WCS & AP: AP name keeps resetting to mac

Hi,
I just installed an AP in WCS. When I goto the properties of that AP, i am able to change the name just fine but 2-3 minutes later the name resets back to the mac address of the AP.
I tried changing the name thru WCS and the Controller.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hi,
I am having the same issue with one of my WAP's.
It has been deployed for just over 2 weeks now and was fine until this weekend. Saturday evening and now this morning it has changed its name from what I have supplied through the WLC back to the MAC based name.
WLC5508
3502i AP
code 7.0.98.0
Running in HREAP mode.
I have some 16 AP all running off this controller and so far this is the only AP that appears to be having this weird issue.
I do 95% of my configuration through the gui of the WLC and the other 5% through the gui of WCS.
The name giving was done through the WLC.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have also openned a case with the TAC 618060639
Thanks !

My Apple TV2 keeps resetting when watching NETFLIX. This started about one week ago. I can watch fine from my MAC. Both are hardwired to my Aiport network.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Computer name keeps changing to [myname]'s mac (2)

I change it manually to [myname]'s mac. but few days later the "(2)" keeps appearing. I know its not a "problem", but I don't understand why that happens.

Mine does the same thing. I have also seen others mention the issue as well.
I think that it has to do with your iMac and your router not interfacing correctly. It seems to occur when the Mac wakes up and asks the router for an IP through DHCP and the router has not forgotten the Mac's last IP. The router tells the Mac that another device is using that name and so the Mac alters its name to obtain an IP.

  • Mac book pro settings keep resetting

Hi, I am in need of anyone that can help me with my situation.
About two days ago, when I booted up my Macbook pro, all the settings would have been resetted (dock is full of apps that I removed, exposes resetted etc).
Whenever I would set up all the settings to how I had it, it would still keep resetting every single time I turned the computer on and off.
Just yesterday, my Macbook also started becoming incredibly slow. The first time I boot it up, the screen would always freeze but I could still move my cursor with the spinning wheel. It requires me to manually press the power button to turn it on and off, sometimes twice.
    Please can anyone help me?

Is your data backed up?  If not, you may need to do a data recovery.
If your machine is under 4 years old, resetting the PRAM can help.
If your machine is older than four years, the PRAM battery may need replacing.
If your data is backed up, and resetting the PRAM hasn't helped, getting Alsoft Disk Warrior may work, if "Repair Disk" won't work by booting either the disc that came with the computer and running Disk Utility from the Utilities menu of the installer, or Disk Utility from the command-R boot sequence available on Macs with 10.7 or later installed.

  • Mac Computer Name Keeps Incrementing

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini, both on WiFi connected to an Airport Extreme. Since upgrading to Yosemite, both computers keep changing their name (as seen in Sharing under Preferences) every few hours.
For example, the name changes from "MacBook Pro" to "MacBook Pro (2)", then "MacBook Pro (3)" and so on. This is occurring for both Macs. They each have unique names and there are no other devices on the network, so I don't understand why the name keeps changing as if there is a conflict. I don't see any other error messages. I can change the name back in Settings, but it immediately increments again. Rebooting all devices does not change the behaviour. Neither Mac is connected via Ethernet, only WiFi.
Anyone else see this kind of behaviour? Any ideas how to correct?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • MacBook Computer Name Keeps Changing

Recently my Mac computer name keeps changing. It's the normal name, but with a number at the end that keeps incrementing. How can I stop this?
I'm not sure if it's something to do with the fact I had a partition for the public OS X Yosemite, which I have now deleted.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I was having the same problem for awhile, even contacted support so they could screen share and see what I meant.
What I ended up doing was correcting the name and then unchecking all the boxes in Sharing.  Open up Airport Utility and reset the router (basically I changed my password only because that's the easiest way to make it update).  Go back into Sharing and recheck the sharing options that you had previously.  Viola!
So far it's been a week now and my computer name has not changed.  Hope this helps

  • OSX keep resetting

    Hello.
As the topic says OSX keep resetting itself. I have a MacBook, not C2D, 2Ghz with 2GB RAM. I'll describe it a lil' better below.
It started maybe a week back. I restarted my MacBook, but when the desktop loaded the dock and the iconsizes where set back to default. I thought this was strange but just set them back as I use to have them. Though I discoverd it was more to it. All programs keep reseting themself when I started them. I could change the settings and run the program without problems, but when I restarted, it was back to default again. So I booted with the MacInstall disc and did a repair though discutility there. It found some errors and fixed them, all good. Still I had the same problem when I restarted my Mac. So I decided to reinstall OSX, after that everything worked fine.
Until today when I got the same error, I restarted my Mac after a night's uptime. And I got the same error once again, everything goes back to default all the time.
Though I am sick of reinstalling OSX, takes quite some time and I wanna be able to solve this problem and know why this happends.
Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

  • User Settings keep resetting

I have an I-Mac. I keep using the get Info to set my preferance for opening photos and other items. I find that the computer keeps resetting them to the default settings. For example I want my .jpeg files to open with Adobe Photoshop but they keep resetting to preview. I want certain items to open in Firefox but it keeps resetting to Safari. What am I doing wrong?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are doing nothing wrong. It sounds like LaunchServices is confused.
Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • [SOLVED] Network interface name keeps changing

My network interface name keeps changing between wlp2s0 and wlan0. This is a real pain, since I never know what name will be generated at boot. Most of the time it's called wlp2s0, so this is what netctl is set up to handle by itself. At boots were wlan0 is generated I have to connect manually.
I've tried making the name static by adding a rule to the /etc/udev/rules.d/10-network.rules. The rule i added was:
    SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", ATTR{address}=="48:5d:60:7e:64:e9", NAME="wlp2s0"
Wlp2s0 is generated at boot alright, but I still have to connect manually with this solution. As if the "new" wlp2s0 is not recognized as the old one (same MAC). What gives?
This is on an Asus Eee 1001PXD, with the Qualcomm Atheros AR9285.

I've now been able to replicate the issue, and run the command:
    journalctl -b
    I did find the output:
mai 18 02:30:02 <hostname> systemd-udevd[126]: error changing net interface name wlan0 to wlp2s0: Device or resource busy
I haven't been able to process the whole output yet (I'll continue tomorrow if necessary), but I've found some things that I hope will clearify things. I get similar outputs to the following a lot throughout:
    mai 18 02:30:03 <hostname> dhcpcd[237]: wlan0: carrier lost
    mai 18 02:30:03 <hostname> dhcpcd[237]: wlan0: waiting for carrier
    mai 18 02:30:04 <hostname> systemd[1]: [email protected]: control process exited, code=exited status=1
mai 18 02:30:04 <hostname> systemd[1]: Failed to start Automatic wireless network connection using netctl profiles.
mai 18 02:30:04 <hostname> systemd[1]: Unit [email protected] entered failed state.
    mai 18 02:30:04 <hostname> systemd[1]: Starting Network.
    mai 18 02:30:04 <hostname> systemd[1]: Reached target Network.
    EDIT:
I see now that this is later in time, so that's not so strange after all. I'll look some more.
    EDIT2:
The error code that a name change i impossible is the first time the term 'wlan0' occurs in the log. However there's a line much earlier that talks about wlp2s0:
    mai 18 02:29:59 <hostname> systemd[1]: Expecting device sys-subsystem-net-devices-wlp2s0.device...
But as I said, if this information doesn't help, I'll have a closer look at the output tomorrow. Getting late here in Norway now.

  • How to reset my mac?

I want to reset my mac air. There's 70G of files in my computer, and I have no idea where they came from. What's worse is that I don't know where to look for them. Do any one know how to reset mac/ look for these files?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • File Name Encoding resets to Roman from Cyrillic when importing into iTunes

I have added a large number of Russian songs to my library. Many of the file names were not imported using the correct file name encoding. I downloaded the file name encoding repair app and fixed all the file names in my iTunes library, but whenever I add the songs into iTunes, the names are reset to Roman encoding from Cyrillic. Is there any way to set and lock the encoding so iTunes doesn't reset it?

Fixing the filenames probably doesn't do what you need. iTunes uses the ID3 tags. See this note for info on fixing those:

Just bought a MBPro with OS 10.6.4.
After restarting my sound output settings keep resetting to Soundflower (2ch) from Internal speakers.
It doesn't take too much to change it, but it is pretty annoying and I'm assuming there's some obscure setting that can fix this.
    Anyone able to help?

This fixed it on my Mac Pro. It might work on a MacBook Pro.
    Delete these three files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Reselect whatever sound device you want as your default in the Sound Preference Pane.
