Way to view camera-specific metadata

Is there a way to view camera specific metadata? My camera has a variety of fields that include the mode the camera was using when the picture was taken. This is not part of the standard EXIF/IPTC I believe, so bridge doesn't display it. I know it's there because other programs such as OPANDA's IEXIF does display it.
Thanks!
Carlos

Curt and Jim,
Thanks for your responses.
I do get all the "standard" fields like exposure settings and focal length. And I know how to set the preferences to display or not display any of the standard fields
b that Adobe knows about.
However, there are other fields that my camera uses. For instance, my wife often takes pictures in Canon "vivid" mode. I have used the
i exiftool
utility, and I cantell that the metadata actually has an entry called "My Color Mode" that tells me the picture was taken with vivid or normal. Similarly another entry will tell me whether the picture was part of a panoramic (and even whether it was left to right or right to left) or the fact that drive mode was in "single shot"
In other words, Canon actually puts in there just about every setting the camera has. Not surprising, Adobe doesn't know about all of these settings, and one wouldn't expect it to, given the huge amount of cameras on the market.
The question was whether there is an extension or some other way to "train" Adobe products to recognize other data that may be in the file. Exiftool is great for checking one or two pictures, but its command line interface doesn't lend itself well to working with the actual picture at the same time.

  • Photoshop 10 Save As removes Camera Specific Metadata

I have Photoshop 10.0 (Windows XP) and use it to edit my photos from my new Nikon D300 camera. I create and maintain my images in JPG format as a preference and have no plans of saving in RAW. My D300 includes 40 to 50 camera info/metadata elements including the camera and lens settings at the time the photo is taken. When I do a simple "Save As" in Photoshop 10 to a new JPG file (whether image adjustments are done to the source image or not), the new JPG file is stripped of about half or more of the original camera-specific metadata elements. Is there a Photoshop setting or Nikon/Photoshop plug-in that will force the software to preserve/retain the original metadata? (The Capture NX2 solution is not an option as the one key feature I use is Auto Levels - The Auto Levels feature in Capture NX2 washes out my photos to an undesireable state). Therefore, I need to continue using Adobe for the benefit of their better Auto Levels feature and I also use their automation heavily as I process 100's of photos at a time. The only drawback of Adobe right now is they discard most of the camera specific shooting data at the time of save. RAW is not an option as the file sizes are too large for my storage, sharing and usage needs.

You may need to define custom XMP data fields for the extra data, which is done in the XMP control panel in Bridge. Photoshop should respect these fields and retain matching info by transfering it to XMP. Possibly someone has done this already and may provide a template somewhere for download. If that does not work, then I would guess waiting for CS4, due to be released officially on September 23, or using Lightroom 2 wil lbe your only option.

  • Is there a way to view image numbers in iPad photos, either of images taken with the iPad or of images copied into Photo (or camera roll) on the iPad?

Is there a way to view image numbers (metadata) on the iPad Photo app, distinguishing those taken with the internal camera from those downloaded from external camera or copied from an email?

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.
Thanks anyway. I was hoping someone out there would tell me they've experienced the same problems (non-functioning DELETE button, and persistent data in Photo Library), even if they haven't found a solution. Then I could assume it's a iOS 6 bug. All I can think of to do next is a full iPad restore.

  • Is there a way to export metadata specific metadata

Regardless of the metadata view I choose, Aperture exports only 21 columns of metadata, and not in the order that they appear in Ap. Actually it exports metadata that don't even appear in the view I'm using.
Is there a way export metadata specific metadata, so it can be used in Numbers, or Excel?

Do you have any suggestions for how to pass distribute .mov files with my contact info and description info?
    Just two ideas:
if you like commandline tools, you could try "exiftool" to write "Artist", "copyright", and "user comment" to your movies. Download from here: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/  The documentation says, that MOV files are supported; I did not try it with MOV, however.
Or use the "spotlight comment field (see above). But that would only be visible on a mac.
To write to the Spotlight Comment field open "Get Info" for the exported movie.
Can other programs like Bridge or lightroom read that metadata?
Sorry, I don't know since I do not work with those programs.

  • Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?

Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?  Is there some kind of window I can open where they will show up?  I am scrubbing a timeline and I would like to see all the cameras at once.

The multicam monitor only shows multiple clips at once when they are part of a mutlicam sequence. is there some reason you don't want to use them inside a multicam sequence for previewing?
Here is a possible workaround, if your workflow circumstances will permit it:
Apply a pip preset effect  to each clip in the timeline. Use UL, UR, LL, LR presets and up to four video tracks will display at once. If you need to see more than that, you'll need to tweak their position parameters by hand. When you're done previewing them all at once you just need to delete their effects from the Effects Controls panel.
I know it's not that neat or quick, but it will let you see everything at once in the program monitor.

  • Viewing Camera Metadata

I have a D200 and a SB800 flash unit. I am trying to view metedata in regards to the setting of the SB800 external fash unit. I notice that when I import pictures from my camera I can view the fash exposure compensation of the pop up flash. I would like to be able to know what compensation the external flash was set to.
It does not seem to matter how I use the falsh, either a TTL unit in the shoe of the camera or a remote using comander mode, the settings are not imported as metadata.
    Any Advise??
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Are you certain they're not in there? Be sure you're viewing the expanded metadata view -- there is lots more EXIF info in there but you have to get out of the basic template to see it.
I certainly know that I can get notice that the flash did fire... I don't know that I really have paid enough attention to know whether it was at say -1/2 stop exposure compensation.

  • Any way to view and delete photos from a camera or card without importing?

I received my iPad yesterday and I have a Camera Connection Kit. I'd like to be able to view photos from my cf card, connected via a card reader and the Connection Kit, without having to import them. I take hundreds of pics at sporting events and would like a quick way to view the files and determine which ones are "keepers," then delete the others from the card before importing to my Mac for editing and creating web galleries.
So far I cannot find an app that "sees" the card except the native Photo app, which only allows selection for import, not zooming or deleting.
    any tips?
    thanks
    steven

You can delete images from most (but not all) SD cards with the camera connection kit. But you have to import them to the iPad first. I don't know how long it takes to import hundreds of photos, so that may not be too quick. I doubt that Apple is going to open the kit up to developers because for whatever reason they want it restricted to photos only. So nothing else, short of a hack, is going to be able to read from or write to the CC kit's SD card.
There are other card reader/viewers available on the market and you could use one of those. Some are quite inexpensive. But I honestly don't know if the cheap ones have delete from the card capabilities. Anyway, a Google search of "card reader viewers" will get you the list.

  • Plug-in to Extract Camera RAW Metadata

    Hello,
I am new to Photoshop plug-in development and reading the Photoshop SDK helped a little, but not much.
Because Photoshop doesn't have the tools and also because there are no plugins available that are capable of extracting all or specific metadata from different RAW camera files that my company needs, I am left with the job of writing a plugin to specifically extract the necessary metadata from these RAW camera files.
I am looking through all the categories of different types of plugins(import, export, file format, filter, etc.) that I have to decide that fits the purpose that I am trying to accomplish. Being new at this, I am even stuck there.
So if anyone have some tips that can get me started and help me on my way during development, any help will greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    T. Tran

    I'm in the same boat.
I'm also trying to extract some metadata to incorporate into a web gallery template (specifically to show the original filename against the current filename for tracking, and archival cross-reference). Dealing with a large number of images (in the hundreds of thousands) any way to do this would relieve a lot of redundant data entry.

  • Best way to view a panorama

I was wondering what is the best way to view a panorama on the iPad?
The panoramas are NOT 360 degree. It is created by a digital camera, one of those which has this newer built-in sweep panorama mode, where you hold the camera and turn, and it snaps photos and stitches them together for you in the camer itself. And of course you can hold the camera in portrait or landscape mode and you will get a panorama with different dimensions this way.
So I import one of these panoramas into the default Photos app (after scaling it down in PS because obviously I don't need to see a 5000 something pixel wide pano on the iPad).
Anyhow. I think the iPad's Photos app displays panoramas in a rather stupid way. First, it just shrinks the pano so it fits the whole display. Then, if I double click it, it zooms into the panorama like 3 times or so, completely blowing up the pixels.
The only way I find is to zoom into the pano with two fingers, and then I can pan the photo left/right. I think this is rather lame way of doing it and was wondering if anyone has a better way to tackle this issue.
I am NOT interested in purchasing programs for the iPad that creates/stitches panoramas together for me. I want to create the panos with my digital camera, edit them and then import it to the iPad, which results just a simple photo, albeit much longer width then height. I'm just looking for a better way of looking at them on the iPad other then that mediocre default Photos app.
    Thanks!

Here's a free viewer that can be used for panos on ipads even though it's a product viewer ... you would need the beta one that actually works on ipads with zoom support http://www.webrotate360.com/360-product-viewer.html

Is there a way to view frequency levels in Hz on Adobe Audition 3.0 during voice recordings so I can ensure the recordings are hitting the specific frequency range I desire?

The frequency analyser pane can run in real time and show you this, but with a voice, there's no way you can alter the effective range anyway - it's almost entirely dependent on the voice you are recording, and they all fall pretty much into the same bands - depending on whether you're male or female.

Is there a way to view internet history on an ipad2 after it has been cleared from the safari page?

If you had backed up your iPad prior to deleting the Safari history, that history should be in the last backup.
This is what is contained in the iPad backups - copied from Apples support site.

    CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
    YouTube favorites.
    Wallpapers.
    Notes.
    Mail accounts.
    Autocorrect dictionaries.
    Camera Roll.
Home screen layout and web clips.
Network settings (saved Wi-Fi hotspots, VPN settings, network preferences).
Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same iPad that did the backup).
Keychain (This includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. The keychain can only be restored from backup to the same iPad. If you are restoring to a new device, you will need to fill in these passwords again.)
    Managed Configurations/Profiles.
MobileMe and Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
App Store Application data (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
Per-app preferences allowing use of location services.

  • Can't view Camera RAW files in Bridge or Photoshop CS4 after upgrading to Mac Mavericks X OS.

After upgrading my Mac operating system to Mavericks X I can no longer view Camera RAW images on either Bridge or Photoshop CS4!
I'd already fixed the issue of not even being able to launch Photoshop by installing Apple's Java applet, but this doesn't seem to have helped with the Camera RAW situation.
I've tried invoking "Update" in both Bridge and Photoshop, and both indicate there are no updates.
I even went to Adobe's Camera RAW area, and downloaded and installed the Camera RAW plugin specifically for my cameras (Canon 5D Mk ii) and Photoshop CS4, and that hasn't helped at all!
I feel that it's just another silly Java applet, but I haven't any idea how to proceed from here!
    HELP!
    Thank you,
    Bob

Did you download and install the camera raw 5.7 update?

Is there a way to view Flash videos on my iMac without downloading Adobe Flash Player? I'm concerned about performance and security with Adobe Flash Player.

If the video is only available in a format that requires Flash player : then no.
However, a great many can also be viewed in an HTML5 version, in which case http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/ or similar can be set up so that Flash never runs unless you specifically choose it to.

The digitization of data has introduced a complexity to our interactions with it that we continue to struggle with.  "Picture" and "Photo" now mean different things in different contexts.  In this case (and in general) defining our terms clearly is the first step towards understanding what we are trying to do.  Understanding is the path that allows us to do it.
All pedantic, but please stick with me here  .
You record a set of instantaneous data with a camera.
That data is processed by your camera and saved to a file.
The file format is usually either RAW or JPG.
You transfer those files to your computer, and you import them into the program Aperture (often in one operation).
From each camera-file imported, Aperture creates a record in its database (called, imho unhelpfully, a Library) and an Image that you see in the Aperture Browser and Viewer.
Aperture links the Image and the imported file.
The imported file is called, within Aperture, an Original.
    Every Image has an Original.
The Image is not the Original.  The Image is what you see in Aperture.
The Original is a file that is stored on your computer.
You can make changes to an Image.
    Aperture calls these changes Adjustments.
Adjustments are saved to another file attached to the record in the database.  Let's call this file the Changes File.
Aperture uses these two files attached to the record in the database to create the Image.
Image = Original + Changes File.
The Image is not a file.
Because the Image is not a file, it cannot be shared with other programs.  It exists only inside of Aperture.
In order to share an Image with another program, you must first create a file of the Image.
You do this by exporting Images ("File ▹ Export ▹ Version" is the command in Aperture; should be, imho, "File ▹ Export ▹ Image").
You may ask, "Why all the complexity?  Why doesn't Aperture save Images as files?"  The answer is simple:  Images can require less — and in many cases very very much less — storage space than files of Images.  Rather than save a full-size file for every Image, Aperture saves only instructions on how to make that full-size file.  The gain in storage efficiency is huge.  The trade-off is that although your Images are always available to be made into share-able files, you must create those files when needed (which you do by exporting selected Images).
Here is your question reworded with more precise terms:
    SamanthaR22 might have written:
How do I access Images in my Aperture Library in the Finder?  I would like I be able to select files in the Finder when I am making photo books online without having to create them by exporting Images from Aperture into a new Finder folder. Is there any way to view and download my Images directly from the Finder?
No, there is not.  Images exist only in Aperture, and are not accessible for use in other programs.  You must create, for each Image in your Aperture Library, a new file outside of your Aperture Library in order to use it with another program.
Aperture does allow you to create and save within your Library share-able files of your Images.  These files are called Previews.  You specify the file parameters in Aperture Preferences on the Previews tab.  These files are available to other programs via the OS X Media Browser.  These files are what you get when you drag selected Images out of the Aperture program and drop them on another program or on your desktop (which is part of the Finder).
    HTH.
