WCS and Guest IP addresses

Hi,
I have both corporate and guest WLANs available, the corporate infrastructure is 2 x WiSM modules with guest access via a 4402 anchort point controller.  When I view client connections in WCS, I see the DHCP address all corporate users have been allocated, but all guest users show up with IP address 0.0.0.0.  The guest users are allocated a DHCP address via a local pool defined on the anchor point controller.
Is there any way I can see the IP address of each guest user?
Many thanks
Liam

Hi,
Clients get DHCP adderss no problem from local pool configured on anchor point controller.  The issue I am facing is that this IP information is not tunnelled through to WiSM module - if I check client details on anchor controller, it shows the IP address allocated to each user.  When I check same info on WiSM controller, it shows every IP address for guest access user as 0.0.0.0.
For reporting and troubleshooting purposes I am wondering if the correct IP information can be shown.
Regards
Liam

Here my problem I need to be able to limit my AD users to a 10min access to the WLAN.  I see you can do this for guest accounts, but you have to manually enter a username and password.  I would like the web authentication to use our ACS which is tied in to our AD.   Is there a way to do this?

    Weterry,
Here the whole story.  I have a bookstore that going to have “Demo” pc for students to buy.  The want to show the internet on these devices, but our security guy require all users to logon.  I was hoping to find a way to let user logon quickly to test these devices.
I have already figure out the web auth and that great feature, but you have to manually enter each user.   If I could get that to use AD and limit each to 10min that would be great. I would like to setup a SSID for the demo devices and limit users to 10 min.
I have 2 WiSM controllers running 6.0 also have WCS .
    Thanks

  • Wireless and guest network and HREAP

    Hi,
I have inherited a wireless infrastructure which comprises of a head office with WCS and WLC plus LWAPP access points.
There is a sub office in another town who wishes to deploy a wireless infrastrucure and it struck me that as they only want to deploy a couple of AP's that HREAP would be good to use in this senario.
However they want to also use the guest wireless network that we have in the head office but I dont want their guest traffic to come to our DSL modem that we have set up for the HO guest wireless. The two offices are connected via an MPLS link which doesnt need anymore traffic on it.
Is there a way of configuring the HREAP and the WLC and WCS so that the sub office breaks out locally for guest and yet the lobby admin at HO can control the password?
    Many thanks,

    Hi Nell,
the feature you are looking for is "H-REAP local switching".
So you can set the remote AP to H-REAP mode (which optimizes it for "behind a WAN link") and from there you can set several ssids as "local switching".
this means that everything about the authentication phase is handled by WLC but after authentication, the traffic is dropped locally at the AP and doesn't transit through the WLC.
The guest SSID has to be enabled for local switching and then, on the H-REAP APs, go in the AP configuration (from WLC "wireless" tab, then click on ap) and in the hreap tab, you can configure the vlan where the guest traffic will be dropped on  the remote site. It must be a vlan that exists on the remote site and users will get a DHCP address on that vlan.

    Nicolas

  • Timed Access controlling Main and Guest Network

I have a Time Capusle 4G running software v7.5.2. I am running a Guest Network as well as a closed network.
In the Timed Access window i have default set to "no access". Then, all the computers that are allowed access to the main network are on the list. My guest network is broadcasting but when a user tries to connect to it, they get an "Unable to connect" message. If I change the default access in Timed Access to "Everyday", users are then able to connect to the Guest network again.
Obviously, this is a bug/missing feature and has been for several software revisions. I don't want people accessing the main network that aren't on the timed access list. However, I still want guest users to access the Guest Network, without using MAC address filtering on the Guest Network.
It looks to me that the Timed Access window is controlling the restriction of the Guest and Main network. Which renders the Guest Network feature pretty much useless.
Hopefully this will be addressed in the near future. If other people are experiencing this problem, Please let me know.
    -Ghost

It looks to me that the Timed Access window is controlling the restriction of the Guest and Main network.
Your observation is correct. Access control using Timed Access is an ALL or NOTHING feature for both the Main and Guest networks. The Guest network is basically a VLAN function.

  • WCS and WLC AP values not fully in sync.

I have recently added several new aps on my network, after they connect to the controller, I set a hostname, and change the ip address to a static. However, WCS still sees the aps by the old ip and host name despite going into each one, hitting audit, and then save, any way to fix this? Thanks.

You may want to also consider the following:
    1) Both the WCS and the WLC need to be at the same major revs (i.e.: The if the WCS is at v4.2, then the WLC should also be at 4.2). Failure to do so results in some significantly bizarre behavior such as errors after an audit - at least that was my experience.
    2) You may have better success if you make the change from the WCS which pushes the change to the WLC and that way the WCS is already aware of the change. (Normally, this should work - I know of one instance where it does not: changing Master Controller Mode from the WCS).
    3) If you feel strongly about making the change in the WLC (and are running a newer version of code in the WCS/WLC - i.e.: 4.x), there is a setting that forces the WLC to send configuration changes to the WCS once APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked:
From the *WCS*, click on Configure->Controllers and click on the controller you wish to change, and check the "Refresh on Save Config Trap" check box and click OK.
This will cause the controller to push any configuration changes up to the WCS after an APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked.
    4) In terms of getting the WCS to actually synch up with the controller (assuming the WCS and WLC are at the same rev. levels), you may need to do what I did (this was subsequent to upgrading to v4.2 in both the WLC and WCS and having chronic "mismatch" status between the WCS and WLC):
    From the WCS:
Configure->Controllers, check the controllers you wish to synch up. From the dropdown, select "refresh config from controller"
Next, select the DELETE option (instead of the RETAIN option). I believe that there are bugs in the software that upgrades earlier revisions to 4.2. I know that it might seem undesirable to DELETE information in the WCS, however, if you choose "DELETE", it seems to get rid of the residual information from the previous revisions that did not upgrade properly and the WCS will now be in synch with the controllers. DELETING the other settings makes the audit errors go away.
Subsequent audits may go better for you after performing the step shown above. However, you may need to repeat this process in item 4 above once or twice more until the database gets cleaned up, but after that my own experience has been that the WCS and WLC will eventually stay in synch.
It is unfortunate that we are forced to come up with workarounds like these when the software should clearly be able to handle this on its own, but we do what we must to get the job done.
    Hope this helps,
    - John

  • VLAN Configuration for Internal and Guest Wireless

    Hello,
We are using the following hardware…
    SG300-52MP switch -- latest firmware
    ASA 5512-X firewall -- 9.1
    Aironet AP1131AG WAP
    We have the following networks…
    10.252.4.0/24 = Internal = ASA-01 interface = VLAN1
    10.252.6.0/24 = Guest = ASA-02 interface = VLAN6
    10.252.6.0/24 = VOIP = ASA-03 interface = VLAN3
The Aironet supports two SSIDs, Secure (RADIUS) and Guest (WPA2), which are supposed to provide access to the appropriate interface on the ASA.
Relevant parts of the WAP configuration are…
    dot11 ssid GUEST
       vlan 6
    dot11 ssid SECURE
       vlan 1

We can manage the WAP through it’s Internal IP address (10.252.4.4).
And the “Guest” wireless network is working -- connecting to that SSID provides the client with the correct IP addressing (10.242.6.X from VLAN6/ASA-02).  [Note:  the VOIP DHCP and network access also works correctly.]
The “Secure” wireless network is not working however -- the client never receives an Internal DHCP address from ASA-01, and even if you hard-code the client’s IP, no IP4 traffic ever passes.
[Note:  connecting a device to a SG300 port with the “Default” configuration provides the client with an Internal DHCP configuration, and it works as intended.]
While this may be a problem with the WAP configuration, I would like to confirm that it is not an issue with the switch not passing traffic correctly.
I have a feeling that I have configured the VLANs on the ports incorrectly.

Can someone who understands this switch better than I do please confirm the VLAN configuration?  THANK YOU!

    Welcome to the discussion area!
+PCI regulations do not consider VLAN a secure way of keeping the data isolated. Does anyone have any technical information on how the device creates the guest wireless network ?+
I spoke to Apple Support some time ago and was told that Apple uses VLAN to create the Guest network, and also that formal documentation was not available on this topic. I was referred to the AirPort Extreme Specifications for available information.
This was some time ago, so if you need more up to date info, you might want to try to contact Apple to see if they are willing to share more information about this feature. Although, since VLAN is used, your question may already be answered.
FWIW, to use the Guest Network feature in a home situation, the AirPort Extreme must be set up as the main router controlling DHCP and NAT on the network. If you were thinking of installing the AirPort Extreme behind another router, the Guest Network feature would not be available in this type of configuration.

  • WCS expiring guest accounts early

Hi Folks, We've had a number of reports from our Service Desk (who create the guest accounts for us) that they've been getting users who have long-term accounts (90days) expire early.
I've taken a look at the settings and sure enough, today there are accounts on WCS that are showing as expired but have a long life time.
    Example:
User(x) created on 13th July with an expiry of the 15th Sept
User(y) created on 12th July with an expiry of the 12th Oct
This is only a couple listed here but the problem seems to be widespread accross long-life accounts. I've checked the clocks and they're all synced between WCS and the WLC's, when accounts are created they are done through WCS and pushed down to the single mobility anchor (our topology is 6 WLC's split over 2 sites, with a 7th WLC for MA with a toe in the internet DMZ)
We're running 7.0.172.0 of WCS and 7.0.116.0 on all the WLC's I think the problem has started to occur as it's really only now that we're using longer life-time accounts in anger.
Originally the accounts were being deleted by the cleaner process, so it just looked like the accounts were disappearing - we've stopped this and now it just shows that they expire.
Any suggestions that you can give as to why this might be occuring would be great!  Unfortunaly we can't create 'unlimited' accounts as our policy is that they should have a lifetime of no more than 3 months, so the overhead on monitoring would be too big - so there has to be an automated process.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kev

I upgraded to WLC 7.0.235.0 and WCS 7.0.230.0 and am still getting users complaining about their accounts expiring early.  Someone please correct me if I have misread something but the WCS is suppose to check the account every so often and re-provision the account based on the expire date set?  We setup our users with 90day accounts that is pushed to two 5508 controllers running the code above, the process works well but the expiration of accounts has become a issue.  Anyone know if the bug was truly fixed in 7.0.235 code or do I need to set the lifetime of the account lower.

standalone AP1231G running c1200-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEC2 setup with internal SSID (VLAN 24)and guest SSID (VLAN 124). Here's the problem
Both SSID picks up the native VLAN 1 dhcp address and not it's respective VLAN. I verify that dhcp server is working on vlan 24 and 124 on the switch but on the AP it always stays with Vlan 1. The AP can ping all vlan interface on the router. DHCP server hangs off the router.

Is it possible that you're VLAN hopping? VLAN 1 is normally the native VLAN, and you have VLAN 9 configured. Check your config carefully and make sure that your native VLAN on all your uplinks is consistent, assuming there are any uplinks. What you posted appears correct, though.
Honestly, I don't see a problem with the configuration your posted. You might want to reset the device to factory defaults or upgrade the IOS to ensure it's not a bug.
You aren't using dynamic VLAN assignment, are you?
Let us know if you figure it out, I'm curious what's going on here :D

  • RADIUS and Guest accounts

I have a Mac Pro OSX server 10.6 (OD Master) and RADIUS enabled for my (older) Airport station.
Macbooks login to the domain, no problems so far.
Now and then a (Windows) Guest (not a member of our domain) walks in and wants to surf the web.
    Is something like that possible?
I configured a GUEST computer and Guest account in WM and guests can surf the web when connected to our switch by cable.
Allowed user for RADIUS Service = 'All users and groups' but I can't get wireless connection going

What would be the best way to take care of guest access?
If I were designing this with the budget for the gear, I'd have an external firewall, and with subnet capabilities established via the firewall/router, or via a managed switch and virtual LANs. Subnets for your stuff, and a subnet for the guests. The WiFi would be connected in the guest subnet.
Some firewalls have DMZ capabilities (which are typically implemented as subnets), and that would be applicable here.
Best case, you're looking to keep the IP traffic separate.
Local preference is to avoid running servers as firewalls.
Options can include commercial firewalls, and open-source options built on double-NIC x86 boxes and packages such as pfSense, M0n0wall or Smoothwall.
If you have two public static IP addresses and a somewhat restricted budget, an unmanaged switch out front (between your firewall and your ISP connection) will give you a spot to connect your WiFi device. Otherwise, you need a firewall/router with three ports: ISP, private LAN, guest WiFi. And rules to keep the guest LAN from accessing the private LAN.
Nothing precludes running two WiFi devices in proximity, so long as they're preferably three WiFi channels apart.
You may (will?) want to have some baseline access controls, lest some malware start up a spamming run from your guest network, or some drive-by war-driver starts messing around with your open LAN.
Higher-end WiFi devices (check Ruckus Wireless WiFi gear, and I'd be surprised if Cisco WiFi gear couldn't) can implement this for you, but those tend to be expensive.
And FWIW, local preference is to run WiFi as access points; as APs. (Apple calls this Bridged Mode.) That way, the network services are acquired from servers "behind" the WiFi devices.

  • Latest Address and the Previous Address in the last 30 days

    Morning folks.
I need to find out all Customers whose Address changed based on the Effective Date. The Query should be based as of Effective Date 01-JUN-12 and not SYSDATE. So, we want to check the MAX(effective_date) is <= 01-JUN-12 and the Previous Address's Effective Date is between 02-MAY-12 and 01-JUN-12 (30 days). This would suggest that an Address has changed. For argument sake, the Zip Code is enough to differentiate that an address has changed for now.
Based on the data, I only want to pick up Customer 1002 but not 1001, 1003. As for Customer ID 1003, even though his/her address changed in the last 30 days, we are not interested as the Address effective 1st June was good for a long time.
Also, even though the Address for Customer ID 1001 changed twice in that period, I am only interested for the latest two addresses.

  • How to get customer and vendor street addresses 4 and 5?

I need to know what table/field has the customer and vendor street addresses 4 and 5 stored in to them and how to access these fields.
This is for mapping on a LSMW customer and vendor data conversion.
    Thanks!
    Scortt

    Thread should be moved to
Such fields do belong to address management tables. eg:ADRC-NAME3, ADRC-NAME4...
In other words they do not belong to customer master data so they are not reachable directly from customer master data fields.
    The link is KNA1-ADRNR = ADRC-ADDRNUMBER
You might face difficulties in the mapping except if you plan to process in LSMW both DEBMAS idocs AND ADRMAS idocs

  • Why can't I cut and paste email addresses when sending documents?

Why can't I cut and paste email addresses when sending files? I have to type them in each time...And it doesn't remember them for the future, as SendNow did.
Also, it seems that the message I type in is not kept, as it was with SendNow?
    Thanks!

    Hi drlaura,
You're correct on both counts--these features work differently Adobe Send than they do in Adobe SendNow.
If you're sending files from Adobe Reader, you can access your local Address Book, which should make entering email addresses easier. Please see: I’m trying to send a file from Adobe Reader, but I can’t access my computer’s address book to find my contacts. Why not?
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

I have created an Apple ID for my daughter with her own gmail address as the primary email address, but I want her Apple ID and primary email address to be an iCloud email address. How can I do this? I can't set up an icould email address for her without first creating an Apple ID right?
I'm not good with computers so please explain in simple way...:)
I also wonder what the best way is to set up accounts for children in a family. I dont want them to be able to purchase apps etc through the parents accounts, also some things we like to share as a family and others we don't want to share. Is there any good. clear, simple explanation from Apple Support about these issues? Or best to go to Apple store and go to genius bar or one to one advise?
    thanks

You can set up an iCloud account which makes the iCloud email address you choose the Apple ID and thus the login for it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22283348#22283348
though I have to say I think it's more sensible if the ID is another address, both for security reasons (so people don't know what the login is) and as a contact address from Apple if the account were to stop working and they needed to contact you. So personally I would to to System Preferences, enter the GMail address which is an ID, and then choose a nerw @icloud.com address.
If she has her own iCloud account she will need either her own computer or her own user account on your Mac to be able to make use of it. You should note that under Apple's terms of use Apple IDs are only available to children of 13 and over.
As to purchasing apps, this is nothing to do with iCloud: it's iTunes, and the login can be different. So you can all sign into the same iTunes account but have different iCloud accounts. Or she can have her own iTunes account if she is of suitable age (credit card needed for purchasing apps).
If you have other children you should be aware that any one Mac or device can create only three iCloud accounts - this is tied to the serial number, not the user account, and once reached cannot be bypassed. You can of course sign into an iCloud account created on another device.
