WCS Client Count Report without Map

I have a large campus with a large number of odd shaped buildings for which we do not have accurate floorplans and we need to run historical reports for the client count per AP however as far as I can see this is not possible unless I create maps and floorplans of the site.
Is there any way to get the client count per AP on a historical basis without the need to create maps and floorplans of the whole site.

It's been a while since using WCS, but I've always used maps. I would just suggest you add a fake map even if it's a box and place the AP's on the appropriate floor if possible. An old map is better than no map to be honest. I have had to take the emergency floor plans (old as heck) and copy that or take a picture on my phone and use that on WCS.

AP-EDHB-018 have 160 assoicated client count reported.  Really mean there were 160 wireless client assoicated at a moment or there were a totally 160 connected at that day?
    Any idea?
    Dick

    Hi Kayle,
Thanks for the response.  I think you are talking about this in the above.
Reports > Report Launch Pad > Client > Client Count > Client Count Report Details
    then
AP by Floor Area  and select "All Campus", "All Building", "All Floor"
By doing this I get 700+ APs daily client count in graphical (pdf) view and need to go through manually each graph to identify the top 50, top 100 in a given day.
Is it possible to only filter the top 50, 100 APs ?
I would like see my daily report gives something similar to the below
    AP Name    Max Client Count
    AP01               96
    AP02               83
    AP50               20
Would it possible to get something like this from WCS reports ?
    Thanks
    Rasika

  • Prime 2.1 - Client count report based on ssid

    Dear All,
Is it possible to extract the reports of client count per ap based on ssid..?
Like, AP Name (eg., 2ndFloorAP) --> SSID (Test)--> Client count for past 1day, 1 week, 1 month etc.
As of now i could see overall client count of an ap from prime not based on SSID (under device work center --> unified ap --> client over time --> client count on ap / client traffic on ap)

    Hi Prasan,
Revisiting this issue, if you have your APs assigned to specific campus/building for your company, you can drill down to the specific AP and SSID that you want for that client count. The options that I used to run a report for one AP for one location that we have is as follows:
report title: <enter applicable name for report>
report by: AP by floor area
report criteria: choose edit and search for the location/building/campus and then the specific AP that you want from those fields. Then choose select.
Once back at the report screen you can set the next options:
connection protocol: select from drop down what you want if it is all clients, all wireless, etc.
The next drop down should allow you to select the specific SSID to what you want based upon the individual AP.  Followed by the report time afterward.  This report will output as a line graph showing the total number of clients based upon your search criteria and time frame.  If you want to research client counts and see their mac address and IP ranges then you are limited to only seeing the current associated clients from the operation > work center flow while viewing the specific AP.  Hope that helps.

    Brandon

  • WCS:Client association reports

    Hi,
    In the WCS Menu:
    reports->client->client association
when a client association occurs, the timestamp is referred to the time at which the WLC receives the request of association or the ACK association?
    ex:
    Association Time||Client MAC||Map Location||AP Name...
    11:13 AM||00:01:4a:e5:e0:9b||Campus Nord || A6 ...
is possible to have a timestamp with milliseconds precision?
    Thanks.

Sorry, i missed out to mention - WCS V4.1 is used for monitoring the WLAN.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Client Statistic Report Issues

    Hello Community,
I hope you can help with a couple of issues I am seeing on Prime Infrastructure 2.1, running an evaluation 60 day license.
My PI 2.1 build is currently managing a WLC 5508 running 7.4.121.0, which has been added successfully. No configuration changes were applied to the WLCs, other than SNMP community. No AVC or medianet configuration is applied.
When looking in the 'Operate>Client and Users' dashboard; I can see connected clients and if I select one of them, I can see further details like session, security and client statistics (showing traffic and 802.11 metrics). These are the table views that show current values, however, further down I see graphs but they do not contain any information for RSSI, SNR or traffic sent & received (packets or bytes).
Question: Should I see this information under an evaluation license and if so, what could be stopping it?
Also, when I run the reports 'Report>Report Launch Pad' and select 'Client>Client Traffic' or 'Client>Client Throughput' the resulting report contains 0 bps, when I select 'Report By' AP by Floor Area. I have created a single floor area and placed three access points into it.
Out of interest if I do a report of the same type using 'Report By' All or AP by Controller, I do see traffic graphs for 3 out of 333 access points. Just not the access points that are in my floor area. Also the amount of traffic utilization is tiny (less than a kbps) for a WLC with 800 users.
For a 'Client>Client Count' report using AP by Floor Area, I do see the client numbers connected to the WLC/APs in my configured floor area.
Question: Should I see reports for client traffic and throughput under an evaluation license for floor areas and if so, what could be stopping it?
I have checked the background task and the 'Client Statistics' task is enabled and run time is being updated.
    Kind regards,
    Ian

    Hi,
    here is an update:
There are more than one Report you need to start to get data for Device, FAN, Power Supply, Module - look at these reports:
Report > Report Launch Pad > Device > Inventory
Report > Report Lauch Pad > Device > Wired Detailed Device Inventory
Report > Report Lauch Pad > Device > Wired Module Detail > Wired Module Detail Report Details
SFPs and GBICs cannot be reported til now - there are working on it.

  • WCS Client Reports not Consistent

I am trying to determine how many 802.11b clients I have on my network so I can deside whether to turn off the protocol.  When I run the Client Summary report I get 26 for Number of Users.  However, when I run the Client Count:Daily Stats I only get 14 802.11b clients.  I am including all controllers in each of the reports.  I would expect these two reports to report the same numbers.

What version of WCS are you running?
What version of WLC code and controller do you have?
The WCS reads the number every 15 minutes and calculates the difference by comparing it to the prior polling period.

  • Generation of Client summary report on WCS

    Hi,
I have four WLCs running the IOS  version 7.0 at different locations. All these WLCs are joined to the WCS at one location.
I am trying to generate the client summary report. But i am not able to generate the report as per the requirements.
Please let me know is it possible to generate the client summary report for each controller.(i.e) The report providing the details of the users at each location. If so, Please let me know the procedure.

    Hi,
Client summary cannot be narrowed down to Controller ip.. However, the "Client session report" will help you out in getting the report per Controller and this gives the client TX, RX and you can custpmize it as well!!
here is the link to do it..

  • WCS reponds slow when generating the Client Association reports

    Hello,
I have set a Wireless Network in of our client's corporate office - which consists of one WLC4404, 42 x 1131AG Access Points. WCS is used to mainly to monitor the AP reachability and Client Association and Deassociations from the WLAN.
When i click on Run Now of the Client Association reports; the report is generated successfully. But when i try to view other pages such as Monitor>Network Summary - the WCS stops responding and it takes approximately 7 mins to display the Monitor>network Summary page. At this time i have observed that the server is reachable during the continous ping and the Server CPU utilization remains to 8% and Memory utilization remains to 1.56GB.
Error Message: Error getting dataa from Server. Make sure you have connectivity and the Server is UP.
Server used is a Standard Server HP Proliant ML110 with 1.86GHz Intel Xeon CPU and 2GB RAM. Operating System used is Win 2003 Server with SP1.
Please can one help me solving this problem.

  • WCS Client Reporting

    Hi All,
hoping this is the right sub-forum for this query!
WCS is missing entries from it's client details report.  on our firewall logs I had an IP I wanted to check for it's MAC address, I could see the log entry in our firewall and the time and date stamp along with the wireless IP Address.
I ran the Client Details report in WCS on the date and specified the times between 12:00 noon and 6:00pm and it failed to find the associated IP address in the log.
I know for certain that the IP was active at that point in time and it should appear in a our client details report, but it's not getting logged.
We are using version 7.0.172.0 of Cisco WCS if that makes any odds

You can use the WCS navigator. The Cisco WCS Navigator provides network administrators with easy, cost-effective access to information from multiple geographically diverse Cisco WCS management platforms. This innovative platform allows network managers to partition the unified wireless network at the management level.

  • WCS 6.0 client traffic reports

I've looked around in the reports trying to find one that generates the Client Traffic report on the Home page under the Client tab. It is just a plain and simple graph that shows how much bandwidth has been used. I've only seen reports that show how much bandwidth a client has used or each individual wlc. I just need an overall bandwidth usage. Does anyone know how to create this graph via Reports or any other way?
    Thanks
    Brock

    How about this:
Reports > Report Launch Pad > Client > Client Summary > Client Summary Report Details
Customize the report and only include:
    Number of Sessions - Required
    Number of Users - Required
    Total Traffic (MB)
    Total Throughput (Mbps)

What is exactly a coverage hole ?
If the WLC detects that a client is on an AP with a bad signal strength and stick with that AP, it notes it down. that means there is no other AP to roam to logically.
But because most clients are not so smart in roaming, the default treshold before taking an action is to detect 3 clients on the same AP with bad signal strength. Only then will the AP increase its transmit power (if it's not at the max already).
When the client limit is not reached, it's a "pre coverage hole" alert. The coverage hole itself is when the right number of clients are detected.
Clear is when the clients left or if the AP increased its power (so the clients are at a better signal). Active is that the clients are still there at bad signal (then either there is no enough clients to take action or the AP is already at max power).

  • Report fonts mapping and PDF output problem(Easten European languages)

    Hi experts,
    I have such a problem.
If i run oracle reports(10g) via reports builder all layouts looks fine.
When i run them in PDF format via application server - report text and numbers strech out off frames, also textfields and text itself becomes bigger in size.
Aplication server runs over windows OS.
    Uifont.ali file looks:
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    Arial..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    Arial...Bold.. = "Arialbd.ttf"
    Arial..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    Arial..Plain... = "Arial.ttf"
    Arial..... = "Arial.ttf"
    "Times New Roman"...Bold.. = "TIMESBD.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..Italic... = "TIMESI.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..... = "TIMES.TTF"
I think the problem is with Lithuanian(baltic) letters in the text. If i do not map fonts in uifont.ali file i get PDF report without the
lithuanian alphabet letters, but in this case it looks fine(The same as in report builder)
After fonts mapping, i get my lithuanian alphabet letters, but text and numbers strech out off frames, changes the size and etc.
I put the example of my report uotput:
    http://pirmas.50webs.com/index.html
What else can i do to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any suggestions

For the html output issue , there is a patch available on top of 9021. Please contact your Oracle support representative to get a 90211 patch nd apply the one-off patch of Bug 2472932.
For PDF, please ensure that you are setting the NLS_LANG in the server config file using the dynamic environment switch feature introduced in 90 patch 1 (9021). Please see the patch 1 release notes for the details

  • Install error : disk cannot be used to start up your computer [or] MediaKit reports partition (Map) too small

    Greetings,
I am aware that this problem has been discussed, but in long and vague discussions that I had to sift deeply to find an answer. Therefore I am posting a clear message, as this problem can be very troublesome for someone who just received a Mac OS installation disk and cannot install it.
Situation : you cannot install/update your new system because the installer does not consider your volume.
Error message : this disk cannot be used to start up your computer.
Version française : Ce disque ne peut pas être configuré pour démarrer votre ordinateur.
Also discussed below error: "MediaKit reports partition (Map) too small"
Note : although this occurred with a Snow Leopard (10.6) install DVD, it can alo occur with Lion (10.7) according to discussions on Apple web site.
IF YOUR CONDITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS :
    - You are using an official Apple installation DVD of Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) [or 10.7 Lion] or an official download/upgrade of those systems.
    - Your main Mac partition scheme is in GUID as it should be (check with Disk Utility). That partition contains a Mac system that can start-up.
    - Your volume format is: Mac OS Extended (journaled) [the format should not be Case Sensitive.]
    - You have the hardware requirements to install Mac OS 10.6 (Intel processor; internal or external DVD drive or a linked DVD drive; 1 GB of RAM; a screen controlled by your computer graphics card; at least 5 GB space on the hard disk or 7 GB if you install all components).
    - Using Disk Utility, you of course tried the disk Repair Tool and the Repair Permissions tool.
    - Your hard disk does not have a file called Backups.backupdb (if it does, this means Time Machine has once used this hard disk for its back-ups). Anyhow, if it were the case, the installation would give a different error message (with the word TimeMachine). This file may block the installation: Apple Support suggest to place it in the garbage, *without* deleting it, and placing it back on the disk later. Mind you, if you do not use this hard disk as such to save your Time Machine back-ups, you can simply delete this file.
    HOW TO FIX :
    1. Boot with the 10.6 install DVD (Tip: you can either select Mac 10.6 as the boot DVD in your Start-up Preferences or simply press down c during the start-up).
    2. Above the install screen, you have a Utilities tab from where you can run Disk Utility. Select your hard disk and select the Partition tab. Resize the primary Mac partition (don't add a new one) by decreasing it by about 5 GB.
It will look like this http://i.imgur.com/jHTbr.jpg
( That image shows only one partition, but the same principle applies even if you have two or more partitions on your disk.)
Also see the official Apple how to: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3926
    Version française: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3926?viewlocale=fr_FR
    3. Commit the change by hitting "Apply"
3.b. If you get the error "MediaKit reports partition (Map) too small", this is a rare error where the partition that follows (for example Bootcamp) is slightly overlapping your main Mac partition. You will need to reduce that other following partition. Once you have reduced the other partition, you will probably need to return to step 2 and 3 and try again.
[ For example, in my case, I had resized my Bootcamp with CampTune software and it would seem that the file system ended-up somehow larger than the actual partition container. I simply asked CampTune to reduce the partition a bit (barely 2 GB) and that fixed it.]
    4. Reboot, again into the 10.6 install DVD.
    5. You can then install 10.6.
    6. Once 10.6 is installed, use the Disk Utility on the desktop (you can boot into the primary HD at this point) to resize the primary partition back to its original or maximum size.

nb: in my case, it was on a MacBook Pro (late 2008).

When I click on the icon for this drive, the warning message below states "Mac OS X cannot be installed on 'iMac HD', because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer." Obviously that's not true, since that's where the OS is installed.
How did you partition this drive, if you did that? Does it contain start up or utility partitions for any other OS (for instance Linux)? There have been reports that the "cannot be used to start up your computer" message will appear if a third party utility was used to create a 'triple boot' system or such, apparently because SL is picky about the format GUID partition scheme table info & how partitions are allocated space on the drive by other formatting/partition methods.
For some users with these partitions, the fix has been as simple as "tickling" (slightly changing) the partition size of some partition with Disk Utility, which apparently updates the GUID partition scheme table info so that the SL installer accepts it as safe to use with SL.( In this sense, the message may be trying to say the installer thinks the disk can't be used to reliably start up your computer with SL, not in general.)
See the discussions topic Cannot install Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 for more about this.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - "Site - Client information" reports contain no data

    Hi,
I'm running CM 2012 R2 and have a lot of clients installed. In management console, the clients are active, but Site - Client Information reports contain no data. The other reports, for example, Hardware - Processor etc., show data.
    What is wrong?

Do you have a Fallback status point enabled and defined? if not then most of these report will not work.
However Count of Client for each site should work.
