snip]
Depends On : libexif gvfs dconf desktop-file-utils exempi python2
    cinnamon-desktop gnome-icon-theme libnotify libxml2
    cinnamon-translations
I think this is what is meant.

Not really, since those libraries are required to run the respective file manager.

  • Paste / Move issue in all Android file manager ports

So as everyone here knows a proper file manager is a must for every single OS and the PB doesn't pack one out of the box.
Air Browser seems to be the only free native one but it doesn't allow to browse outside "/accounts/1000/ shared" and the UI could be improved imho (not a fan of how the author split the different operations menu in 3 depending on it involving files, folders or cache... plus it lack multiple folder selection). So as a complement I use Ghost Commander which is available in App World.
Last week I tried to use Ghost commander as my sole file manager only to discover it can't copy / move files in "/accounts/1000/ shared". Then I tried most Android file managers available in App World only to find out they have the same issue!
    Here's what I mean:
1- Using any Android ported file manager copy/cut/paste a pdf, doc, xls... form/to a folder inside "/accounts/1000/ shared". Example
2- Aparently the file is moved to the desired folder. Example
    3- Now open it... Example
4- Regardless the file type (I tried a pdf here) the associated you will only get an error message stating the path isn't valid... Example
The time I tried this I was moving a folder with docs using Ghost Commander and afterwards it seemed as if I had lost my files (couldn't open them in the device and couldn't see them in my computer when I connected the PB)!
The only way I found I could recover them was:
1- Using any Android file manager copy the files to anywhere inside "/sdcard". Example
2- Using AIr Browser (didn't try any other native file manager since they are paid) go to /misc/android/folder_where_you_copied_the_files_to and copy them to any folder outside "misc". Example
Thanks for the scare RIM! Makes me wonder if any proper testing is done to the apps before these are acepted in BBAW.
Don't know if this is an issue caused by the emulator, the sandboxing process or if it's an issue in the way all the Android apps were coded... But it must be fixed.
As every single bug report I wrote here before I ask any informed user / mod /developer who reads this to send it to the right person and to inform me on how how I can do so correctly the next time.

  • AVCHD Viewer?  Is there a way to view "raw" AVCHD files?

I have Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder that records in AVCHD format. I import most of my AVCHD files into iMovie 08, but I also archive the "raw" AVCHD files (so that when I buy a Blu-Ray burner I can make high-def movies). My AVCHD files are stored as disk images that I usually label something like "5-28-08 Video.dmg" After a few years, when I go back to re-import the AVCHD file from the disk image, I'll probably forget what's on that specific image. Is there a viewer I can download to view the raw AVCHD files in the disk image? Part of the reason I import the AVCHD files into iMovie is for organization (I love the "events").
I store my stuff using this technique:

    Thanks,
    Otto

Yes, but your camcorder is dedicated to doing one thing and one thing only, like a calculator. It was specifically designed for this task... and to read just the AVCHD files it creates. I imagine it won't read any other cameras AVCHD files. Unlike a viewer which must work with a majority of files.
Consider this: Panasonic has a AVC Intra codec that is only available on cameras running over $50,000 because the hardware is so specific and difficult to cool. Sure, in a few years this will trickle down into sub $20,000 units (I hope!), but the point is there is a LOT of engineering of both the software and the hardware to make it happen.
Or to look at it another way, about 4-years and one computer ago, we had an associate taking RAW image files and using Adobe Bridge to view them. On the internal hard drive caching a folder of 1,000 RAW files would take over one-hour. Now simply moving them to an eternal drive took caching down to about 20-minutes... but now you want to do this with HIGHLY compressed video files in the newest of codecs... there is a LOT of math going on here.

  • Multiple use of properties file

Is there a way to use a properties file for multiple languages?
    ie.
en_EN points to the en_EN properties file
I want en_US to also point to that, is this possible? (it now points to default language if not present)
And anyone got a good tutorial / overview of the possibilities of properties file? have not been able to find a good example that shows all possibilities
    Thanks

Provide an en version which contains all the English stuff, then put all the en_US and en_EN variants into those files respectively.

  • File Manager problem

I am trying to assist my mate uploading documents onto his site. He has been set up with Dreamweaver and is more hopeless than I am. It is a case of the blind leading the blind.
I am able to upload and overwrite files using his legacy file manager but cannot do so using his file manager.
After opening file management I then open on web root and then hit go. I am then supposed to be able to click on the upload button in order to be able to browse in order to select the file I want. I am then supposed to be able to upload it. But nothing at all happens when I first hit upload in order for me to be able to browse.
As I have said, this does not happen with legacy file manager, where it allows me to hit upload files and then allows me to browse and then upload without delay.
I contacted the bloke who installed the system and he is unsure as to why it happens. He said it could be something to do with my browser popup settings, but they are okay. I would be very grateful for advice.

I'm not sure which one he's using. I'm at my own computer at the moment and my mate's not around. I'll find out asap. Sorry my question was confusing. I am very much a layman.

  • Is there any way to use video with the new Flash CC HTML5 Canvas?

I am a long time Flash user trying to determine if this new version of the program is something to add to the workflow again (after the last several years of not being able to use it) and the tutorials I have seen are not well written. Is there a way to use a video file within the animation, like with the AS2 and AS3 versions of Flash where I could insert a video clip into a symbol and animate the symbol while the video played.
What I need to know is what format of video file I should use and how to add it into the timeline since Flash does not seem to be allowing for any type of import for this.
    Any Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Brett

Ok, so there are limitations, are they written down somewhere? I have been looking for a list of do and do not functions and the ways to work around them. Are they in the documentation somewhere I haven't discovered?
Right now all I am looking to do is create Classic Tweens that animate movement and opacity so I can create a presentation with video that includes these elements. Is that level of functionality available in the HTML5 Canvas, or is that still on the drawing board?
Is there a specific name for what I am looking to do that would aid my search? HTML5 video is not enough since the answer has not been forthcoming in Google or on Adobe or Stack Overflow. I am starting to think that nobody has thought of this yet, or if they have they decided that it is not currently possible and skipped the part where the rest of us find out.
Any thoughts on making the connection to either doing this or finding out that it is just not possible yet would be very helpful.
