Ways to stream audio from programs other than iTunes?

Ok, the only way I have heard of doing this is with Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil program, which costs $25. Is there any other way to work around this for free? I think it's not worth me going out and buying a $100 product and then having to pay $25 for a feature that should be integrated. Anyways, ideas? Thanks for your time.

Sorry but Airfoil is the way to do it.

  • Does anyone know a way to stream audio from Snow Leopard to a PPC running Panther?

I have recently aquired a iMac PPC, I've freshly installed Panther on it and it runs a treat. I was wondering however if there is a way to stream audio from my main Desktop, a 2007 iMac running Snow Leopard. iTunes library share isn't a solution either as I use Spotify a my main source of music and unfortunetly it is no longer supported for PPC's.
    Thanks, Tim

Unfortunately I could get neither of these to work, probably because of my own ineptitude.
I couldn't get VLC to output from Spotify, this could be my own fault.
I also couldn't make Airplay play with OS X 10.3.9.
I did however find a messy workaround.
I am currently using Airfoil on my main Desktop to output Spotify and then am receiving it on Airfoil Speaker on my iPhone, which is in turn connected to my 10.3.9 iMacs audio input via a 3.5mm Jack.
You need to download an app called LineIn for 10.3 (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/legacy/) to play the sound from the input from the built in speakers.
To be fair it's not that messy it just requires you to have a device that can have Airfoil Speakers installed on it and have a 3.5mm Jack.

  • Is there a way to access 11i from outside other than Self service?

Is there a way to access 11i from outside other than Self service?
I could connect any application from inside the firewall (basically router) and can not access screens from outside. Eventhough port forwarding 80 allows us upto initial screen, it does not go further.
    Any workaround/suggestions
    Jiltin

    Hi Jiltin,
If you can migrate your forms server into Forms Listener Servlet. This will allow you to use forms outside firewall provided atleast one port(assuming yours 80) is open.
Ref to the M.Link Note 201340.1 for how to setup forms listener servlet.

  • My iTunes account is no longer showing my playlists or any of the music I have added from sources other than iTunes.

I discovered that iTunes is no longer showing any of my playlists or music I have added from sources other than iTunes.  My iPod, which is a 4th Gen Classic, seems fine and has all of my playlists and music.  My question is how do I upload my iPod to iTunes so that I don't lose anything?  I have read a lot of posts about people having similar problems and most of them suggest restoring from an old saved file.  I have two problems with this approach 1) I do not have a current back-up and 2) it does not seem to work for any of my non-Apple purcahsed music.  Does anyone know of an easy way to fix this?

I'd do a "deauthorize all" from a computer you have access to, and then reauthorise the computers you still have access to.
For instructions, see the following document:

  • Can Ipot beoperated with any other program other than itunes?

I would really love to use my IPod. Unfortunately, no matter how many times I remove itunes and reinstall it, I get this message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50).
Since I can't get any help from anyone at Apple without purchasing it (and I don't feel I should have to purchase help for a malfunction in a program), does anyone know if I can download books, etc., on to my ipod using something other than itunes.
    Thanks.

As Katrina suggested, see try Media Monkey. For more info, see this article => Music Organizer MediaMonkey Runs Rings Around iTunes.

  • Finding files on an iPod Classic that were added from somewhere other than iTunes

I added files onto an iPod Classic from another source other than iTunes, but can't find that file on the iPod, either its not connected self, or when it is in iTunes.
So, how do I go about locating the file without going back INTO iTunes and adding the file into iTunes' library?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

Have you gone to the control panel and clicked on sounds etc. Your volume may need to adjusted. right click
on play back and there's a sound icon where you can adjust your playback sounds. (device area).

  • How do I choose a podcast program OTHER than iTunes

My iTunes has gone all flukey and I don't know yet what is wrong with it. I have posted about it in other threads.
I'd like to find it out if it IS iTunes itself (like, maybe I need to reinstall it?) or if it's something else (for example, the Winsock catalog fix that I tried did NOT work).
But I don't know how to find another "podcatcher" program.....when I Google and find a list of them, the descriptions are all so geeky I don't know what the heck to pick! I just want to be able to download something (for example one of my video podcasts) in this other program, and import it into iTunes library. That way I could see where the error lies.
Do I NEED a podcatcher program? Is there any other way to download a podcast?
I am also having technical problems with downloading shows (it took me 6 re-starts of the computer to get the whole Lost episode; it boots me totally offline), so it's not just podcasts.
    thanks

This question is no longer relevant. I now have a wonderful MacBook Pro and am happy using iTunes

  • HT4914 I will soon be getting a new PC and I'd hate to lose all the music I've purchased/downloaded from places other than iTunes , is iMatch my solution or am I out of luck?

From what I've read I think this is my solution , but I'm still unsure.

The general question of copying all user data and settings to a new computer is really out of scope for this forum - however, Microsoft does have tools and tutorials on their site on how to do this (details will vary depending on the version(s) of Windows running on your old and new computers.  A Google search for "Windows transfer data to new computer" should provide useful results.
Detailed instructions specific to iTunes also depend on the version(s) of Windows you're running, and on how your current iTunes library is organized.  If you can post a response with answers to the following questions I can point you in the right direction.
What version of Windows in running on your old computer?
What version of Windows is running on your new computer?
    Do you have either:
a network that both old and new computers are connected to, or
    an external (USB) hard drive?
What version of iTunes are you running on the old computer?
Now, on your old computer run iTunes (I'll assume for now that its running version 11), press Ctrl-B if the menu bar is not visible, then select Edit > Preferences > Advanced.  You should get a window that looks like this:
What is shown as the "iTunes Media folder location" (1)?
Is the box labeled "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" (2) checked?
Is the box labeled "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" (3) checked?

  • Credit card from country other than itunes store.

I want to buy apps online, but my credit card is from outside of ireland.
If I change my location to the country my creditcard is from and buy the apps I want, my phone will not download them as they are from another 'store'. I cant seem to change the store that my phone buys apps from either.
I wanted to try and buy a gift certificate instead, but I can't seem to do that either without a credit card in ireland, which I don't have.

You can only buy from the App Store from the country  in which your credit card is registered.
Did you try to log in and out of the store in settings/store/Apple ID on your phone?

  • Sync program other than iTunes

I just purchased an iPod touch. My children have cheap MP3 players. I do not want to manage multiple music libraries and playlists. Is there any other sync option for the touch? Can I add a plugin to WMP and sync a touch? Can I download and use another mp3 manager?

Can I download and use another mp3 manager?
    No.
You may be able to find something to add music, but nothing except iTunes can add Apps, sync your contacts, calendars, notes, email accounts, settings, perform backups, perform firmware updates, access the iTunes Store, access the AppStore, download videos, movies, games, manage your account, etc. etc.
Maybe just buy your children cheaper iPods and manage them all in iTunes?

  • Streaming audio from Logic 7.2

Has anyone found a good way to stream audio from Logic to another computer via the web? I'm tweaking a sound design mix for a client in another city and would love to be able to get them on the phone and have them be able to participate in real time. Where's the Rocket Network when you need it? : )Thanks.

    2 solutions:
    1. Old school: get a telephone coupler and send the mix down the phone line.
    2. iChat: feed your mix into a small mixer, open a mic when you want to talk, and feed the mix into your "line input" on iChat (make sure it's selected in preferences) and do an audio chat.

  • Can Apple TV stream other than iTunes, like Sling Box?

This may seem like a simple question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. I like to stream TV over the internet. Quite often I stream SlingBox from a friend's house, for example. I also watch tv on hulu and download movies from sources other than iTunes. Can I watch any of these on my TV through the use of Apple tv, or does Apple tv only work with iTunes? Thanks.

You can also "convert" the files (movies etc) to upload to itunes to play through 3rd party software like iSquint.
That won't work with a Slingbox, however, because there are no files to convert. It does live streaming from a TV, DVR, etc., over the Internet to a computer using the Slingplayer software or to another TV using a Slingcatcher.
