Ways to output 5.1 audio to an OPPO 105 from the Mac

I'm downloading high resolution music which is sometimes in a 5.1 surround format.  Once the music is downloaded to the Mac (mid 2011) I want to send it to my OPPO blu ray machine because it has excellent DACs.  The OPPO essentially takes the digital output of the computer and translates it for the rest of the analog music chain.  The least amount of processing of the signals is preferable so I'm looking at options for how to get the digital audio files from the Mac to the OPPO.  Thanks.

So far what have you tested for 5. output?
From what I tried to check, this two Knowledge Base articles relates closely to what you are encountering.

Pardon me if it doesn't work, because I don't have a Platinium dri've myself so I'm not sure of the software settings and stuff. But here goes.
If you said you are able to hear sound from your Home Theatre System, that I suppose the settings to output through Optical Output is successful. You should then turn OFF AC3/DTS Decode, if I'm not mistaken, you should enable AC3/DTS passthrough option instead, so the signal will be decoded with your HTS.
Also, speaker tests won't work from Creative's mixer settings as PCM signals will only output stereo.
Alright, I've tried to help. To summarise
. Set to Optical Output
2. Set to AC3/DTS Passthrough
I hope it works.

  • Will FCP X and QT will output audio thru any sound card that the Mac recognizes?

    I watch FCP X video on my Mac Pro video monitor.
    I want to output the audio thru a sound card to my audio monitor controller. My new digital audio monitor controller connects USB to the Mac, and USB is not an output option with FCP X. So, I need another audio path.
    I have previously used a Pro Tools HD Native card for sending FCP X audio out, and this works fine.
    I assume that any other sound card that works in the Mac (i.e., compatible and selectible in Mac Pro Sound Preferences) would work with FCP X, but I am just checking to be sure this is right before I buy something.
    I am aware of potential sync issues, so I would use only a low latency sound card. The Pro Tools card, for instance, had very low latency and worked fine.

    OK, forget it.
    I can just use the Mac Pro optical digital out.  Doh.
    Some days the brain just won't lock into gear.

  • I have no audio from the mac mini to the hdtv via hdmi cable.

    This started immediately after the latest "apple software update"  I updated it automatically on 6/24/2011.  I have an elgato eye tv connected to the mac mini that provides BOTH audio and video through the HDMI to the HDTV.  The elgato eye tv works fine.  I get both audio and video.
    However, I only get picture and NO sound from the mac mini to the HDTV via the HDMI output.  No streaming audio either - only picture. Ive tried pandora, netflix, hulu, etc.  I even put in a DVD into the mac mini and again I receive a picture through THE HDMI but no audio.
    I've shutdown and rebooted.  I've disconnected power and reconnected power.  I've gone into the system preferences, audo, and highlight the SONY HDTV as the output.  But still nothing.  I do notice when I toggle between the "internal speakers' and the HDMI option, the audio arrow on the lower right is bright blue during the internal speakers option but is grey when the HDMI option is connected.
    I called apple care.  Since I'm 98 days past my 90 days of coverage there is no help via human being.  They offered me to set an appointment at the local apple store but they suggested I bring down my 60 inch HDTV with me to the store to be sure it is not a "Sony" issue.  I hope someone can help me resolve this without having to put this mac mini on craigslist and taking a $ hit.
    This was not an issue yesterday.  It became an issue after the latest and greatest "update" to prepare our machines for the lovely lion.
    Thanks.

    I have the same issue.  I also have the 2010 mac mine and use hdmi for audio to my receiver.  I get audio from eye tv with no problems, but it seems to lock the path so that only it can use that path for audio.  If I restart the computer and do not start eye tv everything else works with hdmi audio.  I have tried using the system settings and changing the source there but it doesnt seem to matter.

    after attaching the headset to the audio jack, i get sound from the laptop speaker

    This worked for me as well. Great find! I have gigabyte ep45-ud3r motherboard and I was getting all sound through external speakers except itunes was playing the sound out of the digital output instead of the speakers. I could see this when I went to control panel > hardware & sound > manage audio devices. I did the repair as described above and now I have sound in iTunes.

    AFAIK, there's no app that'll clone the Mac and PC volumes so you can restore them. System Image Utility.app or Deploy Studio for Mac and Ghost for PC are needed. See these for starters:

  • Can I record audio on an iPad direct from a mac via line out

    I use the noteability app alot, recording audio at a live lecture works great.  However, due to a bug you can not add an audio file directly into your notes (at the moment), you must record them.
    I have a bunch of podcasts that I would like to add to my notes.  I know I could play them from my mac and record audio through the ipads mic but what I hoped  to do was connect a male to male cable between the line out of my mac into my ipad, playing the audio without interferance.  This didn't work
    Does anyone know if there is a similar way to do this or something I could have done wrong.
    Thanks

    yeah - you can do it, but you need an adapter.  The earphone jack on a pad is a special jack with stereo headphone uot put and a seperate mic in channel.  The adapters i have seen are usually built to accomodate a standard 1/4 in - into the pad, like the one in the attached link.  In theory, you could use the lineout on the mac, to a 1/4 in male - then into this adapter to get it back into the pad.   Somebody probably makes the cable you need with the 1/4 shift, but I couldn't find one.
    Options - in you notes, insted of copying the file, put a link to the podcast

    By the way the program does not terminate immediately after starting it. According to your advice I tried removing running it inside in a thread and making it sleep at several points appropriate. No luck.
    I wonder why packets are not sending even the program is running until the end of the line with no exception.
    Have you tried to capture RTP packet traffic with Wireshark or similar kind of network analyzing software with this kind of program?
    I am doubt whether my program is actually transmitting packets but unable to capture those due to the error with transmitter.
    Even with the Wireshark It does not capture outgoing packets.
    And another thing I noticed with netstat is it shows two pots get opened when running the application but those ports are not the one I note in the program.
    For example I run the program with port number as 10000 (sink: setOutputLocator rtp://192.168.2.104:10000/audio). But when I check it with netstat some other ports are open.
    i.e
    nuwan@nuwan-laptop:~/eclipse$ netstat -anup
    (Not all processes could be identified, non-owned process info
    will not be shown, you would have to be root to see it all.)
    Active Internet connections (servers and established)

    udp6       0      0 127.0.1.1:28865         ::: 10772/java*
    nuwan@nuwan-laptop:~/eclipse$
    And each time when I start the program these two ports are changed also.
    And foreign address is not shown ? Any comment for that??
    Is there anything that can be drawn from above information which caused for not working my program.
    This is killing me. And also making me sharper. And I cant leave this behind also. So highly appreciate you time and help.
    Thanks.

  • I can't access my university VPN with my iPad or iPhone but I can access it with my Mac. I was wondering if there is a simple way so that I can remotely access my home computer from the iPad, turn on the Mac VPN and then access the school network?

    The iosx and open VPN app on the iPad/phone aren't compatible w my school's VPN, but my Mac is via tunnelblick. I would really like to have VPN access from my tablet so I can access journals without undergoing a tedious process.
    Has anyone encountered this and found a remedy? I'm imagining an app from the tablet that can access the Mac at home to turn on the VPN to the school and then have access.. But then I'm thinking id be reading through 2 screens then formatting/resolution could be a problem.
    Another thought was setting up a VPN at home so that my iPad can connect to my computer at home via VPN which would then allow me easy access to journals. But I'm lacking experience in this, especially a security issue as I'm going from point A to point C to get back to point B.
    I'm open to any suggestions.
    Thanks

    You should be able to use the OpenVPN Connect app running on your iPad to connect your iPad to the VPN directly. It is an official OpenVPN client for iOS devices.
    In what way is it "not compatible"? Have you tried it? Tunnelblick is an OpenVPN client, so your school's VPN is using the OpenVPN protocol. That means any OpenVPN client should be able to access it. (It is possible, but unlikely, that your school uses encryption that is not available on the iPad, but that would be very unusual.)
    Otherwise, a remote control app on your iPad would let you control your Mac at home. "Back to My Mac", for example, would allow you to control your Mac remotely. The tricky part of this is that usually a VPN is set up to send all Internet traffic via the VPN server, and I'm not sure how that would work with "Back to My Mac".

  • If I use an SD card for both Windows 7 and Mac, is there any way to see the documents from the Mac sight while on the windows side?

    If I use an SD Card on both the windows 7 and Mac OS (using bootcamp), is there any way to see the data seen on the Mac OS side while using the Windows OS?

    Windows Aero style uses a different background image than Mac:
    Windows Aero:
    #nav-bar {
    background-image: linear-gradient(rgba(253,253,253,0.45), rgba(255,255,255,0));
    Mac:
    #nav-bar {
    background: url(chrome://browser/skin/Toolbar-background-noise.png),
    linear-gradient(hsl(0,0%,93%), hsl(0,0%,83%));
    I can't test hands on, but you might be able to clear that OSX "fog" using a rule such as:
    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
    #nav-bar, #PersonalToolbar {
    background-image: none !important;
    background-color: transparent !important;
    This could be applied using the Stylish extension or by creating/editing a userChrome.css file.

  • The ability to output halftones (separations) and set screen angles, etc., from the CS5 print dialog

    I output films from photoshop that are used to expose silkscreens.  often, i output halftones and up until CS5 i've done this from the print dialog where i can also set my screen angles and dot shapes, press print and off it goes to my printer.  It has been suggested to me in the photoshop macintosh forum that i might simply build a script to convert the individual channels to bitmaps at the printer resolution, angle, shape and then print that.  unfortunately, this method results in less accurate screens and fails to take advantage of what my postscript printer can do.  this is the only reason i have a postscript capable printer.  i used this workaround method before i bought the postcript printer and the results just weren't very good.
    my workaround is to keep CS3 installed and print from that.  this is a hassle and less than optimal.  i was quite surprised to find that this "feature" which has been available in photoshop for many years suddently disappeared.  please give some thought to bringing it back.  i expect that i'm not the only shop that's going to miss it.
    you can see some commentary on this in the ps mac forum.  look for "setting line screen in CS5."
    kenb

    Hey Ken, I personally haven't used that feature in years but it was
    very useful when printing separations for t-shirts so I feel for ya. I
    noticed it's still in CS4 if that helps. Also, you may try
    experimenting with the following filters:
    RGB FILES:
    Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern
    RGB or CMYK FILES:
    Filter > Pixelate > Color Halftone
    GRAYSCALE FILES:
    Image > Mode > Bitmap > Method > Halftone Screen
    Also, InDesign allows you to print custom screen angles and line
    rulings but not dot shape.
    Good luck!

  • The audio does not play back from the speakers of my laptop, it plays only through headphones ?

    Hi, I am not able to hear playback of audio from the speakers on my laptop. Only if I connect a headphone I am able to hear. Kindly help resolve.

    Hi
    1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
    Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
    2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
    3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
    4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
    5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
    Let us know how it goes!

    yes, you sure can.usb wifi adapters are availabe for your Mac Pro. try afterthemac.com. I don't work for them, just the first page that popped up. Dlink

  • Audio works for everything apart from the itunes festival app

    Audio works fine in menus, music and video. But when trying to watch concerts on the itunes festival app there is no audio, only video. Have tried changing settings and restarting apple tv but has made no difference. Seems very strange.

    I called Apple and got this fixed. It was a simple "Restore" from the settings menu. Not the restart but restore the Apple TV back to factory settings, I went straight onto the featival channel and it worked (and has continued to work) perfectly.
    Hope this helps everyone else!
