WCI 10gR3 Warranty

Hi ,
We use Oracle WCI 10gR3 portal and we have heard that this is soon going to be stopped support by Oracle. Please can you tell me when the current support or extended support ends for the 10gR3 version of WCI we are currently.
And upon expiry what are our options, can we buy another year of extended support from Oracle, when do Oracle no longer offer support.

Error in Task #10 (InitializeActivitySpaces) after fresh WCI 10gR3 install

I've tried this several times now with the same results. I'm installing WCI 10gR3 on Windows 2003, Oracle 10gR3 XE, and WebLogic Application Server. I've run the install, setup the scripts, run through the configuration.
But when I run the C:\bea\alui\ptportal\10.3.0\bin\diagnostic.bat, I get to Task#10 and it errors out. This is the error:

The error looks like its an issue with loading one of the new tag libraries in 10gR3.
My suggestion, if you have not done so already, open a support case and have a support engineer look at the issue.
And the diagnostics tool should work even if you are deploying the Portal through Weblogic, provided you are not loading a custom tag library.

WCI 10gR3 Security Database

We are currently working through an upgrade from WCI 6.1, skipping 6.5 and going to 10gR3. I have a question with regards to the use of the Security database.
So right now, in the stack of products I understand that WCI, Analytics, and Ensemble all use the Security Database, and the LDAP Directory Service.
In the documentation, each product specifies to create a security database. So my question is... Does each product require a separate security database, or should all 3 product point to the same one.
Can any one shed some light?

WCI uses the ALUI Directory Service (LDAP Directory Service). Analytics and Ensemble both utilize the Security Service (Security Database) as well as the ALUI Directory Service.
Both Analytics and Ensemble can share the same Security Service instance.
Also be aware that if you use Ensemble 10gR3 in conjunction with WCI 10gR3, install and use the ALUI Directory Service from the WCI installer. Do NOT use the ALUI Directory Service from the Ensemble installer. See the following snippet from the Ensemble 10gR3 release notes:
When using Ensemble with WCI 10.3.0 (WCI 6.5.x), use the ALUI Directory Service (a.k.a the "BEA ALI LDAP Directory") provided in the WCI installer. Do not install the ALUI Directory Service from the Ensemble installer ("Directory Server" option in the Ensemble Custom installation). (Issue #8728047)

WCI 10gR3 - Weblogic Cluster

Hi,
Does WCI 10gR3 support HTTP Session replication using Weblogic Cluster? Is there any documentation about this? I could not find any.

Hi,
Most of the time DB store are used instead of the file store.
I recommend to use DB store only.
with this you have option to use leasing option too.

Ensemble Install issues in WCI 10gR3 (10.3.0)

Hi,
I have installed Ensemble in 10gR3 and choose the install type as Evaluation but it gives error when tying to login on to Admin screen. Here is the document followed for installation:

When giving Administrator/pass for Starting and Verifying the Ensemble Administrative UI gives the following error saying invalid username password but thats what is menioned in the docs also.
Also for Starting and Verifying the Ensemble Proxy getting an error:
An error occurred. Check your Logging Spy logs.
Failed to display a custom error page. The original error is displayed below.
Original error:
The requested resource could not be found. Make sure the URL in your browser is correctAny idea what might be wrong.

Solved it! Wow, that was annoying. By the way, when they wrote "pass" in "Starting and Verifying the Ensemble Administrative UI", what they should have written was that you should use the password you use to login to WebCenter Interaction (WCI) as an administrator. So, use "administrator" as your username (if you haven't yet changed that) and your password, whatever that is. When you installed Ensemble, you set up an LDAP service that taps into the user table that WCI uses, so you can really log into Ensemble as anyone who can log into WCI.
If anyone else did a custom install like I did using an Oracle database, and is seeing the problems that guest0012 mentioned above, you may need to recreate the alui security tables with the user that you created in step 4 on this page: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13158_01/alui/ensemble/docs103/webcenter.103/e14441/install.htm#i1081832. I mistakenly created these tables as sys. Login to your database as sys as sysdba (sqlplus sys/<your_password> as sysdba) and run the drop_security_tables_oracle.sql script. Then log into sqlplus (sqlplus <alui_security_db_user>/<password>), and run script create_security_tables.sql.
Oracle installation guides are horrendous at times. If anyone from Oracle is reading this, improving your documentation must be the easiest and cheapest way to bring in new business. I'm evaluating some alternative products right now and though I like your applications, I am sorely disappointed with the installation guides.

How to use WebCenter Spaces 11g 2.0 Services in WebCenter Interaction 10gR3

Hi,
Can someone explain how to use WebCenter 11g Web 2.0 Services in WebCenter Interaction 10gR3. I have installed Webcenter 11g Spaces. I also have Webcenter Interaction 10gR3 installed. Wanted to find out how can I make use of 11g web 2.0 services i.e. wiki,blog,discussions etc. in WCI 10gR3. How can I configure those services in 10gR3.
As reading oracle notes it says there is a seemless integration of Web 2.0 11g Services in WCI 10gR3 but can't find any steps, tutorials or examples on how to do that. Any help is appreciated.

Possible Upgrade Path from ALUI 6.1 to Webcenter Interaction 10gR3

We are in the planning stages of an upgrade. Currently we are using ALUI 6.1 MP1 and wish to upgrade to WebCenter Interaction 10gR3. I am wonderng if the upgrade path is ALUI 6.1 MP1 --> ALUI 6.5 MP1 --> WCI 10gr3?
Is it possible to go directly from ALUI 6.1 MP1 to WCI 10gR3?

I was told that I could install from 6.1 to 10G. Which I did...
what you need to remember is to run the upgrade scripts to your database from 6.1 to 6.5, and then upgrade scrip from 6.5 to 10G. thats all, but you do not have to run the install for 6.5, just go directly to 10G.

Surprisingly, this is not an easy question to answer. If you are currently running a version of ALUI 6.5, then there is truly not a great reason for upgrading, because there were not a lot of changes made between ALUI 6.5 MP1 and WCI 10gR3. In fact, we essentially think of WCI 10gR3 as ALUI 6.5 MP2. Here is a list of the primary changes that were made to create WCI 10gR3:
• New Adaptive Layouts for iPhone
• New Experience Rule for IP addresses
• Oracle Branding
• Removal of license key requirements
• A few bug fixes across different areas of the products
If one or more of the above items are important, then there may be a good reason to upgrade to WCI 10gR3. However, if the above items are not important, then maybe it isn’t important for you to upgrade quite yet.
On the other hand, if you are currently running a version of ALUI 6.x prior to 6.5, then there are a lot of great reasons for upgrading because there were a lot of new features added between 6.x and WCI 10gR3. The new UI engine called Adaptive Layouts is definitely a very significant improvement as well as the availability of the new Friendly URLs feature. In almost every instance, I would recommend that a ALUI 6.0 or 6.1 customer upgrade to WCI 10gR3.

How to change the UI of Community Links portlet

In WCI 10gR3, how could I change the UI of the Community Links portlet? Basically, I do not want the community icons next to my to-be-linked Community Pages list; All I want is just a heading like Quick Links and the links below.

I would like to add another question about the Community Links portlet; is it possible to modify it so that it can have indentation (ie: categories/subcategories, like a bullet list)? Is there some other portlet available that would allow links to have some kind of categorization rather than appear only non-hierarchically?

Problem with Collaboration and Portal accessed via multiple URLs

Here is the scenario. We have the portal installed that can be accessed from an external domain: portal.company.com. We recently upgraded to WCI 10gR3 and in the process we added an internal server that uses an OAM webgate which handles Integrated Windows Authentication. The URL for out internal access is portal.company.int. The problem comes when we try to access collaboration folders. From our internal URL when we click on a folder in Collab Documents the loading... text come sup and that's it. No other activity in the browser or in PTSpy. If we use the external URL there is no issue.
Anyone have any ideas on how we can get around this or what the cause could be?

try to play with the collaboration server url (for the Collaboration Remote Server )
http://yourserver.com:11930/collab/
Enter the external url here, or better the name of the machine, something like
http://<machinename><yourdomain>:11930/collab/

Is there a good sample of 10g r3 functionality out there.

I remember people.bea.com and that was a good example of profile information as well as a bunch of other features of 6.5 when it came out. Now Oracle has shut that site down or at least locked it down pretty tight. Is there a sample site like this that shows off 11g r3 release? I looked at Mix, but I don't even know if that is done in plumtree or some other oracle portal or just straight html. I have a meeting in a couple of days to discuss enterprise 2.0 and I would like to be able to display some 11g r3 features.
Any discussion on this would be great.

UCM workflow notification - link to document asking for credential.

We are using UCM 10gr3 and WCI 10gr3 in our project. We have integrated the content from UCM on to the portal KD through crawler. Also we have some workflow in place as well.
The problem that we are facing is: The link to the docuemnt in any workflow notification from the content server is prompting for credential.
We want to by pass this..i.e on clicking on the link of the documents it should not asked for credential rather it should show the conent information.
Any help is much appriciated.

OK this is a very different but interesting question...
Lets have another look.
If I understand you, users are already logged into a Windows domain and these credentials are used to authenticate with WCI using 'Integrated Windows Authentication' IWA through the browser.
It is possible to get UCM 10gr3 to use IWA also but this requires that UCM is installed on a Windows Server and is using IIS as the webserver.
If that is the case then the UCM ISAPI plugin code can handle the IWA for you. you would then need to make sure (via a provider and possibly a credential map) that AD group memberships are available to UCM and are clearly mapped to UCNM security roles. Provided the roles evaluate to give the user permissions on the expiring content it will all work without authentication.
NB UCM 11g works in a completely different way
If UCM is installed on *nix or using Apache then this will be too much effort!

Publisher News Portlet Not Working

Hi,
We use Publisher 6.5 with Oracle WCI 10gR3 portal. We have a News Portlet in our home page which has suddenly stopped displaying any content. It has a huge number of news articles, i.e. around 250 Plus articles.
We found a setting in the DET relating to max items which was set to 200, we increased it to 400, and published the whole folder, but things still did not work out.
If we try to preview the portlet while adding to another page, we are able to see the content, but once the portlet gets added, nothing displays once again. Also in Publisher Explorer, the content item attached to the News portlet is not getting displayed if we click Preview. We get an error message "Error - Requested resource is currently unavailable. Request to the remote server has timed out. Try again later or contact your portal administrator.
Gateway was not able to access requested content. If the error persists, contact your portal administrator. "
Please can anyone help as this is an urgent issue

First you should contact Oracle Support and get this set as a priority one issue and escalate it so that you get the fastest possible response.
It sounds to me like you've blown away your index.
I'd check the following:
1)
go into your publisher directory <portal home>/ptcs/publishedcontent/publish/<path to your content>
Verify that the content is actually still there (actual html files of each of your news articles).
2)
go into publisher explorer and check your articles folder (in the appropriate area) and verify that your content is still there.
3)
Within the problematic folder, open the Content Item Index - this will contain all of the items that you've posted to your announcement portlet.
If someone checked-out this file and then did an "undo-checkout" I believe it blows away all changes since the last "check-in" which typically is nothing, and blows away all your content - which would cause precisely the problem you are seeing.

Create Object dropdown menu not displaying

Hi Guru's,
We are facing an issue with our Oracle WCI 10gR3 portal.
We have got several community administrator groups to which community administrators are added. These groups have activity rights like create portlets, create snapshot query, etc associated with them, which enable the different community administrators to create thier own community objects.
This was working fine until somedays back, however we noticed that now, if we add a person to one of these community administrator groups, the CREATE OBJECT drop down menu does not appear under Administration section for the community administrators.
Please can someone help us with this as we are facing severe flak from the community administrators.

off the top of my head check to make sure that the group has rights on that folder. if they do not have admin rights on that admin folder they will not see the create objects dropdown...try that and post a reply.
