WCS msg - WLC "containing" valid AP?

Hi All,
I often see this message from WCS (v6).
AP 'LAP01' is being contained. This is due to rogue device spoofing AP 'LAP01' BSSID or targetting AP 'LAP01' BSSID. - Controller Name: WLC1
Where LAP01 is actaully an AP associated with WLC1. Why would the WLC try and contain one of its own AP's?
Or am i reading the message incorrectly?
Seems to happen on a number of WLC's and seemingly random AP's.
RLDP is disabled and the auto contain options are disabled.
Any ideas?

Are all of your WLCs in the same Mobility Group?
Sometimes the best way to troubleshoot these cryptic messages is to just open a TAC case and ask.

Unable to download photos from my camera. iPhoto returns an error message that states: The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file or the files may not contain valid data). FILE NAME: 100_0490.JPG      REASON: com.apple.ImageCaptureCoreError- 9905.  WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?  Did not have a problem importing photos under the LEOPARD OS, however, now that I have upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 the iPHOTO app is not performing the imports.

Are you using Photos, or iPhoto? Maybe you've got a corrupt file on your camera. I would try using the image capture application to import the bad picture to my desktop. If it works and the picture looks ok,  then delete that pic from the camera, then try to import into iphoto again. You can then import the pic it was saying was bad from your desktop.
Or, try downloading all the pics using image capture and then import from the download folder.

  • Do I need to have WCS with WLC?

Looking to upgrade my 802.11b setup of original AP4800e's and 340's. I've settled on the 1130, and I would like to get a WLC appliance, but do I need to get the WCS too?

You don't have to have WCS.
We were told by Cisco sales rep we should got WCS and WLC to ease the managing tasks. So we got both. But I have finished configuring WLC without even install the WCS. All things are working fine to me, although I would have to say the WLC on-line/PDF help documents need revolutionary improvement to be useful.
We did install WCS last week. Haven't had a chance to look deep into it yet, but just from the surface it is more for "monitoring" instead of the real configuration. So, I would say WCS is nice to have for big deployment.

  • Rogue AP - Not in sync with WCS and WLC

    WCS - 7.0.164.0 and WLC - 7.0.98.0.
For some reason, I am seeing rogue ap alert on WLC and am not seeing on WCS.   How do I clean up database and sync with WCS and WLC.
I am seeing same thing with coverage holes.

    Allen,
On the WLC go to Management > SNMP > Trap Controls, make sure that you have the traps checked.

  • WCS and WLC AP values not fully in sync.

I have recently added several new aps on my network, after they connect to the controller, I set a hostname, and change the ip address to a static. However, WCS still sees the aps by the old ip and host name despite going into each one, hitting audit, and then save, any way to fix this? Thanks.

You may want to also consider the following:
    1) Both the WCS and the WLC need to be at the same major revs (i.e.: The if the WCS is at v4.2, then the WLC should also be at 4.2). Failure to do so results in some significantly bizarre behavior such as errors after an audit - at least that was my experience.
    2) You may have better success if you make the change from the WCS which pushes the change to the WLC and that way the WCS is already aware of the change. (Normally, this should work - I know of one instance where it does not: changing Master Controller Mode from the WCS).
    3) If you feel strongly about making the change in the WLC (and are running a newer version of code in the WCS/WLC - i.e.: 4.x), there is a setting that forces the WLC to send configuration changes to the WCS once APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked:
From the *WCS*, click on Configure->Controllers and click on the controller you wish to change, and check the "Refresh on Save Config Trap" check box and click OK.
This will cause the controller to push any configuration changes up to the WCS after an APPLY and "Save Configuration" are clicked.
    4) In terms of getting the WCS to actually synch up with the controller (assuming the WCS and WLC are at the same rev. levels), you may need to do what I did (this was subsequent to upgrading to v4.2 in both the WLC and WCS and having chronic "mismatch" status between the WCS and WLC):
    From the WCS:
Configure->Controllers, check the controllers you wish to synch up. From the dropdown, select "refresh config from controller"
Next, select the DELETE option (instead of the RETAIN option). I believe that there are bugs in the software that upgrades earlier revisions to 4.2. I know that it might seem undesirable to DELETE information in the WCS, however, if you choose "DELETE", it seems to get rid of the residual information from the previous revisions that did not upgrade properly and the WCS will now be in synch with the controllers. DELETING the other settings makes the audit errors go away.
Subsequent audits may go better for you after performing the step shown above. However, you may need to repeat this process in item 4 above once or twice more until the database gets cleaned up, but after that my own experience has been that the WCS and WLC will eventually stay in synch.
It is unfortunate that we are forced to come up with workarounds like these when the software should clearly be able to handle this on its own, but we do what we must to get the job done.
    Hope this helps,
    - John

  • WCS and WLC WLAN Config not fully in sync

    Hi,
We're facing the issue WCS and WLC WLAN Config is not fully in sync. WLC  showing server 1 is IP:10.160.22.151, Port:1812 but WCS server showing none even  after click on “Audit” button. Any idea how to resolve this issue? Is this causing any wireless problem? Attached is screen captured. Thanks for your help.

You mentioned "audit". Have you done a WCS audit so the WLC and WCS are in SYNC?
If you make a change on the WLC you will not see it in WCS UNLESS they are SYNC. You will see the term "mismatch".

  • The extention does not contain valid signature...".

    Hi
I made .ZPX file. But during unpacking it shows an alert "The extention does not contain valid signature...". What can be reason and how to fix it?

    Hi Maxim3,
It is difficult to tell what is wrong with your ZXP without inspecting what's inside it, but here are a few things which could cause this kind of error in Extension Manager
Adding files to the ZXP after it has already been signed
Adding a whole folder to a ZXP, rather than the contents of a folder (since Extension Manager won't find your MXI in the root level of your ZXP)
Adding files which contain double-byte characters (e.g. Traditional Chinese)
The command should have looked something like this:
    java -jar ucf.jar -package  -storetype PKCS12 -keystore cert.p12 -storepass password outputfile.zxp -C "/inputfolder" .
[note the dot (.) at the end of the command]
Probably the easiest way to package a ZXP is using Adobe Exchange Packager:
    https://www.adobeexchange.com/api/Packager.exe
    https://www.adobeexchange.com/api/Packager.dmg
...as you can use this to create self-signed certificates, and it guides you through the process of packaging and signing.

  • Extension does not contain valid signature

    Hi all,
I open again a thread about a problem at our extension installation on several computers.
Few persons can't install our extensions. They get this message: " The extension xxx does not contain valid signature. The extension will not be installed"
Our plugins worked always since the beginning ( about December 2010 )
Our certificate is valid and has been created by TrustCenter.
I use ucf.jar with correct parameters...
I thought that's a manifest problem. So, I tried to generate plugins from Extension Builder trial version which generates manifest "automatically" but the result is the same. I also tried to get a release from a non-signed certificate ( 1024-RSA and 2048-RSA )....but unsuccessfull...
How to get a extension with valid signature for all computers ?
    Thanks.
    Regards.

(@harbs: already budgeted for it )
Yesterday we finalized our investigation and we now have a plan regarding the fix. Our #1 priority has been to get a working solution to customers ASAP. Here are the details:
    Problem
The current implementation of Extension Manager cannot access the system root keychain on Mac 10.7.1. That is due to a particular component used by Extension Manager.
    Solution
    Stage 1:
We will make a manual fix available by Friday 10/28 morning Pacific time. The fix will be a .swf that end-users should download and manually replace the Extension Manager .swf on their machines. After they replace the .swf, they can go ahead and install extensions using Extension Manager. This will only apply to users who are on Mac 10.7+. In addition, your users should be running Extension Manager CS5 or CS5.5 and should download the latest update through Adobe Update Manager if they haven't done so already.
I understand that this is not optimal user experience but it is the fastest solution that we can make available.
We will post the .swf and detailed instructions on this forum thread.
    Stage 2:
We are already working on an update to Extension Manager that will be available through Adobe Update Manager in mid November. The update will work even if some of your users have replaced the Extension Manager .swf on Stage 1 above (ie it will overwrite the fix from Stage 1). Only users that face this problem will be notified to download the update.
Note 1: Doing the manual fix is not necessary. You could still wait until the AUM update is available.
Note 2: The fix we do in Stage 1 is different than the one we'll do for Stage 2.
Note 3: No update is necessary for CS Extension Builder or the CS SDK.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you again for helping us in discovering and solving this issue and your understanding as we drive to a solution. I will keep you all posted as news develops.

  • WCS and WLC, On the same VLAN ?

Whats best practice ? Is it better to have the WCS on the same vlan as the controller(s)
    Johann Folkestad

Given the fact that it is snmp traffic, the WCS to WLC snmp read/writes should be confined to a subnet(s) that are secured by ACLs/firewalls/rfc1918 address space, yada yada....
One way to do it is to place the WCS behind a firewall on the same or reachable subnet as the WLC service or management ports. I prefer using the service port on the WLC for the WCS snmp traffic, this way I can prune that vlan off the switch trunk ports that the WLC connect to as well as put it in a subnet that is away from prying eyes. I have had it working just fine since 3.0.2x all the way up to the latest rev this way.
the controller will touch an additional vlan for each dynamic interface you create for wlans
You can also dual home the WCS server, but the default option on WCS install/upgrade is to bind to one interface (it will detect & prompt in regards to multiple interfaces - at least on the Linux version).
Also don't forget to lock down https access to WCS web frontend as well

  • Messagein OSS as "SAP Note does not contain valid correction instructions"

    Hi all ,
Iam trying to implement the OSS Note 170334 in the SNOTE transaction. When I hit Implement, I get a message -"SAP Note does not contain valid correction instructions" .
Could any one help me what to do now. We are now using ECC 6.0.
    Thanks in advance,
    Guru

    Hello,
The SAP note "170334" does not contain any correction instructions means no code changes to be implemented . You want to test whether the note can be installed in the customer system using the Note Assistant. This is not possible because the note does not contain any correction instructions.
The Note Assistant can only install notes that contain correction instructions. Correction instructions describe changes to the source text of ABAP programs, ABAP includes, function modules, method implementaitons, and screen flow logic.
This particular is just for information and you will see some 5-6 related notes in this note.
Also , whats important here is too implement/refer  the long text of the message .
    Hope this helps.
