WCS - Clear disk space

I am getting a WCS notification that it does not meet the minimum requirements for disk space (minimum is listed as 30Gb). This has been gradually degrading over a period of time, i.e. a month ago it had 27Gb free but now has 26Gb free. The machine is a VM with 2x 50Gb drives, so space should not be an issue.
I have already performed a defrag on the WCS database, but is there anything else I can to free disk space? E.g. are there any log files I can get rid of?
Thanks

The notification are warnings that you are running low on disk space. WCS does a check to see if the disk space falls below the 30GB threshold, if it does, an alarm is generated.  No major worries but do keep an eye on your disk space. If you are looking to clear logs out, you can stop the WCS services, delete the WCS7.0.164.xx/webnms/logs as they will be regenerated on startup again. Also try removing some of your older backups if you don't need them.

G'day.  I am using iMovie 11 and need to clear disk space.  How can I do that using an external drive, leaving me the option to go back and make changes or access old events or projects from that external drive?

The slightly bigger question is whether you want to move all movie content to the external drive (essentially meaning that drive will always need to be attached when you're working with your videos), or whether you just want to archive older videos off to the external drive.
If you want to move all videos, then just move the 'Movies' folder in your home directory to the external drive, then create an alias of the external 'Movies' back in to your home directory. Now the 'Movies' icon in your home directory will point to the external drive and everything will just work (as long as the external drive is attached when you launch iMovie)
If you want to archive older movies then each Movie should have its own subdirectory within your Movies folder. These can easily be moved off to the external drive, and moved back should you ever need to work on those movies again.

  • HT201612 clearing disk space in mac drive in windows partition

I am using MacBook Air and having both the operating system installed (Windows and linux).
My windows partition "BOOTCAMP" is having 79 GB (30 GB is still free) and Macintosh HD is of 32 GB (only 19.6 MB is free).
I am not able to login to Linux operating system because of low disk space.
I am able to login to Windows OS. I want to clear some dispace in Macintosh HD.
I would request for some help in this regard.

It is not clear how many operating systems you have, two or three. If you have a Bootcamp partition for Windows you can not have three partitions because Bootcamp won't work with more than two partitions. If you want to remove the Bootcamp partition to free up hard drive space you must use Bootcamp Assistant to remove the Bootcamp partition and return your hard drive to a single OSx partition.
So try to better explain what you have and what you want to do.

  • It all started with 'clearing disk space'.

    Hey guys,
So i'm having this grey blank screen problem.
    1) It started off while i was trying save some documents, didn't work so I went to Disk Utility, cleared the free space and then it was fine.
    2) I then tried to surf the web on safari. Some sites couldn't load and some sites did and all of a sudden, my mac just hanged.
I tried to restart/shut down my mac through Finder and it just didn't restart/shutdown so I used the power button instead.
Lo and behold, it took so long to boot and when it did it came to a blank screen.
I did everything I could find on this support page.
    1) Ran it in safe nothing happened
    2) Ran it in recovery, nothing came out
    3) Then it came to a grey screen when I tried rebooting it so i did the PRAM thing and that brought my mac back up.
So to check on it I did an 'EtreCheck' and here it is, seems to be... okay?

To run Diagnostics, you can use the D key during power up.
    Using Apple Hardware Test
Using Apple Diagnostics (for machines after June 2013)
According to last EtreCheck you do not seem to have disk space issues. You can run it again to validate what you have.

  • Prime Infrastructure 1.4: Clear Disk Space

In order to reduce disk space usage on Prime Infrastructure I will reduce the System Data Retention period (for aggregate data) and "Background Data Collection Task" raw data  retention (for non-aggregate data).   If I now run  'ncs stop / ncs cleanup / ncs start, will this inmediately clear the disk space or does some other event clear the disk space?
    Thanks.

ncs cleanup should be able to retrieve some disk space.
You can check the details of how it works from this document here.

  • Recycle bin and 'clear disk space'

a combination issue, in PC settings etc you have the option to manage disk space, mentions the recycle bin at the bottom, HOWEVER, it displays the bin as empty, while it actually has about 6GB in it over at least 1 of the 3 'drives' I have.
also, if you search for the reyclebin it'll always return nothing, the only access to it is via the desktop folder assuming you actually have one, 'This PC' (aka 'my computer' or 'computer') are still accessible via search so why not the bin?
both of these I find pretty stupid to the point I call them bugs, there been anything about this...?

    Hi,
The storage occupied in recyle bin under PC settings is the same as the storage occurpied in the bin in desktop, that means if you empty the recyle bin in desktop, then the recycle bin at the bottom of PC settings will also display empty.
    And regarding to this sentence
"if you search for the reyclebin it'll always return nothing, the only access to it is via the desktop folder assuming you actually have one, 'This PC' (aka 'my computer' or 'computer') are still accessible via search so why not the bin?"
I don't quite understand this sentence, but search result should be related with "Indexng Options" under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Indexing Options
    Yolanda Zhu

    'same as the one on the desktop' well no, its not;
why would you think I'd say otherwise?
also, considering the indexing should already contain the desktop, that doesn't make sense either, and I definitely haven't turned off indexing anywhere.

  • Using up disk space

When I work on a project, I have gotten into the habit of creating a duplicate of the project prior to beginning edits, so if I have to go back I can grab the duplicate. As I progress I have duplicate 1, duplicate 2, etc.  Eventually I get a notice that I am our of hard drive space, so I eliminate the duplicates.  I am somewhat confused, however, since I thought projects were only markers to the media and therefore used up little disk space.  Could there be something else using up the disk space?  I thought once I had imported my media, that there would be very little disk space used until my project was finalized, and I always make sure I have at least 100 or so gigs available after my media is imported.  It is clear to me that I do not yet understand the basis upon which FCPX is working and any enlightenment would be appreciated as to how I can avoid that reocurring message when working on my projects "You are almost out of disk space"  requiring me to stop and clear disk space.

Depending on what you are doing within FCP X and the type of footage used 100 gig can disappear pretty fast.
HD footage grabs around 40 gig an hour plus any render files that is created along the way.
My guess is render files are accumulating.
Have a look in the top level of the drive where the Project is stored to check out the current size.
    Final Cut Projects>Project Name>Render files.

  • Clear empty disk space

When I use Disk Utility to Erase free space on my hard disk my whole mac grind to a holt with constant messages of 'your HD is almost full' - now it's obviously to do with how it clears the disk space but is there any way of stopping in grinding to a holt so early in the process and not alowing any apps to work?

Why are you erasing blank space?
If you are getting a hard drive full error, then you need to delete some files. You need ~10% of your hard drive free for the System and applications to work their behind the scenes magic.
Disk Utility is usually run to fix problems, if you have other applications open DU will very aggressively take control of your hard drive. Don't run it with other applications open!

  • How do I clear up space on my scratch disk?

I'm borrowing a friend's Macbook laptop so i'm less familiar with how Macs use hard drive space..
Basically the drive is nearly full and I frequently get warnings about this that because it's full, I cannot work in Photoshop or perform certain other functions until space is cleared.
I've saved tons of files from the HD to an external drive, deleted them and emptied the trash, as well as frequently purge my temporary Photoshop files. However these seem to be very temporary fixes and as I continue to work in Photoshop I keep getting warnings about the scratch disk being full despite that I haven't added nearly as many files as I've deleted. It doesn't make sense.
I'm on a time constraint and it's not my computer so I can't get a bigger hard drive or anything.
Is there ANYTHING else I can do to clear up scratch disk space??

Probably worth running something like Disc Inventory X so you can see exactly what's taking up the space - could be some files you weren't aware of still lurking around.

  • Problem: There is not enough disk space available to process clips. Clear some space and try again.

    Hi there.
I am running the newest FCPX 10.0.9 and Mavericks, and I am editing a large multicam project. I have approx. 190 GB left on my external event/project disk via USB3 (it has 2TB in total), and I get the error message:
"There is not enough disk space available to process clips. Clear some space and try again."
when I am trying to add clips to an angle in one of my multicam clips. I have made more than 8 multicam clips in the same event, without that problem, but now it won't let me add more.
    What's the problem?

This was driving me nuts as well until I found the sneaky checkbox. In the editing tab in Preferences there is a checkbox for "Optimize media for multicam." If that's checked, Final Cut is rendering ProRes files for every clip you bring into multicam, so it just eats memory. Unchecking that solved my issues; hope it helps you or anyone who comes across this!

Connect the iPod to your computer. Click on the iPod under Devices and iTunes. How large is the "other" category as shown in the colored bargraph? If larger than about 3/4 GB, restore the iPod. That large of "other" indicates corrupted files.

  • Disk space being filled rapidly and only cleared upon restart. what's up?

    hey,
yesterday my macbook pro gave me a disk space error, which i get occasionally because my hard drive is usually pretty full. I try to keep at least 7gb free though, and yesterday i knew that didn't make sense.
turns out my hard drive is being filled really quickly with "something". not very consistantly. sometimes the disk usage in the activity monitor stays consistant, sometimes it moves slowly. and sometimes it will fill mb's a second. it's rediculous. then everything will slow way down and make any sort of troubleshooting really difficult, so i have to to force shut down the computer, and start it up. i then will have 3-5 gb free again, and it's anywhere from 5-30 minutes before it'll start filling again. i'm trying to find associations to applications or anything, and have been looking up log issues and whatnot - to no avail. i used diskinventory to see the space used, and it strangely brought up 66 gb used vs the 70 something i saw in finder and activity monitor.
any ideas? this is making work really inconvenient on here, needless to say.
    thanks,
    luke

Running on the margins (inadequate free disk space) is asking for problems. Get an ext HD and off-load stuff from the MBP's HD. I usually recommend 20-30% free and with relatively cheap HDs on the market, why push the boundaries? See these:

  • Disk space keeps dropping for no clear reason

Lately I have noticed that my disk space keeps dropping. At first I just thought I had more stuff than I realized, but it's getting ridiculous.
I only have about 12 gigs of music, which is my largest use of space.
Today I did an archive and install and as I delete the previous system components my memory keeps changing. A few minutes ago it was 675 MB left, now it's 617! And this is after DELETING some applications!
Does anybody know why this is happening?

You used the term "memory". We're not sure if you're referring to virtual memory or hard disk storage space. If your VM usage is dropping that is actually a good thing because it is freeing up space on your drive, and VM in the six hundreds for Tiger is pretty good. If you're talking about free disk space on your hard drive you are really pushing it close to the edge and are inviting serious computer problems. OSX requires a lot of free space to function properly; that's space it needs to write temporary files, etc. For example, my VM right now is about 4.7GB but I have seen it at 5.7. If I only had 0.6 GB left like you might only have, my computer would crash if I did something that made it need an extra 1 GB and it couldn't find it. You can check VM with the activity monitor application.
