WCS upgrade help

Hi All,
Yesterday I upgraded WCS from 5.2.130 to 6.0.132 and now the WCS "home page" will not load. I've attached a screen shot of the error. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

You can not downgrade, or you will loose your data.
You have in my opinion a configuration issue or a browser issue with the IE 8. Perhaps you can play with the settings to remove those messages.
WCS was not tested with IE 8 and not supported, perhaps try to tweak the settings in IE 8 to get it to work or convey to your management that IE 7 is needed.
I guess we can mark this resolved.
On a positive note: WCS does load and work, it's a browser issue here.

No where do I see a link to "cancel iCloud upgrade" HELP?

Yes, I'm familiar with the old RTFM rule, but I tried four different times to retrieve that manual form the Apple site. Each time got an error message that something was wrong, that they were working on it, and to please come back later. On the fifth try last night, I got through and successfully downloaded the user guide.  Woo hoo!

And just what sort of changes in "appearance" did you expect?
If you can access the editing, conversion, and/or properties options once a file is loaded then the QT 7 app has been upgreaded for "Pro" use.

  • WLSE to WCS upgrade path

    Hi,
Could anybody tell me if they are aware of an upgrade path from WLSE to WCS using existing WLSE hardware? Can anybody point out the main benefits/features moving to WCS from WLSE?
    Many thanks
    SJ

    Hi Scott,
    Just the 1130-19 or 1133 are supported;
The new Cisco WCS SKU family, WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9, is now available for CiscoWorks WLSE customers that wish to migrate from CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1130-19 or 1133) to Cisco WCS. These new SKUs are price-adjusted to make transitioning from CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS cost-effective.
All CiscoWorks WLSE conversion SKUs ship with two special conversion CDs. These CDs check to make sure that a CiscoWorks WLSE is installed prior to beginning the Cisco WCS conversion process. The software will not install if the CiscoWorks WLSE software check, performed by the conversion software, does not pass.
This SKU family supports only ***CiscoWorks WLSE hardware models 1130-19 and 1133. To find the model number of a CiscoWorks WLSE, look at the compliance label on the bottom of the chassis front bezel. ***Only CiscoWorks WLSE with a compliance label that says 1130-19 or 1133 can be converted to Cisco WCS.
Note: CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) and CiscoWorks WLSE (Model 1105) are not supported with CiscoWorks WLSE conversion SKUs. Do not install the CiscoWorks WLSE CDs on the CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) appliance or CiscoWorks WLSE (Model 1105). This conversion is not supported and it will not work.
Once converted, a CiscoWorks WLSE is no longer a self-contained appliance; it becomes a server that runs Cisco WCS software using RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0. The converted CiscoWorks WLSE operates as a new Cisco WCS installation and supports only lightweight access points and wireless LAN controllers that are running Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). Autonomous access points are not supported by a converted CiscoWorks WLSE.
Customers migrating their CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS do not need to buy a copy of RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0 software. A copy of RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0 software is included with the CiscoWorks WLSE migration CDs. (RedHat Linux AS v. 4.0 is not supported by a converted CiscoWorks WLSE.)

  • Installing WCS - upgrade path

Hello, I have WCS with location version 3.0.101.0 on CD, and want to know the best path to take regarding installing and upgrading to work with my controllers. I have two WiSMs with versions 3.2.78.4 and 4.0.179.11 with about 350 access points. I know I need to upgrade the controller verisons to be the same. Should I upgrade to WCS 4.0.87.0? Do I need to upgrade in steps, or go for the latest version right off. I want to upgrade WCS before adding any controllers.
    Thanks

We upgraded our WLCs to 4.0.179.8 prior to installing the WCS (installed from scratch 4.0.81.0) and had good success.
The release notes for 4.x discussed a problem if you update the WLC to 4.x while the LWAPs are connected. I remember something about the APs being unable to download the new firmware successfully which sounds like you could end up with a real mess on your hands if the APs lock up in that state.
From page 6 of the installation notes: 6 "Connecting 1100 and 1300 Series Access Points: You must install software release 4.0.179.8 on the controller before connecting 1100 and 1300 series access points to the controller."
Here is the link to the installation notes:
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Software/Tablebuild/doftp.pl?ftpfile=cisco/crypto/3DES/wireless/aironet/WLAN/4400/WLC-4.0.179.11-ReleaseNotes.pdf&app=Tablebuild&status=showC2A
In terms of AP licensing, we ran into an issue where there were no AP licenses for the WCS. However, since this was a new install of WCS 4.0, and you are performing an upgrade, your experience might be better than ours was. If you run into AP licensing issues with WCS 4.0, you may want to reference the following forum thread:
(forum user, ethiel, ended up with better information than TAC on this particular problem):
    http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Wireless%20-%20Mobility&topic=General&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddc79a8
Finally, you may want to double check the firmware rev levels of your existing access points. Hopefully, this will not apply to you, but since you said you are running 3.x on one of your WiSMs...

  • WLSE - WCS upgrade license question

    Hello,
We need to upgrade our WLSE to WCS but our sales people bought the wrong license (WCS-Standard-K9) Is it possible to upgrade the WLSE to WCS with this license and just get the conversion CDs needed from you ?

    Hi Gudmundur,
    This will not work, plus you have probably paid more that is necessary as the Upgrade Licenses are le$$ to encourage this migration. You should,as noted by Dennis contact your SE or;

Converting Existing CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS Licenses
CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1130-19 or 1133) can be converted into a server that runs Cisco WCS. This allows customers of CiscoWorks WLSE to migrate to the Cisco Unified Wireless Network architecture using their existing CiscoWorks WLSE platform. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion SKUs are price-adjusted to make transitioning from CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS cost-effective.
Once converted, a CiscoWorks WLSE is no longer a self-contained appliance; it becomes a server that runs Cisco WCS software using RedHat Linux ES v. 4.0. The converted CiscoWorks WLSE operates as a brand new Cisco WCS installation and supports only lightweight access points and wireless LAN controllers that are running Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). The conversion software will not install if the CiscoWorks WLSE software check, performed by the conversion software, does not pass.
Note: Please take note of the following special considerations for CiscoWorks WLSE conversions.
CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) and CiscoWorks WLSE (Models 1105) are not supported with this SKU. Do not install the CiscoWorks WLSE CDs on to the CiscoWorks WLSE Express (Model 1030) appliance or CiscoWorks WLSE (Model 1105). This conversion is not supported and will not work.
A CiscoWorks WLSE that has been converted to Cisco WCS cannot be reverted back to operate as a CiscoWorks WLSE.
To find the model number of a CiscoWorks WLSE, look at the compliance label on the bottom of the chassis front bezel. Only CiscoWorks WLSE with a compliance label that says 1130-19 or 1133 can be converted to Cisco WCS.
Please see Appendix C for information about receiving support for existing SMARTnet® (hardware support) contracts for CiscoWorks WLSE.
Customers that are migrating their existing CiscoWorks WLSE to operate as a Cisco WCS server should select from the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 SKU family and then select one of the sub-SKU options based on the following:
    Base or Location
Access point quantity. (The CiscoWorks WLSE conversion CD's do not automatically provide support for a set number of access points or location services. The number of lightweight access points supported as well as Cisco WCS location is selected by the customer based on the WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 family sub-SKU. Customers can select the sub-SKU that contains the access point count and Cisco WCS option that they wish to support.)

    PAK Certificate, Instructions and CD
Customers that purchase the SKU family WCS-WLSE-UPG-K9 will automatically receive, by U.S. mail, two special CDs containing the CiscoWorks WLSE to Cisco WCS conversion software, as well as the PAK certificate, instructions on how to register the PAK and links to Cisco WCS manuals and release notes. CiscoWorks WLSE conversion software cannot be downloaded.

  • Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro Upgrade Help needed!

So basically I need somebody to walk me through this like I'm computer illiterate, which I'm generally not, but hesitant to get started without actually understanding the whys and hows.
I bought a Thinkpad S440 with preinstalled WIndows 8 Pro.
It has the Win8Pro sticker at the bottom and the five recovery disks.
Now, the store told me that Lenovo had downgraded it to Windows 7 Pro, so this is what I'm running currently.
I want to upgrade it first to Windows 8 Pro and then to Windows 8.1 Pro (unless I can do it all at once?) Clean install preferable.
It does not have an optical drive, so the Recovery disks which state they can be used to upgrade are pretty much useless. I don't have access to an optical drive anyway, so I can't create iso images of them either.
Also, I don't have a Windows 8 Pro Product key, because apparently it's embedded in the BIOS.
I'm at a loss as how to go about this thing. I bought a Windows 8 Pro machine, I want to be able to use Windows 8.1 Pro. I mean, it should be possible, right? The stickers and purchase order all state Win8 Pro as the OS.
P.S. There's also a 20GB partition on my SSD for Lenovo Repair & Recovery? Is that usable somehow? Why is it there?
Advice? Walkthroughs? I'm completely frustrated with the lack of Product Key.
I've done several upgrades and clean installs on previous computers, but I've never felt limited like this....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi clen3k,
You might not have to do that, but nowadays USB optical drives are very inexpensive and you should be able to find a drive even where you are located.
But, back to the original question.  Seeing as how Windows 8 was preloaded and your machine was downgraded to Windows 7, your recovery partition should contain the Windows 8 OS.  I say, "should".
Have you loaded anything into the Windows 7 OS that you don't want to lose?  Loading Windows 8 might be as simple as booting into Rescue and Recovery and returning the machine to factory settings.  Or, just go into Rescue and Recovery from the desktop and return the machine to factory settings.  Once you are in there you should be able to see what OS Recovery is going to install.
Only thing is if you don't like Windows 8, you will have to jump through a few hoops to get Windows 7 installed back onto your machine.
I would suggest getting yourself an external hard drive if you don't already have one and doing a backup of the current OS before you start so you could return the machine back the way it is now if something messes up. No matter what happens, down the road you will want to do current backups on a regular basis anyway so you need to have something to do those backups on.

  • Time to Upgrade - Help!

I currently have a 1.8 G5 that I bought in 2005. It came with Panther 10.3.7 and up to now has been relatively stable. Since I bought the computer within the Tiger realease window, I have the Tiger disc in hand. Since I now need Tiger to upgrade iTunes, Quicktime and other items, I now want to upgrade to Tiger (also as a prep to Leopard).
My migration from System 9 to to 10 on my iMac was a total disaster, even as I had compltely mapped out the change. I don't want this to happen again. I have read many useful helps in these forums and are now trying to put together, hopefully, a good plan of implementation.
At this time, I have repaire permissions using Cocktail, updated all other items using Mac Janitor and am in the process of saving certain folders & files to a DVD.
I am most concerned about, after the upgrade:
    1. If my Airport connection will still operate or do I need to save additional settings.
    2. Will I still be able to connect to the internet without any additional settings.
    3. Am I missing anything in the process so I don't lose my Home settings.
I'm sure somewhere along these items, they may have been many items posted and the ones I have read have been informative, but I'm looking at the big picture and want to make sure I cover all the bases.
Do I really need to back up the entire hard drive? I'm not sure how to do that, but I did purchase a new LaCie DVD RW to assist me if that's the case. I have already used it to back up certain files and folders.
I've been a Mac user for years, it just seems that as more is added to these software update, you have to increase your learning curve by quite a bit.
Hope I've been clear enough on what I am looking for and I appreciate any assiatance. Hope I didn't get too wordy.
    Thanks in advance

First backup your current system. Make a bootable backup to a second internal drive or an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    8. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Verify the settings for Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only. If they are not correct then reset them.
For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.
    Second, repair your hard drive:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Third, proceed with the Tiger installation. The default should be an Upgrade install. This preserves all from your previous system. Bear in mind that any third-party software you currently use that isn't compatible with Tiger will require upgrading.
Fourth, after restarting into Tiger run Software Update and install the required updates to bring Tiger to its current version.
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)

  • Beige G3 upgrade help needed

    Hello everybody.
I have a few questions about upgrading the G3 if anyone would be willing to help.
First of all, I must tell you that I am new to the apple world, having been for most of my life a PC/windows user.
    The story so far:
I was given a beige G3 desktop by a friend who had upgraded to the G5. I decided to use the G3 as a web browser and general 'lifestyle' computer as I use my PC for business.
However the G3 was a little old and outdated as it was for my needs.
    G3 266MHz
    256MB RAM
    6 MB VRAM
    6GB HDD
    Mac OS 8.6
I couldn't even get it online as the modem cable had been lost long ago (it had been connected to my friends office network)
I tried building a modem cable myself out of a printer cable and a PC modem cable and that, as you can imagine, failed in a major way.
I did a bit of research and found out that OSX can connect to a windows network so I set about getting a copy of jaguar.
Once I got hold of a copy of jaguar (from applerescue £28 inc delivery)
I installed it without a problem and connected to my windows network allowing me to utilise my existing broadband connection.
Excellent, thought I, but why stop there.
I have built and upgraded many pc's in my time and I had a few components hanging around. Will they work in the G3?
    One way to find out.
The first problem I encountered was one of cables and space. As you all probably know the beige G3 does not have much room inside for extras.
I also found that the desktop case was not suited to the environment. It took up way too much space on my desk. I couldn't put the monitor on top of it as it is a big heavy 20inch crt (my friend is a graphic designer) and there is a shelf over my desk that prevents it. However there was a space under my desk which the case would fit in perfectly, if only it was on its side.
Merely putting the case on its side didn't help. The design of the case meant that the thing kept falling over. The cds would fall out too and I had no idea what damage it would do in the long term.
So, junior hacksaw and drill in hand, I set about a major conversion.
A day later I had sucessfully ripped all the components from the G3 case and fitted them in a standard ATX PC case. Now it fits under my desk perfectly.
I fitted the original apple PSU inside the case and fitted the ATX PSU on top.
I spent a little money online and got a 1GHz G3 upgrade from OWC.
(A brief word about OWC. Ordered Sunday evening, package delivered with no VAT or customs charges on Wednesday! Better delivery than a UK vendor and loads cheaper too!)
I used some PC100 RAM I had lying around from a previous PC build.
Standard crucial 184pin SDRAM. Worked no problem. I ordered an extra stick of RAM along with the CPU upgrade.
So I now have a G3 in a ATX tower case.
    1GHz G3 CPU
    768 MB RAM
    Original 6 GB hard drive
    Extra 17GB hard drive
    Mac OS X
Loads of extra room inside for extras.
I run the hard drives and the motherboard plus a heatsink/fan on the CPU from the apple PSU and the optical drives and a few extra fans from the second PSU.
Sorry that was a long read but I tend to get carried away when I am talking about computers.
Here are some problems I am having which I hope you kind, clever people can help me with.
    1. I have a missing hard drive.
I have two ATA hard drives on the internal IDE channel 0 which work fine-ish (see question 2)
I have the original apple CDROM as master on internal IDE 1 and a small 1GB hard drive as slave on internal IDE 1. The small hard drive doesn't show up on the desktop. I can see the drive in disk utility but I can't do anything with it. It is not greyed out but any erasing or partioning gets so far then just stops. However, opening disk utility during installation doesn't have the same problems. I can erase and partition the drive and it shows up with the second listing under the name of the disk. Once OS X is installed it shows up on the desktop perfectly functioning. Once I have restarted it is gone again.
I read somwhere that having a hard drive and CDROM on the same IDE channel can cause problems, is this what is happening here?
I have a yamaha CDRW on the internal SCSI bus, if I use that as my CD drive and remove the CDROM from the IDE channel will that help (I'll try that anyway)
    2. The original apple hard drive works so much better than the extra drive I fitted. I installed a 17GB drive as master and have installed OS X on it but it is so slow. I know the drive is 4600rpm but I can't believe how much faster the apple hard drive is. I have installed OS X on both drives and the difference is stunning. With OSX installed on my 17GB drive it takes just over 14 minutes to boot up, with OSX installed on the apple 6GB drive it is more like 2 minutes. I know that the 17GB drive is old and slow but that is a big difference. Could it be a driver problem?
I have looked around online for drivers for the hard drive but, as I said before, being new to the apple side of computers I don't really know where to start looking.
    3. I have installed an unsupported USB card. It seems to work fine. Everytime I boot up I get a message saying:
'over current warning - the usb device installed is drawing too much power, the hub it is attached to will be disabled.'
I click okay but the thing still works!
I have a wireless mouse plugged into it and it works fine even though it has been disabled.
    Is this going to explode?
The words 'over current' sound scary.
    4. Harking back to question 1. If I disconnect the CDROM on the internal channel to enable me to use my third hard drive, will I be able to boot from the SCSI CDRW?
    5. Can anyone suggest a good system monitoring program? As mentioned I bought a CPU upgrade and I am a little suspicious about it. I want to know what speed it is running at. The docs that came with it say the the apple system profiler will not give the correct reading of CPU speed and I should use CPU director instead.
Call me cynical but is it possible that the CPU I bought is not what it says on the tin.
ASP says it is 333MHz and it should be 1GHz. CPU director does indeed say it is running at 1GHz but can I believe that? It is, in my opinion, possible to write a piece of software to give the wrong CPU speed thereby allowing someone to sell a 333MHz chip as a 1GHz chip and saying 'only our software can give correct readings'
I had the same thing with a broadband supplier recently. My connection was really slow for days. I ran several online speed checks to ascertain the speed. Out of the six speed checks only the suppliers own one said I was getting the connection speed I should have been, all the others gave really low speeds which reflected in the fact that it took an age for a web page to download, not something you should be getting on a 2Mbit connection.
On the phone to the suppliers customer services and they refused to take any speed check but theirs as true. I ran theirs and it always came up with the same number. 'Then your connection is working perfectly' they said. The five other speed checks and my own eyes told a different story but they wouldn't have any of it, instead telling me my PC was to blame, even going on to tell me to disable firewall and antivirus and run my PC in safe mode with no startup programs!! ********. Anyway, I want a third opinion about processor speeds so if anyone could tell me the name of a good program to do this (preferably free) I would be grateful.
Thanks for any help any of you can give me. I am learning more and more about apple hardware by the day and I am fast becoming one of the converted.

    Hey guys,
    thanks for answering so soon.
    To answer the questions asked:
The motherboard is either a rev b or c. I remember checking this when I first had the idea of upgrading the cpu. I am not sure if it is a b or c but it is definately not rev a.
I think the cpu upgrade is working fine.
As Frank mentioned, it seems most of the cpu speed utilities use ASP for their information and give exactly the same speed reading.
I went a little more basic.
I ran CPU director and put the cpu speed at 333MHz and timed how long it took a few apps to open, then used CPU director to put the speed up to 1000MHz and timed the same programs again.
The speed difference was more than noticeable so from this I can only assume the CPU is running at 1GHz.
I have installed 9.2 on a seperate partition but it seems to be a weird version.
It came with a freinds G5 software for his iMac and is labelled 'additional software'
I installed it on a whim (because I am like that) and it gave me 'classic support'
I can now run classic apps in OSX and I have, on occasion, been able to boot into the 9.2 system. Only occasionally though.
Once booted into the 9.2 system there is no optical drive support and hardly any of the options I remember from OS8.6.
From this I am assuming that it is a cut down version of 9.2 bundled with new iMacs to enable users to use classic apps.
That doesn't explain why sometimes I can boot into it though.
Any of you heard of something like that.
I am planning to purchase a full copy of 9.2 when funds allow.
I have disconnected the CDROM which is on the same IDE channel as my third hard drive and used the cuda button to force the motherboard to recheck its hardware. Upon boot though the only difference it made is that I didn't have a CDROM. The third hard drive was still awol.
The SCSI yamaha CDRW is bootable but that makes little difference as disconnecting my IDE CDROM makes no difference on whether or not I can see the third hard drive.
I do know about the 8GB partition and OSX is sitting on the first partition which is 7.95GB.
I tried using xpostfacto to get around this which kind of worked. It did allow me to put OSX on a larger partition but caused no end of problems at boot so I cleared NVRAM and erased all the hard disks and started afesh.
The 17GB hard drive is in fact 15.91 GB, sorry about that. It came in a PC I bought which was (incorrectly) labelled as having a 17GB hard drive and since then I have just called it the '17GB hard drive'.
Since I last wrote I have done a little more research on the hard drives and found that the 6GB original apple drive and the 15GB drive are both 5400rpm so that cannot be the problem.
Here is some more accurate information on the drives:
    IDE 0-
Master - 15.91GB Fujitsu MPE3170AT - seems to work fine apart from the aforementioned slowness - first partition is 7.95GB with OSX installed.
    Slave - 6GB Maxtor 90651U2 - works fine
    IDE 1-
Master - Matshita CR57 CDROM - works fine and is bootable.
Slave - 1.19GB WDC AC21200H - this is the one I just cannot use or see.
SCSI internal - Yamaha CDRW - works fine and is bootable.
Could the problem be that I have overloaded the internal bus by having four devices on the IDE and a SCSI device?
I have since used a program called disk warrior which states that the 1GB WDC disk is of an unrecognisable format.
I have sucessfully used disk utility to zero it out but it makes no difference.
I think it may just be trashed.
The USB card is still a puzzle.
I am, right now, using a mouse plugged into the USB card which is, according to OSX, disabled.
    Scratching of head.
Maybe it is still functioning because the apple PSU has lots spare to give because I have a second PSU taking a lot of the strain? I just don't know.
This whole boot time thing is puzzling to the extreme.
As I said before. I have installed OSX on the 6GB Maxtor drive and the machine starts up in under 2 minutes so I can only assume that there is no hardware problem elsewhere.
When I use the Fujitsu drive its 10 - 14 minutes. So from that it is logical to assume it is the hard drive. Maybe it has a really small cache or something. Or maybe the apple just doesn't like it much.
Once the machine is up and running it runs just fine. A few programs like entourage are a little slow to boot.
I don't know what the benchmark is as I have never used an Apple except this one.
For instance safari takes around 2 seconds for the icon to stop bouncing and about 5 seconds in total to be up and have loaded the home page. Is that about normal?
Another question I have to ask you fine fellows.
Can you move some of OSX's built in applications and utilities to a seperate partition and still have them function properly?
I would like to use the apple hard drive as the OSX installation disk but at 6GB, once I have installed the OS there ain't much room left for anything else.
I have already installed MS office and Appleworks and a few other apps to a separate partition and they work fine.
I suppose though that if I did that and the problem is slow access to the fujitsu disk, once I installed OSX to the apple disk and installed apps to the fujitsu disk I would still have problems accessing those apps.
i don't know really. I think I am going to have to take the machine apart again and experiment until I can find the problem.
    Another quick question.
Could it be RAM? Surely either RAM works or it doesn't right?
My system is correctly identifying the 768megs of RAM, if there was a problem with the 512MB of PC100 RAM I installed it just wouldn't show up.
Anyway, thanks for all your help so far,
I think I am going to save some cash and buy a new Apple machine - any suggestions which?

  • HP Envy 13 1030nr. Windows 7 64-bit. RAM upgrade help.

I just purchased a RAM upgrade for my Envy 13 and I was trying to figure out how exactly to access the memory module.  I couldn't find a youtube video for the Envy 13 and reading the maintenance manual provides only partial instructions to access the memory module.  It tells you what you need to do (Disconnect the TouchPad cable 2 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board) but not how to do it without damaging the computer.  I don't want to permanently sever a cable or anything so I'm looking for help via a link to a video or more detailed instructions on exactly how to safely access the memory module.
I was under the impression that this would be a quick replacement, but the more I read the manual, the more I think that this is going to be a little more complicated than opening up the bottom and removing the current RAM chip and replacing it with the one I have.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here is the Manual:

Memory is indeed on the motherboard and getting there requires nearly complete disassembly. See Page 4-26. Not sure how this qualifies as "easy" and if you have not done this before you should get some help. And yes, keep careful track of those screws.

  • Upgrade help from os 9.1 to 10.3 panther

    Hey, How is everyone doing?
Recently my friend gave me an old iMac. It is one from Summer 2000. He no longer had any use for it so I said I would take it for my son who is into video editing.
He also gave me OS X 10.3 Panther
I seem to be having a bit of an issue upgrading here so i'll post what I can.
I put the boot disc in and the iMac reads it fine, I hit install and it runs the program, then gives me the error
"iMac Essentials could not be installed please upgrade firmware"
So i get on one of the chat's with an agent and he gives me a link to get the newest firmware patch I download it and install it, and I get the same error again. can anyone shed any light as to why this may be happening? any help would be greatly epreciated.
    also Im running three computer's

I prefer if someone would email me with some information as I don't want my post to get lost :/
I will be up checking the boards for about another hour and a half or so
[email protected] or [email protected] will work

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions; if only it were under better circumstances.
Do not reset the PRAM until you are in a safer state.
The fix for this is a little long winded so all I'm going to do is post the link to it and the firmware you'll need.

IMVHO 128Mb of RAM probably isn't enough for Panther to run really well so you'll want to upgrade anyhow.
