Ways to keep correct dates when transferring between libraries?

Any tips on how to export between libraries and keep the correct dates with your photos?
I am currently using iPhoto 9. I recently tried to transfer photos from an older library (2002) to a new library.
With past versions of iPhoto, I would burn the "old" - i.e. 2002, library to a DVD, open the "new" library, mount the "old" library DVD and drag the photos from the DVD within iPhoto to copy them into the new library. In the past, when I have used this method, the "dates" that accompanied the photos would be preserved (exporting and importing, however, would cause this data to be lost).
Something is definitely wrong, as my dates on the imported photos range from the year 2000 (before I even owned a digital camera) to 2008 (possibly when I upgraded the 2002 library to iPhoto 8). The mounted library from the disk shows the correct dates, however. The dates only go "bad" on importing them to the new library.
Does anyone have a work-around for this problem? Thank you in advance!

Try using iPhoto Library Manager to move files/albums/events - including metadata - between Libraries.

  • How to use "Days to keep historical data" & "Maximum time between logs(hh:mm:ss)

    Iam using LabVIEW DSC. Values are being logged continously into citadel.
    Is it possible to retain data of just one month and delete the earlier data as fresh data is being logged into citadel?
    Is it possible to achieve this feature with "Days to keep historical data" & "Maximum time between logs(hh:mm:ss)" options in the history menu of Tag configuration editor ?

    Yes, Days to keep historical data does what you are looking for. After the specified number of days, the old data gets overwritten with new data. So, you always have only the specified number of days' of data in Citadel.
    Note: You may sometimes see that old data doesn't get overwritten till after a day or so of your setting (depending on how much data is being logged). This is because Citadel logs in "pages" and waits till the current page it's logging to is full before it starts overwriting the old ones.
    You do not have to use the 'Max time between logs' option for this. This option forces Citadel to log data every so-many hh:mm:ss regardless of whether or not the data has changed. Note that this is NOT a way to "log data on
    demand". Because, this periodic logging of data would change for a particular tag when its data changes. So, even with this setting all data may not get logged at one shot. Anyways, as I said, you do not have to use this setting for what you're trying to do.

  • Discoverer Viewer not showing correct data when scheduled

    Hi All,
    I have a bit of an ongoing issue and cannot find an answer through Oracle.
    We have an issue that when a cross-tab workbook is run manually in Desktop this returns correct data, when scheduled in desktop it returns correct data in desktop, but when opening the scheduled workbook in viewer, incorrect and irrelevant data is returned
    Here is a little information on the field that is not returning correct data;
    The field is based on a calculation, the calculation (lets call BOB) contains PL/SQL function concatenated with an NVL calculation, this other calculation is a DECODE. I have been playing with changing the content of the BOB calculation, by removing the PL/SQL function and the DECODE calc from BOB and scheduling the report, the data is returned in viewer, in fact i've attempted one without the other and this still does not return the correct data.
    This version of discoverer that is not returning data is V 10.1.2.50.05. I've tested this on a later environment with Discoverer V 10.1.55.26 and the data is returning correctly through the sceduled report in viewer.
    My questions;
    1. Has anyone ever come across something similar to this in version 10.1.2.50.05
    2. Is there any detail available regarding what upgrading to 10.1.55.26 offers?
    3. Know any workaround for using PL/SQL calculations in a scheduled workbook? I am aware that not aggregable items will not be returned in v11 when scheduling workbooks.
    Many thanks in advance for any help.

    You do realise that wiping the disk means that everything on the disk is erased. Everything. Photos, music, emails, ...
    So the first piece of advice is to make sure you have a back up of everything.
    You need the OS disk to reintsall the operating system. You will use that disk first to erase the drive, then to reinstall the OS.
    Here's the link for the US.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    As for MS Office, you will need the original disk that it came on to reinstall it.

  • How Can I Keep Photo Data When Adding Photo To New Book?

    All of my photos in IPhoto have dates and descriptions as part of the file names. When I transfer then to make a book, all of this data goes away. Is there any way I can keep this data as a description of the photo.

    Where are you transferring the file to and how? As long as you use iPhoto the title and description remain associated with the photos. Are you referring to the title and having the title show on the book's page along with the photo? There is just one theme that displays the title: Folio
    The only way to get the description to display is to change the title to what you put in the Information/Description field. That can be done automatically with the Applescript described in my post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5400478&#5400478

    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Inform users on unsaved data when switching between/starting new TaskFlows?

    Hi
    In our case, we are using the multiTaskFlow concept to dynamically start new TaskFlows in Tabs. The simple requirement is to have a generic way to inform users on modified unsaved data when switching or starting new TaskFlow
    I did research in google for answers, but did not found anything working.
    For example, I added following checks (df=dirtyFlag) just before switching between Tabs and Menu-items:
    boolean df1 = am.getApplicationModuleDef().isDirty();
    boolean df2 = ControllerContext.getInstance().getCurrentRootViewPort().isDataDirty();
    boolean df3 = ControllerContext.getInstance().getCurrentViewPort().isDataDirty();
    boolean df4 = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getDirtyPageHandler().isDataDirty();
    boolean df5 = am.getTransaction().isDirty();
    boolean df6 = am.getDBTransaction().isDirty();
    boolean df7 = bindingContext.getDefaultDataControl().isTransactionDirty();
    boolean df8 = dcBindingContainer.getDataControl().isTransactionModified();
    boolean df9 = dcBindingContainer.getDataControl().isTransactionDirty();
    Start Application and perform a TAB switch without searching or changing anything
    df1 true
    df2 false
    df3 false
    df4 false
    df5 false
    df6 false
    df7 false
    df8 false
    df9 false
    Within a TaskFlow I perform a SEARCH and perform a TAB switch, flags change to following:
    df1 true
    df2 true
    df3 true
    df4 true
    df5 true
    df6 true
    df7 false
    df8 false
    df9 false
    I MODIFY values within TF and perform a TAB switch, flags remain same and regardless what I do, they remain so:
    df1 true
    df2 true
    df3 true
    df4 true
    df5 true
    df6 true
    df7 false
    df8 false
    df9 false
    Do you know a working approach?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    its for when you leave a view, not when you switch task flows in a page. To get back to your question, one thing you forgot to mention is what data control state is it that the task flows have: shared or isolated? If they have a shared state then only a single transaction is on and you should be able to tell the dirty state by calling
    boolean df2 = ControllerContext.getInstance().getCurrentRootViewPort().isDataDirty();
    However, if the task flow is in isolated mode then you will need to get a handle to the data control frame used by that task flow.
    BindingContext ctx = oracle.adf.controller.binding.BindingUtils.getBindingContext();
    String frameName = ctx.getCurrentDataControlFrame();
    DataControlFrame frame = ctx.findDataControlFrame(frameName);
    boolean isDirty = frame.isTransactionDirty();
    //see: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15051_01/apirefs.1111/e10653/oracle/adf/model/DataControlFrame.htmlHowever, this information is only available from within the task flow, which means to check this from the outside you need to provide a mechanism to get to this information (contextual events would be an option. You define a contextual event receiver on the task flows that when called checks the current transaction state and then "fires" the answer back to the caller, which then obtains a map of task flow transaction states to check before navigating away or switching task flows.

  • Incorrect dates when sharing between iMac & MBP

    When I try to import a shared album from my iMac to my MBP using iPhoto sharing in preferences, some of the photos' dates are incorrect.  They are correct on the iMac, but incorrect when imported onto the MBP.
    This only seems to occur with iPhone photos.  Photos taken with either of my Canon cameras transfer with the correct date, but iPhone photos all have a date of 1 Jan 2001 00:00:00.  (I've just noticed that the GPS data (and I think keywords) are lost too.)
    There don't seem to be many options in the sharing menu (under preferences) - it's basically either on or off with a choice of all photos or selected albums.
    I've had a quick Google and can't immediately see this described elsewhere.  I'd be grateful if anyone can suggest what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks
    prx

    Thanks for the super quick response!
    I dragged the photos to make sure they moved (or were copied) to the MBP from the iMac.  (When I first tried it the photos clearly didn't move as they were not viewable full size on the MBP when iPhoto was closed on the iMac, yet thumbnails/previews were still visible.)
    Having moved the photos, I thought the date was in the exif data within the photo jpg file, so am surprised that it got changed.  What I'm finding most odd is that only iPhone photos are affected.  I'd have thought that those would have been the ones that transferred perfectly!
    Would it be better to export and re-import (although I will investigate iLM - I've seen it mentioned before.

  • Sync with a new computer - any way to keep app data?

    I recently purchased a new computer and imported my itunes library from the old one, but when I attach the iphone (3GS), it doesn't recognise it as the same library and appears to be warning me that all the data in my apps will be deleted. While quite of few of the data ones have backup options, I don't particularly want to lose the data from games where I have unlocked levels... Is there any way to sync the iphone to the "new" library and keep the data within the apps?

    By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you replaced your computer, your phone will be wiped of itunes content, but since you restored your library to your new computer, this will not be a problem. App data is stored in two places, on your phone & in your phone's backup. If you restore your phone from backup on your new computer, you will preserve your app data. Follow these instructions in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences, in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever programs you use for that purpose on your computer(address Book & ical). The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
    You should be good to go with all of your app data restored to your phone & you're now syncing to your new computer.

  • Is it possible to preserve creation/mod dates when transfering Mac-PC-Mac?

    Hi there
    I tried researching the following problem on-line but couldn't find anything helpful so was hoping someone else might know something helpful.
    Historically I have always used PCs so until last year I didn't own a Mac, although I use them at work. This means I have a huge amount of files and data stored on external hard drives. I now run Snow Leopard but also run Windows 7 in inside VirtualBox because not all software I own is available for the Mac.
    The problem I have is that Snow Leopard and Windows handle file creation and modification dates differently. So if I save a file on my Mac HFS+ disk in Snow Lepoard, Windows cannot read the dates correctly.
    I have MacFuse running in Snow Lepoard in order to access my NTFS+ disks but saving files on there still doesn't resolve the issue. Recently I created network drive shares to my NTFS disks in Windows 7 so I could access them. However when I copy files from my Digital Camera on to them, it changes the creation date whilst keeping the modification date unchanged. I use the creation dates to title my MPEG4 AVI videos so I cannot afford the dates to change. If those contained metadata, similar to EXIF data, it wouldn't be such a problem but they don't.
    Does anyone know a way of safely transferring files or a program which converts files between Mac and PC. I know of MacDisk but would allow resolve the date issue or simply place files on a HFS+ disk with the windows creation date format. Thus rendering the dates wrong when used in the Mac. I just need a conversion tool between the two. I can't use FAT32 because I also work with digital video from time to time.
    Kind regards
    Infobleep

    So to understand your issue.
    You have lots of old drives running with the NTFS file system.
    Now that you have a MAC you want to keep using these drives in the same way.
    The issue is that the MAC is writing the day you copied the content onto the hard drive in NTFS external drives as the creation date?
    Is this correct?
    If so, I believe that you are trying to do a Windows thing in a MAC world....
    I am using Parallels and VM ware. I cannot see any problem with VMware and the file creation dates in either MAC or XP. I have created new files in each, crossed over to the other operating system and modified the files. Both files are correctly displaying the content the way they need to be with the correct modified and created dates. The VMware and MAC OS use the mac file system as a base.
    I would try to save the digital photos to the external drives while in windows. If you need to use the MAC when doing this I personally would copy off all the old PC files onto my mac and then reformat the external drive as a MAC file system drive. Then copy the files back to the external drive from the MAC. If you are using VMware this drive can be useable by windows as a "shared folder".
    If you acknowledge the external USB drive as a USB device in WMware it will of course be in MAC file system format so the new formatted drive will only be viewable in the Computer Management application (WinXP ) And it will not show up as a drive.
    To get around this I created a new shared folder in the VMware (Settings -> System Settings -> Sharing) and just simply chose the entire portable drive as a shared folder. Works like a charm. Now WinXP can use the VMware Tools app and properly translate the file content over the the MAC drive. I just created a few files and don't see any issue with the file creation dates.
    MAC doesn't use NTFS for its file system and since NTFS is a windows technology, probably cannot? If anything the software that is allowing you to write to the NTFS drive is probably emulating something and that piece of software is at fault. I have an old NTFS drive and don't remember being able to write to it natively from the MAC OS.... In fact my new 1TB drive was purchased to allow me to transfer all my old data off the legacy drive so that I can update it to the new MAC world
    Though even more then this... I personally never rely on something so fallible as a computer maintained "created on" or "modified on" concept as these are subjective. As of the new millennium file names have been basically unbound. I would instead append the date and time to my file name as follows.
    201007310300 Some Name of a File.jpg
    this way no matter what is done with the file you still have the all important creation date.
    An apple script should be able to be created to look at the creation dates on the files as they are stored on the mac and append the date to the file name. (basic shell scripting)
    And if this doesn't work for you, perhaps the Linux file system is a better option? I believe that MAC will play nicer with Linux. And I know that there are software drivers to read a linux drive on a PC. Again, though, creation dates can easily change and are no guarantee as to when a file was really created.
    So to conclude. All of my external drives are in MAC FS. If I need to copy files to a PC I can use my new 64GB flash drive. (I mean that is a HDD all in to itself!) If you are stuck in NTFS land, save the files via your Windows emulation.

  • How to convert data when transferring from one table to another

    I have two tables and these are the structure of the tables
    create table E1(
    ID NUMBER
    ,NAME VARCHAR2(30)
    , DESIGNATION VARCHAR2(30)
    ,GENDER VARCHAR2(10));
    create table E2(
    ID NUMBER
    ,NAME VARCHAR2(30)
    , DESIGNATION VARCHAR2(3)
    ,GENDER NUMBER); Now I want to transfer records from one table to another using a master tables where data are compared because the datatypes in tables are different
    The first one is a gender table to match the gender and convert
    create table Gender(
    E1 varchar2(10),
    E2 number);The second is for the designation
    create table Designation(
    E1 varchar2(30),
    E2 varchar2(3);How to match and convert the data so that it can be transfered.

    Peeyush wrote:
    Can we do it with the help of a cursor.
    All SQL executed by the database are parsed as cursors and executed as cursors.
    I mean I have to insert data in bulk and I want to use cursor for it.The read and write (select and insert) are done by the SQL engine. The read part reads data and passes it to the write part that inserts the data.
    Now why would using PL/SQL and bulk processing make this faster? It will reside in-between the read part and the write part being done by the SQL engine.
    So the SQL engine reads the data. This then travels all the way to the PL/SQL engine as a bulk collect. PL./SQL then issues an insert (the write part to be done by the SQL engine). And now this very same data travels all the way from the PL/SQL engine to the SQL engine for insertion.
    So just how is this approach, where you add extra travel time to data, faster?
    and i want to commit the transaction after every 50 recordsWhy? What makes you think this is better? What makes you think you have a problem with not committing every 50 rows?

  • Maintaining EXIF data when transferring pictures from XP to iPhoto?

    Good afternoon everyone! Hope I can get some help here...
    is there any way to maintain the EXIF data added from a computer using Windows XP. This is when you right click on a photo and go to properties->summary tab (i.e. keywords and comments) while importing into iPhoto? A client of mine spent hours upon hours adding comments like location, description, etc. to each photo and it would essentially be a nightmare re-doing all of that.
    Even an add-on or separate program would be fine. In the event that iPhoto does not work nicely with this, any recommendations for future use on the Apple platform would be appreciated. Thanks fellas!

    You are confusing EXIF - the data about the photo from your camera - with ITPC data - iPhoto pays attention to both IF they are present in the proper fields - the key to transferring EXIF and ITPC data from one computer to a Mac using iPhoto is to have the data properly embedded in the photo of the source computer - if it is then iPhoto will use it on import
    see http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/glossary/f/metadata.htm for more information on EXIF, TITPD and XMP
    Also download EXIF viewer for the Mac - http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/index.html - to view the EXIF data before iPhoto gets it

  • What is the best way to keep high res when saving "for web"

    the files i'm saving for web so i can get them in jpg (or gif) format are coming out very pixelated.  this is when i print the image.
    what is the best way to save for web an image and keep the resolution good.
    using for a business card template.  avery template will let me attach images i want to the project.  to do this..  i "get file from computer" and it drops the image in but real small... then you are supposed to enlarge it onto your work however you want.  well when i enlarge this image file, it gets pixelated badly.  i'm thinking it's the way i'm saving it.  i do not adjust anything when i save.  maybe i should.  this is where i need guidance.
    this is what avery template notes about the images i am allowed to use - When uploading the image, the maximum size allowed is 4 MB.  You can only upload JPG and PNG images either as RGB or CMYK.  so when you recommend things, can you please keep this in mind
    thank you for oyur time.

    Aida,
    When you save with the default template using save for web it is generally a very low settings.
    While in the save window you can define the pixel size of the image you want with quality as well as resolution too.
    Refer to tv.adobe.com video save for web or Adobe help file for detailed instructions.

  • Is there a way to keep 3G data always on?

    Well I am trying to keep alive my 3G data but it keeps changing to GPRS all the time. Is there a solution?

    I have 2 out of 5 3G signal but my phone prefers 2G signal with 3/5 signal. I wanted to change that but I think there is no way to do that.

  • Option to keep app data when removing an app from iPhone

    I'm sure this has been asked for before, but are there any plans to add this feature?
    It would be nice to be able to remove an app (after all I only have 16gb of space and can't keep adding new apps) and have iTunes keep a back up of it's data so it's restored when you re-add the app.
    The iPhone is overtaking devices like the PSP and DS in game sales, so it's clear that a lot of people use the iPhone for gaming. With other portable games consoles, you can choose what games you want to take with you when you're out and about without fear of losing saved games if you decide to leave one at home. It would be a great feature if you could add and remove games at will just as simply as adding or removing playlists. After all, you can remove a playlist from your device to make room, but can always re-add it later.
    As I said before, I'm sure lots of people want this feature, but all I want to know is if it is in the works or not.
    Thanks for reading.

    I agree it would be a very nice feature; the iPhone's syncing and data backup capabilities are very limited compared to devices that have preceded it like Palms and even the HP handhelds of 15 years ago. However, you won't get an answer here because this is a user forum and Apple does not respond to posts.
    The good news is that the API allows app developers to save data and transfer it to your computer either by over the Internet, by wire or WiFi, and some app developers have incorporated backup features into their apps. The bad news is that the process is manual, for each app, and that the process is not the same across apps.
