WCS license AP count

Hi guys,
I have one question regarding licensing on WCS.
We have a license for 100 AP-s, and our WCS in on 99% of capacity.
What would happened if we add 1 more AP to WCS (101 total) ?
Will the WCS generate an error, will it delete old added AP-s to make room for new ones?
Tnx

WCS will still work fine.  You will get a message when you connect to the server stating that you are over your licensing limit and need to update the license.   You will NOT be able to add new controllers until you upgrade the license but you can still add access points.

How many APs does wireless controller 5508 and WCS (version 7.0) supports?
    Cheers,

Sorry for jumping in on the question with another question but it seemed the right place.
    I have an AIR-CT5508-25-K9 WLC and +25AP license : L-LIC-CT5508-25A.
As far as I understand it the WLC should already have a 25AP license installed and with the adder license I should have a count of 50 APs.
However, after installing the adder license the count is still 25.
Could you please let me know if it's just something wrong in my reasoning or should a case be opened?
    Thank you,
    Barbara

  • Wcs license upgrade issue

    Dear all,
We have two 4400 controllers which support 50 Access points each and wcs with 100 base license. Now we added 5508 controller supports 50 access points.wcs is upgraded with another 50 ap license. The 5508 controller is joined to wcs and the licence showing permanent.WCS showing all aps and showing both 100 and 50 licence as permanent.
But the issue is while loging into the wcs it showing the error message as"The system is in violation of license. The number of APs registered is greater then licensed."
What might be the reason. Please help me.
    Attaching the screen shot.
    Thanks in Advance
    Bose.

Because your WCS is still licensed for 100 APs ....
There are 2 license level : Base and PLUS.
You had a 100 AP Base license.
You bought a PLUS_UPG license which upgrade 50 out of your 100 AP count to PLUS.
Result : you now have 100 AP licensed on WCS, out of which 50 have the "PLUS" feature set.
You should have ordered a "BASE ap count 50" license. or if you want to go to plus, a "plus_UPG" license but for the 100, and then a plus ap count 50.

  • WCS License Upgrade

    Dear All
I am trying to upgrade a WCS running a plus license f 100 access point. with a base license of additional 50 access point.
the base license is already purchase, is there any workaround to do this?
please check attachment to see the error
    Thanks,
    Elie

    Hi,
If WCS is licensed for the feature type - PLUS,  only PLUS licenses can be added.
Whereas the license file you're trying to add is a BASE license which can't be stacked on top of a PLUS license. Hence the error reported by
    thus the error.
For ex , WCS-PLUS-50 for plus while WCS-APBASE-50 is for base.

  • WCS license migration

    Hi all,
I have a situation at a customer place. They have 2 WCS servers with plus licenses, AP capacity 400 and 300 resp.
They have a plan to consolidate the two locations into one and use single WCS server for management. Is it possible to use the license from the WCS server with 300 AP capacity onto the WCS server with 400 AP capacity?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Girish

The license is tied I the WCS hostname. So you would have to open a TAC case with Cisco license to rehost that license to the WCS you want to use. You would need smartnet also.

  • License WCS (Wireless Control System) Problem to install

    Hello,
I'm Christopher, I have a need to update the WCS and license this, but when I perform the load operation, this throws me this message.
"You must have Base a license in order to install an upgrade license"
    How I can fix it?

    Hi Christopher,
Base license should always be installed before you can upgrade license count.
For ex if you buy 2 AP's initially and got WCS license with them and installed then on WCS.
Now after few days you buy few more AP's and want to add them to WCS you won't be able to do so unless you have base license. So please contact license team to get base license(Only needs to be installed once not everytime.)

  • WCS vs Controller License Question - 5500 series.

In the WCS License Center, there are two sets of license options: WCS and Controller. Am I to understand correctly that:
    - WCS License count is how many APs can be monitored by WCS?
    - Controller License count is how many APs can be connected to a WLC?
    Thanks!
    -Robert

Think of each controller license as independent license. Although you have 2 AP licenses at 25 each you can aggregate 50 access points to the controllers (25 each). This would of course negate full redundancy.
But you can steer access points incase of failure in the above example.
Suppose you have 30 access points ( 15ap location 1 and 15ap location 2). You are over 5 access points over for full redundancy.
Suppose location 1 is a higher priority then location 2 and you want to make sure you have all the aps up at location 1. You can add a priority to the access points at location 1 so they connect to the controller before aps at location 2.
    Just an fyi

  • WLSE - WCS upgrade license question

    Hello,
We need to upgrade our WLSE to WCS but our sales people bought the wrong license (WCS-Standard-K9) Is it possible to upgrade the WLSE to WCS with this license and just get the conversion CDs needed from you ?

    Hi Gudmundur,
    This will not work, plus you have probably paid more that is necessary as the Upgrade Licenses are le$$ to encourage this migration. You should,as noted by Dennis contact your SE or;

Converting Existing CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS Licenses
CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1130-19 or 1133) can be converted into a server that runs Cisco WCS. This allows customers of CiscoWorks WLSE to migrate to the Cisco Unified Wireless Network architecture using their existing CiscoWorks WLSE platform. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion SKUs are price-adjusted to make transitioning from CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS cost-effective.
Once converted, a CiscoWorks WLSE is no longer a self-contained appliance; it becomes a server that runs Cisco WCS software using RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0. The converted CiscoWorks WLSE operates as a brand new Cisco WCS installation and supports only lightweight access points and wireless LAN controllers that are running Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). Stand-Alone (autonomous) access points are not supported by a converted CiscoWorks WLSE.
All WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 SKUs ship with two special conversion CDs. These CDs will check to make sure that a CiscoWorks WLSE is installed prior to beginning the Cisco WCS conversion process. The conversion software will not install if the CiscoWorks WLSE software check, performed by the conversion software, does not pass.
Note: Please take note of the following special considerations for CiscoWorks WLSE conversions.
CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) and CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1105) are not supported with this SKU. Do not install the CiscoWorks WLSE CDs on to the CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) appliance or CiscoWorks WLSE (Model 1105). This conversion is not supported and will not work.
A CiscoWorks WLSE that has been converted to Cisco WCS cannot be reverted back to operate as a CiscoWorks WLSE.
To find the model number of a CiscoWorks WLSE, look at the compliance label on the bottom of the chassis front bezel. Only CiscoWorks WLSE with a compliance label that says 1130-19 or 1133 can be converted to Cisco WCS.
Please see Appendix C for information about receiving support for existing SMARTnet® (hardware support) contracts for CiscoWorks WLSE.
Customers that are migrating their existing CiscoWorks WLSE to operate as a Cisco WCS server should select from the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 SKU family and then select one of the sub-SKU options based on the following:
    Base or Location
Access point quantity. (The CiscoWorks WLSE conversion CD's do not automatically provide support for a set number of access points or location services. The number of lightweight access points supported as well as Cisco WCS location is selected by the customer based on the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 family sub-SKU. Customers can select the sub-SKU that contains the access point count and Cisco WCS option that they wish to support.)
A Cisco Ordering Tool sample for WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 is displayed in Link.
    PAK Certificate, Instructions and CD
Customers that purchase the SKU family WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 will automatically receive, by U.S. mail, two special CDs containing the CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS conversion software, as well as the PAK certificate, instructions on how to register the PAK and links to Cisco WCS manuals and release notes. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion software cannot be downloaded.

  • WCS to Prime 1.2 licensing

    Hi
I am doing a migration from WCS 7.x to Prime 1.2
There is a WCS 7 to Prime 1.2 migration license pack that we have obtained.
However, as I understand it, we need to install NCS 1.1.1.24 first, import the WCS database and then carry on to do the NCS to Prime upgrade.  So we have the licenses for the final Prime 1.2 deployment.
When we get to NCS 1.1.1.24 we cannot migrate off of the main login page until we apply an appropriate NCS license.  We were told by Cisco Sales that a temporary license can be generated for NCS 1.1.1.24 by sending licensing the license XML file taken from WCS along with the VUDI and our license order info.  We have followed this path successfully once.  We sent the XML file to Cisco along with some other info and they returned a license we could use on NCS.  We then moved to Prime 1.2.  However on this occasion Cisco insist we need an NCS license.
I have moved from NCS 1.x to Prime 1.2 before and all the licenses have been retained.
So are Cisco telling me that to migrate from WCS 7 to Prime 1.2 I should license the NCS server and simply upgrade it to Prime 1.2 with no further licensing needing purchased ?   If so why is there a WCS to Prime 1.2 license pack ?
Or are Cisco saying we need the NCS license AND the Prime 1.2 licenses ?
    Thanks for any input, St.

    Thanks for this too Scott.
I see that you could license NCS 1.1.1.24 then move to Prime 1.2 without applying further licenses.  I have done this in a NCS to Prime upgrade.  Prime maintains the NCS licenses.  However there is a WCS to Prime 1.2 License SKU which we have ordered because we are starting from WCS on this occasion.  The licenses generated from these PAKs do not work on NCS 1.1.1.24
So it would seem that the WCS to Prime migration SKU does not include the necessary license to allow us to pass through NCS 1.1.1.24 during the migration.
I think if we had ordered a WCS to NCS migration SKU we would have got the necessary NCS license.  We could then install that and carry on to Prime 1.2 with no further license requirements.  If that is the case why is there a WCS to Prime 1.2 migration SKU ?
We did resolve this issue before by following the advice of Cisco Sales.  We logged a call with licensing, supplied the exported WCS license XML file and the NCS VUDI and they gave us an NCS license.  However, on this occasion licensing are not so forthcoming.  They suggest we need a NCS 1.x licence.
So either they are implying we need a NCS 1.x AND a Prime 1.2 license.  Or we should have bought a WCS to NCS migration license and the NCS to Prime migration license is useless because it does not allow us to pass through NCS as part of the migration process.
Thanks for any help on this, St.

  • WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade

    Hello,
Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
    1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0  version
    2. Export WCS database
    3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
    4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
    5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
    6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
    7. Patch NCS software
    8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
    9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
    1. Export LMS 3.2 database
    2. Install LMS 4.2 software
    3. Install license to LMS 4.2
    4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
    5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2
    6. Export the device list with credentials from LMS 4.2.2  and import it as a Bulk Import in CPI 1.3
At the end we will have CPI 1.3 and LMS 4.2.2 software running.
Is it possible to directly upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.4 and then import data to CPI 1.3 or we need to go with 4.2.2 version?
    Regards,
    Jelena

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Max. number of WLCs per WCS

    Hi,
I know this is a fairly basic question but I can't find answer in WCS Q&A's etc.
I'm looking at a deployment where there will be many small sites with only 5 or 6 APs and a 2106 WLC. Each site will be in a different mobility group.
I know WCS licensing counts APs, but is there a max. number of WLCs?
    Thanks, MH

    Hi Mark,
The supported number of WLC's per WCS is based on the WCS Platform used :)
    Minimum server requirements
    Cisco WCS High-End Server
    • 3000 lightweight access points, 1250 standalone access points, 750 wireless LAN controllers
    • Two Intel® Xeon Dual Core CPU's; 3.0 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 200 GB HDD
    Cisco WCS Standard Server
    • 2000 lightweight access points, 1000 standalone access points, 150 wireless LAN controllers
    • Intel® Dual Core CPU; 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD
    Cisco WCS Low-End Server
    • 500 lightweight access points, 200 standalone access points, 50 wireless LAN controllers
    • Intel® CPU; 3.06 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 30 GB HDD
CiscoWorks WLSE Models 1130-19 or 1133 running Cisco WCS
    • 1500 lightweight access points, 100 wireless LAN controllers
    • Intel Pentium 4 CPU; 3 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 38 GB HDD

  • WLC and WCS conflict

Hi I am currently using 21 X WLC with N+1 Redundancy and 1X WCS with 1000++ of LAP1020. If had been observed that the antenna type and power TX had been changed with no reason. Is there any settings that may affect with AP customized Tx Power and antenna settings other than using the WCS template to push the configure to the APs instead of the WLC.

    Thank you,
    Barbara

  • Confused on WCS Licnese Upgrade

I have one WCS running 7.0.164.0
It has a "plus" (permananet) license for 50 APs
I need to increase my AP count, so I have obtained an additional licnese for 100 APs from Cisco.
When  I attempt to upload the new licnnese the WCS, I get an error telling me I must first have a Base License.
I would have thought that if the WCS initially came with a Plus license, then the Base License would already be included.
    What am I missing ?

    Dennis,
WCS licenses can't be mixed. The stacking would need to be happen in a certain order. In this case, since you already
have a PLUS license only PLUS licenses can be stacked on top of it. The right part for this would be WCS-PLUS-100 whereas you have been sold WCS-PLUS-UPG-100 (UPG is an upgrade license which goes only top of a BASE license). You would need to exchange this for the right number & then host the license to get it added to WCS.
    Hope this Clarifies a bit.

  • ISE 1.2 Active Base License

We are using ISE 1.2 for authentication on wireless and have noticed that base licenses are being consumed and show as an active endpoint for devices that attempt to connect to the SSID.  Is a license consumed for any type of radius authentication request, even if it is a failed request?  Does this mean that repeated requests to connect  to the wireless network assocaited with ISE will use an active license?
There are currently no active enpoints at the moment yet I see 31 active base licenses used.

The Cisco ISE license is counted as follows:
•A Base or Advanced license is consumed based on the feature that is utilized.
•An endpoint with multiple network connections can consume more than one license per MAC address. For example, a laptop connected to wired and also to wireless at the same time. Licenses for VPN connections are based on the IP address.
•Licenses are counted against concurrent, active sessions. An active session is one for which a RADIUS Accounting Start is received but RADIUS Accounting Stop has not yet been received.
Once you reach the license count/limit, you will start getting an alarm messages. license traps and alarms are just informational and not enforced. While the alarm is generated when the soft limit of endpoints is crossed and there is not functional impact on the users. To avoid service disruption, Cisco ISE continues to provide services to endpoints that exceed license entitlement. However there are plans to implement a hard limit on this soon.

  • CIsco ASA 5505 and VPN licenses

    Hi,
Cisco ASA 5505 comes with 10 VPN licenses in a standard configuration.
How those licenses are counted? Will I need a license per one IPSec SA?
If I have two site connected with LAN-to-LAN VPN with 10 subnets at one site, how many licenses will be taken? 10 - one per IPSec SA or just 1 - one per point-to-point VPN?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Alex

    Alex,
In an ASA 5505, it should say something like this...when you do sh ver.
    VPN Peers : 25
It means that you can have so many peers connecting to the ASA. Its not per IPSec SA.
    Its a per tunnel license.
