WCS 4.1.91.0 is stopped (Win2k2003).

hi!
I'm trying to get access to the fresh-settuped WCS 4.1.91.0 (WCS-STANDARD-K9-4.1.91.0.exe), but cannot.
WCSStatus shows:
Database server is running
Apache server is running
WCS is stopped.
In EventLog (System) I see:
The Wireless Network Management Application service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s).
Also (Application):
The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> [Sun Oct 14 17:51:20 2007] [notice] Disabled use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API .
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Semen Sulyma.

Hi fella5,
thanks you for your answer!
I found after server has started WCSStatus shows:
Database server is running
Apache server is running
The WCS process is running, but WCS is not registered.
The Server seems to be unavailable. The possible reasons are
1. The server is not running yet.
2. The server is hanging.
3 The server has crashed.
If the server has crashed or is hanging
Please report the issue and follow the instructions to restart it.
1. Run StopWCS to stop all WCS processes.
2. Run StartWCS to start the WCS server.
3. If the server still fails to start, or you still get this
message, then reboot the machine.
But after one-two minutes WCSStarus shows:
Database server is running
Apache server is running
WCS is stopped.
Could it be because the server doesn't have a valid licence? But a licence might be downloaded through web interface... So we cannot get access to it.

Here are collections of the Cisco WCS fails to start up.
Case 1: Apache server is not running.
Case 2: If the WCS were installed as a service, try to rebooted the machine.
Case 3: Check if the scripts are manually run from the bin directory. You must not manually run scripts from the bin directory. You must use the links from the Windows WCS programs menu or the scripts from Linux <Install Dir> (that is, /usr/local/bin/WCS22/StartWCSServer).
Case 4: Make sure the following ports are available to WCS.

  • WCS password reset

    Hi all,
I'm very new to WCS and the bloke that configured the bludger has left the company.  I'm trying to get into it but I don't have the correct username/password combination.
My query is:  How does one do a password reset on a WCS server?  Or failing that, is there a way I can ascertain the current unknown passowrd?
I have access to the actual server itself, but not the WCS application.   Searching around Cisco.com shows that apparently there is a utility that can be used to reset usernames and passwords however I can't seem to find it.  I'm not sure if it helps, but the WCS version is:  4.2.62.11
Any and all help will be appreciated and rated as such.
    Thanks,
    Brad

    All,
I found this in a wireless thread, ASK THE EXPERT:
Re: ASK THE EXPERT - WIRELESS CONTROL SYSTEM
I understand it's the login password that you want to reset on your WCS primary for GUI login.
    Stop the WCS server :
    C:\Program Files\WCS6.0.132.0\bin\StopWCS
    Then run the root-user command:
    C:\Program Files\WCS6.0.132.0\bin\passwd root-user PASSWORD
    Start the WCS server:
    C:\Program Files\WCS6.0.132.0\bin\StartWCS.
If this fails, please post your error messages from the CLI.
    seems to work just fine!

    WCS Version 7.0.220.0

    Kristen,
A known issue with WCS - 7.0.220.0 is because of a crash due to native memory which has been identified as the following bug
CSCtu49966 - WCS crashes due to native memory error in 7.0.220.0
The workaround for this issue is to enable Escape Analysis in the JVM.  How to do this is
outlined in the WCS 7.0.220.0 Release Notes at http://tools.cisco.com/squish/3202f .
Essentially, Stop WCS, edit the startServer.bat/startServer.sh file (Windows/Linux)
appending "-XX:-DoEscapeAnalysis" (no quotes) to the set JAVA_OPTS line, then restart WCS.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

Well I would just try to restart the service and if that doesn't work, I would reboot the WCS server.  I have seen that issue before and really, rebooting was the only fix for me.

  • Cisco WCS service stops abruptly

We have WCS installed on a windows server and lately have noticed that WCS service stops all of a sudden without any intervention and needs a manual restart thereafter.
Is it common or a bug that's causing it or hw can it be addressed ?
    thanks:}

This can be quite complex to troubleshoot. Usually this is an Apache crash of the webserver.
At first I recommend that you make sure you have the appropriate hardware and memory ressources on your server as per the release notes:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/prod_release_notes_list.html
Then, it's important to find out what other applications are running on your server and, if you are in a vmware environment, make sure you have the appropriate ressources for your ESX host.
You can post your logs.zip from WCS and I can check what I can find in there.

  • WCS 5.2.130 apache stopped

    Hi,
    I've an installation of WCS 5.2.130 with a win2003 server ( with 8G RAM and 3.4GHz proc ).
I found several time the APACHE SERVER and WCS stopped while DATABASE and HEALTH MONITOR are running
I've seen a bug related a logon/logout from the phisical console, but it's not this the situation.
The workaround is to logon ( via remote desktop ) into the server and sto/restart the WCS.
    Any idea / suggest ?
    Many thanks in advance
    Luigi

    What does eventviewer indicate?
Also, do you have iis running as well?
    there may be a conflict.
Given the fact that is on windows, do you have automatic updates enabled and/or are there local or domain policies that could affect system users that are used for services?
Another workaround would be to create a script that monitors the service and restarts it if the service is down. It has been a while since I messed with windows, but there are many ways to do this

  • 5508 WCS Buffer stops

    Hello,
I have a Cisco 5508 on a new installation.  We currently have autonomous mode  APs through a third party solution.
We have converted two test APs to Lightweight mode  using the conversion tool and controller.
We can associate to the APs and see them join the controller. Our SSID is visible and being broadcast.
We can access sites internal to our network (http traffic). We are unable to load external sites.
A new VLAN was created on our core switch in a port channel configuration to the controller.
When we create traffic using a laptop on the same vlan (through a slightly different path.....we can hit the internet, ftp, and telnet with no problem.  Switching back to the WLC,  telnet and FTP traffic also halt as well.  A few bytes pass and then the TCP/IP sessions hang when passing through the controller.
Our next step is to wipe the config back to defaults and start over. I would like to know if anyone has seen an issue with buffer overflows or stops?
We are running code version 7.0.98.0.
I did a quick search but did not find anything.
    Thank you.
    Dave

We isolated the issue to a problem within the 6509.  No issue on the WLC.
When we relocated the uplink ports from the WLC to another path, the traffic flowed normally.
Not able to go into much more detail than that on a public forum.

  • How to Stop a switch port trace in WCS ?

I just went in to trace a rouge in the system and WCS tells me that I already have 10 allowed traces running and I will have to wait.  How can I see what is being traced and how to kill those traces that I need to.
I'm stuck with a rouge that I'm having to go about old school to find out if its on my network versus using WCS.

Tracing is normally enabled via the WCS Logging facility. Check what traces are enabled here.

PS: I do realize this is not a Cisco supported OS, but I would like to try it before falling back to RHEL

Editing /etc/redhat-release should allow WCS to start.  I run ours on CentOS 5 and I had to make this change.
Just comment out the CentOS line and add the Red Hat line below.  You will probably need to be root to do this and
it may require a restart.  Also after running updates for CentOS I have notice that the file usually changes back
and WCS does not start again.  I keep a copy of the file on the server desktop and copy it over after the updates.
I have not notice any issue with running it on CentOS, just thought I would throw that out there.
    Cheers!

  • Questions about database access in WCS 7.x version

    Hello,
In WCS version 7.x, events from controllers are stored in database. The limits for these events are 7 days and 40000 events. Does anyone know where  we could change these limits?
In the other hand, we can´t access to database because we don´t know user and password to access database. Can anyone pass me default credentials for database?
What is the procedure to change database password in WCS version 7.x?
    Thnaks in advance.

Don't know about username and password for the database, but this might help:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/products_qanda_item09186a00807a60f0.shtml
    Q. How many alarms are kept in the WCS when are they cleared, and what is the average size of each alarm?
    A. The WCS keeps the last 40,000 events in the system and clears them up after seven days. An event or alarm can have 1000 bytes on average.
    A. Under the <WCS_INSTAL_DIR>/webnms/conf folder, there is a file called NmsProcessesBE.conf. Within this file, the user needs to modify the parameter CLEAN_EVENT_INTERVAL (default value is seven days) and the parameter EVENT_WINDOW_SIZE (default value is 40,000). The server needs to be stopped and restarted after the user makes the modifications.

  • Message on WCS/NCS: Attempted to use IP Address assigned to another device

    Hi
i have two WLCs AIR-CT5508-K9, monitored by WCS (in retiring stage) and NCS.
All APs are grouped in HREAP groups based on their locations. The wireless users are getting ip from a dhcp pool running on routers located at each site. All dhcp commands on every routers are the identical. Eg. rtr1, located on site 1 has ip pool for wifi users 192.168.8.0/24. Rtr2 on site 2 has a ip pool for wifi users in range 192.168.8.0/24. Occasionally i am getting bellow message when some wifi users are unable to connect. After creating a HREAP group and associating APs to correct group, this message stops showing for a while but now i am getting them again.
The temp solution to get it all running is to clear ip dhcp pool on router located at affected site.
Any suggestions for a better solution?
    Thanks

    endpoint,
You are locally switching your networks, yes, but even without HREAP and WLCs, they are still connected networks in your overall topology, correct? I would never have site A with a given network that overlaps with a network in site B. With few exceptions, they should be completely separate, unique, non-overlapping network spaces. HREAP doesn’t even come into it.
The problem you’re likely having is that the WLC is seeing clients coming in from two different sites and because you are duplicating your configurations from site to site, the WLC sees duplicate IP assignment.
That said, you can try to turn off client IP address learning on the WLAN Advanced tab to see if that helps.

  • WCS - Some clients never obtain an IP address

I have a multi-floor building with each floor devided into it's own AP group, with it's own respective interface and VLAN.  Everything works fine ... except for the first floor.  We have wireless carts that have two wireless cards on them.  One is built into the PC attached to the cart, and the other is part of the cart itself for management purposes.
We cannot seem to get the cart monitoring onto the network (while the Windows PC's wireless works just fine).  I have gone over the settings for the AP groups, interfaces, controllers, AP's, etc over and over again and I cannot seem to find anything wrong with the setup.  It seems to authenticate to the AP, get connected, and then never obtain an IP address.  I cannot seem to find any problem with the DHCP server or it's scope.  There are plenty of addresses left to hand out.
Here is a 'debug client' dump from the WCS controller.  Does anyone have any ideas of what I might check?

It is obvious that the AP is trying to send KEAPOL-key Message 5 to the client but it does not reply. It tries three times then the timer expries and the AP deauthenticates the client.
In first glance, this is a client issue. I've seen this misbehavior with many such clients like yours when people tried to move from old non 802.11n APs to new 802.11n APs (mainly 1252 and 1142). The clients do not connect to new APs. It was always client issue and people had to upgrade the devices firmware or wireless driver on the client.
One unlucky customer had his clients (wireless guns) out of support so he had to replace them all to get them to work with the new APs. I hope your device is not out of support yet.

  • Can't add Controller over VPN in WCS v6.0.132.0

    Hi
I use WCS v6.0.132.0 to manage my 4402 and 2106 controller both running version 6.0.182.0
When I try to add another 2106 over DM-VPN it fails with the following errors:
”No response from device, check SNMP communities, version or network for issues”
If I move the new 2106 controller to LAN with same config there is no problem.
I found this note in the in “Cisco Wireless Control System Configuration Guide, Release 6.0”
“Note If you are adding a controller into WCS across a GRE link using IPsec or a lower MTU link with multiple fragments, you may need to adjust the MaxVar Binds PerPDU. If it is set too high, the controller may fail to be added into WCS. To adjust the MaxVarBindsPerPDU setting, do the following:
    1) Stop WCS.
    2) Go to the location of the Open SnmpParameters.properties file on the server that is running WCS.
    3) Edit MaxVarBindsPerPDU to 50 or lower.
    4) Restart WCS.”
On my system I have the “SnmpParameters.properties” file is located //WCS6.0.132.0\webnms\classes\com\cisco\server\resources
But I don’t have “MaxVarBindsPerPDU” settings in the file.
Beside some # explanations text, the only settings I have in the “SnmpParameters.properties” file is:
    DebugEnabled                         false
    SerializeRequests                    true
    MaxRepetitions                       10
    MaxRetryTimeout                      60
    WlanTimeoutMsecsPerAP                 50
I have tried to add “MaxVarBindsPerPDU” settings, but it have no effect.
Anyone have an idea what to do?
    TIA

    Thank you so much!
    Step 1 solved the issue.
I changed “Maximum VarBinds per Get PDU” from 30 to 20 and “Maximum VarBinds per Set PDU” from 50 to 20.
    Thanks

  • Oddball WCS map issue !? help please

    Hi,
have tried to create a perimeter on WCS map editor as a test to keep some of the assets from appearing way off the map. It made no real difference. Problem is to remove the perimeter I selected new perimeter (which erases last perimeter) and saved with no new perimeter hence going back to standard (or at least this was the only way i could see to do it)
Now, the maps are done within a "building" as 3 floors. Even though I only chose to edit the top floor when I try to find ANY ward level out I get:
[ServletException in:/pages/monitor/map/buildingView.jsp] Cannot find bean Floors in any scope'
Seems to be a java error?
So Now I cannot find any maps or Access Points on maps either L
Will stopping and starting the WCS database kick this process back into life?
I have already stopped and started jave.exe on the server to no success. I have tried locally browsingon the server to no success and various pc`s and get the same message.
I use a asset tracking piece of software from aeroscout that relies on the ap posistions from WCS and it is still working ? so in the background the information for maps and ap`s locations are still there, i would normally stop and start WCS but this may upset my aeroscout software.
any ideas ? I REALLY dont want to have to replace 350 AP`s on a map again it took days and i need to be running by next week.
    my version is:
    Wireless Control System Version 5.0.56.2

    1. Stop WCS services
    2. Make a backup of your DB
    3. Start WCS services
See if problem has been fixed.
If the issue is still the same, upgrade to WCS 5.2 latest version, that should fix your problem.
