WCS licences into prime 2.1

I have WCS running version 5.2.148.0 .. It has 450 base licences .
I have now got Prime running at version 2.1
Is there a way of taking the 450 base licences from WCS and import them into prime 2.1 as device licences ???
I aslo have the software assurance plan from cisco !!
regards

That is not the supported method to make you eligible to retain the 450 WCS licenses as PI Lifecycle licenses. SASU for the WCS product would include that eligibility.
SASU for PI only covers the Base plus any Lifecycle and Assurance licenses purchased with your Prime Infrastructure.
You partner should be able to confirm this using both the Cisco Commerce Workspace (CCW) ordering tool and the PI BOM builder (the latter available in the Partner Community)

  • WCS gone into "LITE" mode ?! !

    hi,
My WCS version 4.087 (yes i know its time to upgrade ;) ) has gone into "LITE" mode, and even on my server via the ie browser i cant get into the full version, sure im logged in as 'admin' as normal but cant get anything other than basic viewing options.
why would this happen ? i thought due to my version i may not need to update a licence key the last licence file was 01/02/2007 so is it a year to expiry for the WCS licences ?
    any help is much appreciated.
i can take this oppertunity to upgrade but by uninstalling the WCS software will i lose the maps, ap positions ?
just before it went wrong i backed up the WCS data.
if i wanted to upgrade is it just a case of uninstalling the old software, reinstalling the new and loading the old backup ?
    cheers
    yours (baffled)

not sure i can help with your "lite" problem here but i'll try to address the other questions here...
    1. No, there shouldn't be a time related to the WCS license and therefore no such expiration issues.
    2. If you upgrade and follow the recommended upgrade path (one step at a time, from one version to the next), you should be able to keep all your maps and such. Just don't jump from 4.0 to 5.0 and follow the upgrade suggestions in the release note.
    3. Making backups is good! Starting recently, you don't even have to restore the backup manually. As the upgrade happens, WCS will automatically restore the old backup (but note this a relatively new feature). again, release notes should be able to guide you for an upgrade path.
Also, i'm sure you've checked, but the "admin" user is a part of the superusers group, right?
    This is strange...

bought photoshop elements 11 last year for windows and using it in my desktop. The desktop is crashed now and not usable. So I bought iMac now. Is it possible to trade over or change the licence into iMac version for a small fee. If not , can I partition the hard drive of iMac and install windows and also photoshop elements? which is the best alternative ? why?

A Photoshop Elements license is good for both Mac and Windows so it should be just a matter of downloading the Mac version and using your current serial number to activate it.

  • WCS upgrade to Prime 1.2

I'm currently running WCS 7.0.230 ready for upgrade to Prime 1.2. Reading Cisco docs, the path is to upgrade from WCS to NCS 1.1.1.24 firstly, then to Prime 1.2
    so far...
    export.bat all > wcs-export.zip
also performed a backup via the GUI backup tool
have a NCS 1.1.1.24 - 30 day eval license (docs say eval is enough before upgrading to Prime 1.2 which you have purchased)
A couple of things are not clear to me,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1.2/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp56675
    currently WCS runs
    7.0.230
    Feature - plus
    AP limit 150
    Type permanent
Does this mean I need to uninstall WCS to install NCS cleanly or is there an upgrade path without uninstalling WCS manually? In the download section you can only download  for Small/medium/Large. I intend to download medium, but again there are no specifics I can find in relation to my WCS license i.e. - AP limit = NCS medium or do I look at my new Prime License 500 Device upgrade LIC
I'm looking for better documentation WCS > Prime.

I manged to upgrade to NCS 1.1.1.24 without any problems and successfully migrate the WCS backup file into NCS.

  • WCS licence upgrade issues

    Hi,
My wcs current version is 6.0.196.0 with 50 aps licence. This licence was applied when wcs with 4.1.91.1 version which was base licence. Now with 6.0.196.0 vesion its showing as plus licence.I have to add another 50 plus licence to the existing wcs.But i am unable to add 50 plus because base licence is transformed to plus licence. Its is giving commant that you need base licence to add plus licence.
please help to come out of this mess........
    Thanks in advance

Most likely your original license was "BASE+LOCATION" which now became PLUS.
Anyway, I'm not sure what is the current problem. If your only license is a PLUS, you need to buy an ap-count license for PLUS.
You can't mix base and plus.
Maybe a screenshot of your license screen ?

  • WCS Licence Problem

    Hello;
We have base licence for 100 AP on WCS. In our network we have 75 Cisco Aironet 1242AG series AP.
But WCS give a error like "Percent of AP Licenses Used: Violation".
When we look at the AP count, we see that there is a two record for each AP. One of them is 802.11a, the other is 802.11b/g but AP name is same for two record.
We dont use 802.11a, so we dont need it.
How could we solve this licence problem ?
    Thanks.

My WCS and WLC are set to GB United kingdom
Looks like you have set yours to Turkey
What type of APs have you got?
Mine are AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 which is correct for the UK (E)
Codes for AP part numbers are:
    • A=FCC
    • C=China
    • E=ETSI
    • I=Israel
    • J=TELEC (Japan)
    • K=Korea
    • N=North America (Excluding FCC)
    • P=Japan2
    • S=Singapore
    • T=Taiwan

  • SNMP on CAPWAP via WCS or Cisco Prime

We are interested in adding SNMP settings to all of our CAPWAP wireless access points.  There is no way to do this via any of our controllers or WCS.  We are soon to upgrade to Cisco Prime.
I am able to log in via telnet to a 3502 and manually enter SNMP commands, however I can't save the running config to NVRAM.  I can save the running config to flash, but can't change the config register to look at flash for the config on startup.
Is there a way to configure and save SNMP parameters on CAPWAP wireless access points?

The referenced document states that SNMP management is available.  However, The SNMP settings on a controller (5508 as an example) allows for traps on the controller itself and not on the CAPWAPs.
We have an inventory management system that we want to import our CAPWAPs.  There are over 2500 so manually imputing the CAPWAPs can be a tedious task.  The management system uses SNMP to discover said info.  All of the controllers are already cataloged.

  • Migrate database from cisco WCS to Cisco Prime 2.x

Is possible to migrate a WCS database to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.x?

You were able to go from wcs to NCS, but not to PI. Your better off just exporting the maps and importing to a new install of PI 2.1.

  • Cisco WCS licencing

I have a Cisco WCS server with two WCS-Plus-50 licences installed. unfortunately, I purchased the wcs-base-50 and wcs-plus-upg-50 as an attempt to add additional AP licences to the server however once you have the plus licences installed on wcs you can't add a base and upgrade licence.
Cisco are being really difficult about exchanging the base and upgrade licences for a wcs-plus-50 licence. Does anyone know if its possible to uninstall my existing plus licences from wcs, install the base and upgrade licence and then re-add my existing plus licences?
    Thanks,

You should be able to do that... I have had to uninstall the plus to add an addr license.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Cannot add WLC 5508 v7.6.120.0 into Prime Infrastructure 2.1

    Hi everyone
Hope you can help us with this issue.
We already configure the WLC using this guide: http://mrncciew.com/2013/02/14/configuring-snmp-on-wlc/
    snmp v2: enable
    snmp v1: enable
    default port values
community: incaenic with ip and mask 0.0.0.0 to allow access from any network or ip
traps receiver:                   community: incaenic                 ip: 10.100.100.15
when we try to discover the WLC with the PI it gave the error "SNMP Connectivity Fail"
WLC is on subnet 10.100.102.0/24 and PI in 10.100.100.0/24; there is a Catalyst 3850 between then with no access list on then.
Did someone can guide us with this?
    Best Regards.
    Alvaro Rugama

    Hi,
Which version of SNMP are you using?
If you are using v1/v2 you should be using community string rather than local database credentials?
Regarding the service port what is the ip address assigned on the service port. From the configuration guide "Prime Infrastructure uses the preferred management IP address from the loop back interface. If the device does not have a loopback interface, Prime Infrastructure uses similar logic to the OSPF algorithm to select the router’s preferred management IP address."
    Hope that helps.

  • WCS upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.3

    According to this doc:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps6504/ps6528/ps12239/deployment_guide_c07-721232.html#wp9000642
I can upgrade directly from WCS to PI 1.3.  This doesn't seem to be the case, the "ncs migrate" command does not exist.  Looking over other posts it seems i should setup a demo version of NCS, migrate WCS data to it, then export to PI.  Problem is, the demo version of NCS is no longer on the Cisco site for download.  I opened a TAC case, but I have a feeling i won't hear anything for a while, thought i'd check here to see if anyone else has a suggestion.
    Thanks!

Pull your version from the link above.
Licensing NCS 1.1.1.24 won't be necessary to import the wcs data using the ncs migrate command
and the backup command used to get a backup from the NCS system.
Be sure to install Path 12 before running the ncs migrate command....

  • Migration WCS to Prime 2.2

    Hi,
A Customer of mine has three instances of WCS he wants to upgrade to Prime 2.2.
Regarding the upgrade path there are several steps. If we have to follow this path three times
this takes at least three days of work.
I wonder if there is a way to rehost the WCS licenses to Prime 2.2.
Another question is, if the maps exported out of WCS contain the AP positions and if they
can be imported into Prime 2.2.
    Regards,
    Urs

    Hi,tsgruu2000.
Sorry to say that you cannot rehost the WCS licences to Prime 2.2. You need to purchase new license for the Prime once you upgrade it. For further assistance kindly email me directly at ([email protected])

  • WCS to Prime 1.2 licensing

    Hi
I am doing a migration from WCS 7.x to Prime 1.2
There is a WCS 7 to Prime 1.2 migration license pack that we have obtained.
However, as I understand it, we need to install NCS 1.1.1.24 first, import the WCS database and then carry on to do the NCS to Prime upgrade.  So we have the licenses for the final Prime 1.2 deployment.
When we get to NCS 1.1.1.24 we cannot migrate off of the main login page until we apply an appropriate NCS license.  We were told by Cisco Sales that a temporary license can be generated for NCS 1.1.1.24 by sending licensing the license XML file taken from WCS along with the VUDI and our license order info.  We have followed this path successfully once.  We sent the XML file to Cisco along with some other info and they returned a license we could use on NCS.  We then moved to Prime 1.2.  However on this occasion Cisco insist we need an NCS license.
I have moved from NCS 1.x to Prime 1.2 before and all the licenses have been retained.
So are Cisco telling me that to migrate from WCS 7 to Prime 1.2 I should license the NCS server and simply upgrade it to Prime 1.2 with no further licensing needing purchased ?   If so why is there a WCS to Prime 1.2 license pack ?
Or are Cisco saying we need the NCS license AND the Prime 1.2 licenses ?
    Thanks for any input, St.

    Thanks for this too Scott.
I see that you could license NCS 1.1.1.24 then move to Prime 1.2 without applying further licenses.  I have done this in a NCS to Prime upgrade.  Prime maintains the NCS licenses.  However there is a WCS to Prime 1.2 License SKU which we have ordered because we are starting from WCS on this occasion.  The licenses generated from these PAKs do not work on NCS 1.1.1.24
So it would seem that the WCS to Prime migration SKU does not include the necessary license to allow us to pass through NCS 1.1.1.24 during the migration.
I think if we had ordered a WCS to NCS migration SKU we would have got the necessary NCS license.  We could then install that and carry on to Prime 1.2 with no further license requirements.  If that is the case why is there a WCS to Prime 1.2 migration SKU ?
We did resolve this issue before by following the advice of Cisco Sales.  We logged a call with licensing, supplied the exported WCS license XML file and the NCS VUDI and they gave us an NCS license.  However, on this occasion licensing are not so forthcoming.  They suggest we need a NCS 1.x licence.
So either they are implying we need a NCS 1.x AND a Prime 1.2 license.  Or we should have bought a WCS to NCS migration license and the NCS to Prime migration license is useless because it does not allow us to pass through NCS as part of the migration process.
Thanks for any help on this, St.

  • Migrate WCS 7.0.172 to Prime 1.3

    Hi all,
I need to migrate from WCS to Prime in order to support WLC 7.4.
I'm a little bit confused about license migration procedure, I have read that it is necessary to move trought Prime1.2, so the license code that I need is:
    R-W-PI12-M-K9
WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime   Infrastructure 1.2 Migration
    R-PI12-BASE-K9
Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Base   License and Software
    L-PI12-LF-1K-LIC
Prime Infrastructure 1.2 -   Lifecycle - 1K Device Lic PAK
    L-PILMS42-1K-M
Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 -   1K Device Upgrade Lic
    L-W-PI12-1K-M
WCS to Prime Infrastructure 1.2   Migration 1K Device
How I can obtain .lic file for Prime from license present on my WCS installation?
The export from CLI procedure on WCS, export also the actual License?
Where is the procedure? I think there are some steps on the machine and others on the Cisco site
NOTE: I also change the position of the software from a virtual machine to another one
An additional request, in some document I read that it is possible to migrate directly to Prime1.3, is it true?
    Thanks
    Valerio
